Siamo alla fine ed è ora di fare il punto degli
obiettivi raggiunti e delle attività realizzate.
Abbiamo sviluppato la dimensione europea
della nostra scuola, promuovendo il pluralismo linguistico e la conoscenza di culture,
stili di vita e sistemi educativi diversi; abbiamo promosso la qualità nel sistema educativo con il confronto costruttivo tra le due
scuole partner; abbiamo consolidato e potenziato l’uso delle nuove tecnologie di comunicazione, abbiamo interagito con il territorio
(il Comune, la televisione locale, le scuole di
Barletta) e con le famiglie.
Due anni di progetto ma tante nuove esperienze per una vita…
Ci siamo conosciuti, abbiamo fatto amicizia,
abbiamo scoperto nuove cose insieme, abbiamo comunicato in Inglese, Italiano e Rumeno, abbiamo viaggiato, abbiamo conquistato
le montagne, abbiamo ammirato la calma del
mare, abbiamo gustato la cucina tradizionale
Rumena e Italiana, il modo di vivere delle
nostre famiglie, la storia, il folclore delle
nostre tradizioni,.
Abbiamo trascorso momenti meravigliosi
insieme, siamo diventati più aperti, più fiduciosi in noi stessi e negli altri, abbiamo imparato che siamo diversi ma uguali,
abbiamo imparato ad essere

caratteristica forma, "Belpaese" per il suo
clima e le sue bellezze naturali ed artistiche,
geograficamente l'Italia è costituita da tre
parti: una continentale, delineata a nord dalle
Alpi e a sud dalla linea convenzionale che
congiunge La Spezia con Rimini, una peninsulare, che si allunga nel Mediterraneo in
direzione nord ovest - sud est, ed una insulare, rappresentata principalmente dalle due
maggiori isole del Mediterraneo, la Sardegna e la Sicilia presso la quale, in corrispondenza dell'isola di Pantelleria, si ha la minima distanza dall'Africa, distante circa 70
chilometri. I confini territoriali si estendono
complessivamente per 1.800 chilometri,
mentre lo sviluppo costiero raggiunge i
7.500 chilometri. L'Italia conta più di 59,7
milioni di abitanti, per una densità di 198
abitanti per km².
L'etimologia del nome, secondo una tesi
antica, si basa sul nome greco
italós, che significa toro, come
forma contratta e grecizzata
dell'umbro vitlu (vitello). Tale
etimologia era stata già tramandata dagli stessi greci che vedevano
l'origine del nome in Ouitoulía,
ossia "terra dei vitelli". Essa fu in

Often called “Peninsula” for its main geographic nature, “Stivale” (Boot) for its
characteristic shape,
“Belpaese” (beautiful country) for its climate and its natural and artistic beauties,
Italy is geographically made up of three
parts: a continental one, with the Alps at
the north and a conventional lines that link

Mediterranean Sea towards north-west and
south-east; an insular one, made up mainly
of the two largest islands in the Mediterranean, Sardegna and Sicily, that is about 70
km far from Africa.

Located on the eastern side of the Carpathian mountain range, we are relatively
isolated from the rest of Europe and gelding here from the west involves a spectacular drive across the mountains. Although generally seen as a disadvantage,
this isolation from the main European
center has resulted in a region that has
kept its traditions relatively untouched
and its environment pristine and unspoiled. Here you can discover miles of
forest unpolluted mountain range, fasci-
nating villages, unique monasteries
(feudal arts) and some of the friendliest
people in Europe.

Romanian culture and civilization – defines an old space where time perspective
would acquire new valences on people’s
value who throughout birth, life and activity would register in the patrimony of
soul and feeling of this nation so hardened by the uproar of the vicissitudes life
experienced the ones who dwelled from
the beginnings by God’s grace in this
corner of heaven of the Moldavian
land. The feudal times have been
marked by many wars against the
Turkish Empire that wanted to dominate this territory, too, but has never
succeeded in conquering it. As a sign
of gratefulness to God, that has
guided and empowered the local inhabitants during the fights, whole
generations of sovereigns have built
monasteries, real works of art, that
have lasted through time. We find
them nowadays as historical and medieval art monuments, monasteries
protected by UNESCO, that permanently attract millions of tourists.

