1. Product Overview

Each Philips Zoom! WhiteSpeed Whitening LED
Accelerator (Accelerator) has been thoroughly inspected
and tested at the factory. Upon arrival at your facility,
inspect the shipping container and the device for damage.
Any damage should be reported immediately to your
Discus Dental representative. In the case of a damaged
shipment, please save all packaging materials.

1.2 Intended Use
The Accelerator is a chairside teeth whitening light
designed to be used by dental professionals for use in
whitening discolored teeth. The Accelerator’s LED light
source has been designed to deliver the optimal spectrum
of light energy to activate Philips Zoom! Chairside LightActivated Whitening Gel to deliver 6-8 shades* of teeth
whitening. Wavelength emissions are between 400 to 505
nanometers(nm) and the energy intensity delivered to the
teeth can be set at three levels depending on patient and
case type. The Accelerator must be used at all times in
accordance with the terms and conditions of the Letter of
Agreement (LOA) provided and signed prior to delivery
of the Accelerator.

1.3 Safety Precautions
Do not attempt to use the Accelerator without a thorough
understanding of this manual, and the manual within the Philips
Zoom! Chairside Light-Activated Whitening Kit (“Kit”). Failure
to do so may result in injury to you or your patients, or damage
to the product. Only allow trained and qualified personnel to
operate the system.
Caution: EYE PROTECTION MUST BE USED during
operation to ensure the safety of everyone in the
treatment area. The intense light can pose hazards for
the eyes. Protective safety goggles or spectacles that
filter out wavelengths between 400-505 nm must be
worn while operating this device.
Caution: NEVER LOOK DIRECTLY INTO THE LIGHT.
Never direct the light output of the Accelerator in any
direction other than the area being treated. Before
activating the light, confirm the delivery head is properly
positioned and aimed at the treatment area.
Caution: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO GAIN ACCESS
TO THE INSIDE OF THE DEVICE. Service is limited
to authorized service representatives of Philips Discus
Dental. Any attempt to gain access to the internal
workings of the device by unauthorized personnel or
without proper authorization is prohibited, may result in
injury, and may void any warranty or service obligations
by Philips Discus Dental.
2. Philips Zoom! Chairside LightActivated Whitening Treatment
1.4 Accelerator Assembly (refer to images in front)
1. Remove all items from shipping carton.
2. Snap the casters into the feet of the Accelerator Base
and lock the casters.
3. Place the Accelerator Base upright on the oor. Insert
the Accelerator Stand into the Accelerator Base by
aligning the pin in the Accelerator Stand with the slot
in the Accelerator Base and pushing the Stand securely
into place.
4. Assemble the lock washer with the big teeth facing each
other and place it on the bolt, followed by the Fender
(large) washer. Reaching under the Accelerator Base,
screw the bolt into the bottom of the Base, securing it to
the Accelerator Stand.
5. To attach the Accelerator Head, loosen the knobs by
the socket at the end of the Accelerator Boom by 4-5
turns. Gently, but rmly, push the Accelerator Head into
the socket. It will be held securely in place by the socket
springs.
6. Place the Accelerator Boom onto the Accelerator Stand
by carefully aligning the hole in the Boom with the hole
in the yoke. Insert the screw into the hole and tighten.
Keep tightening the screw until it is completely in the
pocket. The screw should be ush or inset into the
pocket. The screw has glue on the threads (yellow in
color) that releases as the screw is tightened. Therefore it
is important to nish tightening the screw upon insertion
or the glue may stop the screw from being fully inserted.
7. Connect the electrical cord from the Accelerator
Boom to the cords from the Accelerator Stand and the
Accelerator Head. The Accelerator head connector must
be turned until you feel it lock into place.
8. When you are ready to test the Accelerator, activate the
unit by turning on the main power switch on the right
side of the Power Pack.
1.5 Set Up
Plug the Accelerator power cord protruding from the
Accelerator Base directly into a properly rated wall outlet.
