REGION OF ABRUZZO CREATING
AN “ABRUZZESE EMIGRATION MUSEUM”
With the letter below from the President of the Consiglio Regionale degli Abruzzesi nel
Mondo (CRAM) the Region of Abruzzo is creating a Museum dedicated to the emigrants
who left Abruzzo for an opportunity for a better life in the world; but never forgot their
homeland. They are seeking individuals who are willing to share their stories and photographs to help create this museum. The program is voluntary and is designed to work directly from the Region. If you are interested, contact Enzo Paglia, President of the FADM
for information on presenting the information.
Cari amici abruzzesi,
quando rivestivo la carica di Presidente CRAM ho sentitamente apprezzato l'impegno e la forza delle comunita abruzzesi nel mondo, pertanto ho voluto fortemente la
delega all'emigrazione in questa nuova amministrazione regionale.
Presidente CRAM e Assessore
all'emigrazione
Donato Di Matteo

“S’ACCOSTA”
di Livio Conti
Ho rifatto la scia tante volte
Da quando sono emigrate
A rivedere il mio paese natìo:
Cosa che ho sempre anelato
Ma non intento illudere me stesso
Quello che non vorrei si accosta
Quel giorno presto arriva:
Infatti gia’ sento bussare alla porta
Giacche gli anni volano via
Il tempo incomincia a mancare
Moriro di nostalgia:
Quel di che non potro piu viaggiare
Prego intensament il signore
E chiedo il suo intervento
Cosi quando non potro piu viaggiare
Egli verrà ad alleviare il tormento
Allora tirero fuori tutti I miei ricordi
Li analizzero attentamente
Quelli che ho assorbito vaggiando
Con il cuore e con la mente
Si vedranno altri emigranti arrivare
Con valigia fatte di plastica e colla
ma l’autore di quest strofette:
Non si vedra piu tra la folla
Rifaro lo stesso itinerario
Ripercorrero la vecchia scia
Sorvolero terra e mare:
Con le ali della mia fantasia
A quel punto e arrivata quell’ora
Di cui eglia ha scritto e parlato
ma non serbera alcun rancore:
Poiche e grato di quanto ha gia viaggiato

-ABRUZZO HERITAGE~ Garry Marshall~
Garry Kent Marshall (born November 13, 1934) is an American actor, director, writer, and producer.
His notable credits include creating Happy Days and its various spinoffs, developingNeil Simon's 1965
play The Odd Couple for television, and directing Nothing In Common, Dear God, Pretty Woman, Frankie and
Johnny, Runaway Bride, Georgia Rule, Valentine's Day,New Year's Eve and Beaches.
Marshall was born in the New York City borough of The Bronx, the son of Marjorie Irene (née Ward),
a tap dance teacher who ran a tap dance school, and Anthony Wallace Marshall (1906–99), a director
of industrial films and later a producer.[2] He is the brother of actress/director Penny Marshall and
Ronny Marshall Hallin, a TV producer. His father was of Italian descent, his family having come
from San Martino sulla Marrucina, Chieti, Abruzzo, and his mother was of Welsh and Irish ancestry; ] His father changed his last name from "Masciarelli" to "Marshall" before Garry was
born. Marshall was baptized Presbyterian and also raised Lutheran for a time. He attended De Witt
Clinton High School, where he was a classmate of Spider-Man artist Steve Ditko, and Northwestern
Garry Marshall
University, where he wrote a sports column for The Daily Northwestern, and is a member of the Alpha
Tau Omega fraternity.
Marshall began his career as a joke writer for such comedians as Joey Bishop and Phil Foster, and then became a writer for The Tonight
Show with Jack Paar. In 1961 he moved to Hollywood, where he teamed up with Jerry Belson as a writer for television. The pair
worked onThe Dick Van Dyke Show, The Joey Bishop Show, The Danny Thomas Show, and The Lucy Show. Their first television series as creator/producers was Hey, Landlord, which lasted one season (1966–67). They then adapted Neil Simon's play The Odd Couple for television. On his own, Marshall created Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, starring his sister Penny, and Mork & Mindy, which were produced
by his associates Thomas L. Miller, Robert L. Boyett, and Edward K. Milkis. He was also a co-creator of the short-lived sitcomMakin'
It, which the three men also produced.
In the early 1980s, Marshall met Hector Elizondo while playing basketball and became great friends. Elizondo appears in every movie
that Marshall directed, beginning with Marshall's first feature film, Young Doctors in Love. Elizondo once noted that he is written into all
of Marshall's contracts whether he wanted to do the movie or not. In the opening credits of Exit to Eden, their eighth movie together,
Elizondo is credited "As Usual ... Hector Elizondo". In 1984 Marshall had a movie hit as the writer and director of The Flamingo Kid.
A consummate producer, Marshall wore many hats during this period of his career: most of his hit TV shows were created and executive produced by him. His first producing assignment came with Hey, Landlord in 1966. He stepped up the very next year, producing The Lucy Show. Then came successes in producing The Odd Couple, Laverne and Shirley, Blansky's Beauties, Mork & Mindy, Angie,
and Happy Days.
Marshall also launched independent productions, via his theatre (The Falcon in Toluca Lake) and in association with productions
launched with talent he was grooming and working with for years. One such project, titled Four Stars, was directed by actress Lynda
Goodfriend(who portrayed Lori Beth in Happy Days), and was based on a play Goodfriend had read when she was studying at the Lee
StrasbergCenter, which had been written by John Schulte and Kevin Mahoney. It starred Julie Paris (the daughter of Happy
Days director and Dick Van Dyke Show co-star Jerry Paris) and film veteran Bert Kramer. Marshall went on to focus on directing feature
films, with a series of hits, such as Beaches, Pretty Woman, The Princess Diaries, and most recently Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve.
Marshall is also an actor, making his TV acting debut starting as a child with a recurring role in the long-running CBS series The George
Burns and Gracie Allen Show (1950–58), appearing on the television series Murphy Brown and in such movies as Soapdish,
on FOX'sfilmmaking-competition reality TV series On the Lot, which aired in 2007, and provided a guest-starring voice for The Simpsons episodesEight Misbehavin' and Homer the Father. He also appeared in two episodes of Happy Days as a drummer.
Marshall's theater credits include Wrong Turn at Lungfish, which he wrote in collaboration with Lowell Ganz, The Roast with Jerry Belson,Shelves and Happy Days: A New Musical with Paul Williams, which had its premiere at The Falcon Theater in Burbank, California in
the summer of 2006.
In 1996 he was awarded the Women in Film Lucy Award in recognition of excellence and innovation in creative works that have enhanced the perception of women through the medium of television.
In 1997, Marshall was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame for his contributions to the field of television.
Marshall also has a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. He played the role of "director" on Burbank's "Lights...camera...action!"
float in the 2014 Rose Parade. His son, Scott Marshall, is also a director. In 2014, he appeared in a guest star role in a February episode
in season 11 of Two and a Half Men on CBS. In 2014, Marshall received the Laurel Award for TV Writing Achievement from
the Writers Guild of America.

