ITALIANA S.P.A. FOR A FOREIGN AIR CARRIER PERMIT
Alitalia - Compagnia Aerea Italiana S.p.A. ("Alitalia")' hereby applies, under the
provisions of 49 U.S.C. § 41302, and Subparts B and C of the Department's Rules of Practice in
Proceedings (14 C.F.R. § 302.201 et seq.). and the provisions of the U.S. - EU Reciprocal
Recognition Procedures, for a foreign air carrier permit authorizing services to the full extent
permitted by the U.S. - EU Air Transport Agreement.
In support of this application, Alitalia states as follows:

The name and address of the Applicant is:

Alitalia seeks authority to engage in:

foreign scheduled and charter air transportation of persons, property and mail
between any point or points behind any member state of the European Union via

member of the European Common Aviation Area;

in the United States and any other point or points;
iv.
other charters pursuant to the prior approval requirements set forth in Part 212 of
the Department's Economic Regulations; and
V.
transportation authorized by any additional route rights that may be made
available to European Union carriers in the future.

The name of the foreign air transport authority with oversight of Alitalia is:

Alitalia's insurance coverage meets the liability limits and requirements for air carriers
set forth in 14 C.F.R. Part 205.

A copy of Alitalia's waiver of hability limits under the Warsaw Convention was filed in
Docket OST-95-236 on November 21, 2008.

AHtalia adopted the Family Assistance Plan of Alitalia-Linee Aeree Italiane S.p.A., and
filed a letter to that effect in Docket OST-1998-3305 on November 21, 2008.

Alitalia already operates service to the U.S., the scope of which will not be significantly
altered by grant of this application. Accordingly, grant of Alitalia's application will not
constitute a "major regulatory action" under the Energy Policy and Conservation Act of 1975, as
defined in 14 C.F.R. § 313.4(a)(1).
WHEREFORE, for the foregoing reasons, Alitalia - Compagnia Aerea Itahana S.p.A.
respectfully requests that the Department of Transportation grant it a foreign air carrier permit as
more fully described herein.