The Accelerator is now ready for use with a Philips
Zoom! Chairside Light-Activated Whitening Kit. Please
refer to the Kit’s manual for further set up and get
application instructions.
2.1 Light Guide
The Light Guide is designed to ensure proper distance and
alignment to maintain correct light exposure on the smile
zone. Remove Light Guide from Philips Zoom! Chairside
Light-Activated Whitening Kit and place on end of Accelerator
Head. Turn on the Accelerator using power button located on
the side of the Power Pack. When the Light guide is properly
attached, the Power Pack display will read “Guide Status-Guide
Attached” followed by “X of X Sessions”. Each new Light
Guide is loaded with four 15-minute activation sessions.
2.2 Align Accelerator Head and Light Guide
to Retractor
Once whitening gel application is complete, raise back of
chair so patient is in a slightly reclined position (45 degree
angle) and able to swallow comfortably while maintaining light
pressure on bite block. Slide Accelerator into place next to
patient. Accelerator Boom should be movable, but stable.
To align the Accelerator Head:
1. Grasp the Accelerator Head with one hand and bring it
close to the patient’s mouth. Use your other hand to lift
or lower the Accelerator Boom as needed to make sure
Accelerator Head is aimed directly at the patient’s teeth.
2. Use both hands to nalize positioning of Accelerator Head
so that Light Guide and IsoPrep Retractor slots are aligned.
Tighten Accelerator Head and Accelerator Boom knobs (4).
Lock casters in position. While engaged, the Light Guide
and IsoPrep Retractor will allow the Accelerator Head to
follow minor movements of the patient’s head to ensure
proper alignment.
2.3 Running a Whitening Procedure Cycle
Each Philips Zoom! Chairside Light-Activated Whitening
Procedure consists of three 15-minute whitening sessions
with a pause between each session to allow the operator
to remove and replace the whitening gel. Each Light Guide
includes a fourth session for use on patients with shades A3
or darker.
1. Ensure the patient is properly prepared according to the
Kit manual with whitening gel and all protective barriers
in place.
2. Press the “Intensity” button to toggle through high, medium,
and low light intensity until the desired intensity is selected.
This setting can be changed at any time during the
whitening procedure.
3. Press the “Start” button to turn on light and activate
session timer.

4. Once light is on, a countdown will be displayed. The
Accelerator will beep once when 3 minutes are remaining
and beep three times in the nal 3 seconds of the
15 minute session. When time reaches zero, light will turn
off and a long beep will sound.
5. Point out to the patient that progress of each session will
be tracked by 4 white lights on top of the Accelerator
Head, each indicating one quarter of a session.
6. If a session must be interrupted, press the “Pause” button.
The remaining session time will blink on the display. To
reactivate the session, press either the “Pause” or “Start”
button. DO NOT PRESS THE “STOP” BUTTON AT
ANY TIME DURING THIS PROCESS OR AN ENTIRE
15-MINUTE SESSION WILL BE LOST.
7. At the end of each 15-minute session, the display will
indicate the number of remaining sessions left on the Light
Guide. Press “Start” to active the light for the next session.
8. When all sessions on a Light Guide are used, the display
will read “Sessions Complete” for three seconds, followed
by “Guide Status – Replace Guide”. Detach the Light
Guide from IsoPrep Retractor and pull Accelerator away
from patient.
Tip: Use High setting for maximum whitening, Low
setting for maximum heat and sensitivity
management. However, please note that lower light
intensity may reduce results.
Tip: After each session, make sure the patient’s lips and
gums are consistently and thoroughly covered to
help prevent any soft tissue exposure to the LED
lights and any whitening gel.
3. Care and Maintenance
The Accelerator should be cleaned and disinfected after each
whitening session. Do not spray or pour liquids directly onto
the machine. Apply cleaners to a soft cloth or paper towel
before using. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. The
following cleaners are recommended: Sanicloth, CaviWipes,
SciCan, Birex, BioSurf, Cidex and IPA. Follow your cleaning
products instructions for use to ensure proper cleaning of
the unit.
