I
t is hard to believe that it is April already and many
of you will be making preparations to head north for
the summer. As you are preparing, please remember
to make arrangements to have your plants and shrubs
looked after in your absence. Also take any items that
might take to the air in a bad storm. Before you leave,
notify the office of when you are leaving and who to contact in case of an emergency. While we don’t anticipate
emergencies, it is always good to be prepared.
A community open forum meeting was held on March 6 and was very well attended.
Julie Williams of the Largo Police Department presented information relating to Neighborhood Watch Programs. As a follow up to that, we will be starting up a Community Watch
Committee which will be chaired by John McComas. The initial planning meeting was held
on March 31st. Christine Huebel from the Largo Parks and Recreation Department also attended and spoke of the many and varied activities offered by the City of Largo. Gerry Soules,
President of the Ranchero Village Homeowners Association, also spoke at the meeting.
Bill Reynolds recently resigned from the Board of Directors. Bill has served on the
Board since its inception and has made many contributions to the Board and the park as a
whole. Thank you for all your years of service Bill!
The Co-Op will be hosting a pork barbeque on Thursday, April 5 at the Hacienda Clubhouse. We plan to serve from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m. If you know someone who will need
to have a meal delivered, please notify the office by April 4. Due to the anticipated number
of people at this barbeque, we are asking that no one ask for take outs until after 1:30 p.m.
The Association of Ranchero Village Homeowners Inc.
Gerry Soules, President

W
ith the January elections over and our membership drive to collect dues wrapping
up, your HOA is now concentrating on our Committee events. First, I would like
to say thank you to all those who paid their dues which will allow us to keep going
this year. With all the e-mail addresses, we will reduce costs and be much more accessible for
information sharing and communication. To those who have not paid, we ask you to consider
supporting your Association. We cannot make everyone happy but without an HOA, we will
stand alone without any support in our efforts to continue improvements in the Village.

The HOA Committees working with the Co-Op Committees now discuss common goals
on Home Sales, Park Improvements, Rules and Regulations, the Prospectus, Neighborhood
Watch and of course, our views on the Budget.
On behalf of our Executive, thank you and stay tuned as we input your e-mail addresses
and bring you information on our future.

H
ere it is April already! Many of you
will be leaving and going North for
the Summer. We have had a very
busy Winter here and we have enjoyed all
the activities going on.
The Water Color show was well attended
and did you all know we had so many talented people here? What wonderful pictures there
were. The show raised $1900 for Hospice! Thanks to all the workers that made this program
so successful.
I am happy to announce we have volunteers to work in the print shop. Pat Ginchoff
#271 will be the head of the committee. Sue Plunkett, Huguette Marleau and Vic Rendon are
the other workers. Thank you all for volunteering to work at the print shop! Mary Donovan
will still be available to help them out. Please get your request for printing to them 2 weeks
before you need the items. If you need printing done, please don’t ask Mary but ask one of
the others. Thanks Mary for getting the print shop up and running after the fire!
As we go the Women’s Club has not had their election yet. Thanks Anne Baldwin for
the great job you did as President for the last three years. The ladies of the park appreciate
all you and your board did to entertain them.
The ice machine at the Corral Clubhouse has been moved into the kitchen there … so
it is possible to get ice there anytime the Clubhouse is open. We hope you use it and enjoy
it. When it was locked in the back room it wasn’t getting used very much.
Thanks to all the residents who volunteers this winter. Without your help many of the
activities would have had to shut down. Remember to say thanks to those who volunteer.
As those who are leaving to go North please stay safe, and don’t forget to return in the
Fall! And for those of us who stay here watch the bulletin for activities going on. We will
stay busy I am sure! The SAC Board meets the 3rd Friday of the month at 10:00 a.m. at the
Lakes Clubhouse and is open to all.

M
arch is now a memory but a memory not soon forgotten. With two shows, an Irish
Dinner, a Pancake Breakfast and election of three new board members, it has been
busy. Congratulations to Tony Caruso, Roger Derocher and John Snow our newest
Board members.
April 7, 2012, 9:30 a.m. Corral Clubhouse is our Men’s Club Directors meeting where
the newest members will be sworn in and a new Vice President elected. Thursday, April 12,
2012 (Hacienda) is the next General Meeting followed by our Pancake Breakfast on Friday,
April 20, 2012 starting at 7:30 a.m.
The Men’s Club wants to thank Tom Hunt for his 13 years of service. During this time,
Tom worked very hard to make the Men’s Club and its functions a success for our community.
We also thank everyone who helped this year with all our events and especially those who
support us by attending.
Have a safe and happy summer and we’ll see you in the Fall.
Men’s Club Entertainment
Boyd Lee, John VanHorn, Gerry Soules
_____________________________________________________________________
T
he Men’s Club presented the final two
professional entertainment shows for this
season in March and what two excellent
performances they were.
The Marlinaires Variety Show on March
3 and the Mark and Clark Show on March 29
were very well attended. From the comments
of the many residents who attended the Marlinaires Show, it was probably one of the best
ever presented in our community.
The Men’s Club have sponsored professional entertainment in Ranchero Village for the
last three years and the shows have been so readily accepted and supported by our residents
that plans are now being made to book several shows for next season.
Check the Men’s Club Bulletin Board at the Hacienda Clubhouse in April for a list of
the Entertainment Performances and the dates for next season.

