The student will prepare different pieces, thus acquiring:
a) listening and memorization skills that will help him in solving
performance problems independentl;
b) a structured learning approach;
c) ability to follow different musical lines in poliphony;
d) attention to posture;
e) ability to grasp the expressive intentions of a piece using their
intuition;
f) extensive knowledge of styles, forms and historical periods.

Programma d'esame
The student will be asked to prepare:
a) a piece from Frescobaldi's "Fiori Musicali" and a piece by a
contemporary author up to Pasquini ( ex. Cavazzoni, MS di
Castell'Arquato, Gabrieli, Merulo);
b) two pieces (either Praeludia or Choral fantasies) by Buxtehude,
Lubeck, Tunder, Scheidemann, Böhm etc.;
c) a Prelude and Fugue by Bach of a suitable level (ex. C major BWV
531, g minor BWV 535, C major. BWV 545, g minor BWV 578 etc.);
d) two choral preludes from Bach's Orgelbüchlein;
e) a romantic french piece (ex. Franck: Pastoral, Prelude, fugue and
variation; Guilmant, Pieces dans different styles; Widor, any
movement from Symphonie op. 13; Saint-Saëns, Trois rhapsodies
etc.);
f) a modern piece (ex. Langlais: "Ite Missa est" from Hommage à
Frescobaldi, Theme and variation, etc.; Litaize: Toccata "Veni
Creator"; Andriessen: Intermezzi"; One Adagio and one Allegro from
Hindemith's sonatas; One movement from Schroeder's, Bornefeld's,
Eben's (or other italian author) sonatas.
g) oral exam on organ building (italian, german, spanish organ) and
interpretation studies (small musical forms).

The student will be asked to prepare:
a) two pieces from spanish, flemish or english schools of the XVI-XVII
centuries (ex. Arauxo: Tientos; Cabanilles, Cabezon, Bruna etc.;
Sweelinck: Praeludium pedaliter, Echo fantasia in d, Chorals etc. ;
Byrd etc.);
b) a prelude and fugue of medium difficulty by Bach (ex. C major.
BWV 531, g minor. BWV 535, C major. BWV 545, G major. BWV 550, d
minor BWV 539, A major, BWV 536, fugue in g minor BWV 578, etc.);
c) two choral preludes of medium difficulty by Bach (Orgelbüchlein,
Leipziger Chorales, Third part of the Clavier-Übung);
d) a romantic german or italian piece (ex.: Mendelsshon: Sonate Op.
65; Reger from op.59, 63, 92, 129; Rheinberger, Sonate 1 to 4; Bossi,
Yon, Mattei, Capocci, Ravanello etc.);
e) A modern piece (ex. Langlais:"Ite Missa est" from Hommage à
Frescobaldi, or Theme and variations, etc.; from Neuf pieces: Chant
de Joie con Chant de peine, etc.; Alain: Choral dorien, Choral
phrigien, etc.; Litaize: Toccata "Veni Creator", etc.; Duprè; Hindemith:
Sonate II, III; etc.; a movement from a sonata by Schroeder,
Bornefeld, Eben, Santucci, Donella, Zardini, Bettinelli etc.);
g) Oral exam on organ building (german, flemish and french organ)
and on bigger musical forms.
Important: it it not allowed to play again pieces already prepared for
the Organ I course.

The student will be asked to prepare:
a) a Toccata by Frescobaldi or other contemporary authors and a
piece by an important french composer of the XVII-XVIII century,
lasting at least 5 minutes (except Quinquors and big Dialogues sur
les Grand Jeux);
b) an important prelude or choral fantasy with pedal by a
north-german pre-bachian author;
c) a prelude (or Fantasia or Toccata) and fugue by Bach (ex. BWV 538,
543, 541, 540, 552, 532) or a whole Trio sonata BWV 525-530;
d) two important choral preludes in different styles by Bach (Leipziger
chorales, Clavier-Übung part III, Schubler chorales);
e) An important romantic piece lasting about 8-10 minutes (Franck,
Liszt, Reger, Bossi or others);
f) and important modern piece lasting about 8 minutes;
g) First-sight transposition of an easy piece for organ;
h) Oral analysis and performance of a piece given by the examiners 4
hourse before the exam;
i) Oral exam about registration issues, history of organ literature and
organ building.
Important: it it not allowed to play again pieces already prepared for
the Organ II course.