For optimum performance, ensure that the output window
on the Accelerator Head remains clean and free of particles
or streaks.
The Accelerator has no user-serviceable or user-replaceable
parts with the exception of two replaceable fuses that are
inside the Power Pack housing.
The Accelerator complies with relevant international and
national law and standards on EMC (electro-magnetic
compatibility) for this type of product when used as intended.
Such laws and standards de ne both the permissible
electromagnetic emission levels from product and its
required immunity to electromagnetic interference from
external sources.
Other electronic products exceeding the limits de ned in such
EMC standards could, under unusual circumstances, affect the
operation of the product.
• Medical electrical products need special precautions
regarding EMC, and need to be installed and put into service
according to EMC information provided in this manual.
• The use of accessories and cables other than those
speci ed may result in increased emission or decreased
immunity levels.
• The product should not be used adjacent to other products
and that if adjacent use is necessary, it should be observed
to verify normal operation.
• To avoid the risk of electrical shock, do not remove any
System panels.
• Refer servicing to quali ed personnel.
• Never operate the System with a damaged power cord.
Storage
The Accelerator Boom is designed to fold down to minimize
overall Accelerator footprint for convenient storage. To do so,
loosen Accelerator Boom knobs and fold Accelerator Boom
down and in towards the Accelerator Stand.
Disposal
Discus Dental is concerned about the preservation of the
environment. Please dispose of this product properly at the
end of its useful life according to local laws and regulations for
electronic equipment waste.

4. Fuse Replacement Instructions
(refer to images in front)
1. CAUTION: Unplug the Accelerator from
the outlet.
2. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screw at
the bottom of the Power Supply housing. Set the screw
aside for reassembly.
3. Remove the door from the housing.
4. Pull out the white power cord from its connection and
let it hang freely. (see gure 4.1)
5. Look for the fuse label near the upper, right-hand side
to identify the fuse location. (see gure 4.1)
6. Using a small, thin bladed, athead screwdriver, pry
open the right-hand side of the fuse door. Then pry out
the red fuse rack. (see gures 4.2-4.3)
7. Remove fuses from both sides of the red fuse rack – note
their location in the fuse rack. (see gures 4.4-4.5)
8. Snap in the new fuses at the top of the fuse rack, they
should be closer to the side with the tabs (top).
(see gures 4.4-4.5)
9. Reinsert the fuse rack into the fuse slot with the tabs rst.
Push the fuse rack in until it is securely in place. You will
not be able to close the fuse door if the fuse rack is not
inserted correctly.
10. Close the fuse door.
11. Reinsert the power cord rmly into the housing.
12. Reinsert the screw into the door and tighten with a
Phillips head screwdriver.

1.2 Uso previsto
L’acceleratore è una sorgente luminosa destinata
all’uso da parte di dentisti esperti nello sbiancamento
di denti scoloriti. La testina di emissione di luce a LED
dell’acceleratore è progettata per emettere lo spettro
ottimale di energia luminosa e innescare il gel sbiancante

1.3 Precauzioni di sicurezza

manuale contenuto nel Kit sbiancante per studio dentistico
Philips Zoom! attivato dalla luce (“Kit”). La mancata osservanza

1.4 Assemblaggio dell’acceleratore (fare riferimento
alle immagini sulla parte anteriore della confezione)
1. Rimuovere tutti gli articoli dall’imballaggio.
2. Inserire le rotelle nei piedini alla base dell’acceleratore
facendole scattare per bloccarle.
3. Collocare la base dell’acceleratore in posizione verticale sul
pavimento. Inserire il sostegno dell’acceleratore nella base
dell’apparecchio allineando il perno del sostegno con la
scanalatura nella base; spingere con decisione il sostegno al
suo posto.
