L'università di Berkeley ha mappato le aree della corteccia cerebrale attivate
durante la proiezione di video. La mente osserva il mondo attraverso i nostri
occhi e senza sosta ordina concettualmente ciò che accade.

IL NOSTRO CERVELLO non si rilassa proprio mai: ogni istante classifica, organizza e
infine archivia tutto ciò che ha visto attraverso gli occhi, creando una sorta di hard
disk dove tutto è perfettamente organizzato in cartelle e sottocartelle.
Un hard disk che la scienza è finalmente riuscita a fotografare. Grazie a una risonanza
magnetica funzionale molto accurata, scienziati californiani dell'università di Berkeley
sono infatti riusciti a realizzare una mappa dettagliata dell'attività della corteccia
cerebrale, capace di rappresentare e mettere in relazione 1705 oggetti ed azioni
diverse ogni volta che guardiamo qualcosa e di organizzare ciò che vede attraverso
due maxi-categorie: facce e animali.
Pochi mesi fa un altro studio pubblicato su Nature Neuroscience, condotto da Florian
Mormann dell'università tedesca di Bonn, aveva dimostrato che ogni volta che
guardiamo un animale si risveglia una delle parti del cervello più antiche dal punto di
vista evolutivo, l'amigdala, quella struttura a forma di mandorla in cui nascono le
emozioni, compresa la paura. Oggi gli scienziati americani, con lo studio "A
continuous semantic space describes the representation of thousands of object and
action categories across the human brain", (letteralmente: "Un continuo spazio
semantico descrive la rappresentazione di migliaia di categorie di oggetti e azioni
attraverso il cervello umano") sono riusciti a fotografare quale è esattamente l'area
che si accende in quel momento, identificando di fatto l'hard disk di informazioni che
ci permette di vivere una vita da esseri pensanti.
Per farlo, gli studiosi hanno realizzato una mappa semantica in funzione di ciò che
vedevano i partecipanti all'esperimento. Mentre questi guardavano due ore di video, il
flusso di sangue che arrivava alle diverse zone del cervello è stato monitorato con la
risonanza magnetica e su questa base è stata costruita la mappa. Vedere
un'automobile o un'imbarcazione attivava aree cerebrali affini, e qualcosa di simile
accadeva guardando un edificio e una porta. Complessivamente i neuroni della
corteccia venivano attivati, quando i partecipanti assistevano ad azioni o fissavano
cose, in una misura pari al 20 per cento dell'intera superficie corticale (visiva e non
visiva) e lo spazio semantico continuo rappresentato, basato cioè non solo su ciò che
avevano visto ma anche sulla relazione esistente tra parole, aveva caratteristiche
simili in tutti i soggetti esaminati.
"La nostra scoperta - ha affermato Alexander Huth dell'Università di Berkeley, che ha
firmato il lavoro su Neuron assieme a Shinji Nishimoto e Jack Gallant - suggerisce
che le scansioni cerebrali potrebbero essere presto impiegate per classificare
un'immagine che qualcuno sta vedendo e che il sistema potrebbe aiutare a insegnare
ai computer a riconoscere meglio le immagini". Ogni neurone, stando ai dati rilevati,
funziona dunque come una sorta di "filtro" che categorizza e ordina le informazioni in
diverse categorie, e questa scoperta potrebbe portare a sviluppi scientifici fino ad
oggi impensabili.
Come nel film del regista tedesco Wim Wenders "Fino alla fine del mondo", dove una
macchina consentiva di registrare i sogni e rivederli su uno schermo, in futuro
potrebbe ad esempio essere possibile registrare ciò che sogniamo e riprodurlo sullo
schermo del computer. "Si tratta di un passo fondamentale verso la ricostruzione
dell'immaginario interiore. Stiamo letteralmente aprendo una finestra sui film della
nostra mente", ha detto il coautore Gallant. Non solo: un domani potrebbe anche
essere possibile aiutare i pazienti in coma o affetti da sindrome del chiavistello a
comunicare, perché le parole potrebbero essere tradotte direttamente dai segnali
elettrici che il cervello emette naturalmente. Tante possibilità, insomma. Basterà non

arrendersi e continuare a indagare quel computer dalle infinite possibilità che è
racchiuso nella nostra scatola cranica.

that the system could help to teach to the computers to recognize better the images". Every

developments thin to today unthinkable.
As in the film of the German director Wim Wenders "up to the end of the world", where a car

formazione, organizzati dal responsabile ARI, Giovanni Romeo.
La cerimonia, presenti l’on. Giuseppe Zamberletti, il capo di Gabinetto della prefettura
Roberto Bolognesi ed il dirigente del servizio Protezione Civile della provincia di
Varese Angelo Gorla, è stata l’occasione per evidenziare l’importanza del sistema
complessivo delle comunicazioni nel settore della protezione civile.
L'attività dei radioamatori risulta essenziale, infatti, nel coordinamento degli interventi
di soccorso e della gestione delle emergenze, soprattutto nelle fasi iniziali di maggiore
criticità.

leggo sempre il notiziario telematico che Tu e la tua Redazione approntate da diversi
anni, grazie per il lavoro impegnativo !
Prendo l'occasione dell'imminente arrivo sul mercato (un po depresso dalla crisi
economica! hi) del TS-990S
che Kenwood rilascia in fascia alta, dopo il suo TS-950SDX del 1989 !!
Per ora il prezzo effettivo in Italia non è del tutto certo, ci sono varie indicazioni. Il TS990S viene prodotto direttamente nei propri stabilimenti in Giappone (Made in Japan,
.. e.non nel sito KWD di Singapore), Si tratta di un progetto innovativo che comprende
funzioni di alto livello tecnologico e quindi di classe alta, e dati anche i tempi di crisi
economica non potrà essere alla portata di chiunque, ma sognare o curiosare sulle
novità radio o tentazioni.. dirette al nostro mondo di radioamatori da parte dei
costruttori di apparati è possibile, anche a costo zero! Poi già sono disponibili tanti
altri modelli di varie marche che hanno valide funzioni tecnologiche, anche a costi più

popolari, quindi non problems! ogniuno potrà fare le proprie selte, hi !

