Welcome Message
The Italian Society of Pathology and CytodiagnosticsItalian Division of International Academy of Pathology
(SIAPEC-IAP), jointly with the Italian Society of
Cytology (SICi), has the great pleasure and honor to
organize the 39th European Congress of Cytology, on
behalf of the European Federation of Cytology Societies
(EFCS).
It will be held in September 20th-23th,2015 in Milan
in the Centro Congressi di Milano (MICO) during the 2015 Universal Exposition
EXPO, which will offer visitors a veritable journey around the world, through
the cultures, histories and innovations of over 140 participating countries.
The focused scientific program of the Congress will handle all aspects of cytology
from A to Z. The highlights of the 39th ECC will be: Innovative technology in
cytology; cytology in the multidisciplinary context; quality control; quality
assessment and improvement and the requirements for training cyto-technologists
and pathologists.
It will be a unique opportunity to reach expert cytopathologists coming from
every part of Europe and beyond, as well as several specialty audiences in one
location.
In addition to the most recent advances of the art, several practical cytology issues
will be addressed in a number of workshops and slide seminars.
I am sure that participation in this event will provide the opportunity to combine
days of intense and constructive work with the possibility to establish new
scientific collaborations and new friendly interactions.I wish everyone willing to
participate an interesting and pleasant stay.
See you in Milan.

ABOUT MILAN
A lively city!
Milan, the city selected for the 2015 EXPO, was the thirteenth most visited
city in the world in 2014 and the New York Times named it the #1 place to
go in 2015. It’s a city to explore and love, full of treasures and a lively night
life. Of ancient roman origin, Milan has always been an interesting and
vibrant city: it was one of the most glorious towns during the Middle Ages,
and the home of most spectacular Italian courts during the Renaissance.
Leonardo da Vinci arrived in Milan from Florence looking for a job and ended
up staying for a long time, as well as many others did after him. Milan has a
considerable part of the Italian cultural heritage and is one of the major art
cities. Countless works of art are housed in Milan, and almost all can be
reached on foot or by tube from the conference center.
EXPO 2015
Expo Milano 2015 is a non-commercial Universal Exposition with some very
unique and innovative features. The theme of Feeding the Planet, Energy
for Life is of sure interest also for the biomedical engineering community.
Open from May 1 to October 31, 2015, the Expo will host over 130
participants. Running for 184 days, this giant exhibition site, covering one
million square meters, is expected to welcome over 20 million visitors.
TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM IN MILAN
Moving around Milan is easy. Take a look at the web site of ATM. Azienda Trasporti
Milanesi – ATM – is a Public Limited Company owned by the Milan Municipality and
managing public transportation in an area with a population of 2.4 million people.
Quite remarkable are the historical trolleys, still serving the city after a century (you
might have seen one of them“on leave”to San Francisco, where they serve the F line
in the Fisherman’s Wharf area). If you have a smartphone, you can download the
ATM’s app http://www.atm.it/en/ViaggiaConNoi/Pages/ATMMobile.aspx, to help
you navigate around.
