Massimo Sorli was born in Sanremo in 1956 - DIMEAS
Massimo Sorli was born in Sanremo in 1956. He was graduated in Mechanical Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino in 1981 and he received his PHD title in Applied Mechanics from the same university in 1987. He was Assistant Professor in Applied Mechanics at the Department of Mechanics of the Politecnico di Torino from 1990 to 1991. From1992 he was Associate Professor in Applied Mechanics, from 1992 to 1993 in the Technical University of Cassino, and after 1993 at the I Engineering Faculty at the Politecnico di Torino. Since 2000 he is Full Professor in Applied Mechanics at the Politecnico di Torino, II Faculty campus of Vercelli. He is a member of the Department of Mechanics and from October 2003 to September 2007 was the deputy Chairman. Massimo Sorli since October 2007 he has been Chairman of the Department of Mechanics. Since October 2007 he was also appointed President of the Centro di Servizi per la gestione della Sede di Mondovì – CESMO – of the Politecnico di Torino. The scientific activity of Massimo Sorli is mainly focused in the area of mechatronics, mechanical and fluid (pneumatic, hydraulic and electromechanical) servo-systems, spatial moving simulators with parallel architectures, controlled systems for vehicle and aeronautical applications. Actual research activities concern innovative actuation systems for tilting trains, fly-by-wire servoactuators, fluid borne and structural hoses transmissibility, dynamic flight simulators, .performances and prognostic aspects of actuation systems. Massimo Sorli was responsible and participated to many industrial research agreements carried out with automotive companies (BMW Motorsport, Dayco Fluid Technologies, Fiat Auto, Ferrari, General Motors Powertrain Europe, SKF) and aerospace ones (Avio). He was the coordinator of the Operative Unit of the Department of Mechanics in several research projects sponsored by MIUR and CNR, and he was involved in recent PRIN projects (1999, 2001, and 2003). At present he is the scientific coordinator of the research projects “Analysis of fly-bywire devices for helicopter’s flight control”-year 2004 and “FAST: Fault tolerant actuation systems for tilting trains”-year 2006, both funded by Regione Piemonte . He is referee for international journals, among which Int. Journal on Mechatronics, Journal of Systems and Control Engineering (Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part I), CRC press. Massimo Sorli is member of the IFToMM Mechatronics Technical Committee and he is also ASME and IEEE member. In relation to his didactic activity, Massimo Sorli in the current academic year is chair of: Mechatronics, and Control of Mechanical Systems, at the I and II Engineering Faculty of the Politecnico di Torino. He is also a lecturer of Mechanic Servo-systems for the PHD School of the Politecnico di Torino. Prof. Sorli is author of more than one hundred and seventy scientific publication and papers, presented at Conferences or published in national and internationals journals.