Expo Elettronica si rinnova
Makers, Coslay e Modellismo le novità del 2013
Come ogni anno il calendario di Modena Fiere si apre, sabato 19 e domenica 20 gennaio 2013,
con Expo Elettronica, la grande fiera dedicata all’elettronica professionale e di consumo. Si
tratta di uno degli appuntamenti più importanti a livello nazionale, dove trovare migliaia di
articoli di informatica, telefonia, tablet, home theatre, accessori per console e videogiochi, audio
car, navigatori, piccoli elettrodomestici, illuminazione, materiali di consumo per la casa, lo
studio e il lavoro, ricambi, minuteria e prodotti per l’hobbistica e il fai da te.
Punto di forza della mostra mercato, oltre all’assortimento merceologico, sono i prezzi che, grazie a
prodotti di importazione diretta o surplus, possono toccare un ribasso fino all’80% rispetto ai canali di
distribuzione tradizionali.
Nell’ambito di Expo Elettronica (e con un unico ticket d’ingresso) il pubblico quest’anno troverà tre
interessanti, e divertenti, novità.
La prima riguarda Mo.Ma Modena Makers, un nuovo evento divulgativo dedicato ai makers e alle
tecnologie open source, che si pone l’obiettivo di presentare una panoramica comprensibile a tutti
sulle nuove opportunità che la tecnologia offre, ad oggi, a tutti coloro che vogliano cimentarsi
nell’autocostruzione.

Mo.Ma è diviso in due aree. In galleria il Fab Lab Reggio Emilia, le Officine Arduino e Kentstrapper
allestiranno il Mo.Ma FabLab; uno spazio a disposizione dei maker allestito con una stampate 3D
ShareBot Pro con doppio estrusore, un laser cutter, una fresa e un kinect per scansione 3d. All'interno
del temporary FabLab di Mo.Ma troveranno spazio una serie di attività in cui il pubblico sarà invitato
ad interagire ed approfondire le tematiche legate al framework Arduino e alla stampa in 3D, grazie ai
suggerimenti degli esperti.
Il Fab Lab di Reggio Emilia il primo laboratorio di fabbricazione digitale ad aprire in Emilia
Romagna; uno spazio a disposizione di coloro che vogliano cimentarsi con i nuovi metodi del disegno
e della stampa in 3D e con l’universo del DIY (do it yourself). Officine Arduino rappresenta in Italia il
framework che permette la prototipazione rapida e l'apprendimento veloce dei principi fondamentali
dell'elettronica e della programmazione; la sua relativa semplicità e il fatto di essere open source
hanno favorito la rapida diffusione fra hobbisti e piccole imprese. Kentstrapper è una giovane impresa
fiorentina specializzata nella progettazione e produzione di RepRap Galileo e RepRap Prusa
stampanti 3D open source. Partita come impresa a carattere familiare, oggi Kentstrapper è una realtà
forte della collaborazione di professionisti con background e capacità eterogenee, in grado di
progettare e produrre strumenti all’avanguardia per la stampa tridimensionale.
All’interno del padiglione A, Fare Elettronica – Inware edizioni presenta un’area didattica con mini
conferenze a cura di Robot Factory, costruttore di 3D-One, dedicate ai vantaggi della stampa 3D nella
prototipazione: tecnologie di stampa, scelta dei materiali, utilizzo di una stampante 3D, software per la
stampa 3D. Sempre nell’arena di Fare Elettronica Roberto Navoni di Virtualrobotix illustrerà i
principi di costruzione e il funzionamento degli UAV, i Droni volanti che vengono utilizzati per
riprese, rilievi e operazioni di soccorso.
L’ITI Corni di Modena sarà presente con alcuni interessanti progetti realizzati dagli studenti e
organizzerà una serie di incontri su vari argomenti in ambito tecnico ed elettronico.
Cos.Mo Cosplay Modena è la versione 2.0 della tradizionale fiera del fumetto; una fiera a misura di
cosplayer. Per tutto il weekend si svolgerà la mostra mercato del fumetto usato e da collezione che
abbraccia tutti i gusti: i classici almanacchi Walt Disney, i supereroi Marvel Comics, i protagonisti di
Sergio Bonelli editore. Ma anche i trasgressivi Frigidaire, Metal Extra, ed altro ancora. Per chi
desidera una tavola d’autore tantissimi disegni di autori esteri od italiani, fra cui i sensuali di Milo
Manara e Crepax, le atmosfere esotiche di Hugo Pratt e bozzetti per spot pubblicitari.
Non mancheranno ovviamente i Manga, i fumetti giapponesi che dagli anni Ottanta si sono via via
affermati nel nostro paese grazie anche alla massiccia diffusione di cartoni animati sulla RAI e nelle
tante TV private dell’epoca. Tra le serie più famose, diventate veri e propri cult, Goldrake, Mazinga,
Heidi, Candy Candy, Capitan Harlock, Carletto il principe dei mostri, Lupin III, Dragonball e tanti
altri.
Sulla scia dei cartoons asiatici nasce il Cosplay, che descrive l’hobby di divertirsi vestendosi come il
proprio personaggio preferito e inscenando brevi esibizioni in cui i cosplayer recitano la parte del
personaggio di cui indossano il costume, re-interpretando fedelmente determinati passaggi del film,
fumetto o serie TV da cui il personaggio è stato tratto, oppure fornendone una divertente parodia.
Un vero e proprio fenomeno di costume che vede protagonisti migliaia di adulti nostalgici dei
beniamini dell’infanzia e dell’adolescenza. A Cos.Mo, grazie alla collaborazione con lo staff di B.H.C
Best Horror Cosplay, gli appassionati troveranno ampi camerini attrezzati con specchi, sedie e tavoli,
un buffet per ristorarsi fra un’esibizione e l’altra, un guardaroba custodito, il grande Palco a "T" dotato