La Puglia è la terra degli ulivi, del sole
incessante, del mare lucente, di tradizioni,
sapori, profumi e della semplicità. Regione altamente rustica chiamata inizialmente
Abulia ha origini Apule, una popolazione
abitante in epoca pre- romana nella parte
centro-settentrionale della regione.
Successivamente con l’occupazione romana fu istituita la “regio Apulia at Calabria”che comprendeva un territorio molto
più vasto. Solo negli ultimi decenni l’uso
del singolare Puglia si è stabilizzato, prima dell’istituzione delle regioni si utilizzava la dizione “Le Puglie”.
Gia negli anni ’50 la Puglia divenne meta
turistica. Il successo di questa regione è
dovuto al suo patrimonio storicoculturale. Da non sottovalutare anche
l’aspetto folcloristico che è radicato in
usanze antiche. I flussi turistici si dividono fra centro sud e nord della Puglia. Località balneari, come Salento e Gargano,
offrono la possibilità di
poter alloggiare e degustare prodotti tipici pugliesi. La cultura pugliese
è prevalentemente rustica,

”Puglia, the heel of the boot”
Puglia is the land of olive trees, of incessant sun, of bright sea, of traditions,
tastes, flavours, and of simplicity.
It’s a highly rural region, it was once
called Apulia, because its original people were the Apuli, a population living in
pre-roman era in the central and north
part of the region. Then, with the Roman
occupation, the “regio Apulia et
Calabria” was instituted that included a
much larger territory. It was called “The
Puglie”. Only in the last decades its
name has changed into Puglia. Since the
50s Puglia became a destination for
tourists. The success of this region is due
to its historical and cultural heritage.
You can’t undervalue also the folkloristic aspect that is still living in ancient
traditions. Tourists go to the centre, to
the north and to the south of Puglia. Sea
resorts, like Salento and Gargano, offer
tourists the possibility of staying there in
different types of accommodation, and
taste local typical products. Puglia culture is mainly rural, based on the simplicity of its grown products characterized by unique flavours and with very
high nutritional value. Puglia cuisine is
rich in tastes that reflect their region
characterized by the production of oil
and wine.

The history of Barletta told by Eraclio, the “Colossus”
The Town, Eraclio and the “Challenge”
Welcome to Barletta, one of the most important architectonic and cultural centres in Puglia.
My name is Eraclio, like the name of the wellknown Byzantine Emperor, and I have been in
Barletta since 1491. Barletta people call me the
“huge man” because of my tallness and I have
stood out on this pedestal since a Venetian ship
sank near Barletta coast while it was carrying
me. When I arrived I soon admired the beauty
of Barletta which already was a known commercial and harbour town. All the economic
activities were concentrated in the huge and
important Swabian castle, founded by Frederick II, who got enchanted by the beauty of the town.
The castle is situated on a strategic area of the town. In fact its
plan is composed by a huge square with four angular bastions.
From two of them, you can have a superb view of the sea, so,
thanks to them, enemies’ ships could be seen and attacked.
For this reason the castle has been controlled by various armies,
among which the Normans, the Swabian and Angevin. On 13
February 1503, an important event made the town famous all
over Italy. In fact the French De La Motte insulted and mocked
the courage and the loyalty of Italian knights. It was decided
then that 13 Italian knights , lead by Ettore Fieramosca from Capua would challenge 13
French knights. The result of the challenge
was the clear victory of the brave Italian
knights, as testified by the bronze statue in
Via Trani, which represents the victorious
Ettore while he was sending the over-confident
French De La Motte away. In the following
years, the town was devastated from plague and
earthquakes and also by the Germans who, in September 1943 invaded the town during the 2nd
World War.
Notwithstanding the town has grown and now
it has about 100,000 inhabitants. Today the town belongs to
young people; their meeting point is the Castle and the Cathedral, and the numerous pubs and pizzerie as well. Nowadays a lot of tourists come to Barletta mainly to admire me
and the numerous churches in the town.
In short, Barletta has always been a great protagonist in the
strategic, artistic and cultural field, conquering all the people
that have been lucky to admire it in all its extraordinary
beauty.

Pizzica is a popular traditional
dance & music originally born in
the Salento peninsula in Pglia
(Lecce in particular) and later
spread throughout all of the Puglia
region.
Pizzica is part of the large family of
the tarantella dances.
It is a wild music and dance that
was used to heal women stung by
the “taranta”, a type of spider.
They danced for days until they
reached a trance state that let the
taranta poison come out of the
body.
Dancing the tarantella alone was
said to be unlucky.
The tarantella is a circle dance,
performed clockwise until the music in the set changes to become
faster, and everyone changes direction. The music is generally led
by a mandolin.
There are several local variations
of tarantella, including the widespread Neapolitan (from Naples)
and Sicilian varieties, and others
including the Apulian and
Calabrian tarantellas. This dance
is a staple of some old-fashioned
Southern Italian weddings. It is led
by a caller (central singer/speaker).
A tarantella is also a song that can
be played by instrumentalists.
Traditional pizzica is danced embracing a partner. The hug usually
involve two individuals of the opposite sex, but two women can be often seen dancing together. Nowadays it is rare to see two men dance
an entire pizzica, except in the
Ostunese tradition (town of Ostuni), where one of the two men
who dance jokingly acts as a
woman for fun.

