Arte, vino e cultura e’ la fusione che contraddistingue Villa Sandi, una tra le cantine piu’ affascinanti
nella zona del Prosecco. Non so quante volte ho visto quella sede, un po’ distrattamente, e mai avrei
pensato che sotto a quel marchio famoso e a quella villa seicentesca ci fossero delle cantine sotterranee.
Le cantine sotterranee di Villa Sandi si trovano in gallerie che risalgono alla Prima Guerra Mondiale e
sono state scoperte casualmente durante dei lavori di restauro della Villa.
Nel 1917 la caduta di Caporetto portò la prima linea di guerra vicinissima a Villa Sandi divenendo sede
del Comando di Corpo d’Armata a della difesa della zona. In questo periodo furono scavate delle gallerie
sotto Villa Sandi, casualmente ritrovate con i lavori di restauro dell’intero complesso. Le gallerie si
sviluppano su due piani a 7 e 10 metri di profondità e collegavano il Comando Militare con le trincee
della prima linea del Piave, distante meno di mezzo chilometro in linea d’aria.
Ripristinate e consolidate con archi di cemento armato, le gallerie sono diventate parte delle cantine
sotterranee che si sviluppano per circa un chilometro e mezzo, dove vengono tenute ad invecchiare le
bottiglie dello spumante Metodo Classico Opere Trevigiane. Le cantine sotterranee di Villa Sandi sono

visitabili gratuitamente dal lunedi’ al sabato, su prenotazione, per gruppi superiori 10 persone. Non vi
resta che raggruppare un po’ di amici e godervi un pomeriggio tra i cunicoli sotterranei.

Art, wine and culture is the mixture that characterizes Villa Sandi, one of the most beautiful wineries in
the area of Prosecco. I can’t say how many times I’ve seen the headquarter, a bit distracted and I’ve
never thought that under that brand and that famous seventeenth-century villa, there would have been
amazing underground cellars. The underground cellars of Villa Sandi are located in galleries dating back
to the WWI and discovered accidentally during the restoration of the Villa.
In 1917 the fall of Caporetto brought the first line of the war close to Villa Sandi which became the seat
of the Army Corps in charge of the defense of the area. In this period were dug a number of tunnels under
Villa Sandi. Actually, the galleries spread over two floors at 7 and 10 meters in depth and they used to
connect the Military Command to the trenches of the first line along the Piave river, which is less than
half a kilometer as the crow flies.
Restored and strengthened with reinforced concrete arches, the tunnels since their discover have become a
part of the wineries that stretch for about one and half kilometer. In such a stunning place the bottles of
sparkling Metodo Classico Opere Trevigiane are aged. The underground cellars of Villa Sandi can be
visited free of charge Mondays to Saturdays, for groups over 10 people and you just need to book in
advance. Gather some friends and enjoy an afternoon in this charming underground tunnels.