Alpini National Meeting L’Aquila—2015

Italian good news: A petition to give back Italian citizenship
to those who lost it when they left Italy.

Expo Milano 2015 is a thrilling round-the-world trip brimming with surprises. Every pavilion offers a journey through
the culture, perfumes, colors and traditions of its people.
Many countries have also organized special attractions, live

International Organizations
The theme of Expo Milano 2015: Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life, is of
paramount importance to the development of humanity. The participation of
International Organizations at the exhibition is, therefore, key to its success.
Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life means food security, access to food, and
sustainability: all the central themes in the work and mission of some of the
most important organizations worldwide.

Corporate
The involvement of the corporate world with Expo Milano 2015 is
of major importance for the event’s success. A Universal Exposition
looking towards the future and towards technological innovation
would not be effective without the active involvement of business,
which is the driving force behind much research and development.

PRESIDENTS CORNER - Reflections
By Enzo Paglia—President—FADM
of our time.
An ancient Chinese proverb states “may you live in interesting times”. At first glance you scratch your head and
say, what does that mean? What qualifies to be interesting? What does not? As I look back on our generation I
would say we have lived in not just one interesting period, but many. My generation was on the tail end of the
cold war 1950’s to a new dawn of the 60’s, Bob Dylan—
”The times they are a changing “ era. That was followed
by the War in Vietnam and the political upheaval it created for not only
for our generation, but for our parents as well. 1968; a man lands on the
moon, 1970’s—oil embargo from OPEC shocks the country. 1980’s—the
Berlin Wall and subsequently the USSR is brought down. The 1990’s the
start of globalization brings new concerns to people all over the world.
The 2000’s brings 9/11 and the start of a continuous period of war for our
country. And many other events which shape us as we proceed.
One consolation is to keep our feet firmly to the ground and understand
what we stand for. Family values, Heritage, Cultural and fellowship are
what keeps us grounded in our every day lives. Without those, we would
be swept away with the current of continuous change..
FAMILIES CELEBRATES 65TH ANNIVERSARY OF FATHER ALFONSO CIARAMELLANO’S ORDINATION
.
Members and friends of the Serraiocco and Ciaramellano Families
gathered together at St. Joseph Parish in Downtown Detroit on Sunday, June 26 in celebrating Mass with Nellinas’ Uncle Alphono Ciaramellano’s 65th anniversary of his ordination. Don Alphonso was
assisted in the Gregorian Mass by Father Greg Tokarski and Deacon
Joe Lennon from St. Joseph’s parish. Don Alphonso is on a tour of
the U.S.A and Canada. He was 23 years old when he received his
calling and has never looked back. “By God’s word I am doing what I
love best” he stated. At 88 years of age, he is not slowing down but
continuing to follow the path he has chosen.
Dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Abruzzo Culture

tender carrots and white, floury potatoes are
grown, while the Valle del Giovenco is renowned for its apples: the tart Limoncella
variety and crisp Cerina variety, with its delicate aroma.