di luci colorate per sfilate ed esibizioni e un Photoset professionale. Tutto l’evento sarà ripreso in
FULL HD e visibile sul canale dei B.H.C
Mo.Del è invece il nuovo settore dedicato al modellismo statico e dinamico, una grande passione che
coinvolge tantissimi appassionati. Gli ambiti sono i più diversi così come il know how dei costruttori:
aeromodellismo, automodellismo e piste, modellismo navale, ferroviario, camion e mezzi d’opera,
fuoristrada, drift, elicotteri. Si spazia dal modellismo civile a quello militare, statico o dinamico,
elettrico o radiocomandato con automatismi più o meno sofisticati.
Anche nel modellismo le possibilità aperte dalle nuove tecnologie quali Arduino e stampanti 3D sono
molto interessanti perché permettono una customizzazione totale delle proprie realizzazioni, la
possibilità di disegnare e stampare direttamente modelli e diorami e di condividerli in rete con altri
modellisti.
Gradito ritorno per la Mostra Mercato del Disco, Cd e Dvd usato e da collezione. Nell'epoca della
musica digitale, ormai completamente dematerializzata, dischi e cd sono davvero oggetti da collezione
attraverso i quali rivivere momenti cult della storia della musica. Fino agli anni Ottanta il vinile è stato
il supporto leader per incidere ed ascoltare musica. Un sound personalissimo e ricco di fascino, al
punto che anche oggi sia star internazionali che musicisti ‘indie’ scelgono di uscire non più solo in
digitale ma anche con dischi in vinile. Non mancheranno inoltre migliaia di titoli in CD, libri e gadget
legati al mondo della musica. Torna anche Colleziosa, il mercatino per collezionisti dove trovare di
tutto un po’ compreso materiale fotografico analogico, radiantismo, memorabilia, cimeli, gadget
pubblicitari e tante altre curiosità.

un grande mercato di cose vecchie e
antiche, ospite negli accoglienti spazi
di Cesena Fiera.
Il suo successo fra gli operatori si
deve ad alcuni semplici ma decisivi
fattori: varietà di articoli proposti,
facilità di accesso al quartiere
fieristico, garanzia di svolgimento del
mercato anche in caso di maltempo,

bassi costi di partecipazione e ingresso e parcheggio gratuito per il pubblico.
Aspetti che ne hanno decretato nel corso di pochi anni un ottimo successo con la presenza,
nella maggioranza delle nove edizioni annuali, di trecento espositori provenienti da tutta Italia.
In vendita si trovano varie tipologie di articoli... dai piccoli oggetti ai pezzi più importanti come
mobili, quadri, ceramiche, libri ed altro ancora; dal Seicento fino al secolo scorso. Ad ogni
edizione
l’organizzazione
controlla
la
qualità
dei
pezzi
proposti.
Questa attenta selezione è un aspetto molto apprezzato, sia dal pubblico sia dagli operatori.

Mal di Marte? Il problema è il sonno,
l'insidia più grave per gli astronauti
L'analisi dei primi dati dell'esperimento Mars 500, che ha simulato un viaggio
spaziale di 17 mesi verso il Pianeta Rosso, rivela che i problemi più seri
deriverebbero dall'alterazione del ciclo normale sonno-veglia, con conseguenze
su comportamento, rendimento ed umore ed un impatto sull'equilibrio
psicofisico dell'equipaggio.
MARTE ? Ancora troppo lontano per noi. I primi dati emersi dall'esperimento
internazionale Mars 500, che ha simulato un viaggio nello spazio di 520 giorni alla
volta del Pianeta Rosso, rivelano alterazioni del ciclo sonno-veglia che incidono su
comportamento, rendimento ed umore con un impatto sull'equilibrio psicofisico.
Problemi che andranno risolti prima di poter pensare ad affrontare davvero con
successo il viaggio.

Uno studio pubblicato su Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences condotto
dalla Perlman School of Medicine dell'università della Pennsylvania e dal Baylor
College of Medicine identifica nei disturbi del riposo notturno l'insidia principale che
potrebbe creare problemi agli astronauti impegnati in missioni prolungate nello
spazio.
L'esperimento, sviluppato dall'Institute for Biomedical Problems (Ibmp) della Russian
Academy of Sciences e sponsorizzato parzialmente dalla European Space Agency, è
partito il 3 giugno del 2010 quando le porte
dell'astronave-bunker alla periferia di Mosca si sono chiuse sull'equipaggio - sei
volontari, fra cui l'italo-colombiano Diego Urbina - che ha vissuto 17 mesi lontano da
tutto, con lo scopo di studiare le reazioni fisiche e mentali dell'organismo
all'isolamento prolungato in spazi ristretti.
In quei 550 metri cubici sono stati condotti un centinaio di esperimenti per simulare
in modo realistico gli effetti di un volo a lungo termine nello spazio. L'equipaggio è
stato monitorato nei momenti di attività e di riposo, ne è stato valutato il rendimento
nei diversi test e le risposte psicologiche per valutare l'impatto della mancanza di
sonno, dell'affaticamento, dello stress e delle situazioni di conflitto emerse durante la
missione.
Quello che è emerso in una delle prime analisi dei dati raccolti durante lo studio è che
alcuni membri dell'equipaggio hanno sofferto dell'isolamento più di altri mostrando
segni di lieve depressione. Col tempo è aumentata la sedentarietà e la maggior parte
del gruppo ha avuto problemi col sonno, sperimentando deficit di attenzione e altri
disturbi. Uno di loro, poi, ha perso completamente il normale ciclo sonno-veglia
basato sulle 24 ore terrestri: rimaneva sveglio mentre gli altri dormivano e col tempo
ha accumulato un deficit di riposo che ne ha compromesso il rendimento.
Il messaggio, secondo gli autori, è chiaro: Marte non è una passeggiata e non tutti
hanno la stoffa adatta ad un viaggio così estremo. Pensando ad una futura missione,
la selezione dell'equipaggio dovrà essere attenta, valutare le vulnerabilità individuali e
mettere in conto un periodo adeguato di addestramento.
Fondamentale sarà riprodurre artificialmente le condizioni che facilitano il normale
ciclo sonno-veglia a partire dalla luce di giorno e dal buio notturno, senza tralasciare i
ritmi dell'alimentazione e l'esercizio fisico; dinamiche necessarie per assicurare il
benessere neurocognitivo degli astronauti durante il viaggio.
Da Mars 500 si possono trarre conclusioni utili anche per chi rimane a Terra. I
problemi legati ai disturbi del sonno, ricordano gli autori, affliggono sempre più
frequentemente le società industrializzate, con stili di vita sedentari, esposizione
prolungata alla luce artificiale e interruzione dei normali ritmi di riposo e attività, per
colpa di turni di lavoro sempre più prolungati. "Dobbiamo riflettere e rivalutare il modo
in cui consideriamo il sonno, perché è legato alla salute complessiva e alla capacità di
condurre una vita produttiva", sottolinea David Dinges, co-autore dello studio:
"dormire", conclude, "è essenziale per vivere, come l'acqua e il cibo".

suitable of training.
Fundamental it will be to artificially reproduce the conditions that facilitate in the daytime the
normal cycle sleep-vigil beginning from the light and from the nighttime dark, without skipping
the rhythms of the feeding and the physical exercise; necessary dynamics to assure the comfort
neurocognitivo of the astronauts during the trip.
From Mars 500 useful conclusions can also be drawn for the one who he/she remains to Earth.

