The Four D’s
• No drinking of alcoholic beverages, including attending
parties where alcoholic beverages are served by or to persons
under 21 years of age even if I am not drinking.
• No drugs, including being in the presence of others that may
possess or partake of drugs.
• No driving including cars, motorcycles, boats or other
motorized vehicles.
• No serious one on one dating. Group dates are encouraged
but exclusive dating is prohibited.

I will …
• I will obey all of the laws of Italy. I understand that any
violation of these laws may result in arrest and/or
termination of my exchange.
• I will immediately remove myself from any situation that
involves drugs, alcohol or other illegal activities.
• I will always conduct myself as a representative of Rotary and
my country.
• I will use the internet and
available computers only
for activities that are appropriate,
legal and wholesome.

I will …
• I will only travel with adult supervision and Rotary
permission.
• I understand that I may not have family visitors without
Rotary permission and I may not have friends visit from my
country at anytime during my exchange.
• I will attend school regularly and do my best to complete all
assigned work.
• I will advise my District Chairperson or Inbound Coordinator
of any situation that I feel is inappropriate or that puts me in
any danger.

Relationship with the school
• Regular school attendance is a must and
good performance is expected.
• Consider that the Italian school system is
more rigid and demanding than in other
countries.

• The student must attend school regularly
and make an honest attempt to succeed.
• Dress codes.
• Academic honesty.
• Expectation of active participation.
• Reinventing yourself: choosing activities.

• Obey the Laws of the Host Country
• Learn the language of your host country. The
effort will be appreciated by teachers, host
parents, Rotary
club members and
others you meet in
the community.

• The relationship with your hosting club is important;
make sure you accept all invitations to participate
with them
• Getting to know members
• Showing appreciation
• Stay in contact with your counselor
and let them know how you are
doing on a regular basis

• The host family you will be living with has
been instructed to treat you like their
daughter or their son
• Discuss with your family what they expect
of you and what you should expect from
them
• Become an integral
part of the Host Family

• Do get involved in school and extracurricular
activities
• Do spend time with host family and
participate in their activities
• Do let your club/counselor know what you
would love to see and do
• Don’t stay continuosly in your room
• Don’t stay continuosly on the computer
• Don’t call home more than 1x/week

Family visits
• Before organizing family visits or purchasing
tickets students must get permission from
their hosting family AND the hosting Rotary
Club AND the hosting District
• Family Visits are not permitted prior to
March
• Visits by friends and relatives other than
immediate relatives are prohibited

Travel While On Exchange
• Students may participate in travel organized
by their host family, the school they attend,
the Rotary Club or the District
• Students may not travel alone or
accompanied only by other students
• Students may ride to
school using public
transportations in the
area of the host

• Can my friend from home visit me?
• I live in Cremona: can I take the bus to
Milano with my friends?
• Can I go to India with my host family?
• Can I visit my aunt who lives in Roma for
Christmas?

Student Exchange Objectives
• Find out something new about their own culture and
point of view by seeing it from a fresh perspective.
• Gain a real understanding of another culture and build
lasting friendships
• Learn a new language by total immersion
• Improve their self image and confidence
• Manage new situations solo and
learn to live within other frameworks
• Fulfill Rotary Young Ambassador