Un entusiasmo lungo 2.176 Km: La Romania ci attende...
28 10 07. Pronti, si parte!
Con molto entusiasmo e molte aspettative eccoci giunti alla partenza per Falticeni: la Romania ci attende.
Ore 10. Alunni e professoresse pronti all’aeroporto con uno zaino
pieno di attesa. Ma anche con un po’ di paura per il primo viaggio
“Tra le nuvole”.
Saliti sull’aereo, neanche il tempo di allacciare le cinture e già
l’hostess ci annuncia l’arrivo a Bucarest. Toccata terra ecco ad
attenderci un genitore dei ragazzi che ci ospiteranno e con un
pulmino ci apprestiamo a coprire centinaia di chilometri per raggiungere la città del nostro soggiorno rumeno.
Curiosi dal finestrino assaporiamo un paesaggio del tutto diverso
da quelli a cui siamo abituati: vaste campagne, piccoli villaggi,
contadini che si recano nei campi con carretti trainati da cavalli.
Sette ore di viaggio e finalmente arriviamo al “Collegiul Tehnic
Mihai Bacescu”, ci attendono la Preside, i docenti e le famiglie
ospitanti.
Sorridenti e accoglienti i visi, ma un po’ tutti paralizzati dalla
timidezza e , siamo sinceri, dalla scarsa padronanza della lingua.
Il gelo, la difficoltà della lingua, la timidezza, come per incanto
spariscono la sera in discoteca… lì la musica e il corpo comunicano in maniera universale.
La nostra giornata trascorre così tra lezioni in classe, visite guida-
te, serate divertenti.

A scuola un’altra
grande sorpresa:
intervallo di dieci
minuti alla fine di
ogni ora di lezione!!!! Ogni scuola,
inoltre, è dotata di
mensa e casa alloggio per gli studenti
dei paesi limitrofi.
Non molto soddisfatti i nostri “esigenti” palati, che hanno apprezzato carni, purè,
sarmale, un po’ meno gradita la tradizionale ciorba.

Here we are, ready to leave, with a lot of
enthusiasm: Romania is waiting for us.It’s
10 o’ clock. Teachers and students are at
the airport with their back-sacks full of
expectations But also with a little anxiety
for the first journey “through the clouds”.
As soon as we are on board, not even the
time to fasten our seat belts, the hostess
announces our arrival in Bucharest. At the
airport, a student’s father is waiting for us
and by a small bus we start our journey,
hundreds of kilometres long, to reach Falticeni, the town of our Rumanian stay.
Curious, from the windows, we look at the
landscape, very different from the ones we
usually see: wide
countryside, small
villages, farmers going to work with horse-carts. After a seven
hour journey, we arrive at “Collegiul
Tehnic Mihai Bacescu”; the headmistress,
some teachers and the hosting families are
waiting for us, with our smiling and pleasant faces, but a bit “paralyzed” with shyness and, to be sincere, with our bad
knowledge of the language.
Cold, linguistic difficulties, shyness, as if
by magic, disappear in the disco that evening…., there music and the body language speak in a universal way.

Every school has a canteen and a boarding-house for the students of the nearby
towns and villages. Not completely satisfied our mouths, that have appreciated
meat, purèè, sarmale, but not the traditional “ciorba” very much.

It’s the fourth year that ITIS
“Fermi”- Barletta has taken part in a
LLP Comenius Project, aiming at improving the cooperation between European
schools and the knowledge of European
languages and cultures. This year our
partner country is Romania: we have
been the first to visit our partner school
in Falticeni. At Palese Airport 10 students, with our backsacks and so much
desire of adventure, met our teachers, Ms
Antonietta Garribba and Ms Elisa Zaza
(the group coordinator). In Romania we
were hosted by families, that welcomed us
warmly, giving us the opportunity to
know habits and customs of the place.
Among the activities planned for this two
week project visit, there were cultural
teaching comparisons in order to know
each other’s education systems. Very
interesting the approach to historical and
geographical aspects of Romania, but
mostly the approach to socio-cultural
aspects, to folk music and dances.We
appreciated the different organization of
the Romanian school day: five days at
school, six lessons a day, with ten
minutes’ breaks for every lesson, useful
for students and teachers to restart with
more “energy”. Among the numerous
activities, there were also a football competition and a cooking competition. We
had also visits and trips, not always easy,
because of the long distances between
towns and because of not very efficient
road network. In our free-time, we en-
joyed the