he league season has now ended. Our Monday team ended up in 4th place, and even
though our two teams in the Wednesday Sunshine League didn’t place at the top, I
am proud of all our team members. We had two new teams, and we tried our best and
kept a good attitude, and on top of it, we had a lot of fun. I know next year we will place
higher, and have a good time doing it. We have a lot of good people. If anyone is interested
in joining our league teams, please call me at 535-2439.
Our banquet on the 8th of March was a success. This was the first time we had one
here in the park at the Corral Clubhouse, catered by Sonny’s Bar-B-Q which the food was
fabulous. It was voted to do it this way again next year. I will have the winners in the tournament played on March 12 and March 15 in next month’s article, along with the leaders in
the Turkey Shoot which was played on 3-24.

We don’t have any other special events scheduled for this month, but we will always have
the ‘Horsecollar’ on Tuesdays & Thursdays (weather permitting) starting at 6:30. Please be there
at 6:15 and bring a quarter, and as usual, you are guaranteed not to go home empty-handed.
We will also have the competition style play on Sundays starting at 6:30. Bring 3 dimes and no
guarantees on this one. If you don’t know how to play shuffleboard, come anyway and we will
show you how. It is not hard and really a lot of fun. We are usually the loudest group in the park.
So, you all come!

Progressive Euchre – Thursday Nights
Carol and Ken Martin
___________________________________________________________________________
W
e had a great turnout for Euchre in the month of February.
Our numbers are improving! As life in Ranchero speeds up
in the last days for snowbirds, we would like to remind you
that we will continue regular play until the end of March. Starting
in April, you may bring your own cards and play informally even
through the summer. We have applied to use the Corral Clubhouse on Thursdays next year,
which would be much more comfortable and convenient. More on that later.
Play begins at the Lake Clubhouse at 6:30 p.m. and we continue till about 8:30 p.m. We
have all levels of players, from novice to experienced! Remember to bring a dollar for prizes for
the highest scores and most lone hands.
Winners for this month were:
Feb. 9 – Larry Kasa and Camilla Wirtes
Feb. 16 – Reg Hill and Mary Hickey
Feb. 23 – Norm Johnston and Helen Johnston
Mar. 1 – Doug Ward and Dieter Adomeit
Mar. 8 – Helen Johnston; 2nd place – Jean Gagnon and Doug Ward
If you have any questions, call Carol and Ken Martin @ 559-1528.
Join us these last few Thursdays for an evening of cards!

OW, okay ladies here it’s April already! I should be back with you playing “Phase

keeping you ladies in line. She is such a great person. So let’s play cards. For some
fun join us. We always have room for more.

W
e certainly enjoyed great weather for the 2012 Bocce season. We welcomed new
players and enjoyed old rivalries with seasoned players. An end of season banquet
was enjoyed at the Country Super Buffet, a favorite of many players. The courts
and equipment are available to all residents during the summer months. Why not hone your
skills and join us for the next season of league play (January – March) – everyone is welcome.

A
nother season, another show. You all just came, not it’s time to go. We had such fun,
but we want you to know, we’re getting ready for next season’s show. That’s right. Sam
is tossing around some ideas for his new play. New people are expressing an interest
in joining the group and we’re sure you’ll see them on stage. Some of our actors who took
a year off are ready to return. By the way, if you have never acted (or not done it since high
school or college), and think you’d like to have fun with us next year, please call me at 5380373. You see, Sam writes parts for the number of people who express an interest in being in
the play. This year that meant 16 parts. Next year we’d like to see your name on the program.
So, if you were in the audience during our performance of “Rumors are Flying” and
had an evening of good entertainment and a lot of laughs, please consider calling me before
you leave to say, “I Want to Be in the Play Next year.” Approximately 40 people assisted this
year in some capacity and about 400 people attended the shows. If you’d like to work with
scenery, programs, costuming, etc., etc., we’d also like to know. Our first meeting will be
November 14 with auditions on December 13. So put us on your calendar and have a healthy,
wonderful, safe summer. See you in the Fall.

