Rimini International Choral Competition
Welcome to Rimini, the capital of hospitality and culture!
It gives me great pleasure to organise the ‘City of Rimini International Choral Competition’,
which will take place from 26 to 29 September 2013. Choral music, especially in the last few
years, has improved In quality thanks to the precious and tireless contribution of thousands of
supporters. It is no longer a subject for only a niche audience but, on the contrary, has gained
an important place in the musical field.
The aim of the Choral Competition Is not only to have groups competing against one another,
but also to present to the audience the characteristics and diversities of each choir and
repertoire. The event will take place in the beautiful setting of this ancient Roman city, wellknown for the beauty of its beaches and rich in monuments from a splendid past.
I shall be happy to welcome you to Rimini to celebrate together the beauties of music and
friendship.

Benvenuti a Rimini, capitale di ospitalità e cultura!
E’ con grande piacere che vado ad occuparmi dell’organizzazione del ‘Concorso Internazionale
Corale Città di Rimini’ che avrà luogo dal 26 al 29 Settembre 2013. La musica per coro,
specialmente in questi ultimi anni, è qualitativamente cresciuta grazie all’apporto prezioso e
instancabile di migliaia di appassionati. Non è più materia per soli ascoltatori di nicchia ma, al
contrario si è ricavata uno spazio importante nel panorama musicale.
Il Concorso non vuole soltanto mettere in competizione le formazioni corali ma intende
presentare al pubblico le caratteristiche e le diversità di ogni gruppo e repertorio. Il tutto nella
splendida cornice di questa antica città romana, conosciuta per la bellezza delle sue spiagge ma
soprattutto piena di vestigia di un glorioso passato.
Vi aspetto numerosi per celebrare insieme un momento di musica ed amicizia.

Il Teatro Novelli
Il 27 marzo 1895 il consiglio comunale decide la costruzione di un palcoscenico in muratura nel centro dell’area dell’ex
ippodromo, tra lo stabilimento balneare e il porto canale. Il provvedimento è ritenuto necessario per ospitare nella
“stagione dei bagni” le primarie compagnie di prosa e di varietà, alcune delle quali, in passato, hanno declinato l’invito
proprio per la precarietà del tavolato di scena. La decisione del municipio di rendere stabile il luogo degli spettacoli,
da qualche tempo sistemato provvisoriamente in aree vicine al Kursaal, dà il via alla storia del teatro di marina,
inizialmente chiamato “Arena al Lido” e poi “Ermete Novelli”. Per oltre un decennio questo “simpatico baraccone”
interamente di legno, montato in giugno e smantellato al termine della stagione, rappresenta uno di più importanti
appuntamenti serali dell’estate, contendendo il pubblico dei vacanzieri agli altri due “mostri sacri” del divertimento
riminese: il Kursaal e la piattaforma. Nel 1911 l’Arena al Lido, di proprietà comunale, ma in concessione insieme
con tutte le attività dell’azienda turistica alla Società anonima bagni, rischia di non ottenere il permesso di agibilità
da parte della pubblica sicurezza. Con il passare degli anni, infatti , la struttura è diventata logora e traballante e la
impalcature poco affidabili. In queste decrepite condizioni il teatro è assunto in gestione da Ermete Novelli. Il grande
mattatore del palcoscenico vi fa eseguire una serie di importanti lavori di restauro e di abbellimento. Il Momento del 10
agosto, commentando l’opera svolta dall’artista, scrive: “Il commendator Ermete Novelli ha compiuto uno dei suoi soliti
miracoli: ha dato la vita ad un morto”. E i riminesi, riconoscenti, dopo qualche giorno gli intestano il teatro. Il battesimo
ufficiale avviene il 29 agosto 1911, nell’intervallo di una commedia interpretata dallo stesso Novelli, a conclusione di
un ciclo di recite di grande successo. Quella sera il conte Carlo Biancoli, presidente della SAB, dopo essere salito sul
palco per ringraziare pubblicamente, a nome della cittadinanza, l’illustre divo dello spettacolo, tra applausi calorosi
della platea, intitola il teatro “Politeama Ermete Novelli”. Con la direzione del benemerito attore l’arena di marina
diventa un punto di riferimento, ambito e richiesto, delle migliori compagnie artistiche d’Italia, oltre che un centro
di eleganza e di mondanità. La guerra chiude quest’affascinante capitolo. Il 30 gennaio 1919 muore Ermete Novelli
e l’arena è prelevata dall’impresa che gestisce il Politeama riminese. Dopo quattro anni di deplorevole abbandono, il
teatro non offre più alcuna garanzia di sicurezza: le impalcature sono corrose, le gallerie pericolanti e tutto l’insieme
minaccia di crollare da un momento all’altro. Assestata alla meglio la struttura portante, la nuova direzione riesce ad
avviare l’attività artistica del dopoguerra e per sei stagioni il dignitoso calendario del “Novelli” torna ad accontentare
gli appassionati della scena. Nell’agosto del 1925 il “simpatico baraccone”, diventato ormai “una vecchia e indecente
carcassa”, è demolito. Dopo 10 anni, sulla stessa area, viene costruito un nuovo teatro intitolato ancora ad Ermete
Novelli. L’opera, moderna, funzionale e in perfetto stile 900 “sobrio e elegante”, è tutta in cemento armato ed ha una
capienza di 1.500 posti tra platea e galleria. Progettato e costruito dal geometra Oddo Rondini e dall’ingegner Enrico
del Piano, il “Novelli” risolve, finalmente, la grossa lacuna del settore artistico-ricreativo del lido. Sul nuovo “Novelli”
tornano a recitare le più accreditate compagnie sceniche d’Italia e per qualche anno ancora la città si trova ai vertici
degli interessi artistici rinnovando i fasti e gli entusiasmi dei tempi dell’Arena al Lido. Risparmiato fortunosamente
dai tremendi bombardamenti a tappeto del 1943-’44, il teatro esce dalla guerra con qualche ammaccatura nella parte
del palcoscenico. Per due anni è requisito dagli alleati e usato per allietare il forzato soggiorno della truppa occupante.
Nell’estate del ‘45 è allestita una modesta stagione lirica e nel ‘46 vengono programmati alcuni spettacoli di varietà. Nel
1947 è restituito alla città. Senza spiegazione di sorta, gli alleati lo consegnano sudicio e gravemente danneggiato: tetto,
soffitto, vetrate, pareti e addobbi devastati; palchi, poltrone e sedie irrecuperabili, l’impianto elettrico completamente
distrutto e le attrezzature sceniche scomparse. Quella stessa estate il “Novelli”, dopo ingenti lavori di rispristino, apre la
sala al pubblico e torna a ricoprire il ruolo di centro artistico, ricreativo e culturale della marina.

The Novelli Theatre
On 27th March 1895 Rimini town council decided to build a brick stage in the centre of the horse racetrack area
between the beach and the harbour. This measure was considered necessary to host top prose and variety companies
during the tourist season, some of which had declined the invitation in the past, precisely because of the precarious
state of the old wooden stage. The town council’s decision to build a permanent site for the shows, which for a long
time had been temporarily staged in the area near the Kursaal, was the beginning of the story of the theatre, initially
called “Lido Arena” and later “Ermete Novelli”. For over a decade this “nice shed” built entirely in wood, set up in
June and dismantled at the end of the season, was the scene of summer evenings’ most important appointments,
competing for audiences with the other two legendary Rimini entertainment venues: the Kursaal and the platform.
In 1911, the Lido Arena, owned by the Town Council, but licensed along with all the tourist board activities to the
“Bathing Company”, ran the risk of not obtaining the police permit to open to the public. In fact, through the years,
the structure had become worn and shaky and the framework unreliable. Under these conditions, Ermete Novelli took
over the management of the decrepit theatre. The great stage star decided to carry out a series of important restoration
and decoration projects. On 10th August, the Momento newspaper, commenting the work done by the artist, wrote:
“Mr. Ermete Novelli has performed one of his customary miracles: he has brought back to life something that was
dead”. A few days later, the grateful people of Rimini named the theatre after him. The official baptism took place on 29th
August 1911, in the interval of a play featuring Novelli himself, after a series of extremely successful performances. That
evening Count Carlo Biancoli, chairman of the Bathing Company, after going on stage to publicly thank the famous
star on behalf of the population, to warm applause from the audience, named the theatre “Politeama Ermete Novelli.”
Under the direction of the famous actor the “Marina Arena” became a coveted popular reference point for the best
Italian companies and a centre of elegance and high society. The war ended this fascinating chapter. On 30th January
1919, Ermete Novelli died and the arena was closed by the firm that managed the Rimini Politeama. After four years
of deplorable neglect, the theatre was no longer able to ensure safety: the structure was corroded, the galleries unsafe
and the whole building threatened to collapse at any moment. After dealing with the main structure somehow or other,
the new management was able to start post-war artistic activity and for six seasons the calendar of the Novelli Theatre
once again entertained theatre fans. In August 1925 the “nice shed” had become an “indecent old carcass” and was
demolished. Ten years later a new theatre, also named after Ermete Novelli, was built on the same site. The building,
modern, functional and in perfect “sober and elegant” 1900s style, was built entirely in reinforced concrete and had
a seating capacity of 1,500 between stalls and gallery. Designed and built by surveyor Oddo Rondini and engineer
Enrico Plan, the Novelli finally filled the big gap in the artistic and recreational facilities of the Rimini Lido. Top Italian
companies performed again at the new Novelli and for some more years the city was located at the top of artistic
interests, renewing the pomp and enthusiasm of the days of the Lido Arena. Luckily avoiding the tremendous 1943-44
carpet-bombing, the theatre came through the war with just some dents in the stage area. For two years it was occupied
by the Allies and used to entertain the occupying troops’ during their forced stay. In the summer of 1945, a modest
opera season was staged and in 1946 several variety shows were held. In 1947 it was returned to the city. Without any
explanation whatsoever, the Allies consigned the theatre dirty and severely damaged: the roof, ceiling, windows, walls
and decorations were devastated; boxes and seating irreparable, the electrical system was completely destroyed and the
stage equipment had vanished. That same summer, after considerable restoration work, the Novelli opened its hall to
the public and once more assumed its role of artistic, cultural and recreational centre of the coast

La Chiesa di S. Agostino
Costruita nel XIII secolo, in stile romanico - gotico, rappresenta la più antica
chiesa di Rimini. Era dedicata a San Giovanni Evangelista ma, eretta dagli
Eremitani di S. Agostino fu sempre, per il popolo, la chiesa di S. Agostino. La
prima nota storica che si ha di questa chiesa è un atto di donazione del 1069.
Si trattava allora di un piccolo oratorio che fungeva da parrocchia con il titolo
di S. Giovanni Evangelista. Nel 1256 il piccolo edificio veniva affidato all’ordine
dei frati Agostiniani. Con i suoi 55 metri di altezza il campanile è il più alto
della città e per molto tempo ha assunta anche la funzione di faro per i marinai
di Rimini. Su disegno di un architetto veneziano fu eretto sulla cappella destra
della chiesa che già era stata affrescata nei primi decenni del ‘300. Esso termina
con un’altissima cuspide piramidale. L’importanza di S. Agostino è indiscutibile,
basti pensare alla pittura riminese del ‘300 che si può dire nata all’ombra del suo
campanile. Giovanni da Rimini, infatti, considerato il caposcuola del ‘trecento
riminese’ abitava nella contrada di San Giovanni Evangelista cioè di S. Agostino,
e gli Agostiniani per primi affidarono a questa scuola l’esecuzione degli affreschi
della loro grande chiesa costruita ex novo. Gli affreschi della cappella maggiore e
di quella del campanile possono considerarsi la sola testimonianza rimasta nella
città di Rimini dell’attività della scuola giottesca. L’importanza eccezionale di
questa chiesa è dovuta in particolare agli affreschi venuti alla luce in seguito al
terremoto del 1916. Si tratta di un complesso di affreschi che rievocano scene
della vita del Santo e Il giudizio universale attribuibili al Maestro dell’Arengo.
Quest’ultimo affresco, restaurato e staccato dal sottotetto, venne collocato in
principio nella sala dell’Arengo, poi trasferito all’interno del museo della città
(Via Tonini).

The St. Agostino Church
This imposing church, built by Augustine monks at the end of the 13th century, was a rectangular
hall with a trussed roof. There was a large apse at one end with a chapel at each side, one of
which formed the base of the bell tower. The façade you see today is the result of extensive
eighteenth century intervention that also altered the appearance of the interior. But the sides
with their slender pilasters, the area of the apse and the lofty bell tower constitute a worthy
testimony of Gothic religious architecture in Rimini. Inside the church, the apse and the bell
tower chapel preserve the best evidence of the Rimini art school, which constitutes one of the
most important artistic movements of the 14th century in northern Italy, and which began with
the artists Giuliano e Giovanni of Rimini and the miniature painter Neri. The surviving, early
14th century decorations consist of various sequences of frescoes and a large wooden Crucifix.
The 14th century frescoes were concealed by later interventions until a violent earthquake in
1916 revealed their existence. Not until 1926, however, was it possible to remove and restore the
splendid Last Judgement painted over the triumphal arch and now housed in the Civic Museum.
The 18th century reconstruction enriched the church with notable works of art among which the
Baroque plasterwork on the ceiling by Ferdinando Bibiena and the frescoes by Vittorio Maria
Bigari. Only a few traces remain of the large Convent that was built next to the church and that
is known to have housed an important Library and a famous Studio with a college attached.
It was incorporated into the eighteenth century structure, designed by Giuseppe Achilli from
Cesena, after the disastrous earthquake of 1786. Closed down in1798 at the passing of the
French troops, the convent was characterised by its size, its solemn architecture, the symmetry
of its proportions and the presence of large courtyards.

