Historical notes In the XII century its name was “Loretinum”, in the XV century “Ratino” or “Rateni” which became “Loratino” and finally Oratino. The feudal succession of Oratino was complex during the various periods and it is not characterized by the steady presence of one family, as happened in other villages. Eustachio d’Ardicourt (1268) was one of the first owners. Ardicourt probably lost Oratino through violence actions. During the reign of Carlo II D’Angiò, at the end of two hundred, Oratino has as a feudatory the so - called “Giovanni di Lando”. Then it was the turn of Pietro di Sus († 1326). In 1333 Oratino belonged to the State domain. In the XV century Oratino passed from D’Evoli to the Gambatesa Counts (until 1495). Between that year and 1507 it belonged to Capua, who sold it to the Rizzo barons from Naples, but subsequently came into an inheritance to Caracciolo. In the remaining part of the XVI century there were the Coscia patricians from Naples. Before 1586 Oratino belonged to the Spanish Di Silva, and become alienated (1630) to Ottavio Vitaliano, became Duke of Oratino in 1638. Antonio Vitaliano, IVth and last Duke of Oratino, sold it to Giordano, who was appointed Duke of Oratino. Francesco Longano (1729 - 1796), priest and philosopher, defined Oratino “wetnurse of painters, sculptors, musicians and joiners”. The economist and man of letters Giuseppe Maria Galanti (1743 - 1806) wrote, “The place where many arts of taste are cultivated.” Oratino actually had the fortune of the benefactors Duke Giordano, who gave impetus to the arts, a tradition that has lasted for centuries and even today Oratino is one of the centres where art is deeply felt and practiced, it is known as the home of stone-cutters and sculptors who left remarkable works outside their land. La Torre, a pianta quadrata, è alta 12 metri circa, e presenta l'usuale porta elevata rispetto al suolo. photo: d’anolfo Oratino is one of municipalities best preserved of the entire Molise region, so to gain the prestigious award “The most beautiful villages in Italy”. Places to visit and things to see Giordano Palace (Ducal Palace) was raised in the second half of the XV century. Some historians indicate its origin at the end of the seventeenth century, after a commission from feudal lords who gave their name to the palace. To witness its forteenth century origin, and its membership to the previous feudatories of Oratino, there is the memory of the moat and the presence of four corner towers, characterized by merlons, demolished by the Duke Giuseppe Giordano to modernize the building according to the eseventeenth century taste. In 1805 an earthquake destroyed the building: the north-eastern side was totally rebuilt. Above the main entrance there is a stone vault of the place “a cross vault”: the archivolt is decorated with carved acanthus leaves. The courtyard is surrounded by a portico. Church of Santa Maria di Loreto dated XVIII century, (formerly “extra moenia”). Two stoups leaning against pillars are decorated by Francesco Fagnani from Pescopennataro. Francesco Fagnani is also the creator of an altar with stucco, made in 1795, in the Church of Rosario. The Parish Church of Santa Maria Assunta has three naves, has signs of its ancient origin with a fresco of the Assumption of the Virgin by Ciriaco Bunetti (1791), two statues by Colombo and a semicircular painting by Amedeo Trivisonno (1947). The Tower is located on a rocky spur (near Oratino) called precisely "The Rock", and this is what remains from a castle and from an adjacent medieval village, collapsed during the earthquake of 1456. The Tower, with a squared plan, is 12 meters high and has the usual elevated door from the ground. photo: d’anolfo photo: d’anolfo Manifestazioni — Eventi “La Faglia”, si tratta di un'enorme fascio di canne lungo circa 12 metri con un diametro di oltre un metro che la vigilia di Natale viene trasportato a spalle da più di cinquanta oratinesi dall'ingresso del paese fino davanti il sagrato della chiesa di S.
