10 cm x 20,30 cm, 3 gialli 10 cm x 20,30 cm
- Sfondo, colore blu chiaro compatto
102,90 cm di tessuto e almeno 101,50 cm - 106,50 cm
- Tessuto di rifinitura, colore blu medio compatto 27,50 cm *

Io ho usato # 2805.
- Filo per cucire a mano ( Io consiglio Aurifil Cotton Mako No.50) in colori da abbinare ai vostri pezzi da
applicare. Ho usato # 2860 (verde),#2120 (giallo), # 2425 (rosa pallido), # 2588 ( rosa scuro ), 1133 (
arancione).
- Filo per quilting, per la macchina da cucire
( Io consiglio Aurifil Cotton Mako No. 28). Io ho usato # 1148.
- Matita per stoffa ( per tracciare i contorni dei appliques).
- Spilli per appliques, spilli diritti per quilting e spille di sicurezza per imbastire.
- Aghi per appliques.
- Lampada ( o mettersi vicino ad una finestra).
- Vinile chiaro, di mediopeso e quadrato dalle dimensioni di 17,80 cm.
- Carta biadesiva ( se volete fare l'applique con carta biadesiva).
- Cerchi Perfetti di Karen Kay Buckley ( se state utilizzando l'applique con ago curvo, vi raccomando questi).
INDICAZIONI :
Per favore, leggete tutte le informazioni prima di iniziare!
Tagliare i pezzi di stoffa.
1. Dalla stoffa blu chiaro compatto, tagliare 25 A quadrati da 16,5 cm x 16,5 cm, per i blocchi dello sfondo.
2. Dalla stoffa blu chiaro compatto, tagliare 4 B quadrati da 11,43 cm x 11,43 cm, per gli angoli dei bordi.
3. Dalla stoffa del colore blu medio compatto, tagliare 12 C rettangoli da 16,5 cm x 11,43 cm, per i bordi.
Tracciare i contorni sulla carta biadesiva, stirarlo sul rovescio della stoffa e, tagliarlo al di fuori dei bordi
della linea di contorno.
4. Dalla stoffa blu chiaro compatto, tagliare 8 D rettangoli da 16,5 cm x 11,43 cm, per i bordi.

Se utilizzate il metodo tradizionale del applique con ago ricurvo:
Usare la sagoma della pagina con lo schema, con 0,5 cm di margine per la cucitura. Vedere il riquadro " Due
metodi ". Se si utilizzano i Cerchi Perfetti, per realizzare i cerchi:
Tracciare dei cerchi dal diametro di 5 cm sulla pagina modello e tagliarli lungo la linea. Vedere il riquadro "
Due metodi".
5. Da ciascuno dei tre tessuti gialli, tracciare e tagliare 6 E cerchi.
6. Tracciare e tagliare 6 E cerchi dal rosa più chiaro, 5 dal rosa chiaro, 6 dal rosa, 5 dal rosa medio e 5 dal
rosa scuro.7. Da ciascuno dei tessuti arancioni, tracciare e tagliare 5 E cerchi.
8. Da ciascuno dei 25 tessuti verdi, tracciare e tagliare 4 F foglie. Se state facendo l'appliquè a mano,
ricordatevi di lasciare un margine per la cucitura.
9. Tagliare il tessuto per lo sfondo 106 cm x 106 cm.
10. Tagliare l'imbottitura 104 cm x 104 cm.
11. Tagliare delle strisce di 6,35 cm di larghezza; i pezzi uniti per la loro lunghezza, devono risultare lunghi
circa 411,5 cm.
PREPARAZIONE PER L'APPLIQUE'
12. Creare le posizioni per la sovrapposizione: Posizionare il modello vicino ad una luce o finestra.
Appoggiarvi sopra il vinile. Utilizzare un pennarello indelebile con la punta fine, per tracciare il disegno
dell'applique sopra il vinile.13. Collocare ogni sfondo azzurro su una superficie piana, posizionare la
sovrapposizione sopra, allineando i bordi.14. Se si utilizzano i Cerchi Perfetti, preparare i cerchi. ( Vedere "
Due metodi " nel box con i dettagli).APPLIQUE' I BLOCCHI
15. Applica tutte le foglie al proprio sfondo.
16. Stendere tutti i blocchi su una superficie piana e disporli in modo piacevole. Ho disposto i miei in
colonne verticali in base al colore.
17. Posizionare e fissare con gli spilli i cerchi al centro delle foglie su ogni blocco e appliqué . Assemblare la
parte superiore del quilt.
18. Cucire ogni colonna verticale di cinque blocchi A insieme lasciando 0,6 cm di margine (vedi schema 1).
Stirare in modo che la cucitura rimanga aperta ( questo elimina ingombri eccessivi sul lato della cucitura).
19. Posizionare e appliquè i cerchi che cadono sopra le giunture tra i blocchi (vedi schema 2).
20. Cucire le 5 colonne verticali insieme.
21. Creare i bordi: Appuntare con gli spilli e cucire insieme i pezzi B, C e D. Stirare in modo che le cuciture
rimangano aperte. Fare due di ciascuna di queste unità.
22. Allineare le cuciture corrispondenti e appuntare le unità C e D ai lati, sia a sinistra, che a destra. Vedere
lo schema 4. Cucire insieme con un punto da 0,60 cm di cucitura. Stirare le cuciture aperte.
23. Allineare le cuciture, fermare con i spilli sia la parte superiore che quella inferiore, le unità B, C e D.
Vedere lo schema 5. Cucire insieme, utilizzando 0,60 cm di cucitura. Stirare le cuciture aperte.