The Musical Originals Singers - Jersey - UK
Imogen Nicholls

The Musical Originals Singers are a small group of twenty-five to thirty girls from the island of
Jersey aged between eleven and seventeen years. Taught and conducted by Imogen Nicholls, the
choir has gained a reputation for specializing in performing contemporary a cappella works for
young people – particularly works written during the lifetime of the choir members. No strangers
to international competitions, the Musical Originals Singers won the Children’s Choir section at
Young Prague 2009 with a Gold Award and, in 2010, Choir of the Day in the BBC Choir of the Year
competition. They performed at the 2011 Llangollen International Eisteddfod and then in October
2011, won both the Audience Prize and the Choir of Choirs prize at the Jersey International Choir
Festival. In July 2012, the Musical Originals Singers travelled to the seventh World Choir Games
in Cincinnati, Ohio, where they won silver medals in both the Champions Children’s Choir and
the Champions Contemporary Music competitions. Their performance featured the premiere of
a new work, Mielo, which the Choir commissioned from the British composer, Raymond Yiu. The
2013 Festival will be Musical Originals Singers second visit to Rimini.
The Musical Originals Singers sono un gruppo di 25 – 30 ragazze dall’Isola di Jersey, dell’età
compresa tra gli 11 e i 17 anni. Sotto l’insegnamento e la direzione di Imogen Nicholls, il coro ha
raggiunto una notevole reputazione, specializzandosi nell’esecuzione di musica a cappella per cori
giovanili. Il coro ha partecipato a vari concorsi internazionali. Ha vinto la Categoria Giovanili al
Festival ‘Young Prague 2009’ con un Diploma d’Oro; nel 2010 ha ottenuto il riconoscimento ‘Coro
del Giorno’ nel Concorso BBC Coro dell’Anno. Si sono esibite nel 2011 al Festival Internazionale
di Llangollen e, nell’Ottobre 2011 hanno vinto sia il ‘Premio del Pubblico’ che quello ‘Coro dei
Cori’ al Festival Corale Internazionale di Jersey. Nel Luglio 2012 il coro ha partecipato al VII
World Choir Games in Cincinnati, Ohio, dove ha vinto due Medaglie d’Argento, una per la
Categoria Cori Giovanili e l’altra per la Categoria Musica Contemporanea. La prossima esecuzione
riguarderà la prima di un nuovo lavoro, ‘Mielo’ del compositore Britannico Raymond Yiu.

Alūksne Teachers’ Atzele Choir was formed in 1986 and named after an ancient region, the
birthplace of Alūksne town, situated in the north-east of Latvia, close to the borders of Estonia
and Russia. The choir conductor Jānis Baltiņš is a lecturer in the choir conducting department of
Jāzeps Vītols’s Latvia Music Academy and the head of the choir conducting department of Jāzeps
Mediņš’s Music College. The choir singers are representatives of different professions: teachers,
doctors, engineers, foresters, fire-fighters and workers in the public sector. The choir has given
many concerts not only in Latvia, but also in other European countries: Estonia, Poland, the Czech
Republic, Germany and Austria. Much experience has been gained in competitions in Lithuania,
Italy, Hungary, Spain, Poland and Germany. We have always been among the choirs taking part
in the final contest of Latvia folk and dance festivals. In 2010 Atzele Choir won the silver diploma
and the bronze diplomas in the first Heart of Europe Choir Competition in Germany, and in 2011,
the first prize in the third international teachers’ choir contest in Poland.
Il Coro Atzele degli insegnanti di Alūksne è stato fondato nel 1986 e denominato con l’antico
nome della regione in cui sorge la città di Alūksne, situata nel nord-est della Lettonia, vicino ai
confini con Estonia e Russia. Il direttore del coro Jānis Baltiņš è docente di direzione corale presso
l’Accademia Musicale Lettone Jāzeps Vītols e direttore del dipartimento di musica corale del
Jāzeps Mediņš College. I coristi svolgono attività professionali differenti, sono insegnanti, medici,
ingegneri, guardie forestali, vigili del fuoco e impiegati. Il coro ha tenuto numerosi concerti non
solo in Lettonia ma anche in vari Paesi europei: Estonia, Polonia, Repubblica Ceca, Germania,
Austria. Ha inoltre maturato esperienze nella partecipazione a concorsi corali in Lituania, Italia,
Ungheria, Spagna, Polonia e Germania. Il coro è stato tra i finalisti nei Festival Folkloristi Lettoni.
Nel 2010 il Coro Atzele ha vinto il diploma d’argento e il diploma di bronzo al Primo Concorso
‘Heart of Europe’ in Germania e nel 2011 ha vinto il primo premio al Terzo Concorso per
insegnanti, in Polonia.

Mūza Choir - Latvia

The Mūza Choir was established in 1947. Its founder and leader for many years was Leonids
Vigners (1906-2001). Since 2006 the artistic director and main conductor has been Guntis Cimins.
Now the Mūza choir is seeking a new image and wishes to show the great range of choral music:
in its programs the choir performs modern music and leaves space too for Latvian classical music
as well as traditional Latvian folk-music. The main activities of the choir are finding new ways
to make music, its expression, presenting new ideas, and cooperation with composers and many
professional musicians. In the 2012-2013 season the Mūza Youth Choir has participated in and
implemented several major projects in its new formation: Ocean, a new choral music programme;
O Magnum Mysterium, Christmas concerts in several churches in Riga, Latvia; My Friend
Martins Freimanis, a musical at the Arena Riga concert hall; The Magic Mystery of Midsummer
Night – Latvian folk-songs in cooperation with a Latvian national folk group; and a new CD, in
cooperation with the electronic music composer Raimonds Tiguls.
Il Coro Mūza è stato fondato nel 1947. Il fondatore Leonids Vigners (1906-2001) è stato il direttore
per molti anni. Dal 2006 il direttore artistico e direttore principale è Guntis Cimins. Ora il coro
Mūza si sta dando una nuova immagine e intende mostrare la molteciplità della musica corale. Nei
concerti il coro esegue musica moderna ed una grande parte è lasciata alla musica classica lettone
o è tratta dal repertorio tradizionale folkloristico lettone. Tra le attività principali del coro figurano
la ricerca di nuove forme musicali, innovative idee espressive e di presentazione, e la cooperazione
con numerosi compositori e musicisti professionisti. Nella stagione 2012-2013 il Coro Giovanile
Mūza ha partecipato ad eventi e ha organizzato grandi progetti nella sua nuova formazione: ‘Ocean’
un nuovo programma di musica corale; ‘O Magnum Mysterium’ Concerti di Natale in numerose
chiese in Riga, Lettonia; ‘My Friend Martins Freimanis’ un musical presso l’Arena Riga; ‘The magic
Mystery of Midsummer Night’, canti folk lettoni in cooperazione con il Gruppo Nazionale Folk
Lettone; la registrazione del nuovo CD in cooperazione con il compositore Raimonds Tiguls.

The Ezerzeme Mixed Choir was founded in 1981 as the Ezerzeme Youth Choir. The conductors
of the choir are Rota Salmiņa, who was the founder of the youth choir and has worked here ever
since, Anda Lipska and Ēriks Čudars. The accompanist is Svetlana Sergejeva. In the first year
of its existence, it was included in the association of Latvian choirs. We have participated in all
Song Festivals with a strong Latvian tradition, in competition with all choirs in Latvia. In all
competitions the choir has reached the finals where Ezerzeme was awarded third and fifth places.
In 2004 the choir was changed into a mixed choir where singers of different generations and
occupations are united. In 2005 the choir won first prize in Emils Dārziņš International Choir
Competition. It also took part in the ninth Silver Bells international sacred music festival. Not only
does singing help us grow bold and beautiful, but also participation in sport activities and planting
birch nurseries keeps us alive and kicking. We like travelling, making new friends and acquiring a
repertoire of different foreign choral music. We have been to many European countries including
France, Slovenia, Austria, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Poland, Russia, and Italy, giving concerts
and taking part in festivals.
Il Coro Misto Ezerzeme è stato fondato nel 1981 come coro giovanile ‘Ezerzeme’. I direttori del
coro sono Rota Salmina, che è stato il fondatore del coro giovanile e vi lavora fin da allora e Anda
Lipska ed Ēriks Čudars. L’accompagnatrice è Svetlana Sergejeva. Nel primo anno della sua esistenza
è stato incluso nell’Associazione dei Cori Lettone. Il coro ha partecipato a tutti i Song Festivals,
eventi che riflettono la forte tradizione musicale lettone a cui partecipano, in concorso, tutti i
cori lettoni. In ogni concorso il Coro Ezerzeme ha partecipato alla finale, ottenendo il terzo e il
quinto posto. Nel 2004 il coro si è trasformato in coro misto, dove cantanti di diverse generazioni
e occupazioni si sono riuniti. Nel 2005 il coro ha vinto il primo premio al Concorso Internazionale
Emils Dārziņš. Ha anche partecipato al 9° Festival Internazionale di Musica Sacra ‘Silver Bells’.
Non solo il cantare ci aiuta a crescere in maniera forte e bella, ma anche la partecipazione ad
attività sportive o ambientali, come piantare betulle ci fa vivere con entusiasmo. Ci piace viaggiare,
conoscere gente nuova e acquisire repertorio di musica corale di differenti Paesi. Siamo stati in
molti Paesi d’Europa: Francia, Slovenia, Austria, Repubblica Ceca, Belgio, Polonia, Russia, Italia
tenendo concerti e partecipando a festival.

The Holmchase Singers - Jersey - UK

The Holmchase Singers are one of Jersey’s best loved adult ladies’ choirs, and a well-known part
of Jersey’s rich musical life. Founded by Amy Luce in 1958, the choir took its name from Amy and
her husband Cyril’s home, Holmchase, in which it was formed and rehearsed for many years. In
2008, Amy’s daughter Angela took over the musical direction of the choir and it has continued to
flourish under her leadership. The choir has members spanning a forty-five-year age range, from
all walks of life. Members who have come to live or work in Jersey complement its core founder
members. The choir has a long and distinguished history of service to the community, with a busy
programme of performances at charity concerts as well as weddings and other church services,
often in response to personal requests. The choir has recorded two CDs, one in collaboration with
the King’s Chamber Orchestra, and has appeared in a charity concert with international soprano
Lesley Garrett. They have participated in the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, Jersey
International Choir Festival and are very excited to be part of the Rimini International Choral
Competition. Our trip has been made possible by sponsorship received from several organisations
and we would like to thank the One Foundation, the Jersey Arts Trust, The Strasser Foundation
and Morris Architects.
The Holmchase Singers è uno dei cori femminili più amati di Jersey, e uno dei più conosciuti nella
ricca vita musicale di Jersey. Fondato da Amy Luce nel 1958, il coro ha preso il nome dalla casa di

Puellae Orantes Cathedral Girls’ Choir was established in 1985 at the Cathedral Basilica in
Tarnow. Rev. Władysław Pachota is the founder and conductor of the choir. Aleksandra Topor
(soprano) runs the voice production course. The choir has made 25 international concert tours
in Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Germany, the United States of America, the Slovak
Republic, Hungary, France, and Denmark. Puellae Orantes has been the winner of prestigious
international competitions, the most important of which are the fourth European Cathedral Choirs
Competition - Amiens (France) 2000 – the first prize; the fiftieth European Festival of Young
Musicians - Neerpelt (Belgium) 2002 - the first prize; the fifty-second Guido d’Arezzo Polyphonic
Competition - (Italy) 2004 – the first prize; the thirty-third prof. Georgi Dimitrov International
May Choir Competition (Bulgaria) 2011 – the second prize (the first prize was not awarded).
Puellae Orantes twice competed for the Grand Prix in Arezzo (2004) and Varna (2011). The choir
has recorded eight compact discs. Three CDs were nominated for the Fryderyk phonographic
award and one was awarded a statue of Fryderyk. The choir has made several recordings for Polish
Television, Polish Radio, France 2 and France 3 channels of the French Television, and Vatican
Radio, as well as the Dutch and French Radios.

ottenuto numeri premi in concorsi corali internazionali: primo premio al 4° Concorso Europeo
dei Cori delle Cattedrali, in Amiens (Francia) nel 2000; primo premio al 50° Festival per Giovani
Musicisti, in Neerpelt (Belgio) nel 2002; primo premio al 52° Concorso Polifonico Guido d’Arezzo
nel 2004; secondo premio (il primo non è stato assegnato) al 33° Concorso Corale Internazionale
Georgi Dimitrov (Bulgaria) nel 2011. Il Coro Puellae Orantes ha partecipato due volte alla finale
del Gran Premio in Arezzo, nel 2004 e in Varna nel 2011. Il coro ha prodotto 8 CD. Tre CD sono
stati selezionati per il premio fonografico Fryderyk ed uno ha ricevuto in premio una statua di
Fryderyk. Il coro ha effettuato numerose registrazioni per la TV Polacca, per la Radio Polacca,

Gallerie Chamber Choir - Finland

The Gallerie Female Chamber Choir was founded by conductor Victoria Meerson in 2003 in
Helsinki. The repertoire of the choir includes a wide range of choral music from classical pieces
and orthodox church music to Finnish folk songs and modern popular music. In 2007 the choir
participated in the International Orlando di Lasso Festival. One year later Gallerie performed
successfully in the International church music competition in the town of Preveza, Greece,
receiving a silver medal and a special prize for the best interpretation of Orthodox music. In 2010
the choir participated in the Voci d’Europa international choral competition in Sardinia returning
home with a silver medal and the best conductor prize received by Victoria Meerson. In 2011 the
Gallerie Choir recorded their first album: A. Kastalsky, Liturgy of John Chrysostom. In 2012
Gallerie took part in the fourteenth Europe and its Songs international festival in Barcelona. In
addition to these international festivals and competitions the Gallerie Choir annually participates
in various concerts and festivals in Finland.