2013 Anno Internazionale della Cooperazione dell'Acqua

Presentazione
Apriamo il nuovo anno astronomico con le celebrazioni proclamate dall'ONU
e dall'UNESCO per l'anno 2013, ricordando ad ognuno di noi quanto è
prezioso questo bene comune che scorre liquido sul nostro pianeta: l'Acqua.
Principale costituente di ogni forma di vita e dell'ecosistema terrestre; ma
anche uno degli elementi costitutivi dell'Universo, l'Acqua è formata da
Idrogeno ed Ossigeno, in quanto due atomi di idrogeno H sono legati
all'atomo di ossigeno O, generando un composto chimico di formula
molecolare con simbolo H2O. Ma, la domanda che si pone è: quali altri corpi
celesti ospitano l'Acqua ?
Prima di iniziare il nostro viaggio nello spazio alla ricerca dell'Acqua è
importante capire il meccanismo che ha permesso la presenza dell'Acqua sulla
Terra. E, qui, le teorie formulate dagli scienziati sono diverse. Infatti, ce chi
sostiene la teoria evolutiva della “Panispermia”, ovvero l'impatto casuale sulla
Terra di un'enorme cometa, avvenuto circa 4,7 miliardi di anni fa e che ha
fecondato il nostro pianeta; altri invece sostengono la teoria creativa
“Progetto Divino” così come riportato nel capitolo della Creazione del Vecchio
Testamento. Resta di fatto che, grazie alla posizione in cui si trova il nostro
pianeta nella “Fascia di Abitabilità” del nostro Sistema Solare, ed alle sue
condizioni orbitali, l'Acqua scorre liquida, mantenendo stabile la vita sul
pianeta Terra. La dinamica terrestre è caratterizzata da tre parametri
importanti: 1° il movimento di rotazione della Terra sul proprio asse, autore
dell'avvicendarsi del giorno e della notte e, quindi, di una omogenea
distribuzione dell'irragiamento solare su tutto il pianeta; 2° l'obbliguità
dell'asse terrestre, causa dell'avvicendamento delle stagioni nei due emisferi
terrestri (emisfero boreale e emisfero australe); 3° l'eccentricità dell'orbita
intorno al Sole, cioè: il Perielio (punto di minima distanza dal Sole) e l'Afelio
(punto di massima distanza dal Sole), causati dal movimento di rivoluzione
della Terra intorno al Sole in 365 giorni. Per cui, grazie a questi tre parametri
fondamentali, questa sostanza liquida, costituita da un gas incolore ed
insapore, formata da due elementi chimici: l'Idrogeno e l'Ossigeno rappresenta
una ricca risorsa del nostro pianeta. Purtroppo questa fonte di vita comincia

ad esaurirsi a causa dello spreco e degli sconvolgimenti climatici provocati
dall'uomo. Pertanto, l'ONU e l'UNESCO, allo scopo di sensibilizzare gli abitanti
della Terra ad una razionale ed equa distribuzione di questo bene comune,
hanno proclamato il 2013 Anno Internazionale della Cooperazione dell'Acqua,
nella speranza di evitare catastrofi causate da siccità e da desertificazioni.
Comunque, va detto che l'Universo è ricco di acqua e che anche alcuni corpi
celesti del nostro Sistema Solare, contengono acqua; forse liquida.
E' stato accertato infatti, che al Polo Sud Lunare, nel cratere di Aitken, vi è
una immensa quantità di acqua perennemente ghiacciata, perchè i raggi solari
non riescono a raggiungere quella latitutidine e la temperatura è
costantemente di -175°. A scoprire questo enorme giacimento di ghiaccio fu la
sonda Lunar Prospector che il 7 Gennaio 1998 inviò alla NASA i primi dati
sulla presenza di H2O sulla superficie lunare. Successivamente, il 18 Giugno
2009, fu la volta della sonda Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter ha sorvolare il
Polo Sud della Luna, confermando la presenza di particelle di vapore acqueo
rilevati nel fondo dei crateri. Infine, il 9 Ottobre 2009, la missione Lunar
Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite, sparò un razzo della classe Centauro
nel cratere Cabeus (sempre al Polo Sud lunare) che procurò un buco profondo
circa 30 metri, con l'emissione (Ejecta) di materiale lunare: rocce, sedimenti
lunari e ghiaccio d'acqua. Dunque, la presenza di acqua sulla Luna era
definitivamente confermata nei crateri del Polo Sud del nostro satellite.
Parlando poi di Marte, è recente la notizia della conferma di ghiaccio d'acqua
ai Poli marziani. Va detto che questo pianeta, nella sua dinamica è molto
simile alla Terra (l'asse marziano è inclinato di 25° e 19'; il movimento di
rotazione sul proprio asse è di 24h e 39'; il movimento di rivoluzione intorno
al Sole in 687 giorni) pertanto, in un passato non tanto lontano, era un
pianeta ricco di oceani, laghi e fiumi; ma che, a causa di un mancato anello
evolutivo della sua atmosfera, l'acqua è evaporata e si è retratta nel

