demand but also market supply, in other words, an analysis which is also from
the point of view of those who show, produce, make and circulate films.
The Report sheds light on the various companies within the sector and, for the
first time, is presented with two previously unpublished appendixes. The first
concerns the operation and role carried out by the Italian Film Commission in all
of Italy; the second traces the history of Cinecittà up until its merger with the
'Istituto Luce'.
On the occasion of the presentation of the Report, following the opening
greetings by the Dean of Political Science at LUISS Guido Carli University,
Sebastiano Maffettone, there will be contributions by the President of the
Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo, Dario E. Viganò; the Director General for
Cinema of Mibac, Nicola Borrelli; the D.A. of Cinecittà Luce, Luciano Sovena;
the film critic from Corriere della Sera, Paolo Mereghetti; the Director of the
LUISS Writing School, Roberto Coltroneo; the Director of the "Massimo Baldini"
Centre for Media and Communication Studies, LUISS Guido Carli University,
Michele Sorice, and the scientific curator of the Report, Redento Mori.
"The 2009 Report on 'The Market and the Cinema Industry in Italy'" - explained
Dario E.Viganò - "is the natural continuation of the previous Report which, for
the first time in Italy, provided an overall picture of this essential sector of the
economy.
The overall consensus obtained by the previous edition last year has resulted in
promoting further research and analysis with the integration of new data which
enriches this work which was developed by the Fondazione Ente dello
Spettacolo in collaboration with Cinecittà Luce S.p.a.
An essential aspect of this second edition is, indeed, the research into a better
definition of the personnel and economic assets of the various components
within Italian cinematography".
