Christ Foretold
In Genesis, Melchizedek is described as a king who is also a
priest. As this story is usually interpreted, Melchizedek’s action of bringing out bread and wine and blessing it with praise
to the Creator is a prophetic action. Seen as a prefigurement of
the action of Jesus, he foretells to Abram the One who is to
come, the Messiah. The psalm echoes this theme in the time of
David the King. King David praises and thanks God. He proclaims the preexistence of the Christ, who is given princely
power from “the day of your birth, in holy splendor” (Psalm
110:3). God has promised this to David and his descendants
forever and God will never go back on this promise.

Rest in Peace
With confidence, O Lord, we ask that eternal rest be granted
to John Joseph (Joe) Brandlin and Genevieve Denny. Let
the perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the
souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in
peace. Amen.

Possible Indicators of Child Abuse & Neglect
A key to reporting child abuse and neglect is being able to
recognize common indicators. In a parent, the following signs
may signal the presence of child abuse or neglect: Shows little
concern for the child. Blames the child for the child’s problems in school or at home. Asks teachers or other caretakers to
use harsh physical discipline if the child misbehaves. Sees the
child as entirely bad, worthless or burdensome. To learn more
about child abuse prevention (www.archdiocese.la/
