Full professor of Histology and Embryology in the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of
Modena and Reggio Emilia . Visiting professor in 1984 at the Department of Anatomy of the University of
Cambridge, U.K. 1985-2000 Associate Professor of Histology at the University of Modena e Reggio Emilia.
Vice-Rector of University of Modena e Reggio Emilia from 2005 to 2008. Since 2004 President of Nursing
degree, vice-director of Anatomy and Histology Department, Director of CEIA center, Head of Centre of
Proteomic (CIPro) of the University of Modena e Reggio Emilia. Actually Director of CHI.M.O.MO of the
University of Modena e Reggio Emilia. Author of full-length papers on peer reviewed journals concerning
the dynamic of ovarian germ cells, analysis of molecular factor affecting oocyte competence and the use
stem cell in regenerative medicine. His scientific interest also concerns apoptosis related to signals in
precancerous lesions of the human colon and Akt-mediated nuclear signalling. Recently his field of interest
is on human stem cells isolated from alternative source, i.e. Dental Pulp Stem Cells and Amniotic fluid Stem
Cells, and on their differentiation ability in vitro and in vivo. The results of his work have been object of
invited talks at International Conferences.
Currently involved in international collaborations with: Prof. P.De Coppi of Great Ormond Street Hospital,
London; Prof. C. Stainbach of Max Plank Institute, Berlin; Prof. Jonny Huard Stem Cell Research Center,
University of Pittsburgh.