sottosuolo, lasciando “a secco” il bacino dei mari, il bacino dei laghi ed il letto
dei fiumi.
Spingendoci più in la, tra le lune di Giove (Europa, Io, Callisto e Ganimede,
scoperte da G. Galilei il 7 Gennaio 1610) la sonda Vojager, lanciata il 5
Settembre 1977, invio le suggestive immagini di Europa, che raffiguravano la
superficie completamente pianeggiante, priva di crateri da impatto e
corrugamenti montuosi; dove si presume un enorme oceano privo di terre
emerse con forme di vita nei fondali. Dunque, una enorme palla di acqua
ghiacciata, con probabile esistenza di vita al di sotto del ghiaccio, che
soltanto perferondone la superficie spessa circa 30 Km e con l'uso di geofoni
si potrà stabilirne la presenza (missione Juno).
Parliamo adesso di Saturno e delle sue lune, in quanto, anche qui, è stata
trovata presenza di acqua. Quando la missione Cassini-Huygens, lanciata il 15
Ottobre 1977, raggiunse Saturno, dopo aver visitato il pianeta ed i suoi anelli
(gli anelli di Saturno sono formati da polvere protostellare e piccoli oggetti
di varie grandezze che orbitano all'equatore del pianeta, ma inclinati a
causa dell'inclinazione dell'asse di rotazione di Saturno) visitò anche il
sistema delle sue lune; tra cui Titano e Encelado.
Il 25 Dicembre 2004, la sonda sganciò il lander Huygens che si posò su Titano,
rivelando mari, laghi e fiumi ricchi di Metano CH4 ed Etano C2H6; quindi un
sistema meteorologico con precipitazioni non di acqua, ma di Metano ed
Etano. Mentra la sonda Cassini proseguì la sua orbita per visitare un'altra luna
di Saturno: Encelado.
Scoperto il 28 Agosto 1789 dall'astronomo William Herschel, Encelado
apparve alla sonda Cassini con una superficie ricca di acqua e con l'emissione
di acqua calda e vapore (Geyser) al Polo Sud. Gli enormi pennacchi che

fuoriescono dal suolo e le calde sorgenti di acqua di Encelado denotano un
situazione geologicamente attiva e una enorme quantità di acqua presente nel
sottosuolo. La conferma della presenza di maser d'acqua sul sistema
planetario di Satruno è avvenuta il 5 Febbraio 2009 dai ricercarori del
radiotelescopio “Croce del Nord” di Medicina, dopo ore di osservazione in
banda radio. Siamo giunti ai confini del nostri Sistema Solare, oltre la Fascia
di Kuiper, dove staziona la Nube di Oort, distante dal Sole circa 100.mila
Unità Astronomiche (l'Unità Astronomica, U.A., è l'unità di misura campione
di circa 150.milioni di Km. pari alla distanza Terra-Sole). Una enorme nube
composta di ghiaccio d'acqua e polvere stellare.
E' qui che nascono le Comete, planetoidi composti di ghiaccio e polvere di
stelle, catturate dalle enormi forze mareali del Sole, che viaggiano per milioni
di Km verso il campo magnetico solare. Spettacolare oggetto celeste da
osservare anche a occhio nudo, ogni anno la Cometa fa da corredo all'albero
di natale e alla grotta della natività del presepe, rappresentata con un nucleo
a forma di stella e con una coda di rondine. Ed in effetti, a causa della
sublimazione del ghiaccio dovuto al calore del Sole ed al rilascio della polvere
protostellare che compone il nucleo cometario, si formano due code: una di
acqua ed una di polvere. A conclusione, poiché come già accennato in
precedenza, l'Acqua è presente in tutto l'Universo; e, quindi, anche su altri
pianeti (Exoplanets) di altre Galassie, con tutta probabilità potrebbe scorrere
zampillante su altri mondi, generando altre forme di vita.
Prima di salutarci, certo di fare cosa gradita, segnalo le date del passaggio
ravvicinato di due Comete, visibili anche ad occhio nudo, che allieteranno
le serate del 2013: la Cometa “C 2011 L4 PANSTARRS” che si renderà
visibile il 10 Marzo 2013 con una luminosità pari ad una stella di prima
grandezza; ed il 28 Novembre 2013 la Cometa “C 2012 S1 ISON”. L'Acqua,

"La vita su Marte è possibile":
microrganismi adatti nei ghiacci Siberiani
I ricercatori hanno identificato sei specie sopravvissute alla simulazione di
ambiente marziano. Possono vivere a temperature vicine a 0 gradi e resistere
a pressioni atmosferiche bassissime. Una scoperta che apre scenari
importanti.
MARTE è in Siberia. Nei ghiacci eterni della zona esistono condizioni ambientali
riconducibili a quelle del pianeta rosso. Ed è là che sono stati individuati
microrganismi capaci di resistere anche ai climi estremi come quelli di Marte. Un
gruppo di ricercatori internazionale, coordinato dall'Università della Florida, ha
identificato e descritto su Pnas, la rivista dell'Accademia delle Scienze degli Stati
Uniti, alcune specie di batteri in grado di vivere in condizioni estreme di temperatura,
pressione e assenza di ossigeno. Proprio come quelle esistenti su Marte.
Prelevando quattro campioni di terreno provenienti dal permafrost siberiano, i
ricercatori sono riusciti a isolare alcuni dei microrganismi presenti e li hanno
sottoposti poi a una grande varietà di 'prove di resistenza'. Sei di queste specie sono
sopravvissute anche alla 'simulazione' di ambiente marziano. Si tratta di
microrganismi appartenenti al genere dei Carnobatteri, capaci di vivere a temperature
vicine a 0 gradi e resistere a pressioni atmosferiche bassissime (meno di un
centesimo di quella terrestre) e in un ambiente ricco di anidride carbonica e senza
ossigeno.
La capacità di questi microrganismi terrestri che potrebbero essere in grado di vivere

sulla superficie marziana è di grande importanza per la ricerca di vita extraterrestre e
anche per capire come evitare di contaminare il pianeta rosso con sonde terrestri non
perfettamente sterilizzate.

Sabato 12 gennaio, si è svolta, presso la sede di Villa Beer ad ANCONA, l'assemblea
annuale dei soci del Conero Radio Team, Ancona.
Dopo il saluto del Presidente e oltre ad aver approvato il bilancio, e fatto un breve
riassunto delle attività svolte durante l'anno 2012 e le iniziative per il 2013, si è
proceduto al rinnovo triennale delle cariche sociali.
E' stato confermato presidente del gruppo radiantistico scientifico Giancarlo
Marescia, iw6atq; vice presidente Gabriele Di Natale, iw6dly; segretario Daniele
Santinelli, iz6ppu; consigliere Massimiliano Biagioli, swl, consigliere e referente
scientifica Daniela Gambella, swl, revisore dei conti e probiviro Roberto Lorenzini,
iz6wlf e la signora Ester Guidi, probiviro.

dell'anno 2013, infatti attorno il 28 novembre la cometa raggiungerà il punto piu vicino
alla Terra e se tutto va come suggeriscono gli esperti, sarà visibile ad occhio nudo e
sarà grande come la Luna piena. Il Conero Radio Team ha aperto un semplice blog
dove inserire tutto quello che riguarda questo speciale evento.

