The poetry of Branwell Brontë
This seminar presents a stimulating new work on the least known and
most enigmatic of the talented Brontë family. It offers a translation of
Branwell’s most romantic poems, as well the first part of Daphne du
Maurier’s important re-appraisal of his figure in the
biography, The
infernal world of Branwell Brontë (1960), which highlights his artistic
prowess rather than his failings and failures. Language: Italian.
Silvio Raffo, poet, writer and translator.

Ballads in the classroom
Music and singing are by now well-integrated features of the TEFL
classroom. This seminar will show how ballads in particular can be
exploited on countless levels, as moments of relaxation and bonding.
They can also be put to good use for ear training, as with cadence,
intonation and accentuation. There will be a live performance of some
well-known British ballads, to the accompaniment of the guitar.
Giordano Dall’Armellina, author, musician and singer.

An overview of school exams in the UK
This seminar will explain some of the exams that teenagers do at school
in the UK especially at the many prestigious boarding schools located
around the country. There will be a chance to meet representatives of
six top schools and hear about the benefits of attending them even for
just the last two years of full-time education.
Sir Winston Churchill, 1874-1965
This seminar is offered as a dual commemoration, of the 50 th
anniversary of the death of Winston Churchill and the 75 th anniversary
of his brainchild , the Battle of Britain, which held off the German air
attacks and put pay to “Operation Sea Lion”, the much feared Nazi
invasion of the British Isles. The seminar will trace the figure of Churchill
as a prime player on the British and international stages through the fifty
or so years of his political life.
Patricia Kennan, Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca, translator