movida, in the town discos and pubs: as
usual, the entertainment “speaks” a common language.…. the language of the
young. These are the words the Romanian Headmaster told us at the end of our
Romanian experience: “We hope you’ll
leave with the idea of what you have seen
here and not with the idea of what you
heard before arriving here”. Our trip
ended so……with a little sadness for our
return to routine. In March the Romanian
delegation is coming to Barletta, for a
new “crossing” of languages, cultures,
life experiences….. Thanks, Comenius!

Pe parcursul celor doua saptamani am
invatat multe lucruri de la familia la care
am stat. Familia Dibenedetto este o familie cu niste oameni superbi care m-au

Am invatat multe lucruri si despre bucataria italiana si as putea spune ca o ador
dar nu si pastele.Acestia mi-au oferit de

le arat cum se face ciorba.
Spre deosebire de Romania acestia nu
pun baza in micul dejun ci in pranz unde
se serveste cate patru feluri de mancare.
Seara stau cu totii in familie,mai putin
Bartolo si joaca scupa,un joc de carti pe
care l-am invatat si eu si care imi
place foarte mult.
Multumita faptului ca in aceasta
regiune nu se prea vorbeste engleza am
invatat si putina italiana,care zic eu ca pe
parcurs o sa ma ajute.
Sincer aici m-am distrat de minune si mam simtit foarte bine in sanul acestei
familii si totodata le multumesc mult ca
au avut grija de mine si ca m-au tratat ca
pe un fiu si ce sa zic...........ca ii iubesc
mult si le raman dator.

March 2008, an unforgettable date
During the two weeks I have
learnt a lot of things from the family I
have stayed in. The Dibenedettos are a
family with some superb people that have
treated me as a son and who I owe a lot.
Bartollomeo, the boy partivipating in the
project is a loving nice boy, but he hides
these feelings behind some Dior sun
glasses that he hardly leaves in the evening, when he has to go to sleep. Missis
Caterina, Bartollo’s mother, is a special
woman I feel close with and who I will
hardly leave. Mister Giuseppe, Bartollo’s
father is also a special man, who loves
motorcycles very much, but who does not
stay home very much, being busy almost
all day. Francesca, Bartollo’s sister is a
nice young woman who studies medicine
and who is to marry in two years’ time, her
fiancé, Ruggiero. I have also learned a lot
of things about the Italian cuisine and I
could say I love it, but not the pastas. They
have offered me all kind of things in what
regards the food, but unfortunately, I do
not know how we prepare the “ciorba”.
Unlike Romania, they do not give much
importance to the breakfast, but to the
lunch, where they serve about 4 kinds of
dishes. In the evening they all stay in the
family, beside Bartolo and play scupa, a
card game that I have also learned and that
I like very much. Due to the fact that in
Katy at Giuseppe’s home
this region English is very little spoken I
have also learned a little Italian that, I
think, will be useful to me in the future.
Sincerely, I had a very good time here and
I felt wonderful in the middle of thus family and at the same time I would like to
thank them very much that they took care
of me and they treated me as their own son
and what is to be said...........that I love
them very much and I own them. In conclusion I would like to ask you not to
laugh at me at the airport if you see me
crying and not to say the ones at home I
have cried although it is normal and......as
the song says, “The boys also cry sometimes".

28 ottobre 2007, l’inizio di un’esperienza emozionante, la
partecipazione al Progetto Comenius, uno scambio culturale, ma anche affettivo con una ragazza rumena. Partire
dalla mia città, lasciare la mia casa, le mie cose, le mie
abitudini per andare a Falticeni è stato un rischio, un mettersi in gioco… credo di aver vinto questa partita! Stare a
Falticeni è stato per me una splendida occasione di incontro. Simona, la mia ospite, un po’ timida ma simpatica, si è
rivelata da subito una buona compagna di viaggio. La famiglia di Simona, l’accoglienza dei genitori, i comfort
della casa hanno contribuito al mio star bene. Mi sono
sentito “a casa, in famiglia”, ero uno di loro…. perfettamente integrato nella quotidianità. Mi sembra, oggi, ad
esperienza finita, di non avere solo una famiglia italiana,
ma anche una rumena. Mi manca tutto di quei giorni in
Romania!