Da quest'anno per il nuovo Diploma IIA c'è la possibilità di farne a meno in
quanto vi è l'obbligo per gli attivatori della trasmissione del log.
In questo modo è possibile verificare la presenza del QSO, e quindi solo per le
attivazioni dal 1/1/2013 in poi la QSL NON è più richiesta, eccezione fatta per gli SWL
naturalmente.
Rimane invece l'obbligo della QSL per chi vuole farsi accreditare QSO con
referenze IIA effettuati fino al 31/12/ 2012.

Anche il 2012 si è concluso; non poteva mancare però un'ultima attivazione
per allietare gli appassionati del D.C.I. durante le feste natalizie.
Insieme a Gianni I1YHU abbiamo attivato sabato 29 Dicembre la nuova
referenza: DCI-IM189 Torre Guglielmi a Ventimiglia.
Questa torre è rimasta sostanzialmente integra per 500 anni; venne costruita
infatti agli inizi del XVI secolo dagli Agostiniani per offrire riparo ai contadini,
che lavoravano le loro terre, dalle incursioni dei pirati.

Mi sono trovato in difficoltà per sistemare sia l'automobile che l'antenna a
causa degli spazi limitati disponibili. Ho dovuto optare per una antenna
magnetica che, unita alla posizione infelice della torre proprio sotto una
ripida collina, ha sicuramente costretto chi mi ha collegato ad "allungare" le
oreccchie. La parte del leone l'hanno fatta gli OM italiani in 40m; pochi i qso
in 20m.
Spero di "uscire " in modo più efficiente dalla prossima nuova referenza.

The last operation has been on the 29th of December to enjoy the castle fans during Christmas
holidays.
Together with Gianni I1YHU we worked from the new reference : DCI-IM189 Torre Guglielmi a
Ventimiglia.
This tower remained integer after almost 500 years; it has been built early in XVI century by
Agostiniani to protect their farm worker
from pirate raids .
Location was quite poor due to limited space ; I was obliged to mount a magnetic antenna on the
roof of my car.
Most of qso were in 40m with italian OM , very few in 20m.
I hope to be more efficient from the next operation. Have a prosperous 2013.

AREA 51
L'Area 51, inizialmente chiamata "Nevada Test Site - 51" e successivamente
ribattezzata con il nome attuale, consiste in una vasta zona militare operativa di
26.000 km2, situata vicino al villaggio di Rachel a circa 150 km a nord-ovest di Las
Vegas, nel sud dello stato statunitense del Nevada. Nonostante sia situata nella vasta
regione appartenente alla Nellis Air Force Base, le strutture nei pressi del Groom Lake

sembrano essere gestite come se fossero un distaccamento dell'Air Force Flight Test
Center della base aerea di Edwards nel Deserto del Mojave e, come tale, la base è nota
con il nome di Air Force Flight Test Center (Detachment 3).
Le strutture della base sono anche note come "Dreamland", "Paradise Ranch",,
"Home Base", "Watertown Strip", "Groom Lake" e più recentemente "Homey Airport".
Spesso i piloti militari chiamano lo spazio aereo attorno alla base come "The Box" (la
scatola).
Gli elevati livelli di segretezza che circondano la base e il fatto che la sua esistenza sia
solo vagamente ammessa dal governo statunitense, ha reso questa base un tipico
soggetto delle teorie del complotto e protagonista del folklore ufologico.
Nel corso del 2009 diversi ex-funzionari che hanno lavorato nell'Area 51 sono stati
autorizzati a rilasciare dichiarazioni, affermando che l'Area serviva per lo sviluppo e il
test di apparecchiature tecnologicamente all'avanguardia (jet militari, moduli lunari,
ecc.) nella massima segretezza.
L'Area 51 confina con la regione Yucca Flat del Nevada Test Site (NTS), un sito di test
dove sono stati condotti 739 dei 928 test nucleari da parte del dipartimento
dell'energia statunitense Il deposito nucleare di Yucca Mountain dista circa 64 km
sudovest del Groom Lake.
Il nome di "Area 51" è controverso e appare in vecchie mappe dell'NTS ma non in
quelle più recenti. Tuttavia lo stesso schema di nomenclatura appare per altre zone
del Nevada Test Site.
L'area è connessa con la rete stradale interna dell'NTS, che comprende strade
asfaltate che si dirigono a sud verso Mercury e ad ovest verso Yucca Flat. A nordest
del lago, la strada attraversa un passo nelle Jumbled Hills. La strada portava
precedentemente alle miniere del bacino Groom, ma dopo la loro chiusura, la strada è
stata ampliata. Nonostante sia presente un checkpoint di sicurezza l'accesso alla
strada è vietato alle persone non autorizzate più a est. Dopo essere uscita dall'area
ristretta, la strada prosegue scendendo verso est verso il fondo della Valle Tikaboo e
converge con la State Route 375 (la "Extraterrestrial Highway") a sud di Rachel.
L'ingresso principale verso l'intera base militare e, quindi, anche l'area 51 è segnato
da una strada sterrata che si stacca dalla statale 375, chiamata The Extraterrestrial
Highway, all'altezza di una grande cassetta per la posta di colore bianco con scritte
nere (punto di riferimento per tutti i curiosi di avvistamenti UFO) che poi interseca la
pista che conduce da est al Groom Lake. La base è ancora in attività.
Operazioni
La base aerea di Groom Lake non è una base convenzionale e sembra utilizzata per lo
sviluppo, il test e le fasi di addestramento di nuovi aerei. Quando questi velivoli
vengono approvati dall'United States Air Force o da altre agenzie come la CIA, le loro
operazioni vengono generalmente condotte da una normale base aerea militare.
Tuttavia, è stato riferito che la base sia l'alloggiamento permanente di un piccolo
numero di aerei sovietici, che vengono analizzati ed utilizzati per gli addestramenti.