4. Montare la rondella di sicurezza con i denti grandi rivolti uno
verso l’altro e collocarla sul bullone, seguita dalla rondella
Fender (grande). Da sotto la base dell’acceleratore, avvitare il
bullone sul fondo della base stessa, ssandolo al sostegno.
5. Per attaccare la testa dell’acceleratore, allentare le
manopole accanto alla sede all’estremità del braccio
dell’acceleratore facendole girare 4-5 volte. Spingere
delicatamente ma con decisione la testa dell’acceleratore
nella sede. La testa verrà tenuta ferma dalle molle
nella sede.
6. Collocare il braccio dell’acceleratore nel relativo
sostegno allineando attentamente il foro del braccio
con quello del perno. Inserire la vite nel foro e serrare.
Continuare a serrare la vite no a quando è inserita del
tutto nella cavità. La vite deve essere a raso o inserita
nella cavità. La lettatura della vite è ricoperta di colla
(di colore giallo) che viene rilasciata durante il serraggio
della vite. Quindi è importante nire di serrare la vite nel
momento del suo inserimento onde evitare che la colla
impedisca di completarlo.
7. Collegare il cavo di alimentazione dal braccio
dell’acceleratore ai cavi provenienti dal sostegno e dalla
testa dell’acceleratore. Girare il connettore della testa
dell’acceleratore no al completo bloccaggio.
8. Quando si è pronti a provare l’acceleratore, attivare
l’unità azionando l’interruttore principale sul lato destro
dell’alimentatore.
1.5 Preparazione
Inserire il cavo di alimentazione dell’acceleratore che
fuoriesce dalla base del dispositivo direttamente in una
presa a muro di tensione adeguata.
Ora l’acceleratore è pronto per l’uso con il kit sbiancante
per studio dentistico Philips Zoom! attivato dalla luce.
Consultare il manuale del kit per ottenere ulteriori
istruzioni riguardo alla preparazione e informazioni
sull’applicazione del dispositivo.
2. Philips Zoom! Trattamento
sbiancante attivato dalla luce per
studio dentistico
2.1 Guida ottica
La guida ottica è progettata per assicurare distanza e
allineamento idonei garantendo la corretta esposizione
alla luce della zona da sbiancare. Rimuovere la guida ottica
dal kit sbiancante per studio dentistico attivato dalla luce
e collocarla sull’estremità della testa dell’acceleratore.
Accendere l’acceleratore agendo sul pulsante di
alimentazione situato sul lato dell’alimentatore. Una volta
attaccata la guida, il display dell’alimentatore indicherà
“Guide Status – Guide Attached” (Stato guida - Guida
attaccata) seguito da “X of X Sessions” (X di X sedute). Ogni
nuova guida ottica ha un’autonomia di quattro sessioni di
15 minuti l’una.
2.2 Allineare la testa dell’acceleratore e la guida
ottica al retrattore
Una volta completata l’applicazione di gel sbiancante, sollevare
lo schienale della poltrona in modo che il paziente sia in
una posizione leggermente reclinata (a 45 gradi) e in grado
di inghiottire a proprio agio; mantenere la pressione sul
morso. Posizionare l’acceleratore vicino al paziente. Il braccio
dell’acceleratore deve essere spostabile, ma stabile.
Allineamento della testa dell’acceleratore:
1. Afferrare la testa dell’acceleratore con una mano e
avvicinarla alla bocca del paziente. Con l’altra mano alzare
o abbassare il braccio dell’acceleratore in modo tale che la
testa dell’acceleratore sia rivolta direttamente verso i denti
del paziente.
2. Con entrambe le mani posizionare la testa dell’acceleratore
in modo che la guida ottica e le scanalature del retrattore
IsoPrep siano allineate. Stringere le manopole della testa
e del braccio dell’acceleratore (4). Bloccare le rotelle in
posizione. Durante il funzionamento, la guida ottica e il
retrattore IsoPrep consentiranno alla testa dell’acceleratore
di seguire i lievi movimenti del capo del paziente
assicurandone l’adeguato allineamento.