nother year is under our belts and the Annual Awards Night recognizing those golfers
who had all the fun, which was everyone.
The season is over but work has begun on next year’s program which will start in
November. Players are encouraged to let Ken Martin know if they will be playing next year
and who their partner will be. Spares need to sign up early to fill vacancies or be available
for absent golfers. As your president, I will be seeking input from you regarding some of the
concerns raised this year and will publish the results prior to our next official league start.
It has been a pleasure to serve you and on behalf of Ken Martin and Greg Rendall, we
thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you next year.

uring the first week of March, the Tennis Club, once
again, held its annual tournament. This year the
weather cooperated fully, providing us with beautiful warm and sunny days for the entire week. In the Silver
Final of the women’s division, Joyce Sage and Judy Powell
emerged as the winners over Pat Ginchoff and Rita Reed. In
the Gold Final, Jan Casali and Jean Johnson defeated Bernice
Shurb and Celine Dudley. Both finals were close affairs with
both sets not settled until a fifth a deciding game.
In the men’s division, winners of the Silver Final
were Ian Brash and Dwight Cameron who defeated Barry
Ryckman and Rich Casali by a score of 6-2. In the Gold
Final, Bob Chapman and Pete Halder were victorious over Steve Rummery and Doug West
by a score of 6-4.
Finally, on Friday, the mixed division was played before an enthusiastic group of about
45 spectators. Winners of the Silver Final were Jean Johnson and Rich Casali who defeated
Maureen Cooksey and peter halter by a score of 6-2. In the Gold Final, Jan Casali and Doug
West defeated Bernice Shurb and Steve Rummery, also by a score of 6-2. Many thanks to
Richard Edwards for, once again, running a very successful tournament and also to his volunteer officials – Elaine Brash, Bob Chapman, Glen Sage, Richard Bevan and Gerry Hughes.

On Tuesday, March 20, the Tennis club held its spring annual meeting at the Lakes
Clubhouse. The Board of Directors was duly elected for the coming year and plans were
discussed for the 2012-2013 season. Members are looking forward to another enjoyable
season. And, we sincerely hope that many new players will join us next year.
The RV Tennis club wishes everyone a happy, safe and healthy summer and we hope
to see all of our players back on the courts in November!

I
t was a lot of fun to have so many people show up to play Table Tennis this month. We
played both single and doubles and with so many people there it gave us a chance to sit
and rest between games. There is room for anyone who wants to play – amateurs through
experts, residents and guests. We all have a great time. So pencil in Table Tennis for Monday
nights at 7:00 at the Hacienda. Hope to see you there. If you have any questions, call me at
536-0373.
If you’re leaving soon, have a safe and healthy summer. We’ll look for you in the Fall.
For us full-timers, see you Monday night!

Outreach
Wilma Krenzelak
_____________________________________________________________________
A
big Thank You to all who helped make our Open House a great success. Thanks to
SAC for the best donuts in the world! We had a lot of favorable comments on the
refreshments and the products we make!
We were pleased that Annie Johnson from the Largo Palms Nursing Home on Starkey
Rd. came to visit. Annie provided our workers with such positive feedback, and was so appreciative for our donations of pillows, walker bags, knitted shawls and clothing protectors.
Carly White from the White Sewing Center also attended to observe our production. Her
son Shane is the one who works magic on our sewing machines when they are not performing
properly … as they often do! It encourages the volunteers so much to have this interaction and
to know that their selfless time and effort is recognized. A special thank you to Carly and Annie!
Outreach has been a BLESSING to all who participate! It means for us “gently older
folks” to feel that we are young enough to lend a helping hand for those who are less able in
nursing homes and hospice, the veterans and the homeless, especially when it is so difficult
to volunteer in more strenuous activities. Our members have no need to leave their home
area; they don’t have to face traffic or construction congestion while volunteering for a very
good cause. And, not only is participation in Out Reach a helping hand, but an opportunity
for fellowship with other Ranchero residents.
Please remember that we need replacements for leader and assistant leader. Give special
consideration to assuming these positions so that Out Reach can continue its rewarding work
for our community. Don’t think that you can’t do it … just step in, we’ll be happy to assist
you in the transition. YOU CAN DO IT!!
Helping Hands
Kathy Swaney
_____________________________________________________________________
O
nce again we are trying to establish a “HELPING HANDS” program in our community.
This is strictly a volunteer program, helping
residents in the park who are unable to do things
around their homes due to limited mobility. What
I need is a few good people (volunteers) and what
they are able and willing to do to help someone with special needs. Then I can match helpers with needers. If you want to help or need help with something around your home, please
contact Kathy Swaney at 812-5266 or Hazel Koreen at 531-7525.