24. Posizionare e appliqué i 10 cerchi che andranno sulle cuciture tra i blocchi e i bordi.(Vedere schema 6).
25. Stirare la parte superiore del quilt. Imbastire e trapuntare.
26. Stratificare il tessuto dello sfondo, l'imbottitura ed il quilt superiore e fissarli con gli spilli o imbastirli.
27. Cucire a mano o macchina. Io ho usato il filo in cotone Aurifil Mako 28 grigio verde per il quilt a
macchina intorno ai pezzi con le applicazioni ed ho fatto dei disegni di foglie sullo sfondo. Ricordate di far
coincidere l'ago al peso del filo. Io ho usato un'impuntura 80/12 dell'ago, per un filo di 28 di peso.
28. Unire le strisce larghe 6,35 cm con una doppia cucitura continua. Piegare le strisce per la loro lunghezza
e stirare. Utilizzare queste strisce per il bordo del quilt. (Consultare un testo generico, se per voi questo è il
primo quilt che fate.)
DUE METODI PER APPLICARE I CERCHI A MANO.
METODO 1 : Ago curvo tradizionale.
Con un gesso ( a me piace quello con il porta-mine), tracciare i cerchi, lasciando 0,5 cm di margine di
cucitura intorno a ciascuno. Tagliare al di fuori includendo questo margine di cucitura. Posizionare i cerchi
sotto la sovrapposizione , fissare con gli spilli e fare l'appliqué.
METODO 2 : Utilizzare i Cerchi Perfetti.
Se si utilizzano questi cerchi, non è necessario tracciare i contorni delle bacche. Basta semplicemente
tracciare il modello, per il metodo dei Cerchi Perfetti ( sulla pagina dei modelli) sul tessuto e tagliare i
cerchi. Seguire le indicazioni sulla confezione per preparare i cerchi, fissarli con gli spilli ai sfondi e cucire.
Il tempo necessario per preparare i cerchi in questo modo è costituito dal fatto, che ci vuole molto meno
tempo per il loro appliqué e, che saranno perfettamente rotondi.