2.3 Esecuzione di un ciclo di procedure sbiancanti
Ogni procedura di sbiancamento attivata dalla luce per studio
dentistico Philips Zoom! consiste in tre sedute sbiancanti
di 15 minuti l’una con una pausa tra una seduta e l’altra
per consentire all’operatore di rimuovere e sostituire il
gel sbiancante. Ogni guida ottica comprende una quarta
procedura per l’uso su pazienti con tonalità A3 o più scure.
1. Assicurarsi che al paziente sia stato somministrato il gel
sbiancante secondo quanto previsto nel manuale del kit e
che siano montate tutte le barriere protettive.
2. Premere il pulsante “Intensity” (Intensità) per scegliere le
intensità di luce alta, media o bassa e ottenere il grado
di intensità voluto. Questa impostazione può essere
cambiata in qualsiasi momento nel corso della procedura
di sbiancamento.
3. Premere il pulsante “Start” (Avvio) per accendere la luce e
attivare il timer per la seduta.

4. Una volta accesa la luce, verrà visualizzato il conteggio alla
rovescia. L’acceleratore emette un bip quando mancano tre
minuti alla ne della seduta e tre bip negli ultimi tre secondi
di ogni seduta di 15 minuti. Scaduto il tempo, la luce si
spegne e viene emesso un segnale acustico prolungato.
BioSurf, Cidex e IPA. Seguire le istruzioni sull’uso di prodotti
detergenti per assicurare l’adeguata pulizia dell’apparecchio.
Per ottenere le massime prestazioni, assicurarsi che la nestra
di emissione sulla testa dell’acceleratore sia sempre pulita e
priva di granelli o striature.
5. Far presente al paziente che il progresso di ogni seduta
sarà segnalato da 4 luci bianche visualizzate sulla
testa dell’acceleratore, ciascuna delle quali indicherà il
completamento di un quarto della seduta.
Nessuna delle parti dell’acceleratore può essere riparata o
sostituita dall’utente, fatta eccezione dei due fusibili sostituibili
all’interno della scatola dell’alimentatore.
6. Per interrompere una seduta premere il pulsante “Pause”
(Pausa). Il tempo restante della seduta lampeggerà sul
display. Per riprendere la sessione, premere il pulsante
“Pause” (Pausa) o “Start” (Avvio). NON PREMERE MAI IL
PULSANTE “STOP” DURANTE LA PROCEDURA O SI
PERDERÀ UN’INTERA SEDUTA DI 15 MINUTI.
L’acceleratore è conforme alle leggi nazionali e internazionali
vigenti e alle norme EMC (compatibilità elettromagnetica)
che interessano questo tipo di prodotto quando utilizzato
come previsto. Dette leggi e normative determinano sia i
livelli consentiti di emissione elettromagnetica del prodotto sia
l’immunità del prodotto alle interferenze elettromagnetiche
derivanti da fonti esterne.
7. Al termine di ogni seduta di 15 minuti, il display visualizzerà
il numero di sessioni restanti della guida luce. Premere
“Start” (Avvio) per attivare la luce per la seduta successiva.
Altri prodotti elettronici che superano i limiti previsti dalle
normative EMC sopra citate potrebbero, in circostanze
insolite, in uire sul funzionamento del prodotto.
8. Quando sono stati utilizzati tutti i trattamenti della
guida ottica, il display visualizza per tre secondi “Sessions
Complete” (Sedute completate), quindi “Guide Status –
Replace Guide” (Stato guida – Sostituire guida). Staccare
la guida ottica dal retrattore IsoPrep e allontanare
l’acceleratore dal paziente.
