n’intera giornata nel segno di
friends of Stradivari, giocata
per metà a Palazzo Pallavicino Ariguzzi, sede della Fondazione
Stradivari e (da qualche mese) della
Scuola internazionale di liuteria (ora
Istituto di Istruzione Superiore Antonio
Stradivari), dove in mattinata e nel
pomeriggio si è tenuto un articolato
convegno per gli studenti, e per l’altra
metà al Museo Civico Ala Ponzone,
teatro della presentazione del violino
“Ackroyd Ford” di Carlo Bergonzi e
del travolgente recital di Sergej Krylov.
Tutto ciò è avvenuto il 2 dicembre per
quella che ha voluto essere l’ultima
manifestazione pubblica del 2010 della

Fondazione, realizzata in collaborazione
con la Regione Lombardia. È stata una
sorta di sintesi dell’attività di friends,
che significa meravigliosi strumenti
da ammirare e da suonare ma anche
occasione di studio, di confronto e
di approfondimento di tematiche
legate alla liuteria. L’Aula Magna
dell’Istituto, gremita di studenti, ha
ospitato l’incontro sul tema “Il violino
antico e la moderna scienza”, suggerito
dall’incontro tra il progetto friends e
la Collezione Permanente di Liuteria
Contemporanea della Fondazione
Stradivari, costituita dagli strumenti
vincitori delle varie edizioni del Concorso Triennale. Sono intervenuti:
Virginia Villa (direttore Fondazione
Stradivari), Fausto Cacciatori (conservatore strumenti friends of Stradivari),
Flavio Smerieri (docente IIS Stradivari)
e i maestri liutai della scuola. Quindi,
nel pomeriggio, “Ascolti dal vivo:
confronti e discussioni”, laddove i
violinisti Antonio De Lorenzi e Marco
Bronzi hanno suonato e analizzato gli
strumenti antichi di friends of Stradivari e i vincitori di medaglia d’oro del
Concorso Triennale, dando vita a uno
stimolante confronto di stili e di epoche
che ha affascinato gli studenti. Il tema
del confronto tra strumenti antichi e
strumenti della nostra epoca sarà al
centro anche della prossima edizione
di Audizioni al Museo. In serata, in
Sala San Domenico del Museo Civico,
momento concertistico di prestigio
per chiudere l’anno in bellezza. E chi
meglio di Sergej Krylov, testimonial
eccellente di friends of Stradivari nel
mondo, avrebbe potuto entusiasmare
il pubblico? Il formidabile virtuoso, nel
giorno del suo 40esimo compleanno,
ha esaltato le qualità timbriche dello
Stradivari “Scotland University” della
collezione Lam, affidatogli grazie al
network friends of Stradivari, sulle note
di Bach, Ysaye e Paganini, suscitando
la standing ovation. Nella circostanza
è stato ufficialmente esposto, nella sala
riservata agli strumenti di friends of
Stradivari del Museo Stradivariano, il
violino “Ackroyd Ford” di Carlo Bergonzi. Vi rimarrà per almeno un anno.

full day with the friends of Stradivari,
spent at Palazzo Pallavicino Ariguzzi,
the headquarter of the Stradivari
Foundation and (since some months) of
the International Violin Making School for
Instrument of Cremona (now Istituto di
Istruzione Superiore Antonio Stradivari),
where a morning and afternoon workshop was
held for the students’ benefit. In the evening
at the Museo Civico, the presentation of
Carlo Bergonzi’s “Ackroyd Ford” violin
and the sensational recital by Sergej Krylov.
All this on December 2, 2010, the last
public event scheduled for 2010 by the
Stradivari Foundation, organised in collaboration with the Lombardy Region. It was a
sort of synopsis of the activities of the
friends of Stradivari Association, whose
purpose is to admire and listen to the sound
of these magnificent instruments, but also to
study, compare and analyse in detail any
issue correlated with violin making. The
Institute’s Assembly Hall, packed with students, was the venue for the workshop dedicated to the following theme: “Ancient violins and modern science”, an outgrowth of

the common interests of the friends of
Stradivari and the Permanent Collection
of Contemporary Instruments of the
Stradivari Foundation, which includes
the winning instruments of the various
editions of the Triennial Stringed
Instrument International Competition.
Virginia Villa (Director of the Stradivari
Foundation), Fausto Cacciatori (curator of
the friends of Stradivari collection) and
Flavio Smerieri (teacher at the IIS Stradivari)
made the presentation. In the afternoon, “Live
listening: comparisons and discussions”, with
the violinists Antonio De Lorenzi and Marco
Bronzi. They played and analyzed friends of
Stradivari ancient instruments and winners
of the gold medals at the Triennial Stringed

Instrument Competition, giving rise to a stimulating comparison between different styles and
eras, a topic the students found fascinating. The
comparison between ancient instruments and
contemporary ones will also be a key topic in the
next edition of Recitals at the Museum. In the
evening, at the Museo Civico in San Domenico
Hall, a prestigious concert was held to close out
the year’s agenda on a high note, featuring none
other than Sergej Krylov, excellent ambassador
of friends of Stradivari in the world. He totally
thrilled the public. The formidable virtuoso, on
his 40th birthday, highlighted the extraordinary
timbre of the Stradivari “Scotland University”
violin from the Lam collection, entrusted to
him by the friends of Stradivari network, by
playing Bach, Ysaye and Paganini. The audience showed its appreciation with a prolonged
standing ovation. On the same occasion, Carlo
Bergonzi’s “Ackroyd Ford” violin was formally
put on display in the room reserved to friends of
Stradivari collection in the Stradivari Museum.
It is expected to remain there for at least one year.