I satelliti spia sovietici hanno ripreso immagini della base durante la Guerra Fredda, e
successivamente anche satelliti ad uso civile hanno ottenuto immagini dettagliate
della base e dell'ambiente circostante. Queste immagini permettono di fare poche
conclusioni sulla base, poiché ritraggono solo una base, delle lunghe piste, gli hangar
e il lago. Non consentono di provare nulla sulle strutture sotterranee.
Anche se non è contrassegnata con un identificativo ICAO, nel dicembre 2007 i piloti
di aerei notarono che la base appariva nei loro sistemi di navigazione con il codice
"KXTA".
Programma U-2
La base di Groom Lake venne utilizzata come zona per test dell'artiglieria e per test di
bombardamento durante la Seconda guerra mondiale, ma venne abbandonata fino al
1955, quando venne selezionata dal team Skunk Works della Lockheed Corporation
come luogo ideale per effettuare i test dell'aereo spia U-2. Il fondo asciutto del lago la
rendeva un posto ideale per utilizzare il prototipo, e il sito era protetto da occhi
indiscreti dalle montagne della Emigrant Valley e dal perimetro della NTS.
La Lockheed costruì la base, inizialmente costituita da poco più di qualche riparo,
laboratori e abitazioni per il team di progettisti. Il primo equipaggio giunse nella base
nell'agosto 1955 e gli U-2, gestiti dalla CIA iniziarono i sorvoli del territorio sovietico a
metà del 1956.
Durante quel periodo, continuarono ad effettuare una serie di esplosioni nucleari
atmosferiche. Le operazioni degli U-2 nel 1957 vennero frequentemente interrotte
dall'Operazione Plumbbob, una serie di test di ordigni. Un'esplosione di test, compiuta
il 5 luglio, costrinse il personale all'evacuazione a causa del fallout.
Programmi OXCART e Blackbird
Nonostante lo sviluppo dell'U-2 fosse incompleto, la Lockheed iniziò lo sviluppo del
successore, il progetto OXCART della CIA. Esso prevedeva la progettazione di un
aereo da ricognizione da alta quota e in grado di raggiungere velocità di Mach 3. Tra
gli sviluppi di questo progetto nacque il famoso SR-71 Blackbird. Le caratteristiche
dell'SR-71 e le richieste del progetto resero necessaria una notevole espansione delle
strutture e delle piste. Quando il primo prototipo A-12 Blackbird effettuò un volo nel
1962, la pista era stata allungata fino a 2600 m e il personale raggiungeva le 1000
unità. La base possedeva strutture per il rifornimento, una torre di controllo e un
campo di baseball. La sicurezza venne notevolmente incrementata, la piccola miniera
nel bacino del lago venne chiusa e l'area circostante la valle venne ristretta.
Nella base vennero compiuti i primi voli di tutte le principali varianti del progetto: A-12
OXCART, SR-71 Blackbird, l'intercettore Lockheed YF-12 e la versione per il trasporto
del drone da ricognizione D-21 (Lockheed D-21/M-21). L'A-12 rimase nella base di
Groom lake fino al 1968.
Programma Have Blue/F-117
Il prototipo di aereo stealth Lockheed Have Blue (un predecessore più piccolo dell'F117) volò per la prima volta nel dicembre 1977[12]. I test di una serie di prototipi segreti

continuarono fino a metà del 1981, quando iniziò la produzione dell'F-117 Nighthawk.
Oltre a questi test di volo, nella base vennero effettuati esperimenti con il radar, i test
dei sistemi d'arma dell'F-117 e l'addestramento degli equipaggi. Successivamente, le
operazioni del Nighthawk vennero spostate nella vicina base Tonopah Test Range ed
infine nella Holloman Air Force Base.
Operazioni successive
Dall'entrata in attività dell'F-117 nel 1983, le operazioni nella base di Groom Lake sono
continuate. La base e il sistema di piste sono state ulteriormente espanse e alcuni
commentatori, dopo aver esaminato le recenti fotografie satellitari, stimano in oltre
1000 unità gli effettivi che abitano nella base. Nel 1995 il governo federale espanse
l'area riservata attorno alla base per restringere l'accesso ad alcune montagne
circostanti da dove si poteva osservare la base. Successivamente, dunque, l'area può
essere limitatamente osservata solo dalla sommità di alcune montagne molto più
distanti e situate a est.
Programma "Aurora"
Si ritiene che Aurora sia un aereo spia, successore del Blackbird, con capacità
"stealth", velocità superiori a Mach 6, con capacità di compiere il giro attorno alla
Terra in 3-4 ore grazie ai suoi serbatoi riempiti con metano liquido alla temperatura
dell'azoto liquido. Alcuni studiosi, come Nick Pope, sostengono che abbia un tipo
particolare di pulsoreattore e che inoltre si avvalga di dispositivi anti-gravità di tipo
elettromagnetico.
Attività
EG&G, il contractor del Ministero della Difesa (assorbito nel 2002 da URS Corporation)
mantiene un terminal privato

all'Aeroporto internazionale McCarran a Las Vegas. Molti aerei senza identificativo
forniscono un servizio navetta giornaliero da McCarran ai siti operati dall'EG&G in
vaste regioni controllate dal governo federale nel Nevada meridionale. Questi aerei
utilizzano l'identificativo radio "JANET" (ad es. "JANET 6") (attualmente utilizzano
anche l'identificativo radio "Bland", con numero di volo "WWW"), che è stato
ipotizzato sia l'acronimo per "Joint Air Network for Employee Transportation". EG&G
ha comprato annunci nella stampa di Las Vegas cercando piloti militari con
esperienza, richiedendo che i candidati abbiano i requisiti per ottenere autorizzazioni
di sicurezza governative e che, una volta assunti, dovranno soggiornare a Las Vegas.
Questi aerei includono sei Boeing 737/Boeing T-43 e diversi piccoli velivoli. I numeri
identificati sono registrati sotto la USAF ed è stato riportato che volerebbero verso
Groom Lake, Tonopah Test Range e in altre località della base Nellis e del NTS. Alcuni
osservatori, che hanno tracciato il numero delle partenze e il numero di automobili
presenti nei parcheggi privati della EG&G stimano che esistono diverse migliaia di
pendolari ogni giorno. Questi voli navetta erano precedentemente effettuati dalla Key
Air.
Piste
La base aerea, con identificativo ICAO KXTA, ed elencata come "Homey Airport" nei
database dell'aviazione, ha diverse piste di decollo ed atterraggio. Una di esse, la più

lunga di tutte, con orientamento 14R/32L, appare chiusa; misura circa 7093 m. Le altre
comprendono due piste in asfalto, una con orientamento 14L/32R e lunga 3658 m e la
seconda con orientamento 12/30 con una lunghezza di 1652 m. Sono presenti anche
quattro piste situate nel bacino salato del lago, con orientamento 09L/27R, 09R/27L,
03L/21R e 03R/21L. Le prime due di lunghezza pari a circa 3489 m e le ultime di 3057
m.
Posizione del governo statunitense sull'Area 51
Il 14 luglio 2003 il governo degli Stati Uniti ha ammesso l'esistenza della base,
ammettendo tacitamente che l'aeronautica militare ha una "località operativa" nei

che attraversa il lago e vari hangar di contenimento, caserme, uffici. Alcuni ritengono
che questa sia soltanto la punta di un iceberg e che la base si estenderebbe nel
sottosuolo, 90 piani sotto terra dove il livello di segretezza e protezione aumenterebbe
con l'aumentare della profondità. La maggior parte ritiene che nel sottosuolo si
trovino soltanto ulteriori ricoveri per aeromobili segreti, specialmente per quelli