TRASH – All residents are reminded that trash pick up is Monday and Friday. Do not
put trash out prior to 7:00 a.m. on the day of pick up. Having it out too early or the night
before attracts birds and animals. Bags get torn open and trash blows around. Recycle pick
up is Wednesday only. Please be aware of what is going into recycling bins. Wrong products
are being put into bins.
RECYCLE – Additional bins have been delivered to the maintenance yard for resident
convenience.
LANDSCAPER ISSUES – If a vehicle is pulled closely to the carport, the blowing
crew will not blow the carport around the car. They do not want to damage anyone’s vehicle.
Some vehicles are pulled in closely and tightly into the carport and they can’t get in with
their equipment.
Please be conscious of what you put in your yard. It is hard to see some items on the
large mowers.
If you have a citrus tree you would like to remove, a permit is required from the City
of Largo. Please come to the office to complete the paperwork.
ENJOY YOUR GRANDCHILDREN
When grandchildren come to visit enjoy the time together but please do not let them
drive your golf cart unless they are 18 years old or older per Ranchero Rules and Regulations.
DIAL DIRECTORY PHONE BOOK
Please check the information in our Community Phonebook and see if yours is accurate.
Some have already called with changes. We will be updating the book over the next 2 months
getting it ready to go to the printer. Drop off your changes in the office or leave a note in the
drop box outside the Hacienda Club House door. Thanks for your help.
COMING AND GOING
Please remember to check in and out with the office when you leave or return to Ranchero. Even short trips need to be documented in case of emergency.
ALL RENTERS MUST BE REGISTERED
It is the responsibility of the homeowners to make sure that any additional occupants in
their home are properly registered with the park. If you are planning to rent out your home or
have someone stay with you, review your Ranchero Rules and Regulations first. Additional
occupants and renters must be registered with the office and a background check performed
prior to their arrival. It is the Homeowners responsibility to meet all the requirements. There
is an application fee to cover the expense. Applications are available in the Office. They must
be accompanied by two legible forms of identification for each person. For international applicants, copies of passports and driver’s licenses are required. These should be submitted
at least 30 days in advance of the person’s arrival. Renters are to check in at the office upon
arriving in the community.
IF YOU ARE A RENTER OR ADDITIONAL OCCUPANT and haven’t done the
above, please come to the office immediately and get properly registered. Thank You!

Guests staying more than 48 hours MUST be registered in the Community Office. Guests MUST display Ranchero Village ID tags when at the pools. Residents should
be accompanying their guests while at the pool or other location and are responsible for the
behavior of their guests. Please review your Rules and Regs and acquaint your guests with
the rules also. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult who shall assume full
responsibility for their safety and conduct. No running, jumping or diving into the pool.
SOLICITORS
DO NOT let them into your home! Call the Largo Police Department (587-6730)
immediately if you see solicitors and please let the management office know after you have
called the police. We have been trying to catch and trespass them. If we can even get a license
plate number it would help immensely. Management has been working with the police in
an attempt to stop these offenders. Ranchero is a plainly posted No Soliciting Community;
no one should be coming to your door. These people are very bold and brazen; please help
us stop them and any other solicitors before they take advantage of anyone else in our community.
GLASS BOTTLES – It’s time to enjoy the pool and the beautiful Florida sunshine. PLEASE
REMEMBER that no glass of any kind is allowed around the pool area. We are getting reports
of beer bottles around the pool. If glass is broken, you have the potential of people getting
cut. If glass is broken in the pool, it can be quite expensive to clean out.
Food and drink are not allowed in the pool/hot tub. People have been seen eating
on the side of he pool and having their drinks inside the pool and hot tub. Please do not do
this.
No smoking at the pools – Please adhere to the new No Smoking Rules at the pools
and smoke only away from the pool area in the designated areas.
Hot tubs – These are for the use of adults only. No one under 18.
HOME SITE ALTERATIONS
If you are making any changes or additions to your home site or the exterior of your
home please come to the office and submit a completed request form. Paint colors must be
approved and a permit obtained from the office. The same applies to alteration requests; this
includes plantings. Submit your written request and wait until you have received approval
and a permit before proceeding with any work. Also, be sure to obtain any required City
permits.
DOG WALKING
Keep those plastic bags handy when walking your dog. Deposits are being left behind
and it’s unsanitary and unpleasant for everyone else. Be a good neighbor and properly dispose
of pet waste.