a Helsinki. Il repertorio del coro include una vasta gamma di musica corale da pezzi classici e
brani della musica religiosa ortodossa, a canti folk finnici e di musica popolare moderna. Nel 2007
il coro ha partecipato al Festival Internazionale Orlando di Lasso. Un anno più tardi Gallerie si è
esibito con successo al Concorso Internazionale di Musica Sacra in Preveza, Grecia, ricevendo una
medaglia d’argento ed un premio speciale per la miglior interpretazione della musica ortodossa.
Nel 2010 il coro ha partecipato al Concorso Corale Internazionale ‘Voci d’Europa’ in Sardegna,
portando a casa una medaglia d’argento e il premio per il miglior direttore per Victoria Meerson.
Nel 2012 Gallerie ha registrato il suo primo album: A. Kastalsky ‘Liturgia di San Giovanni
Crisostomo’. Nel 2012 il coro ha partecipato al 14° Festival Internazionale ‘L’Europa e i suoi canti’

Dubrovnik Chamber Choir, founded in early 1994, consists of about thirty amateur singers. The
choir has immediately set high, almost professional standards and has become one of the finest
Croatian choirs. Although performing mostly a cappella, the choir often works with renowned
orchestras, soloists and conductors. The repertoire comprises works from Gregorian Chant to
twentieth-century contemporary music, with a special emphasis on choral compositions by
Croatian composers. The artistic director and conductor of the choir since its foundation is Frano
Krasovac. Besides concerts in Dubrovnik and in other Croatian cities, the choir also performs
at festivals throughout Europe: Dubrovnik Summer Festival (1994-2002, 2009), Easter Concert
in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina (April, 1996), tour to Helsingborg, Sweden (September,

The Rosinka Children’s Choir comes from Khabarovsk, Russia. The artistic director is Ksenia
Spichak. The Rosinka children`s choir has been active for ten years in the № Seven Gymnasium; the
children in the choir are from ten to fifteen years old. The philosophy of the choir is to give a chance
to everybody to enjoy music and develop their own skills. The Rosinka Choir has perfomed with
the Khabarovsk Philharmonic Orchestra. The choir takes part annually in the ‘Rossiya-Rus Khrani
Sebya’ Festival. The Rosinka Choir was the winner of the All Russian Interregional Competition
in Yaroslavl in 2005, and was also awarded the bronze diploma at the Neva Award International
Competition in St. Petersburg in 2007. In 2009 the choir became ‘the best choral collective’ in the
competition sponsored by the governor of Khabarovsk territory. In 2010 the choir was awarded
a bronze diploma at the eleventh Prague Christmas international choir competition. In 2012 the
choir took part in the Gold Voice of Montserrat international choir festival in Barcelona and was
awarded the silver diploma. The choir has a wide repertoire including compositions by Russian
and European classic composers, sacred and modern music.
Il Coro Giovanile Rosinka viene da Khabarovsk, Russia. Il direttore artistico è Ksenia Spichak. Il
Coro Rosinka svolge la sua attività da dieci anni, all’interno del Settimo Ginnasio. I ragazzi del coro
hanno un’età compresa tra i 10 e i 15 anni. La filosofia del coro è quella di offrire un’opportunità a
ciascuno di gioire e crescere nell’apprendimento della musica. Il Coro Rosinka si è esibito con la
Filarmonica di Khabarovsk. Annualmente il coro partecipa al Festival ‘Rossiya-Rus Khrani Sebya’.
Il Coro Rosinka è risultato vincitore al Concorso di Yaroslav, Russia, nel 2005 ed ha ricevuto il
diploma di bronzo al Concorso Internazionale ‘The Neva Award’ in San Pietroburgo nel 2007. Nel
2009 il coro ha ottenuto il titolo di ‘Miglior Gruppo Corale’ nel concorso sponsorizzato dal governo
della regione di Khabarovsk. Nel 2010 il coro ha ottenuto il diploma di bronzo all’XI Concorso
Internazionale in Praga. Nel 2012 il coro ha partecipato al Festival Corale di Barcellona ‘Gold
Voice of Montserrat’ ottenendo il diploma d’argento. Il repertorio del coro consiste principalmente

Kranjski Oktet - Slovenia

This year Kranjski Oktet will celebrate its fifth anniversary. The group consist of experienced
amateur singers who perform choral music, ethnic music and modern songs, with the emphasis
on Slovenian authors. We perform widely across Slovenia on solo tours and we take part in various
cultural events. For four consecutive years, we have organized the Oktetov Kranj Festival (small
vocal groups) and this year we were awarded the first place. We have also performed successfully
abroad: at the tenth Medjunarodni Festival Klapa Perast 2011, male groups category; gold medal
and second place overall at the twenty-sixth Prague international choir competition and festival,
2012, folk and male choirs - Gold Band. The artistic director was awarded the special prize for
the outstanding interpretation of Věno, composed by B. Smetany. Our achievements in Slovenia:
we reached the Gold Band at the fourth Oktetov Kranj Festival in 2013; at the Cerklje regional
meeting of choirs and small vocal groups in 2013 we were ranked in the highest group. Last year
we released our first album called Božične pesmi (Christmas song).
Quest’anno l’Ottetto Kranjski celebrerà il suo quinto anniversario. Il gruppo è formato da cantanti
amatoriali con esperienze musicali. Il gruppo esegue musica corale, musica etnica e canti moderni
in special modo quelli di autori Sloveni. Molte sono state le esibizioni in Slovenia, in differenti
contesti culturali. Per quattro anni consecutivi abbiamo organizzato un Festival per piccoli gruppi
vocali, in cui quest’anno abbiamo ottenuto il Primo Posto. Abbiamo inoltre partecipato al X
Medjunarodni Festival Klapa Perast 2011, per la Categoria Cori Maschili, ottenendo il Diploma
d’Oro e il Secondo Posto. Al 26° Concorso Corale Internazionale di Praga 2012 abbiamo ottenuto
la Fascia Oro sia nella Categoria Cori Maschili che in quella Cori Folk. Il direttore artistico ha
ottenuto il premio speciale per l’eccellente interpretazione del brano Věno del compositore B.
Smetany. I nostri successi in Slovenia: 4° Festival Ottetto Kranjski 2013, Fascia Oro; Meeting
Regionale dei cori ed ensemble Cerklje 2013, Punteggio Fascia Alta. L’anno scorso abbiamo
realizzato il nostro primo album chiamato Božične Pesmi (Canti di Natale).

Pro Musica Chamber Choir comes from Sfântu Gheorghe, Romania. The choir was founded in
1995; its members are teachers and undergraduates. The repertoire of the choir includes pieces
from the universal choir literature, with a special emphasis on early and contemporary pieces.
The choir performs frequently and successfully, representing the Transylvanian choir movement
both at home and abroad: 1998, Hungary, Czech Republic, Denmark, Sweden, Turkey (Ankara
international choir contest, third prize); 2002: Greece (Preveza international choir contest, silver
medal); 2010: Croatia (Zadar international choir contest, third prize); 2012: Macedonia, (Ohrid
international choir contest, first prize.) The conductor of the choir is Zoltán Sipos. He was born in
1954 and graduated from the Music Faculty within the Music Pedagogy Institute in Targu Mures.
He continued and completed his studies by graduating from the Gheorghe Dima Academy of
Music in Cluj Napoca. Since graduation he has conducted four choirs, which have won both
national and international recognition.

l’Accademia di Musica Gheorghe Dima di Cluj Napoca. Dopo la laurea ha preso la direzione di
quattro cori, conosciuti a livello nazionale ed internazionale.

Rozkvet Choir - Slovakia

Rozkvet Choir was founded as a singing ensemble of Prievidza teachers in 1967. The choir’s
development owes much to the inspirational leadership of the present conductor Ing. Ján Glos,
who has been conducting the choir since 1988, and to Eva Balagova - Hajnovicova, associate
artistic director and piano accompanist. Under their artistic leadership Rozkvet has gained many
awards: Golden Award, 2012, Slovakia; Golden Award with jury praise, 1999, Slovakia; second
Prize Mixed Choir Category, 1995, Sweden; first Prize, 1991, Belgium. The choir performs not
only in Slovakia, but has also appeared on a number of non-competitive occasions in Europe,
and it gives an annual Christmas and Easter concert with a local orchestra. The choir repertoire
consists of various musical styles and genres, from Renaissance madrigals, baroque and classic to
folk, contemporary and gospel music. Special attention is paid to works of Slovak composers. The
choir has at present forty members from various professions, who are passionate and committed
amateur singers. Over the past forty-five years the choir has been bringing joy to audiences and
building bridges of tolerance through music.
Il Coro Rozkvet è stato fondato come ensemble degli insegnanti di Prievidza nel 1967. Lo sviluppo
del coro è avvenuto sotto la guida dell’attuale direttore Ján Glos, che ha preso la direzione nel
1988, e di Eva Balagova – Hajnovicova, direttore artistico e accompagnatrice pianista. Il coro ha
ottenuto molti riconoscimenti: premio fascia oro, 2012, Repubblica Slovacchia; Premio fascia oro
con menzione della giura, 1999, Repubblica Slovacca; secondo premio categoria cori misti, 1995,
Svezia; primo premio, 1991, Belgio. Il coro si esibisce non solo nel proprio Paese ma in numerosi

musica Barocca e classica, folk, gospel e contemporanea. Speciale attenzione è volta ai compositori
Slovacchi. Il coro è formato da una quarantina di cantanti amatoriali che svolgono diverse
professioni. Nei quarantacinque anni di attività il coro ha portato gioia agli ascoltatori e costruito
ponti di tolleranza attraverso la musica.

Choir of the Medical University of Łódź - Poland

The Choir of the Medical University of Łódź was established in 2005 on the initiative of the
Rector. The conductor of the choir is the outstanding choirmaster and head of the department
of art education at the University of Music, prof. Anna Domańska. Magdalena Myjak is the
assistant vocal coach with Mariusz Lewy and Jakub Czech is the assistant accompanist. The choir’s
repertoire is wide-ranging and includes Polish folk music, gospel, sacred music, and light music.
Thanks to its intensive work the choir has already won two silver medals in the spirituals, gospel,
jazz and folk music categories at the third Mundus Cantat Sopot international choir festival in
2007, and also won first place at the tenth Cantio Lodziensis international choir festival in the
gospel category in 2007. The choir also took part in the first West London international choral
review in London in 2008 and also took part in FIMU in Belfort, France, in 2011. In 2010, thanks
to the University authorities the choir had the honour of releasing an album of sacred music.
The team has given a charity performance for Łódź Hospice for Children and takes part in many
other charity activities. In 2012 the choir took part in three festivals: the twenty-second Advent
festival in Prague, the fifteenth Cantio Lodziensis festival in Poland, and the Ohrid choir festival
in Macedonia, where the choir was awarded the second prize.
Il Coro dell’Università di Medicina di Łódź si è costituito nel 2005 su iniziativa del Rettore
dell’Università. Direttrice del coro e capo del Dipartimento di Educazione Artistica e Musicale
dell’Università, è Anna Domańska, che si avvale della collaborazione dei preparatori vocali
Magdalena Myjak e Mariusz Lewy, e dell’accompagnatore Jakub Czech. Il repertorio comprende
musica folk polacca, gospel, musica sacra e musica leggera. Grazie all’intenso lavoro svolto, il
coro ha ricevuto vari riconoscimenti tra cui due medaglie d’argento nelle categorie musica gospel,
spiritual, jazz e nella musica folk al III Festival Internazionale ‘Mundus Cantat Sopot’ nel 2007, ha
vinto il primo premio al X Festival Corale di Cantio Lodziensis nella categoria cori gospel, nel 2007.
Il coro, inoltre ha partecipato al Primo Festival Corale’West London Sangerstevne’ nel 2008 e al
Festival Internazionale di Belfort, Francia nel 2011. Nel 2010, grazie alle autorità dell’Università,
il coro ha avuto l’onore di realizzare il suo primo album di musica sacra. Il gruppo sostiene, con
la propria attività, l’ospedale dei bambini, di Łódź e partecipa ad eventi di beneficenza. Nel 2012
il coro ha ottenuto il secondo premio a: ‘Ohrid Choir Festival’ in Macedonia; XXII Festival
Internazionale dell’Avvento a Praga; XV Festival Corale Cantio Lodziensis in Polonia.

Paduan Suara Mahasiswa (PSM) Universitas Hasanuddin was formed in the 1970s by a number
of students with a talent and an interest in music, and was subsequently established by the
University rector as an official student activity in June 1998. The choir numbers over a hundred
students, and performs on both formal and informal occasions inside and outside the campus,
which has made Paduan Suara Mahasiswa (PSM) Universitas Hasanuddin one of the largest and
most important university organizations. In recent years the choir has been awarded prizes in a
number of international choir competitions, including the gold diploma as winner of the folklore
category and gold diploma as winner of the pop category at Reno Tahoe Festival, Nevada USA
2011; the Diploma of Honour for participating successfully in five Interkultur events (China 2006,
Indonesia 2007, Austria 2008, Korea 2009, Nevada USA 2011) and the qualification certificate
to perform at Interkultur major events. Other awards include a silver medal in the pop and jazz
category and a gold medal in the folklore category, and the choir was the winner of the Grand
Prix in the Bandung international choir competition, Indonesia 2011. Finally, in 2012 the choir
won the platinum medal in the folklore category and the gold medal in the pop, jazz, and gospel
category at the Xinghai competition in China.
Paduan Suara Mahasiswa (PSM) Universitas Hasanuddin è stato fondato negli anni ’70 da
un gruppo di studenti con la passione ed il talento per la musica. Successivamente, attraverso il
rettore dell’Università, il coro è diventato parte ufficiale dell’organizzazione universitaria nel 1998.
Con oltre 100 studenti come membri, il coro partecipa ad eventi formali ed informali all’interno
ed all’esterno dell’Università che contribuiscono a dare visibilità all’Università stessa. Negli anni
passati numerosi sono stati i riconoscimenti ottenuti dal coro: diploma d’oro e vincitore della
categoria folk, diploma d’oro e vincitore della categoria pop al Festival in Nevada USA, 2011;
diploma d’onore e partecipazione con successo a cinque eventi Interkultur (Cina 2006, Indonesia
2007, Austria 2008, Korea 2009, Nevada USA 2011); certificato di qualificazione per partecipare
ai principali eventi Interkultur; medaglia d’argento per le categorie pop e jazz, medaglia d’oro per
la categoria folklore e vincitore del Gran Premio al Concorso Corale Internazionale di Bandung,
Indonesia 2011; medaglia di platino per la categoria folklore, medaglia d’oro per le categorie pop,
jazz e gospel al Concorso di Xinghai, Cina 2012.

