Abitare lontano da tutto. Ricercare
una condizione precisa per lo studio,
la concentrazione e la produzione.
I programmi di residenza per artisti e designer
sembrano essere diventati negli ultimi anni
una tappa necessaria e fisiologica allo
sviluppo della carriera di ogni autore: spostarsi
alla ricerca di un nuovo modo
di vivere come strategia pianificata
per trasformare e arricchire la propria pratica.
“Abitare” ha deciso di entrare nelle stanze
e attraversare gli studi di due artist residency
program molto distanti geograficamente
tra loro, ma dalla natura simile e forse
emblematici del nostro tempo: lontani dalla
congestione urbana e dalla densità, vicino
alla condizione di ritiro e isolamento.
Due isole artificiali come il Centre international
d’art et du paysage de l’île de Vassivière in
Francia dove ora vive l’artista italiano Diego
Marcon e Indy Island, una micro-architettura
galleggiante concepita da Andrea Zittel
per l’Indianapolis Museum of Art.
Living far from it all. Looking for the perfect
conditions for research, for concentration
and production. In recent years, residence
programmes for artists and designers seem
to have become a necessary, physiological
stage in the career development of creative
individuals, who go off to look for a new way
of living as a strategic choice that transforms
and enriches them and their work.
“Abitare” has been investigating the interior
spaces of two artist residency programmes
that are continents apart, but quite similar
in nature: far away from the idea of urban
congestion and density, close to the condition
of being on retreat and living on the edges.
Here we look at two artificial islands:
the Centre international d’art et du paysage on
the Île de Vassivière in France, where Italian
artist Diego Marcon is currently living,
and Indy Island, a floating piece
of micro-architecture created by Andrea Zittel
for the Indianapolis Museum of Art. FG

caratterizzata da spigoli smussati,
trasforma gli ambienti della residenza in
un paesaggio nel quale da un lato poter
affinare concentrazione e pensiero,
dall’altro abitare in relazione con la
natura, il vento e la luce di Vassivière.

The interior re-conceived by the
architects, which is white, abstract and
softly contoured, turns the residential
location into a landscape in which to
concentrate and sharpen the mind on
the one hand, and to establish contact
with the natural world of Vassivière,
