Pietro Maria Castiglioni, a.k.a. Piero, was born in Lierna (Como) in 1944. He graduated in architecture
in 1970. From 1973 to 1979 he worked with his father Livio in Via Presolana, concentrating
particularly on lighting.
In 1968 and 1973 he was named collaborator for the XIV and XV “Triennale di Milano". In 1972 he
worked together with Ugo La Pietra on the exhibition "Italy: the new domestic landscape" at the
"Museum of Modern Art" in New York.
With his father, his work included designing lighting for public and private art galleries, temporary
exhibitions, show rooms, offices, hotels and residences both in Italy and abroad. Custom light fixtures
were often designed and made by craftsmen in small quantities. The "Scintilla" system, produced by
Fontana Arte in 1983, was the outcome of experience gained in these years.
After his father's death (1979), the studio continued work in the same office, together with new
collaborators.