The Adoramus Mixed Choir (MePZ Adoramus) began in 1987 on the initiative of conductor
prof. Marjan Grdadolnik. Over the years it has evolved into the Adoramus cultural society (KUD
Adoramus) which today combines the Adoramus mixed choir, the St. Nicholas youth choir, the St.
Nicholas children’s choir, a sextet, the Deum Adora male-voice choir, and a group of animators.
MePZ Adoramus consists of over fifty singers whose ages range from eighteen to forty. The choir
has made several tours in Europe: in 1989 they visited Sweden, in 1995 they toured Germany,
Belgium and France, in 2009 they went to Beograd, and in 2010 to Berlin. In the Naša pesem
state competition in Maribor, the choir was twice rewarded with a silver medal. In 2002 KUD
Adoramus celebrated its fifteenth anniversary and recorded a CD for the occasion. The same
year the choir was invited to the seventh Youth Music Festival in Switzerland. In 2008 and 2010
the choir was selected to be take part in the Sozvočenja district meeting, where in 2010 it was
pronounced the best Choir in their district and one of the best in Slovenia. In 2009 and 2011 MePZ
Adoramus received a gold medal. In 2012 the choir celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary. A very
successful year of celebration is behind them: in April 2012 the choir attended the Naša pesem
state competition, where they won a silver medal. Then in spring 2012 the choir took part in the
Krakow international singing festival where they achieved first place and won a gold medal in the
mixed choir category.
Il Coro Misto Adoramus è sorto nel 1987 per iniziativa del direttore Marjan Grdadolnik. Nel
corso degli anni si costituita una associazione culturale, denominata Adoramus che comprende:
Coro Misto Adoramus, Coro Giovanile San Nicholas, Coro a Voci Bianche San Nicholas,
un sestetto, Coro Maschile Deum Adora, un gruppo di animatori. Il coro è formato da più di
50 cantanti tra i 18 e i 40 anni. Numerosi i viaggi in Europa: Svezia, 1989; Germania, Belgio,
Francia, 1995; Belgrado, 2009; Berlino, 2010. Al Concorso Nazionale Naša pesem di Maribor,
il coro è stato premiato due volte con una medaglia d’oro. Nel 2002 l’Associazione Adoramus ha
festeggiato i 15 anni, con la registrazione di un CD. Nello stesso anno il coro è stato invitato al VII
Festival Musicale Giovanile in Svizzera. Nel 2008 e nel 2010 è stato selezionato per il meeting di
Sozvočenja, dove, nel 2010 ha ottenuto il titolo di miglior coro del distretto e uno dei migliori cori
della Slovenia. Nel 2009 e nel 2011 ha ricevuto un premio fascia oro. Nel 2012 il coro ha celebrato
l’anniversario per i suoi 25 anni: al Concorso Naša pesem, ha ottenuto una medaglia d’argento; al
Concorso di Cracovia ha ottenuto il primo posto ed una medaglia d’oro nella categoria cori misti.

Ensemble Kantika - Italy

Ensemble Kantika was formed in September 2010 within the Ad Libitum Choral Association. They
have been working for ten years to spread an interest and love for choral music, especially among
young people and children. The members of the ensemble are about twenty singers aged from
fifteen to thirty. The repertoire includes different genres with an especial predilection for pieces
by contemporary composers. The choir has taken part in national festivals and events where they
stand out for their vocal quality, repertoire and interpretation. In May 2011 the ensemble obtained
the prize for the most original repertoire at the ‘Cantagiovani National Choral Competition’ in
Salerno, Italy. In November 2012 the choir won first prize at the fifth choral competition for sacred
music in Naples, and in May 2013 first prize once more at the ‘Cantagiovani Festival’, ex aequo with
the Giovani Cantori choir from Genova. The choir attends lessons and workshops with directors
and composers. The conductor is Raffaela Scafuri.
L’Ensemble Kantika nasce nel settembre 2010 all’interno dell’Associazione Corale ‘Ad Libitum’,
impegnata da oltre dieci anni a diffondere sul territorio salernitano l’interesse e la passione per
il canto corale, in particolare presso giovani e bambini. L’ensemble, formato di circa 20 coristi
di età compresa tra i 15 e i 30 anni, si dedica allo studio di brani tratti da vari repertori e generi
musicali ma con una particolare predilezione per la musica di autori contemporanei. Oltre alla
partecipazione a vari festival e rassegne nazionali, dove si è sempre distinto per la vocalità, la
scelta del repertorio e l’interpretazione, il gruppo ha conseguito nel Maggio 2011 il premio
‘Originalità del repertorio’ al ‘Concorso Nazionale Cantagiovani’ (Salerno). Nel Novembre 2012
si è classificato al I° posto al ‘V Concorso corale di Musica sacra di Napoli’. Recentemente (Maggio
2013) ha vinto il I° premio alla VI edizione del ‘Cantagiovani’, ex aequo con i Giovani Cantori di
Genova. Segue regolarmente lezioni di vocalità e incontri con maestri e compositori. L’ensemble è
diretto da Raffaela Scafuri.

The Cantate Domino Chamber Choir was established in spring 1992 at the initiative of the
conductor Rolandas Daugėla. The choir has given concerts in many countries: Italy, England,
Austria, Spain, Germany, Belgium, France, Norway, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Latvia,
Switzerland, and Macedonia, and in many cities in Lithuania. The choir can be proud of many
international achievements, the most important of which are two Grand Prix, four first places, four
second places and six third places. Significant achievements over the past year have been second
prize and a silver diploma in the Námestovo international festival of sacred choral music (Slovakia
2008); a production of the rock opera The Risen by Daniele Ricci (Kaunas 2008); the Authentic
Music prize (2008) for its work in popularizing music; first place and a gold diploma in the fourth
international Advent and Christmas music festival in Bratislava (Slovakia 2009); a production
of Awaited, a musical by Daniele Ricci; second place in the Krakow Competition (Poland 2010);
second prize at the Silver Bells international sacred music festival 2011 and 2013 in Daugavpils
(Latvia); first prize at the Ohrid choir festival, Macedonia, 2012. The choir has a very rich and
wide-ranging repertoire: from unison folk songs to complex modern scores, from plainsong to
large solemn vocal opuses. Great attention is paid to the works of Lithuanian composers.
Il Coro da Camera Cantate Domino di Kaunas si è costituito nella primavera del 1992 per
iniziativa del direttore Rolandas Daugėla. Il coro ha eseguito concerti in numerosi paesi: Italia,
Inghilterra, Austria, Spagna, Germania, Belgio, Francia, Norvegia, Polonia, Repubblica Ceca,
Repubblica Slovacca, Lettonia, Svizzera, Macedonia e in molte città della Lituania. Il coro può
essere orgoglioso dei riconoscimenti internazionali ottenuti, i più importanti dei quali sono: due
Gran Premi, quattro volte il Primo Posto, quattro volte in Secondo Posto e sei volte il Terzo Posto.
Significativi i successi ottenuti negli anni passati; secondo premio e diploma fascia argento al
Festival di Musica Sacra Námestovo, Repubblica Slovacca, 2008; allestimento dell’opera di Daniele
Ricci ‘The Risen’, Kaunas, 2008; premio ‘Authentic Music’, per la diffusione della musica, 2008;
primo posto e diploma fascia oro al IV Festival dell’Avvento a Bratislava, Repubblica Slovacca,

The Cantus Delicium Vocal Band was founded on 1st July 2010 at the Parish of St. Otton in Pyrzyce
(Poland). The choir performs mainly pieces in Latin by various composers. They also perform
Orthodox music and Gregorian chants, and they have in their repertoire music for entertainment,
such as songs by the Beatles. All the choir members are amateurs. Their achievements include:
2010 – third prize, twelfth ‘Cantio Lodziensis Łódź Choir Festival’, category – vocal bands; 2010
– first prize, sixteenth ‘West Pomeranian Carol Competition’; 2011 – third place, seventeenth

Il Gruppo Vocale Cantus Delicium è stato fondato nel Luglio 2010 presso la Parrocchia di
S. Ottone in Pyrzyce, Polonia. Il coro esegue principalmente brani in latino, di diversi autori.
Inoltre si dedica alla musica Ortodossa e Gregoriana. Il repertorio comprende anche musica di
intrattenimento come alcuni brani dei mitici Beatles. Il coro, formato da musicisti amatoriali, ha
ricevuto notevoli riconoscimenti: 2010, terzo premio al XII Festival Corale di Łódź Choir ‘Cantio

The Chamber Choir of Silesian University in Opava was established in 1990 as an amateur
musical group including students, teachers, and graduates of the university. The choir devotes
itself to polyphonic music, and has about twenty-five members. Every year it organises many
concerts both as University events and public performances. The choir has a repertoire including
more than a hundred compositions from the treasury of Czech and world music, ranging from the
Middle Ages to contemporary production. This wide variety gives a good balance of sacred music,
folk music, and author compositions. In 2006 and 2010 the choir recorded two CDs. The choir is
conducted by the choirmaster Vladimíra Vašinková. She completed two cycles of keyboard playing
at the Basic Art School in Opava, and graduated in Musical Education and Choir Direction from
the Pedagogy Faculty at the University of Ostrava. The choir has successfully represented the
Czech culture of choral music at shows and competitions in Italy, Spain, and Poland.
Il Coro da Camera dell’Università di Silesia, Opava, si è costituito nel 1990 come gruppo musicale
amatoriale formato da studenti, insegnanti e laureati dell’Università. Il coro si dedica totalmente
alla polifonia; è costituito da circa 25 membri. Ogni anno il coro organizza numerosi concerti, sia
riferiti ad eventi all’interno dell’Università che all’esterno, per il pubblico. Il repertorio del coro
comprende oltre un centinaio di composizioni, patrimonio musicale di autori Cechi ed esteri, e
spazia dalla musica del Medio Evo a quella contemporanea, sia sacra che folk. Nel 2006 e nel 2010
il coro ha registrato due CD. Direttore del coro è Vladimíra Vašinková. Ha studiato piano presso
la Scuola d’Arte di Opava e si è diplomata in Educazione Musicale e Direzione di Coro presso la
Facoltà di Pedagogia dell’Università di Ostrava. Il coro ha rappresentato con successo la cultura
Ceca in eventi musicali e concorsi in Italia, Spagna e Polonia.

Academic Choir of Carinthia Mohorjan - Slovenia

Koroški akademski pevski zbor Mohorjan (Academic Choir of Carinthia Mohorjan) comes
from Prevalje and is a part of the Mohorjan Cultural Association (Kulturno društvo Mohorjan).
It consists of around thirty-seven singers, mostly university and high school students from the
entire Carinthia region. During the first six years of its existence the choir was conducted by
Majan Berložnik, with Helena Buhvald Gorenšek taking over in 2005. The main focus of the choir
is and always has been to perform choral music with high artistic value from various periods
and countries, paying special attention to Slovenian and Carinthian folk music. The choir has
performed works ranging from the Renaissance to the present day, achieving considerable success.
In 2012, the choir took part in the Nasa Pesem national competition for choral music in Maribor
for the first time, and won the silver medal with 87,5 points (seventh best choir in Slovenia),
the award for the best new choir competing in the Nasa Pesem national competition, and our
conductor Helena Buhvald Gorensek won the award for the best young conductor in Slovenia. We
also won the gold medal in Slovakia Cantat 2012 in Bratislava.
Il Coro Accademico della Carinzia Mohorjan viene da Prevalje e rappresenta la cultura Mohorjan;
è formato da 37 cantanti, per la maggior parte studenti universitari o di scuola superiore dell’intera
regione della Carinzia. Durante i primi sei anni della sua esistenza il coro è stato diretto da Majan
Berložnik ed Helena Buhvald Gorenšek fino al 2005. Il principale obiettivo del coro è ed è sempre
stato, eseguire musica corale di alto valore artistico di vari periodi e Paesi, con speciale attenzione
alla musica folk Slovena e della Carinzia, in particolare. Il coro ha eseguito brani che spaziano
dal Rinascimento ai giorni nostri. Il coro ha ricevuto numerosi riconoscimenti. Ha preso parte
al Concorso Nazionale Nasa Pesem 2012 a Maribor, per la prima volta ed ha vinto la medaglia
d’argento con 87,5 punti (settimo posto tra i cori Sloveni), il riconoscimento per il miglior nuovo
coro al Concorso Nasa Pesem e il nostro direttore, Helena Buhvald Gorensek, ha ricevuto il
premio di miglior giovane direttore Sloveno. Inoltre il coro ha vinto una medaglia d’oro al Festival
Slovakia Cantat di Bratislava nel 2012.