of an exciting experience, the
participation to the Comenius
Project, a cultural exchange, but
also an affective one with a Romanian girl. Leaving from my
town, from my home, my things,
my habits in order to go to Falticeni has been a risk, ….. but I
think I won this game! Simona,
my host, a bit shy but nice, has
been a good partner in this jour-
ney, since the beginning. Simona’s family, her parents’ welcoming, their home’s comforts
have contributed to my wellness. I
felt “at home, in family”, I was
one of them…. Perfectly integrated in their everyday life. I
feel, now, at the end of this experience, that I have not only an
Italian family but a Romanian
one. I miss everything of those
days in Romania!

“Mihai Bacescu”. La rappresentativa
italiana è formata da sei valorosi calciatori: in porta Salvatore Russo, in difesa

mitico assistman Mimmo Fiorella e in
attacco il miglior realizzatore della serie

E’ stata una partita molto combattuta, il
primo goal è stato segnato da un calciatore rumeno Cosmin Simerea ottimo giocatore tra le file rumene. Il tifo rumeno era
molto rumoroso, ma erano anche presenti tifosi italiani venuti da Barletta con i
giocatori, anke essendo pochi, il tifo si
faceva comunque sentire. Inizialmente la
partita era alla pari, le due squadre si
annullavano a vicenda gli italiani erano
piu aggressivi dal punto di vista mentale
essendo fuori casa. Ma al decimo minuto
con uno spunto da fuori classe di Cosmin, ci fu il primo goal della Romania e
lo stadio esplose di gioia, e successivamente al 12’ 17’ e al 20’. Ma al 27’ con
una giocata di clase da fuori aria di Corrado Cardone in rovesciata,pallonetto ed
euro goal firmato da Corrado per l’ Italia.
E con il risultato di 4-1 si va negli spogliatoi . . . Il secondo tempo e un continuo assedio italiano nell’area rumena,gli
italiani sembravano giocare non solo con

Tehnic “Mihai Bacescu”. The Italian
team was composed of six valorous footballers: Salvatore Russo as a goalkeeper, Peppino Daleno and Angelo
Venturini as defenders, in the middle
ground Bartolo Dibenedetto and the
great assistman Mimmo Fiorella and
finally Corrado Cardone, the best forward in Serie A. It was a much fighted
match, the first goal was scored by a Romanian footballer, Cosmin Siderea, very
good footballer in the Romanian team.
The Romanian fans were very noisy, but
there were also fans from Barletta that,
even if they were few, supported their
team warmly. At the beginning, the match
was level, the two teams cancelled each
other out, even if the Italians were more
aggressive because they were foreigners.
But at the 10th minute, with a sprint of the
champion Cosmin, there was the first
Romanian goal and the fans blew up with
joy. Later there were other three Romanian goals, at 12th, 17th and 20th minutes. But at the 27th minute, with a great
overhead kick by Corrado Cardone, there
was a lob and a euro-goal by Corrado for
Italy. And with 4 – 1 score, the first part
finished. The second part was a continuous siege of the Romanian round by the
Italian footballers, that played with all
their hearts and not for the victory only.
All the Romanian footballers took up a
defensive position, to oppose the Italian
siege, but in vain: at the 20th minute a
fantastic goal by Bartolo arrived, a powerful punt, and the goalkeeper couldn’t
do anything. Only an oversight by the
Italian defence allowed the 5th goal by
the Romanians, at the 30th minute. The
Italians reacted well to the goal suffered
and attacked immediately searching for a
goal. After a lot of actions, poles, crossbars, the so longed goal arrived from
Corrado, who stirred up the Italian fans.
He incited his team-fellows, even if there
were only 5 minutes left. There were 5
minutes of pure attack by the Italian
team, who tried to score a goal in vain,
until the final whistle arrived… But it
doesn’t end so…...

abbiamo imparato ad essere EUROPEI.
Instead of Conclusions
We are at the end and it’s time to analyze the objectives achieved and the
activities realized. We have developed
the European dimension of our school,
implementing the linguistic pluralism
and the knowledge of different cultures,
life styles and education systems. We
have improved the quality in the education system, through the comparison
between the two partner schools. We
have reinforced our knowledge about
the new communication technologies.
We have interacted with our territory
(the Commune, the local TV, the schools
in Barletta) and with the families.
Two years of project but

time...We met each other,
we made friends, we have
discovered new things
together, we have learnt
