Maurizio Tira (1961), ingegnere, è Professore Ordinario di Tecnica e pianificazione urbanistica nella Facoltà di
Ingegneria dell'Università degli Studi di Brescia. Oltre alle attività didattica e di ricerca come responsabile di
progetti in Italia ed in Europa, svolge attività professionale in pianificazione urbanistica ed ambientale,
valutazione di impatto, accessibilità e sicurezza dell'ambiente urbano, pianificazione del traffico e della mobilità
sostenibile.
È stato responsabile dell'Unità di ricerca dell'Università di Brescia nel progetto europeo "Promotion of measures
for Vulnerable Road Users" (PROMISING) ed ha cooperato al coordinamento del progetto "Developing urban
management and safety" (DUMAS), pure finanziato dalla CE.
È ora responsabile dell'Unità di ricerca del progetto del VI programma quadro "Ranking for European road
safety".
È stato membro esperto nell'Azione COST-Urban civil engineering C6 sulle misure per i pedoni e dal 2004 è
vice-chairman dell'Azione COST -Urban civil engineering C19 "Proactive Crisis Management of Urban
Infrastructure".
Membro esperto dell'European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) dal 1999, ha lavorato nei gruppi di lavoro su
Risk Assessment and target setting e Transport safety organisations. Dal 2004 ha diretto il gruppo di lavoro su
Evaluation of National road safety policies, all'interno del progetto SEC-Belt.
Autore di centoventi tra monografie e articoli su riviste nazionali ed internazionali, fa parte del comitato
scientifico della Rivista internazionale Recherche, transports, sécurité ed è Presidente del Centro Provinciale
studi Urbanistici presso l'Ordine degli Ingegneri della Provincia di Brescia.
Ha contribuito all'organizzazione delle quindici conferenze internazionali di Brescia "Living and walking in
cities" (dal 1994 al 2008) e dal 2002 è anche membro del Comitato scientifico. Insegna anche Environmental
Analysis and Assessment nell'Università di Brescia e Analisi dei sistemi urbani e territoriali nella Facoltà di
Architettura dell'Università di Parma.
Maurizio Tira, born in Cremona, Italy, in 1961, graduated in Civil Engineering for Environment and Planning at
the Polytechnic in Milan. He is Full Professor of Town and regional planning at the University of Brescia, Faculty
of Engineering, since 2002. He is specialised in mobility and planning, especially for vulnerable road users, and
in urban management and road safety. His main research fields are "accessibility and safety in urban
environment", "urban and traffic planning" and "planning in hazardous areas".
He has been responsible of the research unit of the University of Brescia within the EU funded research
programme "Promotion of measures for Vulnerable Road Users" (PROMISING) and he co-operated in coordinating the EU funded project "Developing urban management and safety" (DUMAS).
He is now working in the EU funded project "Ranking for European road safety" and takes part in several
researches of National importance. He has been expert in the EU Action COST-Urban civil engineering C6 about
the measures for pedestrians and - since 2004 - vice-chairman of the EU Action COST -Urban civil engineering
C19 "Proactive Crisis Management of Urban Infrastructure".
Invited expert of the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) since 1999, he contributed to the working
parties on Risk Assessment and target setting and Transport safety organisations. Since 2004 he chairs the
working parties on Evaluation of National road safety policies, within the SEC-Belt project and Road safety policy
integration: from Brussels to Brussels.
He is President of the Urban Study Centre of the Province of Brescia and member of the Board of the Italian
Urban Study Centre.
Author of various books, papers and other publications (around 120 in total), he has been invited as a speaker
to a large number of Conferences in Italy and abroad.
He contributed to the organisation of the fifteen International Conferences in Brescia "Living and walking in
cities" (since 1994 to 2008).
He is member of the scientific committee of the International Review Recherche, transports, sécurité, edited
from the Institut National de recherche sur les transport et leur sécurité, in Paris.
He teaches Environmental planning in the University of Brescia (I) and Regional systems analysis at the Faculty
of Architecture of the University of Parma (I).