The Choir of the Medical University of Bialystok is one of the oldest university choirs in
Poland. It was founded in 1951 by a group of students of medicine who were also music lovers. It
belongs to the category of mixed choirs and consists both of students of the Medical University
and young doctors. The repertoire contains not only great oratorio works but also sacred and
secular a cappella compositions ranging from the Renaissance to contemporary times, including
some first performances. For many years the Choir has taken part in numerous international
festivals and competitions as well as in prestigious concerts both in Poland and abroad (Austria,
Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Great Britain, Hungary, Holland, Ireland, Israel, Lithuania,
Italy, Portugal, Spain, Slovakia). The Choir cooperates with the Bialystok Philharmonic Orchestra
on a regular basis. The conductor Anna Moniuszko has been cooperating with the Choir of the
Medical University of Bialystok since 2003. Under her leadership the choir won the first place
in the Preveza international choral festival (Greece 2008) and the Vratislavia Sacra international
choir festival (Wroclaw, Poland 2013). Anna Moniuszko was also awarded an individual prize as
the best conductor at the Preveza international choral festival (Greece 2008).
Il Coro dell’Università di Medicina di Bialystok è uno dei più antichi cori universitari in Polonia.
E’ stato fondato nel 1951 da un gruppo di studenti della Facoltà di Medicina, con una grande
passione musicale. E’ un coro misto formato da studenti e da giovani laureati. Il repertorio
comprende brani tratti dal patrimonio di musica sacra e profana, a cappella, dal Rinascimento ai
giorni nostri e include anche prime esecuzioni. Per molti anni il coro ha partecipato a numerosi
festival e concorsi, a prestigiosi concerti sia in Polonia che all’estero (Austria, Belgio, Francia,
Germania, Grecia, Gran Bretagna, Ungheria, Olanda, Irlanda, Israele, Lituania, Italia, Portogallo,
Spagna, Repubblica Slovacca). Il coro collabora regolarmente con l’Orchestra Filarmonica di
Bialystok. Il direttore Anna Moniuszko collabora con il Coro dell’Università di Medicina di
Bialistok dal 2003. Sotto la sua guida il coro ha vinto il primo premio al Festival Internazionale di
Preveza (Grecia 2008) e al Festival Internazionale ‘Vratislavia Sacra’ (Wroclaw, Polonia 2013). Anna
Moniuszko ha inoltre vinto il premio come Miglior Direttore al Festival Corale Internazionale di
Preveza (Grecia 2008).

Pueri Cantores Girls Choir Tolmin is the Slovene representative of the global Catholic church
organization Pueri Cantores. The choir has been active for thirty-one years under the leadership
of the conductor Barbara Kovačič. In 2001 the choir gave a performance at the third Isola del Sole
international choir competition and festival in Grado, Italy, winning the silver diploma with the
highest number of points in the Youth Choirs category, and the silver diploma in the Sacred Music
category. In 2003 the choir took part in the ninth Musica Mundi international choir competition
in Budapest, Hungary and was awarded a silver diploma. In 2004 the choir attended the eighth
Musica Mundi international choir competition in Riva del Garda, Italy, winning the silver diploma
in the Girls’ Choir category. One of the most important projects carried out by the choir was
a performance in the Postojna Cave in 2002. The choir was part of the live performance of the
nativity scene with music which was broadcast by TV Koper Capodistria in association with
the RTV Slovenija national television. In 2004 the choir Pueri Cantores held a concert, Pesem
prijateljstva, to celebrate Slovenia’s joining the EU, as well as a number of concerts emphasising
Slovene traditional folk songs. In 2008 Pueri Cantores choir published Na cikasta krawa, folk
songs from the region of Tolmin. Every year the choir performs Christmas concerts in Slovenia
and in Italy.
Il Coro Femminile Pueri Cantores di Tolmin è il rappresentante Sloveno dell’organizzazione
cattolica dei Pueri Cantores. Il coro è attivo da 31 anni sotto la guida del direttore Barbara
Kovačič. Nel 2001 il coro ha partecipato al III Festival Isola del Sole di Grado: nella categoria
cori giovanili ha ottenuto il diploma d’argento con il punteggio più alto e nella categoria musica
sacra, diploma d’argento. Nel 2003 ha partecipato al IX Concorso Musica Mundi a Budapest,
Ungheria e conquistato il diploma d’argento. Nel 2004 ha preso parte all’VIII Concorso Musica
Mundi di Riva del Garda vincendo il diploma d’argento nella categoria cori femminili. Uno dei
progetti più importanti realizzati è stato un concerto nelle grotte di Postumia nel 2002. Il coro
ha cantato al presepio vivente che è stato ripreso dalla TV Capodistria in associazione con la TV
nazionale Slovena. Nel 2004 il Coro Pueri Cantores ha tenuto un concerto per celebrare l’ingresso
della Slovenia nell’Unione Europea e numerosi concerti con un’enfasi particolare verso i canti
tradizionali Sloveni. Nel 2008 il coro ha pubblicato Na cikasta krawa, una raccolta di canti folk
della regione di Tolmin. Ogni anno il Coro Pueri Cantores tiene concerti di Natale in Slovenia ed
in Italia.

Murtosointu Chamber Choir is one of the leading Finnish chamber choirs, named, after, and
conducted by musical director Seppo Murto. The choir was established in January 2003 by singers
from another of Murto’s choirs, the famous Dominante. The original idea, which still applies, was
to form an ambitious chamber choir sized group, suitable for singers beginning their careers after
years of studying. Today the choir has more than thirty active singers. The repertoire covers choir
literature worldwide; recently British music has offered the singers much enjoyment in training
and performing. Murtosointu performs two to four times a year. In its earlier travels abroad, the
choir visited Sweden (2005) and England (2007) for BBC Proms. Besides holding concerts of
its own, Murtosointu cooperates with other choirs for performing bigger works with orchestras
and soloists. This year Murtosointu attended the premier of Finnish composer Jyrki Linjama’s
modern composition called Vanitas. In the same concert, the choir’s tenors and bases sang Richard
Wagner’s Das Liebesmahl der Apostel with the Dominante male voice choir, the male voice choir
of the Marinskij Theater in St. Petersburg, and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Besides
several earlier honours, Seppo Murto has recently been nominated Cathedral Organist of the Year
2013 in Finland.
Il Coro da Camera Murtosointu è uno dei principali gruppi corali della Finlandia, intitolato al
direttore musicale Seppo Murto. Il coro si è costituito nel Gennaio 2003 ed è formato da cantanti
provenienti dal coro Dominante. L’idea originaria, che ancora permane era quella di creare un
ambizioso coro da camera adatto per cantanti che hanno cominciato a lavorare regolarmente dopo
gli anni dedicati agli studi. Il coro risulta composto da una trentina di membri. Il repertorio
del coro abbraccia la letteratura corale mondiale. Recentemente la musica di autori britannici
ha offerto al coro la possibilità di eseguire molti concerti, con grande soddisfazione. Il coro
Murtosointu si esibisce da due a quattro volte l’anno. Il coro ha effettuato tournée in Svezia (nel
2005) e in Inghilterra (nel 2007), nell’ambito dei Proms. Inoltre il coro collabora con altri gruppi
vocali nell’esecuzione di composizioni con orchestre e solisti. Quest’anno ha partecipato alla prima
di ‘Vanitas’ del compositore finnico Jyrki Linjama. Nel medesimo concerto i tenori e i bassi del
coro hanno cantato Das Liebesmahl der Apostel di Wagner insieme al coro maschile Dominante
e al coro maschile del Teatro Marinskij di San Pietroburgo con l’Orchestra Sinfonica della Radio
finlandese. Oltre ai numerosi riconoscimenti, Seppo Murto è stato recentemente nominato
Organista dell’anno 2013, in Finlandia.

The Ensemble Dulcis Aura was founded in 2009 by a group of singers who for years had been
involved in the diffusion of polyphonic music under the guide of Paolo Gattolin. The choir
performs a repertoire of early and baroque sacred music, especially Italian composers such as
Martini, Mattei and others, but it is interested also in the music of the twentieth century, including
that of composers Poulenc and Britten. The choir perform concerts both a cappella and with the
accompaniment of instruments. Recent performances include ‘Missa O Magnum Mysterium’
by da Victoria, ‘Missa Brevis K192’ by Mozart, ‘Magnificat in sol minore’ by Albinoni, Motets
by Poulenc and ‘A Ceremony of Carols’ by Britten. For the anniversary of Ludovico Ariosto (8th
September) the choir performed a different repertoire of secular music by Monteverdi, Hoste
da Reggio, de Wert, Belli, and Blotagrio. The group has a Christmas repertoire taken from the
European tradition, a cappella, with the accompaniment of the harp. Every year the choir takes
part in the Soli Deo Gloria music event in Reggio Emilia.
L’Ensemble Dulcis Aura nasce nel 2009 per iniziativa di un gruppo di coristi che da molti anni
persegue la pratica e la diffusione della musica polifonica classica, sotto la direzione del maestro
Paolo Gattolin. Il coro si dedica soprattutto allo studio del repertorio sacro antico e barocco, in
particolare agli autori italiani (tra cui padre Martini e S. Mattei), ma spazia anche nel repertorio
novecentesco europeo (Poulenc e Britten) ed esegue concerti a cappella o con accompagnamento
musicale. Tra le più recenti esecuzioni: ‘Missa O magnum Mysterium’ di L.T. de Victoria, ‘Missa
Brevis K192’ di W.A. Mozart, ‘Magnificat in sol minore’ di T. Albinoni, vari mottetti di F. Poulenc,

The Youth Choir of the Polyphonic Group of Bortigali was founded in 2008 as a Children’s
Choir under the guidance of Anna Maria Serra. The choir now has fifteen members from eleven
to seventeen years of age. The repertoire of the choir ranges from classical music to spiritual songs,
from sacred music to pieces of folk music from Sardinia, our region. The earliest performances
were in Christmas concerts, organized by the Polyphonic Group of Bortigali, and now the choir is
in great demand for cultural events. In 2011 and 2012 the choir took part in the Musica e Letizia
competition organized by the School of Arborea, in Sardinia, winning the first prize in 2012. In the
same year the choir won the first prize in the Voci d’Argento competition organized by the Opera
Alessandra Rais musical association in Sardinia. During the Christmas concert the youth choir
performed Christmas carols with the polyphonic choir.
Il Coro Giovanile della Corale Polifonica di Bortigali nasce nel 2008 come Coro di Voci
Bianchesotto la guida del maestro Anna Maria Serra. E’ composto attualmente da circa 15 elementi
con un’età compresa tra gli 11 e i 17 anni. Il repertorio del giovane coro spazia dagli autori classici
al canto Gospel, ai canti religiosi e ai canti tipici della lingua sarda. Le prime esibizioni sono state ai
concerti natalizi organizzati dalla Corale Polifonica di Bortigali. Attualmente il coro è chiamato ad
animare anche numerose manifestazioni religiose e manifestazioni culturali varie. Ha partecipato
nel 2011 e nel 2012 al concorso ‘Musica e Letizia’ organizzato dall’Istituto Comprensivo di Arborea
(OR), conseguendo nel 2012 il primo premio. Lo stesso anno ha vinto il primo premio al concorso
Voci d’Argento organizzato dall’Associazione culturale musicale ‘Opera Alessandra Rais’ di
Guspini (VS). In occasione del ‘Concerto di Natale 2012’ il Coro Giovanile si è esibito insieme alla
Corale maggiore eseguendo insieme alcuni brani natalizi.

Amerlingchor was founded in the Amerling High School in Vienna by the director of the
school Dr. Höglinger and the teacher of music Luzia Haidmeyer. In autumn 2009 the choir, now
formed only by ex-students of the school, became a cultural association and appointed Giuseppe
Montesano as its artistic director. Under his guidance the choir has established the technical
and human conditions which have led it to triple the number of singers, to increase its musical
activity a cappella and with the orchestra, and to perform international tours and concerts:
Mozart’s Requiem (Athens 2011), the international festival in Melk (Austria 2011); the Incontri
Corali festival in Pinerolo (Italy 2012); the Infinita Musica festival in Milan (Italy 2012); the Cork
international festival (Ireland 2013). In spring 2013 the Amerlingchor Ensemble chamber choir
was founded through the wish of some choristers to intensify their study of polyphony.
L´Amerlingchor, già coro del Liceo Amerling di Vienna, nasce nell’ambito della vita scolastica
e per iniziativa dell´allora direttore del liceo Amerling di Vienna, il Dr. Höglinger, e di Luzia
Haidmeyer, insegnante di musica nella scuola. Nell’autunno 2009 il Coro, ormai composto solo
da ex-allievi del liceo, si costituisce in associazione culturale e si affida alla direzione artistica
di Giuseppe Montesano, sotto la cui guida si sono costruiti i presupposti tecnici ed umani che
hanno permesso al coro di triplicare il numero dei suoi membri, di intensificare la sua attività
musicale sia a cappella che con orchestra e di realizzare trasferte e concerti all’estero in contesti
internazionali: Requiem di Mozart (Atene 2011), Festival Internazionale di Melk (Melk, Austria
2011), Festival Incontri Corali 2012 (Pinerolo, Torino 2012), Festival dell´Associazione Musicale
Infinita Musica (Milano 2012), Festival Internazionale di Cork (Irlanda, 2013). Nella primavera
del 2013 grazie al desiderio di alcuni membri del coro di volersi dedicare ancor più intensamente
alla bellezza del canto polifonico e a nuove esperienze musicali, si costituisce il gruppo da camera
Amerlingchor Ensemble.

