Fabio Banchio was awarded a Master’s degree in History of Modern and Contemporary Music from the Facoltà di
Lettere e Filosofia dell’Università degli Studi di Torino. He then gained his Diploma (a doctor of Musical Arts level)
at the Conservatorio “Giuseppe Verdi” in Turin in Piano, Composition and Wind Orchestra Instrumentation.
His degree thesis was entitled The Piano Inheritance of Niccolò Paganini, which became part of the prestigious Indiana
University Libraries.
A pupil of Irene Rista (1986-1993), Felice Quaranta (1985-87), Riccardo Piacentini (1993-2001) and Sandro Satanassi
(2004-5), Banchio has also attended courses and seminars with Franco Oppo (CRIM, 1996), Riccardo Piacentini
(Vasto International Music Seminar, 1997), Lorenzo Della Fonte and Eugene Migliaro Corporon (Cremona, 2002-3)
and Y. M. Kinoshita (Mondovì, 2010).
During the Italian premier of Riccardo Piacentini’s spiritual drama Mal’akhim, in 1998 Banchio worked with the
Rive-Gauche Concerti, the Teatro Regio in Turin and RAI-Radio 3.
From 2000 to 2003 he conducted the Banda ANA of Pinerolo (Turin), participating, amongst other things, in the
National Alpini Meetings in Brescia, Genoa, Catania and Aosta.
In 2002, in association with Elisabetta Giai (violin), he set up the “Antonio Vivaldi” Duo, that performed in historical
locations such as the Castello di Mercenasco, Villa Bodo, Villa Sassi, Villa Doria, Villa Somis and Villa Conforti…
As a pianist, he played in the musical Pinocchio, music by Pooh (a leading Italian rock band), produced by the
Musicanta Scuola d’Arte e Spettacolo and, on the occasion of the Turin Olympics, for the International Olympic
Committee and Mercedes-Benz.
As a composer, arranger and programmer, he has worked in association with well known dance music publishers
such as Galletti-Boston, Saar, Balla con Noi, DiscoTop, Sandrinita, Akumal and La Nuova Edizione.
As an arranger he oversaw the version for choir and concert band of the Olympic Anthem performed in Pinerolo
during the presentation of the Turin Olympics in 2006; the instrumental version – with solo trumpet by Emilio
Soana – of the international hit Sierra Madre; music for several scenes of Carlo Mazzacurati’s film La giusta distanza;
and various elaborations of the vocal sextet Sei Sottochiave (which recently appeared in the Italian television program
X Factor) and the Coro Bric Boucie del Terzo Reggimento Alpini of Pinerolo. At the invitation of the City of
Carignano (Turin) in 2009, he instrumented and conducted the version for concert band of the Fanfara e Marcia Reale
di Ordinanza dell’Esercito Italiano by Gabetti to commemorate the 160th Anniversary of the death of King Charles
Albert of Savoy.
In 2008, together with maestro Guido Neri (viola) he set up the “Non solo Classica” Duo, which has become the
Official Duo of the Associazione Piemontesi nel Mondo. The duo has given recitals in Italy and abroad, performing
in Rome, among other things the presence of the Presidente del Governatorato dello Stato della Città del Vaticano
Em. Giuseppe Bertello and, at the invitation of the “Dante Alighieri”, the Universal Peace Federation and
Association “Caravaggio” in Stockholm and at the Akademiska Kapellet Musicum and Studieförbundet
Vuxenskoland of Uppsala (Sweden). In 2009, on the 20th Anniversary of the twinning of San Pietro Val Lemina
(Turin) with Cordoba, it received the Certificate of Merit, having been nominated by the Chairman of the
Associazione Piemontesi nel Mondo, Gr.Uff. Michele Colombino, for “documented promotional activity in favor of
Piedmont, its people, its traditions and its culture both in Italy and in the world”. In 2011, on the occasion of the
International motoring event Viva l’Auto, the duo has played at the National Automobile Museum of Turin, and the
crowning of the initiatives for the 150th Anniversary of the Unification of Italy at Palazzo Chiavarina of Rubiana
(Turin), the historical seat of Piedmontese culture and Famija Turinèisa.
He is co-director, along with maestro Elisabetta Giai, of the Piccoli Cantori padre Médaille choir of the primary school
of the “Maria Immacolata” Institute in Pinerolo. The choir has won the competition promoted by the AIMC
(Associazione Italiana Maestri Cattolici) and by the Centro Giovani Diocesano di Pinerolo, the Festival Voci in coro
organized by the City of Turin with the collaboration of ITER (Istituzione Torinese per una Educazione
Responsabile). The song A fairy of goodness (music by Fabio Banchio – lyrics by Mario Scrivano) won the 4th place in
the International Competition In unison for a dream... held in Busca (Cuneo) from 16 May to May 17, 2011.
He is author of the Piano Collection Il bianco e il nero (Eufonia music publishing house) and of the book The Foremost
Piedmontese Accordionist (Zanetti Records publishing house).
In 2012, on the occasion of the Festa del Piemonte, along with Simona Rodano, La Fata Italiana – The Italian Fairy,
the Italian culture and language ambassador, protagonist of the New York’s Columbus Day Parade in 2011-12 and
of the language program promoted by the Italian Embassy in Washington) – maestro Guido Neri and the Piccoli
Cantori padre Médaille choir of the primary school of the “Maria Immacolata” Institute in Pinerolo, he recorded the Il
valore della nostra gente nel mondo Dvd. It was presented in the States in 2013 for the Year of Italian Culture .
Since 2012, he has been Head of the Art and Culture Sector of the Associazione Piemontesi nel Mondo.
In 2013, on the invitation of the Consiglio Regionale del Piemonte and the Associazione Piemontesi nel Mondo, he
arranged the Official Anthem of the Piemontesi nel Mondo Noi soma piemontèis [We are Piedmontese] and the musical
pieces for The Foremost Piedmontese Accordionist Cd (Zanetti Records music publishing house).
Along with his work as a teacher, composer and arranger, he is conductor of the Filarmonica Candiolese “Antonio
Vivaldi”, with which he has performed at prestigious venues such as Pouilly sous Charlieu (France, 2008, European
Music Day) and, on the occasion of solemn celebrations for the 150th Anniversary of the Unification of Italy, the
Teatro Sociale of the historic Piedmont town of Pinerolo (Turin) and the Regional Command of the Guardia di
Finanza, Barracks Emanuele Filiberto Duca D'Aosta, Turin.