• I prodotti elettromedicali necessitano di precauzioni
speciali riguardo alla compatibilità elettromagnetica e la
loro installazione e utilizzo sono soggetti alle norme EMC
descritte in questo manuale.
Suggerimento: usare l’impostazione High (Alto) per il
massimo sbiancamento, Low (Basso) per
la massima gestione del calore e della
sensibilità. Tenere presente tuttavia che
una minore intensità di luce può dare
minori risultati.
Suggerimento: al termine di ogni seduta, veri care
che le labbra e le gengive del paziente
siano costantemente e completamente
coperte per prevenire un’eventuale
esposizione del tessuto morbido alle luci
LED e al gel sbiancante.
3. Cura e manutenzione
Si consiglia di pulire e disinfettare l’acceleratore dopo
ogni seduta sbiancante. Non spruzzare o versare liquidi
direttamente sull’apparecchio. Applicare detergente su un
panno sof ce o un asciugamano di carta prima dell’uso.
Non usare detergenti o solventi abrasivi. Si raccomandano
i seguenti detergenti: Sanicloth, CaviWipes, SciCan, Birex,
• L’uso di accessori e cavi diversi da quelli speci cati può dar
luogo a maggiori livelli di emissione o minore immunità.
• Il prodotto non deve essere usato in prossimità di altri
prodotti; se ciò risulta necessario, si raccomanda di
osservarlo per veri carne l’adeguato funzionamento.
• Per evitare il rischio di scossa elettrica, non rimuovere i
pannelli del sistema.
• Af dare la manutenzione a personale quali cato.
• Non usare mai il sistema se il cavo di alimentazione
è danneggiato.
Magazzinaggio
Il braccio dell’acceleratore può essere piegato in modo da
ridurre al minimo l’ingombro dell’acceleratore per un comodo
magazzinaggio. A questo proposito, allentare le manopole
del braccio dell’acceleratore, quindi piegarlo verso il basso in
direzione del sostegno.
Smaltimento
Discus Dental si preoccupa della tutela dell’ambiente. Si
raccomanda di smaltire questo prodotto in modo adeguato
al termine della sua durata di esercizio in conformità alle
leggi e alle normative vigenti in materia di smaltimento di
dispositivi elettronici.
Attenzione: tensione pericolosa
4. Istruzioni per la sostituzione dei fusibili
(fare riferimento alle immagini sulla parte anteriore della confezione)
1. ATTENZIONE: scollegare l’acceleratore dalla presa
di corrente.
2. Utilizzare un cacciavite Phillips per rimuovere la vite
sul fondo della scatola dell’alimentatore. Tenere da
parte la vite per il riassemblaggio.
3. Togliere lo sportello della custodia.
4. Estrarre il cavo di alimentazione bianco dal suo
punto di connessione e lasciarlo libero (vedere la
gura 4.1).
5. Per trovare i fusibili, cercare l’apposita etichetta
vicino al lato superiore destro (vedere la gura 4.1).
6. Con un piccolo cacciavite piatto a lama ne aprire
il lato destro dello sportello dei fusibili ed estrarre il
portafusibili rosso (vedere le gure 4.2-4.3).
7. Rimuovere i fusibili da entrambi i lati del portafusibili rosso –
osservare la loro posizione nel portafusibili (vedere le gure
4.4-4.5).
8. Inserire i nuovi fusibili facendoli scattare nel portafusibili;
dovrebbero essere posizionati vicino al lato con le alette
(sopra) (vedere le gure 4.4-4.5).
9. Reinserire il portafusibili nella sua sede iniziando dal lato delle
alette. Spingere il portafusibili verso l’interno veri candone
l’adeguato posizionamento. Se il portafusibili non è inserito
bene non è possibile chiudere lo sportello.
10. Chiudere lo sportello dei fusibili.
11. Reinserire con decisione il cavo di alimentazione nella custodia.
12. Reinserire la vite nello sportello riavvitandola con un
cacciavite Phillips.