Veter Ljubljana Mixed Youth Choir was formed in 1989 by Jeunesses Musicales Ljubljana in
order to encourage Ljubljana’s high school students’ interest in choral music and offer them
basic vocal training. In autumn 1993 the conductor Ursa Lah took over the choir and under her
direction Veter became one of the best youth vocal ensembles in Slovenia. Since September 2009,
the conductor of the choir has been Tereza Podlogar. The choir’s excellence is confirmed by gold
shields, first prizes and special prizes won at various choral competitions both at home and abroad:
Zagorje, Slovenia (1998, 2000, 2012) Celje, Slovenia (1995, 1997), Neerpelt, Belgium (1996, 1998),
Pohlheim, Germany (1999), Cork, Ireland (2000), Budapest, Hungary (2001), Lindenholzhausen,
Germany (2001), Split, Croatia (2002, 2006), Preveza, Greece (2002, 2004), Arnhem, Netherlands
(2005), Bratislava, Slovakia (2007, 2012). In 2002 the choir performed Carl Orffs’ Carmina Burana
in the Gallus Hall in Cankarjev Dom (Slovenia’s largest concert hall) together with the Symphonic
orchestra of RTV Slovenia. Among its more prominent performances is also the Christmas
concert with RTV Slovenia’s Big Band which was broadcast directly by the European Network of
Broadcasting Stations (EBU). In keeping with its educational objectives, the choir performs pieces
from many different musical eras.
Il Coro Giovanile Misto Veter di Ljubjana è stato fondato nel 1989 da Jeunesses Musicales
Ljubljana per incoraggiare gli studenti delle scuole superiori di Ljubljana ad interessarsi alla
musica corale e offrire loro le basi della tecnica vocale. Nell’autunno del 1993 il direttore Ursa Lah
prese la guida del coro e sotto la sua direzione il coro Veter divenne uno dei migliori ensemble
giovanili della Slovenia. Dal Settembre 2009 direttore del coro è Tereza Podlogar. L’eccellenza del

con lo scopo educativo del coro, il repertorio comprende brani di differenti periodi.

The Chamber Choir of Moscow Power Engineering Institute was founded by Tatiana Konina
in September 2005. The members of the choir are students, graduates and postgraduates of the
Moscow Power Engineering Institute as well as their friends. The choir has performed successfully
on Moscow stages, in Moscow Conservatoire’s halls and in other cities and towns in Russia. The
repertoire of the choir includes Russian folk songs and folk music from different countries,
Russian sacred music and classical compositions of both Russian and foreign composers. The
Chamber Choir of MPEI is a winner of the international youth competitions N. Novgorod, 2008;
Young Prague, Prague 2009; Cantate Domino, Kaunas 2011; From Christmas to Christmas,
Dnepropetrovsk 2013; and The Offering to P. Tchaikovsky, Zelenograd 2013, and is a laureate of
Moscow student art festivals (Moscow, 2008-2013).
Il Coro da Camera dell’Istituto di Ingegneria di Mosca è stato fondato da Tatiana Konina nel
Settembre 2005. I membri del coro sono studenti, diplomati dell’Istituto di Ingegneria di Mosca
ed anche i loro amici. Il coro sta comparendo con successo nel panorama concertistico di Mosca,
presso il Conservatorio di Mosca ed in altre città e località della Russia. Il repertorio del coro include
canzoni della tradizione folk Russa e musica folk di differenti Paesi, musica sacra e composizioni
classiche sia di autori Russi che stranieri. Il coro è stato premiato in numerosi Concorsi: Festival
Giovanile Internazionale di Novgorod, nel 2008; Festival Young Praga nel 2009; al ‘Cantate
Domino’ di Kaunas nel 2011; Festival ‘From Christmas to Christmas’ in Dnepropetrovsk nel 2013;
‘The offering to P.Tchaikovsky’ di Zelenograd nel 2013; Festival di laurea a Mosca nel 2008 e 2013.

Vocal Group Chorus ‘97 from Miren, Slovenia was formed fifteen years ago by singers living
near the border between Slovenia and Italy, in the cities of Gorizia and Nova Gorice. The group
takes part in choral festivals organized in Slovenia and in Italy. The choir has given many concerts
and regularly cooperates with the town council for local celebrations and events, and it has taken
part in many choral competition in Slovenia. The repertoire of the choir is vast: it ranges from
popular songs and Slovenian folk pieces to spirituals and polyphonic sacred music. An important
achievement for the singers was the recording and publication of the CD Pomlad Pod Krasom
(The Carso Spring). The choir performs generally in Slovenia, but also in other nearby countries:
Italy, Austria, the Czech Republic, Spain. The choir has also toured in Canada, the USA, and
Russia (2011). The choir conductor is Laura Winkler.
Il Gruppo Vocale Chorus ‘97 di Miren, Slovenia, annovera già da 15 anni coristi di entrambe le
parti del confine italo-sloveno presso le città di Gorizia e Nova Gorica. Il gruppo vocale partecipa
alle rassegne corali organizzate dalle associazioni corali in Slovenia ed in Italia. Ha al suo attivo
diversi concerti a serate concertistiche e collabora regolarmente con il Comune di residenza
alle festività e celebrazioni locali. Il coro partecipa anche a varie competizioni corali slovene. Il
repertorio del coro è molto vasto. Esso, infatti, comprende le canzoni popolari e d’autore slovene,
gli spritual, la polifonia nonché il repertorio della musica sacra. Un’affermazione importante per i
coristi del Chorus 97 è stata la registrazione e pubblicazione del CD intitolato Pomlad Pod Krasom
– La Primavera del Carso. Il coro si esibisce prevalentemente in Slovenia, ma quasi ogni anno
organizza un viaggio negli stati vicini come l’Italia, Austria, Repubblica Ceca e Spagna. Il coro è
stato artefice anche di tournée in Canada, negli Stati Uniti d’America e nel 2011 in Russia. Il coro
è diretto da Laura Winkler.

The Vocal Music Group Libero was formed in 2010 with the intention of preserving and
developing polyphonic singing in an a capella male group. The repertoire of the group is based
on the Serbian spiritual and folk music tradition but it is enriched by exquisite European musical
works and by music from around the world. The group has the privilege, the honour and the
responsibility of being the role model for the other a capella groups which have been formed in the
last few years in Serbia. The purpose of the artistic work of this group is to promote chamber vocal
ensembles, also to preserve the traditional music of Leskovac and this part of Serbia. But it has
also influenced new genres. This group has given a number of very successful performances in the
city’s cultural events such as the Ledamus concert in June of 2010, 2011, and 2013; the concert at
the Leskovac Festival in October 2010, 2011, and 2012; a concert during the City Concerts season
in May 2013; concerts in Banja Luka, Novi Sad and Jagodina as part of the Tragom Nezaborava
project with the Amorozo chamber orchestra and the Stars children’s choir from Leskovac. The
group achieved great success at the Ohrid choir festival, winning the third prize in a competition
numbering fifty choirs from the whole of Europe in August 2012. The group was able to introduce
itself to a wider audience in the TV programme entitled Ad Libitum on the official television
station (Rts).
Il Gruppo Vocale Libero si è formato nel 2010 con l’intento di preservare e diffondere il canto
polifonico a cappella per gruppi maschili. Il repertorio è basato sulla musica tradizionale folk
della Serbia ma è arricchito da squisiti brani della musica europea e di tutto il mondo. Il gruppo
ha il privilegio, l’onore e la responsabilità di costituire un modello per gli altri gruppi a cappella
che si stanno formando recentemente. L’obiettivo dell’attività artistica di questo gruppo è quello
di promuovere la musica vocale e preservare il patrimonio tradizionale musicale di Leskovac
e di questa parte della Serbia, ma è anche influenzato dai nuovi generi musicali. Il gruppo si è
esibito con successo in importanti eventi culturali in differenti città; citiamo: il concerto Ledamus
in Giugno 2010, 2011, 2013: il concerto al Festival di Leskovac in Ottobre 2010, 2011,2012; un
concerto durante la stagione concertistica della città in Maggio 2013; inoltre concerti a Banja
Luka, Novi Sad e Jagodina con l’orchestra da camera Amorozo e il coro infantile Stars di Leskovac.
Il gruppo ha ottenuto nell’Agosto 2012 al Festival Corale Ohrid, il terzo premio, tra 50 cori
provenienti da tutta Europa. Il gruppo ha avuto l’opportunità di farsi conoscere da una più vasta
audience attraverso il programma televisivo denominato Ad Libitum della TV Ufficiale RTS.

The Concert Youth Choir of the Haydn Music School was founded in 2010. Although the choir
is relatively young, it soon became a leading professional choir and has performed at major
concert halls of Moscow. Aleksandra Samokhvalova (PhD), who founded the choir, is a winner of
national and international competitions of choral conductors. The choir has under her direction
received numerous awards: diploma of the 1st degree at the competition of young teachers and
choirmasters Loktev; winner of the 2nd Music Festival ‘Joseph Haydn and His Time’; winner of
the 2nd degree in the Children’s choir competition and festival Kazachkov (Kazan); winner of the
2nd degree in the 2nd contest and Festival Chista Nebesnaya Lazur; diploma of the 1st degree
‘Hope’ for young choirmasters within the contest and festival Chista Nebesnaya Lazur; diploma
of music festival Sviridov; winner of competition and festival of children’s choirs Struve ‘Music
is always with you’; gold medal at the VII International Choir competition Mozart (Prague) in
category youth choirs and Folk Songs; silver medal at the VII International Choir competition
Mozart (Prague) in category Sacred Music.
Il Coro Giovanile della Scuola di Musica Haydn è stato fondato nel 2010. Sebbene il coro sia
relativamente giovane, è già diventato un coro di alto livello con esperienza di concerti nelle
maggiori sale da concerti di Mosca. Aleksandra Samokhvalova che ha fondato il coro è stata
vincitrice di concorsi per direttori di coro nazionali ed internazionali. Il coro sotto la sua guida
ha ricevuto numerosi riconoscimenti: diploma di primo livello al concorso per giovani direttori
di coro a Loktev; vincitore del II Festival ‘Joseph Haydn and his time’; vincitore del II livello al
Concorso Corale di Kazachkov (Kazan); vincitore del II livello al Festival Chista Nebesnaya Lazur;

The inaugural London International A Cappella Choir Competition will bring together 16 choirs
from around the world to compete in a series of public concerts at St John’s Smith Square
London. A jury of renowned experts, chaired by the director of the award-winning Tallis
Scholars Peter Phillips, will select a winning choir from each of the four preliminary rounds
to compete in a a prestigious final with the chance to win a number of substantial prizes.
Each competing choir will be invited to give a further (publicised) concert at another
prominent London venue during their stay. This year’s festival celebrates the
70th Birthday of Sir John Tavener, whose music will feature throughout
the week.

Anatoly Kiselev - President of Jury - Russia
Anatoly Kiselev, President of the Jury, (b. 1948
in Moscow) is well known today as a composer,
public figure, journalist and teacher. He trained
originally in the Moscow Choir School in the
boys’ choir under Alexander Sveshnikov, then
in the Moscow State Conservatoire (graduated
in 1970). He was mostly influenced by his
teacher, professor of the Moscow conservatory,
Alfred Shnittke. Kiselev writes symphonic,
chamber and sacred music, cantatas, oratorios,
as well as electroacoustic, vocal music, and
music for cinema and children. In 1989, along
with E. Artemiev, he organised the Russian
Association for Electroacoustic Music (AEM).
Vice president of AEM of Russia, represented
AEM of Russia in General Assemblies of ICEM
in Stockholm (1991), Madrid (1992), Oslo (1993) and Geneva (1994). Founded in
1990 in Moscow “Laboratory for electronic and computer music”, of which he was the
Director (till 1998); member of Board the Union of Composers of Russia. He has written
numerous articles for various journals and magazines about problems of electroacoustic
music and written broadcasts at Radio-Moscow. Former Editor in Chief of the journal
on electronic music in Russia – “Music for Synthesizer”. His music in various genres
have been successfully performed in numerous festivals, concerts and broadcast in many
countries. Anatoly Kiselev, Presidente della Giuria, (nato a Mosca nel 1948) è ben conosciuto
come famoso compositore, personaggio pubblico, giornalista, insegnante. A. Kiselev ha
avuto una eccellente preparazione professionale inizialmente presso la Scuola Corale
di Mosca nel Coro dei Ragazzi sotto la guida di Alexander Sveshnikov, poi presso il
Conservatorio Statale di Mosca (diplomato nel 1970). E’ stato fortemente influenzato
dal suo insegnante, professore al Conservatorio di Mosca, il genio, compositore russo
del XX secolo Alfred Shnittke. A Kiselev ha scritto musica sinfonica, per gruppi da
camera e musica sacra; musica vocale, cantate e oratori e musica elettroacustica; musica
per il cinema e per bambini. Nel 1989 A. Kiselev insieme a E. Artemiev ha organizzato
l’Associazione Russa per la Musica Elettroacustica (AEM). A. Kiselev è Vice Presidente
dell’AEM e ha rappresentato l’AEM nell’Assemblea Generale dell’IFCM a Stoccolma nel
1991, a Madrid nel 1992, a Oslo nel 1993, Ginevra nel 1994 e in altre occasioni. Nel 1990
A. Kiselev ha fondato a Mosca il ‘Laboratorio per la musica elettronica e computerizzata’,
di cui è stato Direttore fino al 1998 ed è membro dell’Unione dei Compositori Russi .
Ha scritto numerosi articoli per differenti giornali e riviste sui problemi della musica
elettroacustica e realizza trasmissioni musicali per Radio-Mosca. E’ stato direttore
principale del giornale sulla musica elettronica in Russia “Music for Synthesizer”. La
sua musica, in vari generi, è stata eseguita con successo in numerosi festival, concerti e
trasmissioni radio-televisive in diversi Paesi.

