Answering personal questions
There are lots of old
buildings in Chester.
The cathedral is over
1,000 years old and is
very beautiful. You can
walk around the city on
the ancient city walls.
They are Roman and
medieval and they are
over 3km long.
Chester is very good for
shopping, too. The Rows,
in the centre of the city,
are very famous. They are
streets of very old shops
on two levels. They are
full of interesting shops.
Lots of people come to
Chester to visit the zoo.
Chester Zoo has got over
7,000 animals and
it’s fantastic. It’s my
favourite place
in Chester!

Conwy is a small town in North Wales. It’s very
historic. It’s got a famous castle, and a lot of
interesting places for visitors. But the town is
famous for a little red fisherman’s cottage. The
cottage is 500 years old and it’s famous because
it’s the smallest house in Britain.
The house has only got two rooms. Downstairs
there’s a living room. There isn’t a kitchen or a
dining room. In the living room there’s a small
table, a seat for two people and some shelves.
The room is dark because there’s only one small
window. Upstairs there’s a bedroom. It’s got a
bed and a shelf, but it hasn’t got a wardrobe.
There aren’t any carpets on the floor.
The rooms in the house are about 3 metres long
and 1.8 metres wide. The house is 3 metres
high. It’s too small for some visitors!
There’s a tap in the cottage, but there isn’t a
bathroom or a toilet! The house isn’t inhabited
now. It’s open to tourists in the summer.

Our school day
In England, 150,000 children
don’t go to school. They
study at home. This is legal
in the UK. Many parents
teach their children at
home. Thomas is 12 and
his sister, Erin, is 9. Their
school day is very unusual,
because they don’t go to
school! They study at home.
Their school day starts at
8.30 a.m. They have lessons
with their mum until
12 o’clock. They study
Maths, English, Science –
the usual school subjects. In
the afternoon they usually
go out. They visit museums
and historic buildings,
or they study nature.
Their dad is a teacher at a
primary school. When he
gets home, at four o’clock,
they have another hour of
lessons with him.
Thomas and Erin study
all the normal subjects
at home, but they don’t
do tests or exams. Their
parents don’t speak any
foreign languages, so they
have a special teacher for
French. She comes to their
house every Wednesday
afternoon for an hour.
Thomas and Erin aren’t
lonely, because they
both go to clubs in town.
Thomas plays cricket and
Erin goes to dance lessons,
and they’ve got friends at
those clubs. Thomas says,
‘Some people think our life
is strange, but we like it.’

Our website is called skateriders.co.uk. We work on
our website for about eight hours every week. We
put information on the site about local skate parks
and clubs. And we sometimes interview local skateboarders. We take photos of them and put them on
the site. My cousin, Nick, is a website designer. He
helps us a lot. Paul and I work well together because
we can do different things. I can write articles and
interview people, but I can’t take very good photos.
Paul has got a digital camera and he can take great
photos.
Paul isn’t here today. He’s taking photos at a
skateboarding competition. I’m answering our emails
today. We get lots of messages and questions about
skateboarding in the UK. The website is very popular,
and now a sports shop