Please read all the directions
before you start!
Cut the fabric pieces
1. From the solid light blue fabric,
cut 25 A squares 6-1/2" x 6-1/2"
for the block backgrounds.
2. From the solid light blue fabric,
cut 4 B squares 4-1/2" x 4-1/2" for
the border corners.
3. From the solid medium blue
fabric, cut 12 C rectangles 6-1/2" x
4-1/2" for the border.
4. From the solid light blue fabric,
cut 8 D rectangles 6-1/2" x 4-1/2"
for the border.
Cut the appliqué pieces
If you are doing fusible applique:
Trace the shapes onto fusible adhesive, iron them to the wrong side of
the fabric, and cut them out on the
line.
If you are doing traditional needleturn appliqué:
Use the template on the pattern page with the 3/16”
seam allowance. See “Two methods” box.
If you are using Perfect Circles for the circles:
Trace the 2” diameter circles on the pattern page, and
cut them out on the line. See “Two methods” box.
5. From each of the three yellow fabrics, trace and
cut 6 E circles.
6. Trace and cut 6 E circles from the lightest pink,
5 from the light pink, 6 from the pink, 5 from the
medium pink, and 5 from the dark pink.
7. From each of the two orange fabrics, trace and
cut 5 E circles.
8. From each of the 25 green fabrics, trace and
cut 4 F leaves. If you are doing hand appliqué,
remember to leave a seam allowance.
9. Cut backing fabric 42" x 42".
10. Cut batting 41" x 41".
11. Cut binding strips 2-1/2” wide; piece them
together so they are about 162” long.

Prepare to appliqué
12. Make the positioning overlay: Place appliqué block pattern on a light box or brightly lit
window. Position upholstery vinyl on top. Use a
permanent black fine-tip marker to trace the applique design onto the upholstery vinyl.
13. Place each light blue background on a flat
surface, and place the overlay on top, aligning the
edges. Position each set of green leaves, and pin
them in place.
14. If you are using Perfect Circles, prepare the
circles. (See “Two methods” box for details.)
Appliqué the blocks
15. Appliqué all the leaves to their backgrounds.
16. Spread out all the blocks on a flat surface and
arrange them in a pleasing manner. I arranged
mine in vertical columns according to color.
17. Position and pin the circles at the center of
the leaves on each block, and appliqué them.
Assemble the quilt top
18. Sew each vertical column of five A blocks together using a 1/4" seam. (See diagram 1.) Press
seams open (this eliminates excessive bulk on one
side of the seam).

19. Position and appliqué the circles that fall on
the seams between the blocks (see diagram 2).
(Do the other circles after sewing on the border.)
20. Sew the five vertical columns together.
21. Make the borders: Pin and sew together B, C
and D pieces (see diagram 3), using a 1/4" seam
allowance. Press seams open. Make two of each of
these units.
Two methods for making
hand appliquéd circles
METHOD 1 – Traditional needleturn
Using a chalk marker (I like mechanical pencil
type), trace the circles, leaving a 3/16" seam allowance around each. Cut them out, including
this seam allowance. Position the circles under
the overlay, pin, and appliqué in place.
METHOD 2 – Use Perfect Circles
If you use these mylar circles, you do not need
to trace the outlines of the berries. Simply trace
the template for the Perfect Circles method (on
the pattern page) onto the fabric, and cut out
the circles. Then follow the directions on the
package to prepare the circles, pin them to the
backgrounds and stitch them down. The time it
takes to prepare the circles this way is made up
because it takes far less time to appliqué them,
and they truly will be perfectly round.

22. Align, matching seams, and pin the C-D units
to the left and right sides. See diagram 4. Stitch
together using a 1/4" seam. Press seams open.
23. Align, matching seams, and pin the B-C-D
units to the top and bottom. See diagram 5.
Stitch together using a 1/4" seam. Press seams
open.
24. Position and appliqué the 10 circles that fall
on the seams between the blocks and the border.
See diagram 6.
25. Press the whole quilt top.

Baste and quilt
26. Layer the backing fabric, batting and quilt top
and pin or thread baste.
27. Hand or machine quilt. I used Aurifil Cotton
Mako 28 teal thread to machine quilt around the
appliqué pieces, and did an overall leaf design in
the background. Remember to match your needle
to your thread weight. I used a 80/12 topstitch
needle for the 28-weight thread.
Bind and finish the quilt
28. Join the 2-1/2"-wide strips into one continuous piece for a double straight-grain binding. Fold
strips in half lengthwise and press. Use this strip to
bind your quilt. (Consult a general quilting text if
this is your first quilt).