Carmine Catenazzo - Member of the Jury - Italy
Born in Altamura (Ba) in 1965, Carmine
Catenazzo, member of the Jury, graduated with
honours in Organ and Organ Composition and
harpsichord at the Conservatory of Music “E.
R. Duni “of Matera where he also studied piano
and composition. At the same Conservatory
he received with honours the Second Level
Academic Diploma in Conducting. He
attended organ courses with Endre Viragh,
Luigi Celeghin and Klemens Schnorr and
choral conducting courses with Bruno Zagni.
His varied and intense concert activity includes
concerts both as a soloist and organ continuo,
harpsichordist, piano accompanist, directing
choirs and orchestras. He has worked as chorus
master with Piero Bellugi, Nicola Samale,
Vincenzo Perrone, Nicola Ventrella, Vito Clemente, Jürgen Böhme, Luis Bacalov and
Rino Brown. He is the Artistic Director of Matera Pholiphonic Association “Pierluigi
da Palestrina” and for over 20 years Master of the Choir, with wich he performed many
concerts in Italy and abroad, and produced two CDs distributed by Edizioni Paoline.
He is Artistic Director of the International Choral Competition “Antonio Guanti” of
Matera. He teaches at the Conservatory of Music “Egidio Romualdo Duni” of Matera.
Carmine Catenazzo, membro della Giuria, si è diplomato in Organo e Composizione
Organistica e in Clavicembalo presso il Conservatorio di Musica “Duni” di Matera
dove ha studiato anche Pianoforte e Composizione. Presso lo stesso Conservatorio ha
conseguito il Diploma Accademico di secondo Livello in Direzione d’Orchestra. Ha
seguito corsi di perfezionamento di Organo con E. Viragh, L. Celeghin e K. Schnorr
e di Direzione Corale con B. Zagni. La sua attività concertistica comprende concerti
all’organo sia come solista che come basso continuo, al clavicembalo, al pianoforte come
accompagnatore di cantanti, alla direzione di formazioni corali e orchestrali. Tra i tanti
concerti, ricordiamo: due tournée italiane all’organo con il Coro dell’Università del
Saarland e con il Bach – Chor di Bonn; la tournée all’organo nel Saarland (Germania),
l’incisione, come direttore d’orchestra, del CD “Weke” del compositore V. Cipriani; le
collaborazioni come Maestro Preparatore del Coro Lirico della Provincia di Potenza,
con il M° L. Bacalov e con l’Orchestra ICO della Magna Grecia, che ha diretto nel
“Requiem” KV626 di W. A. Mozart; le collaborazioni come direttore d’orchestra con
il Festivallatilla di Casamassima (Ba); il concerto alla Carnegie Hall di New York con
l’Orchestra da Camera del Conservatorio “Duni” diretta dal M° D. Belardinelli; come
direttore d’orchestra, la Prima Esecuzione Mondiale della “Sinfonia Eucaristica” del M°
P. A. Pierucci a Gerusalemme (Giardino del Getsemani, in mondovisione), Ginevra
(Aula delle Nazioni Unite), Milano (Duomo) e Matera. E’ Direttore Artistico del Coro
della Polifonica Materana “Pierluigi da Palestrina”, con il quale ha tenuto numerosissimi
concerti e realizzato due CD musicali. E’ Direttore Artistico del Concorso Corale “A.
Guanti” di Matera. E’ docente presso il Conservatorio di Musica “Duni” di Matera.

Fedele Fantuzzi - Member of the Jury - Italia
Born in 1956, Fedele Fantuzzi, member
of the Jury, graduated in clarinet, band
instrumentation and score reading at Parma’s
“A. Boito” conservatory. Former teacher
of clarinet, ensemble music, theory and
solfeggio and orchestra conducting at the “C.
Merulo” music school in Castelnuovo Monti
(Reggio Emilia), now a Music Specialist
School. He studied orchestral conducting
at the conservatory of Conegliano Veneto
with Ludmil Descev conductor of Sofia State
Opera, attending the specialization course at
Feltre, obtaining a diploma of merit. Frequent
guest conductor of the “Amadeus” orchestra
of Reggio Emilia, the Sofia chamber orchestra
(Bulgaria) and the Italian Youth Orchestra,
and at the festival of Saludecio, the Ovada
international piano contest. He has also worked with the “Europa Galante” ensemble.
Since 1973, he has been the director of the “La Baita” choir of Scandiano (Reggio Emilia),
with which he has released three CDs, and since March 2006 has been Chairman of
the AERCO (Emilia-Romagna Choir Association). He has received awards for his
research, study and harmonization work on the traditional heritage of Emilia Romagna:
“Caravaggio”(Bergamo), “Venendo giù dai monti” (Piacenza) and “M. Fontanesi”
(Toano-Reggio Emilia). He is frequently invited to be a panel member at the most
important national choir contests. He has written several choral harmonizations, which
are a permanent part of the repertory of many Italian amateur choirs. He has constantly
devoted himself to music teaching in schools and in the choir world. Nato nel 1956, Fedele Fantuzzi, membro della Giuria, si è diplomato in clarinetto,
“strumentazione per banda” e “lettura della partitura” presso il conservatorio “A.Boito”
di Parma. E’ stato Docente di clarinetto, musica d’insieme, teoria e solfeggio, direzione d’orchestra presso l’Istituto musicale “C.Merulo” di Castelnuovo Monti-RE, ora Istituto
musicale di alta formazione. Ha studiato direzione d’orchestra presso il conservatorio
di Conegliano Veneto con il M° Ludmil Descev direttore dell’opera di stato di Sofia,
frequentando il successivo corso di perfezionamento a Feltre ottenendo il diploma di
merito. Come direttore d’orchestra ha svolto intensa attività con l’orchestra “Amadeus”
di RE, l’orchestra da camera di Sofia (Bulgaria), l’orchestra giovanile Italiana. E’ stato
direttore ospite al festival di Saludecio, al concorso internazionale pianistico di Ovada,
e ha inoltre collaborato con l’ensemble “Europa Galante”. Dal 1973 è direttore del coro
“La Baita” di Scandiano-RE col quale ha pubblicato 3 CD , inoltre da marzo 2006 è
Presidente dell’AERCO (Associazione Emiliano Romagnola Cori). Per il suo lavoro di
ricerca, studio e armonizzazione del patrimonio popolare in Emilia Romagna, gli sono
stati conferiti i premi: “Caravaggio”-(BG), “Venendo giù dai monti”-(PC), “M.Fontanesi” (Toano-RE). E’ sovente invitato a far parte di giurie dei più importanti concorsi corali
nazionali. Diverse sue armonizzazioni corali, fanno parte stabilmente del repertorio di
molti complessi corali amatoriali italiani. Da sempre si dedica all’insegnamento della
musica nella scuola e nel mondo corale.

Ilario Muro - Member of the Jury - Italy
Ilario Muro was born in Vercelli where he
studied at the Viotti School of Music. His
introduction to singing came at the age of six,
when he joined the treble voice choir at San
Cristoforo church, Vercelli, under the guidance
of the Dominican friars. He was a pupil of
the late musician and composer Father Dante
Destefanis. He subsequently joined the San
Cristoforo polyphonic choir, becoming ChoirMaster at the age of just eighteen. He moved
to Rimini in 1988 and became Director of the
Youth Choir founded three years previously,
in 1985, at the parish church of Gesù Nostra
Riconciliazione; the choir later took the name
Jubilate Deo. Mr Muro attended courses held
by Marco Gemmani, by Giovanni Acciai and
courses in Gregorian Chant and Semeiotics
held by Professors Oscar Chiodini and Massimo Pacifero at the Santa Cecilia Diocesan
School of Music, Rimini. Mr Muro has also taken part in each of the annual Rimini
International Choral Workshops for choristers and choir directors, held by Andrea
Angelini and by Peter Phillips, Director of the Tallis Scholars. With the Jubilate Deo
Choir, Mr Muro performs almost exclusively sacred music, specialising in Renaissance
polyphonic music. Over the years he has directed the choir in numerous concerts and
liturgical celebrations in Rimini and in many other cities in Italy, including St Peter’s
Basilica and Santa Susanna church, Rome; Milan Cathedral; Basilica of San Francesco,
Assisi and many others. He has taken part in international events including the Diocesan
Pilgrimage to Rome in the Jubilee year 2000 where the Jubilate Deo Choir formed part of
the Diocesan Choir which sang Mass in St Peter’s Square. Ilario Muro is the Province of
Rimini Deputy Delegate to A.ER.CO, the Emilia-Romagna Choirs Association.
Ilario Muro è nato a Vercelli dove ha seguito i corsi del Liceo Musicale Viotti. E’ stato
allievo di Don Dante Destefanis. Passato al coro polifonico fondato nel frattempo sempre
in San Cristoforo, ne divenne il direttore a soli diciotto anni. Dal 1988 si è trasferito a
Rimini ed ha ottenuto la direzione del Coro Gruppo Giovani già fondato nel 1985 presso
la Parrocchia della Riconciliazione, che in seguito ha assunto il nome di Jubilate Deo.
Ha seguito corsi con Marco Gemmani, Giovanni Acciai. Ha anche partecipato a tute
le edizioni del Rimini International Choral Workshop per direttori di coro e coristi,
tenuto da Andrea Angelini e da Peter Phillips, direttore dei Tallis Scholars. Con il Coro
Jubilate Deo si occupa quasi esclusivamente di musica sacra, in particolare di polifonia
rinascimentale, e in questi anni ha effettuato concerti e celebrazioni liturgiche a Rimini,
e nelle principali città italiane, tra le quali spiccano Roma (S.Pietro, S. Susanna), Milano
(Duomo), Assisi (Basilica di S. Francesco), e tante altre, partecipando ad alcune rassegne
internazionali e ad eventi come il Pellegrinaggio Giubilare del 2000 in qualità di coro della
diocesi di Rimini (Messa in Piazza San Pietro). Nell’ambito dell’A.ER.CO (Associazione
Emiliano-Romagnola Cori) è vice delegato per la Provincia di Rimini.

Fabio Pecci - Member of the Jury - Italy
Fabio Pecci, member of the Jury, born in
Rimini, he studied violoncello at Ravenna’s
officially recognized “G. Verdi” Music School
graduating with brilliant results. As a cellist his
busy concert activity has led him to perform
in theatres and concert halls in Italy and
abroad. Awarded in many competitions, he
recorded seven cds for Tactus, Bongiovanni
and other labels. He founded and directs “Le
Allegre Note” treble voice choir and “Note in
Crescendo” youth choir, with which he has also
performed in prestigious theatres. With these
two choirs he has over 400 performances, audio
and television recordings to his credit. With
them he also recorded 3 albums which include
his own choral arrangements. With “Note in Crescendo” he has held concerts in Berlin,
Saint Etienne (Lyon) and in Czech Republic. With Le Allegre Note he also took part
in the production of Te Deum by H. Berlioz, held in Bologna in October 2008, under
the direction of Claudio Abbado, and was responsible for the preparation of the treble
voices in Puccini’s Boheme. An enthusiast of children’s vocalism, he also directs the
activity of Rimini’s “Piccole Voci di Carla Amori” and “Una Canzone per Crescere” at
Valconca Comprehensive School. As choir director, he has received awards and gained
recognition in National and International Competitions. From 2013 he is a member of
the Artistic Committee of A.E.R.CO – The Regional Choirs Association.
Nato a Rimini, Fabio Pecci, membro di Giuria, si diploma in violoncello presso
l’Istituto Pareggiato G. Verdi di Ravenna. Come strumentista ha al suo attivo oltre 600
concerti in Italia, Francia, Svizzera, Svezia, Portogallo. Ha inciso sette CD per Tactus,
VideoRadio, Malleus, Bongiovanni. Premiato in vari concorsi (Stresa, Moncalieri,
Genova), attualmente si dedica prevalentemente alla direzione corale di bambini e
ragazzi. Ha inciso tre cd come direttore dei cori Note in Crescendo e Le Allegre Note
di Riccione, contenenti anche sue elaborazioni corali. Dirige il coro giovanile Note In
Crescendo i cori a voci bianche Le Allegre Note (Riccione), Una Canzone per Crescere
(Morciano di R.), Piccole Voci di Carla Amori (Rimini). Ha curato la preparazione delle
voci bianche per il Te Deum di H. Berlioz (Bologna 2008 – Direttore Claudio Abbado),
Bohème (Teatro della Regina di Cattolica e Teatro Borgatti Cento), Tosca (Rimini 2010),
Carmen (Stagione Lirica del Teatro Regina di Cattolica, Rimini Capodanno 2011 e Teatro
dell’Opera Giocosa – Savona Fortezza del Priamàr, estate 2011), Focolare Invernale di
S. Prokofiev, Carmina Burana con i Percussionisti dell’Accademia di Santa Cecilia in
Roma e vari cori lirici. Ha ricevuto tre primi premi assoluti in Concorsi Corali Nazionali
a Faenza (RA) e Treviso, oltre a numerosi altri premi e riconoscimenti. Docente per le
tematiche relative alle voci bianche per il Corso di Direzione Corale di A.E.R.CO, dal
2013 è membro della Commissione Artistica di A.E.R.CO.; è attualmente Presidente
dell’Associazione di Pedagogia Musicale e Musicoterapia ‘Papageno’.