Nata il 15 gennaio 2001 dalle ceneri di Nupedia (un progetto avviato l'anno precedente
e oggi scomparso), Wikipedia portò avanti in modo del tutto completo il concetto di
conoscenza ridistribuita, grazie ad alcuni concetti di base riassunti in un codice di
comportamento particolarmente semplice e stringato, stabiliti fin dall'inizio dai suoi
fondatori.
Wikipedia, il cui nome va a letto con l'accento tonico sull'ultima "i" e non, come
comunemente si fa, usando l'accentazione sdrucciola (d'altro canto nessuno si
sognerebbe di dire "enciclopèdia") deriva dalla composizione di due parole: "wiki",
vocabolo di origine hawaiana che vuol dire "veloce", e dal suffisso "pedìa", dall'ovvio
significato.
Pubblicata in 285 lingue diverse, l'enciclopedia si basa sul principio fondamentale
della libera contribuzione, fondamento questo che rappresenta contemporaneamente
il suo punto di forza e di debolezza.
Da una parte l'adozione di questo principio ha portato a uno sviluppo esponenziale
delle voci presenti e a un arricchimento di quelle esistenti: all'inizio di quest'anno il
numero delle voci ha raggiunto il traguardo dei 13 milioni; una curiosità: al momento
del lancio ne conteneva circa 20.000. Ma questa tecnica offre il fianco a errori e, nei
casi più gravi, a vandalismo.
Il principio che regola l'inserimento e l'utilizzazione delle voci è quello della
condivisione libera; ognuno può adoperare a suo piacimento e gratuitamente il
materiale presente con il solo vincolo del rispetto del diritto d'autore.

La mancanza di qualsivoglia controllo che non sia quello reciproco da parte degli
utenti ha creato, almeno all'inizio, una sorta di arena di confronto su contenuti
controversi.
Nel tempo Wikipedia si è attirata le critiche di redattori di circoli accademici e di
enciclopedie tradizionali, prima tra tutti l'Enciclopedia Britannica, nemica giurata del
sistema, che ne ha denunciato la mancanza di attendibilità (si calcola che almeno un
voce su otto contenga errori o imprecisioni).
A fronte di tali critiche si sono levate spesso voci altrettanto autorevoli a difesa,
sostenendo, spesso non a torto, che tale atteggiamento rappresenti un tentativo di
difesa elitario delle conoscenze: James Harlington del MIT ha parlato, senza mezzi
termini, di protezionismo dei propri "orticelli" da parte di esperti e membri accademici.
Il colpo di grazia a questa impostazione elitaria è stato dato dalla rivista Nature che,
nel 2005, pur ammettendo la presenza di inesattezze, comparava, come qualità delle
informazioni, quelle presenti su Wikipedia proprio all'Enciclopedia Britannica,
riferendo che anche in quest'ultima esiste una percentuale di inesattezze di oltre il
30%.
Nel tempo Wikipedia ha pubblicato periodicamente sulle sue pagine appelli per
raccogliere fondi onde garantire la continuità del servizio.
Tra le curiosità, ricordiamo un'edizione in latino, e, successivamente, in idiomi
romanzi, primo tra tutti il sardo, seguito da altri dialetti.

L’osservazione dello stato dei telomeri, secondo un’azienda britannica, può
permettere di stabilire lo stato d’invecchiamento di una persona, le possibili
predisposizioni allo sviluppo di malattie e perfino quanto resterebbe da vivere.
Un’azienda spagnola afferma di aver prodotto un test del sangue che permette di
valutare quanto realmente si è invecchiati e a che punto si è.
Il test è condotto analizzando lo stato dei telomeri, le estremità dei cromosomi che si
accorciano con il passare del tempo. Queste strutture s’incaricano di preservare il
decadimento dei cromosomi, ma si accorciano a mano a mano che le cellule si
dividono nel tempo. Accade così che la lunghezza di questi telomeri può indicare
quanta divisione cellulare è già avvenuta e, come una sorta di conto alla rovescia,
indicare quanto tempo ancora rimane prima che si siano consumati del tutto e, infine,
quanto i teoria rimane ancora da vivere.
L’azienda produttrice del test ha già avviato le sperimentazione. Nel solo Regno Unito,
riporta l’Indipendent, ha già coinvolto oltre 100 cittadini britannici, ma conta di testare

Secondo i produttori questo test potrebbe essere utilizzato allo stesso modo della

In un Grande Magazzino gli affari vanno maluccio e allora il Direttore decide
di assumere un nuovo venditore molto in gamba. All'inserzione risponde un
giovanotto che si spaccia per il miglior venditore del mondo e allora il
Direttore gli dice: "Allora, prima di assumerla mi dimostri la sua abilita'. Vede
quel signore al reparto profumeria? E' tutto suo". Il giovanotto si avvicina al
cliente e comincia a parlare fitto fitto. Poi impacchetta una canna da pesca,
un paio di stivali, un cappotto con cappuccio, poi cambia reparto... e vende un
canotto, un motore fuoribordo e un carrello da traino per la macchina. Infine
s'inchina e saluta il cliente. Il Direttore: "Fantastico! Meraviglioso! Ma come
ha fatto? Cosa ha chiesto a quel signore?". "Niente, voleva una confezione di
assorbenti...". "Assorbenti? Ma come ha fatto a vendere tutto quella merce?".
"Semplice! Gli ho detto... se sua moglie è indisposta, che cavolo ci sta a fare in
casa? Perche' non va a pescare!
