My work has been focused on renewable energies in general and on bioenergy in particular. I
developed energy analysis that are performed from the point of view of environmental and social
sustainability. As for the bioenergy field, my work has been focused at assessing the performance of
different biomass-to-energy systems in terms of energy produced, greenhouse gas emissions saved
and economic returns for specific conversion technologies and areas.
I collaborate with the Environmental Princeton Institute at the University of Princeton on the issues of
transport fuels alternative to fossil fuels in general and in particular on synthetic Fischer-Tropsch
liquids produced from the co-gasification of biomass and coal. My contribution focused on assessing
the availability, energy requirement and cost of biomass feedstocks, with specific attention to
biodiversity and food vs. fuel issues.
A significant part of my research activity has also been focused on climate change impacts on
ecosystems at local scale. I have therefore developed a good knowledge of climate change future
scenarios, expected impacts on vegetation and animal species.
I have supported the teaching activities of different courses in particular I have been assisting in the
Ecology and in the Modelling and Simulation courses for undergraduates. Moreover, I have
collaborated in organizing the 2009 Alta Scuola Politecnica course in Global Change and
Sustainability.

developing and obtaining a certification system within the UNI EN ISO 9001 and UNI EN ISO 14001
certification systems.