Viktor Zaslavsky - Member of the Jury - Ukraine
Viktor Zaslavsky, member of the Jury, was
born in 1947 in Simferopol, Ukraine. In 1974
he graduated from the music conservatory in
Odessa with a masters in choral conducting.
In the same year Viktor Zaslavsky founded the
youth choir ‘Shkolnie Gody’ (School years)
of which he is still the conductor. The choir
Shkolnie Gody was a winner at the following
international choral competitions and festivals:
Bulgaria (1991, 1992), Poland (1995, 1997,
1999, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2010), Italy (1996,
2008), Spain (1993, 1995, 1997, 2008), France
(1997), Greece (2000), Ukraine (1998, 1999,
2007), Russia (2005, 2006, 2009, 2011, 2013). Viktor Zaslavsky was acknowledged as the
best choirmaster at the international competitions in Hainuvke (Poland, 1996) and St.
Petersburg (Russia, 2009). He has been a member of jury at various international choral
competitions in Ukraine, Russia and Spain. Viktor Zaslavsky is a choirmaster of the
highest degree and has been appointed ‘honoured worker of culture of Ukraine’. Finally
he was awarded the ‘State Prize of Crimea’. Viktor Zaslavsky, membro di Giuria, è nato nel 1947 a Simferopoli, Ucraina. Nel 1974
si è diplomato brillantemente in direzione di coro al Conservatorio di musica di Odessa.
Nello stesso anno ha fondato il Coro Giovanile ‘Shkolnie Gody’ (Anni di scuola) del quale
è tuttora il direttore. Il Coro Shkolnie Gody è stato premiato in innumerevoli concorsi
e festival, tra i quali ricordiamo: Bulgaria (1991, 1992), Polonia (1995, 1997, 1999, 2003,
2004, 2006, 2010), Italia (1996, 2008), Spagna (1993, 1995, 1997, 2008), Francia (1997),
Grecia (2000), Ucraina (1998, 1999, 2007), Russia (2005, 2006, 2009, 2011, 2013).
Viktor è stato premiato come ‘miglior direttore’ ai concorsi corali di Hainuvke (Polonia,
1996) e di San Pietroburgo (2009). E’ stato membro di giuria a concorsi internazionali
in Ucraina, Russia e Spagna. Viktor Zaslavsky è riconosciuto come un direttore di alto
livello ed è stato premiato con l’onorificenza di ‘sostenitore della cultura Ucraina’. Ha
anche ricevuto il ‘premio dello Stato di Crimea’.

Andrea Angelini - Artistic Director - Italy
Born in Bologna, Italy, Andrea Angelini began his piano
studies as a child, at the Rimini Lettimi School. He later earned
a Doctorate of Music at Ferrara’s Frescobaldi Conservatory. His
interests led him to the choral field, and he earned a Bachelor
studying Liturgical Music at Modena and at the International
Art Academy in Rome with Fulvio Angius. He also studied
organ at Pesaro’s Conservatory of Music. Finally he got his
PHD in Choral Music at the Cesena Conservatoire of Music.
He is the Artistic Director and Conductor of the professional
group Musica Ficta Vocal Ensemble that frequently performs in
important Festivals in Italy and abroad. For many years, Andrea
Angelini has conducted concerts with the choir Carla Amori,
in Italy and abroad. He has also conducted the Lithuanian
‘Jauna Muzika Choir’, the ‘Belarusian State Choir’, the Latvian
‘Ave Sol’ and the ‘Tudor Consort’ from New Zealand. He is the
Artistic Director and member of the Jury of the international
organ competition, Marcello Galanti. He has been member of
the Jury at many International Choir’s Competitions in Italy,
Europe and Asia. He frequently leads choral workshops in
Italy and abroad. Recently his Masterclass about the “Venetian
Renaissance choral music” has been presented to the students of the prestigious Liszt Music Academy of
Budapest and in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) for the Young Choral Academy. He is the artistic director and one
of the tutors at the Rimini International Choral Workshop, where he teaches with Peter Phillips of the Tallis
Scholars. Mr. Angelini is also the artistic director of the ‘Rimini International Choral Competition’ and of the
‘Liviu Borlan Choral Competition’ (Romania). His professional memberships include the Artistic Committee
of AERCO (Regional Association of Choirs), ACDA (American Choral Directors Association). He is a regular
reviewer for the press. He is the Chief Editor of the International Choral Bulletin (ICB), the membership
magazine of the IFCM (International Federation for Choral Music). He has written numerous transcriptions
and arrangements for choirs and chamber ensembles. His transcription of Faure’s Requiem is published by
Gelber Hund Verlag of Berlin, who are also publishers of a book of repertoire for organ and violin, edited
by Mr. Angelini. For the American CanticaNOVA Publication, he has prepared transcriptions of important
Renaissance Motets. He has published his composition with Eurarte and Ferrimontana.
Andrea Angelini ha iniziato presto lo studio del Pianoforte presso il Liceo Musicale Lettimi di Rimini per
diplomarsi poi presso il Conservatorio “Frescobaldi” di Ferrara. Ha studiato anche organo sostenendo gli
esami al Conservatorio di Pesaro. Dedicatosi contemporaneamente all’attività corale compie studi di Direzione
all’Accademia Internazionale delle Arti di Roma ove si diploma con il M° Fulvio Angius. Si è perfezionato
in questa disciplina con Giovanni Acciai e con Peter Phillips dei “Tallis Scholar” all’International School of
Oakham (Inghilterra). Ha conseguito il diploma in Direzione di Coro al Conservatorio di Cesena. E’ direttore
del Coro Polifonico “Carla Amori” di Rimini e dell’Ensemble professionale “Musica Ficta” con i quali ha
diretto concerti in Italia e all’estero. Ha collaborato, come direttore ospite, con il Coro “Jauna Muzika” a
Vilnius, con il Coro “Ave Sol” a Riga, con il “Belarus State Choir” e con il Coro Neozelandese “The Tudor
Consort”. E’ ideatore, Direttore Artistico e membro della Giuria del Concorso Organistico Internazionale
“Marcello Galanti” di Mondaino. E’ stato membro della giuria di numerosi Concorsi Internazionali Corali
e di Organo. E’ spesso chiamato a tenere corsi di musica corale antica presso prestigiose istituzioni estere.
E’ direttore artistico e docente dei Corsi Internazionali per direttori di Coro organizzati dall’Associazione
Musicale “Musica Ficta” ove insegna con Peter Phillips (The Tallis Scholars). Ha pubblicato trascrizioni per le
Case Editoriali Gelber-Hund e Canticanova. Sue composizioni sono pubblicate da Ferrimonatana ed Eurarte.
E’ direttore responsabile di ICB, la Rivista Corale dell’IFCM (International Federation for Choral Music).

1 - Classi di Concorso
Il Concorso Corale Internazionale Città di Rimini comprende cinque Classi normali (A, B, C, D, E) e una classe speciale (X). I
Gruppi potranno partecipare anche a tutte e cinque le classi normali di concorso.
A – Cori a Voci Pari (Maschili o Femminili)
B – Cori a Voci Miste
C – Cori di Bambini e Giovanili (Maschili, Femminili, Misti, con età massima di 20 anni. E’ consentito un massimo del
10% dei partecipanti con età superiore ai limiti dati, ma comunque entro i 24 anni. Gli organizzatori si riservano il diritto di
controllare l‘età dei coristi e di valutare casi particolari.)
D - Cori con repertorio popolare e o spiritual/gospel (Maschili, Femminili, Misti)
E - Cori con repertorio esclusivo di Musica Sacra (Cori Misti, a Voci uguali, Infantili e Giovanili)

B, C, D, E, riceverà una medaglia d’argento massiccio cesellata a mano mentre il terzo coro premiato nelle stesse categorie
riceverà una medaglia di bronzo cesellata a mano. Il Comitato Organizzatore si riserva il diritto di aggiungere anche altri
premi. I Cori saranno giudicati secondo il seguente criterio:

In base al punteggio ricevuto verranno consegnati ai Cori Diplomi di bronzo, argento e oro, secondo il seguente schema. I
Cori il cui punteggio sarà sotto il minimo (sino a 65,00 compreso) riceveranno comunque un attestato di partecipazione. Ogni
giurato compilerà un report scritto contenente le valutazioni e le impressioni per ogni coro ascoltato durante le gare. Il report
sarà possibilmente in lingua inglese.

c) Due brani di libera scelta di qualsiasi periodo desiderato.
La durata del repertorio eseguito dovrà obbligatoriamente essere compresa tra 11 e 15 minuti di “puro canto” (intendendo la
sola durata dei brani, escluso gli applausi, il tempo tra un pezzo e l’altro ed il tempo per salire e scendere dal palco). Il Coro
potrà cantare non più di due brani con accompagnamento strumentale.
- CLASSE C: La scelta del repertorio da eseguire, per la classe C è libera per ogni Coro, purché comunque comprenda quattro
brani come segue:
a) Un brano scritto prima del 1900, cantato in qualunque lingua, a cappella o con accompagnamento strumentale
b) Due brani scritti dopo il 1900 da compositori della stessa Nazione di provenienza del Coro. Almeno uno di questi
brani dovrà essere cantato nella lingua originale del compositore. Almeno un brano dovrà essere eseguito a cappella.
c) Un brano di libera scelta di qualsiasi periodo desiderato e in qualsiasi lingua, eseguito a cappella.
La durata del repertorio eseguito dovrà obbligatoriamente essere compresa tra 11 e 15 minuti di “puro canto” (intendendo la
sola durata dei brani, escluso gli applausi, il tempo tra un pezzo e l’altro ed il tempo per salire e scendere dal palco). Il Coro
potrà cantare non più di due brani con accompagnamento strumentale.
- CLASSE D: La scelta del repertorio da eseguire, per la classe D è libera per ogni Coro, purché comunque comprenda
quattro brani come segue:
un programma di elaborazioni corali di canti di tradizione orale e di canti tradizionali della propria Nazione OPPURE
un programma di negro spiritual e gospel.
Dovrà essere inviata per ogni partitura una traduzione in lingua italiana o inglese del testo verbale oppure una sua
sintesi. È ammesso l’uso di strumenti idiofoni o di strumenti etnomusicologicamente o storicamente giustificati. È inoltre
particolarmente gradita l’integrazione del canto con movimenti coreografici, stilisticamente giustificati, per i quali potrà
essere assegnata una menzione speciale.
La durata del repertorio eseguito dovrà obbligatoriamente essere compresa tra 8 e 12 minuti di “puro canto” (intendendo la
sola durata dei brani, escluso gli applausi, il tempo tra un pezzo e l’altro ed il tempo per salire e scendere dal palco).
- CLASSE E: La scelta del repertorio da eseguire, per la classe E è libera per ogni Coro, purché comunque comprenda quattro
brani come segue:
a) Un brano di un autore del periodo Rinascimentale, Barocco oppure Classico. La Giuria terrà molto in considerazione

La scelta del repertorio da eseguire, per la classe X è libera per ogni Coro, purché comunque comprenda tre brani come

a) Un brano scritto prima del 1900.
b) Un brano scritto dopo il 1900.
c) Un brano di libera scelta di qualsiasi periodo desiderato.

The Rules of the Competition (resume)
1 - Classes
The Rimini International Competition includes five normal Classes (A, B, C, D, E) and a special Class (X). The same
competing Group may participate in all the five normal Classes, if it wishes.
A - Equal Voices Choirs (Male or Female)
B - Mixed Voice
C - Children and Young Choirs (Male, Female and Mixed. Singers maximum age is 20 years old. It is accepted that not more
than 10% of the singers may have more than 20 years but anyway no more than 24 years. The Organizers reserve the right to
check the age and to evaluate single cases)
D - Folk or Gospel/Spiritual Choirs (Male, Female or Mixed)
E - Sacred Music (Mixed, Equal Voices, Young and Children Choirs with entire repertoire of sacred music)
X - “City of Rimini International Choral Prize” Competition (the winners and runners-up from each of the classes, A, B
and C - if their score is higher than 80,01 points - must be prepared to compete in this class).

The Jury will not assign any ex-aequo prize. The first prize-winners of classes A, B, C will receive a trophy specially handcrafted for the Competition. The second prize-winner of classes A, B, C, D, E will receive a solid silver hand-made medal.
The third prize-winner of classes A, B, C, D, E will receive a solid bronze hand-made medal. The Committee reserves the
right to add other prizes. Choirs will be judged according the following criteria:

3 - Repertoire CLASSES A and B: The programme choice, for Classes A and B, is left to each ensemble, but it must include four works, as

a) One piece by a composer of the Renaissance, Baroque or Classical period. The Jury will evaluate especially fidelity to
style.
b) One piece written after 1900.
c) Two pieces chosen freely from any period desired.
The total duration of performed repertoire must be between 11 and 15 minutes of pure singing time (that is, the duration
of the performed pieces excluding applause and going onto or leaving the stage). The choir must sing at least 2 pieces “a
cappella” (without any instrumental accompaniment).
CLASS C: The programme choice for Class C, is left to each ensemble, but it must include four works, as follow:
a) One piece written before 1900, sung in any language, performed a cappella or with instrumental accompaniment.
b) Two pieces written after 1900 by composers of the same Country of the choir. At least one of the two pieces must be
sung in the original language of the composer and at least one of the two must be performed a cappella.
c) One piece chosen freely from any period desired and in any language, performed a cappella
The total duration of performed repertoire must be between 11 and 15 minutes of pure singing time (it is the duration
of the performed pieces excluding applause and going onto or leaving the stage) The choir must sing at least 2 pieces “a
cappella” (without any instrumental accompaniment).
CLASS D: The programme choice for Class D, is left to each ensemble, but it must include four works, as follow:
a programme including choral arrangements of folk and traditional songs from the choir’s native country OR spirituals
and gospels.
An Italian or English translation of the lyrics or a summary of each score must be sent. The use of idiophonic or ethnomusicologically or historically justified instruments is allowed. The combination of (stylistically justifiable) choreographic
movements together with singing is also permitted and desirable. This may deserve special merits. The total duration of
performed repertoire must be between 8 and 12 minutes of pure singing time (it is the duration of the performed pieces
excluding applause and going onto or leaving the stage)
CLASS E (Sacred Music): The programme choice, for Class E is left to each ensemble, but it must include four works, as
follow:
a) One piece by a composer of the Renaissance, Baroque or Classical period. The Jury will evaluate especially fidelity to

b) One piece written after 1900.
c) Two pieces chosen freely from any period desired.
