Lampada da tavolo: sintesi visionaria di materia, d’ombra e di luce
“L’impero delle luci”, ovvero, la luce e il suo potere. In altre parole, Magritte e le sue
atmosfere oniriche. Tra ombre e riflessi, oscurità e improvvisi bagliori: suggestioni luminose
al limite del surreale. La genialità visionaria dell’artista francese come impronta iniziale per
il nostro racconto di Woodspot, il nuovo progetto ideato da Alessandro Zambelli per Seletti,
una delle anteprime dell’azienda mantovana alla prossima edizione di Maison et Objet, in
programma dal 5 al 9 settembre 2014.
Nel nuovo progetto del designer - una lampada da tavolo interamente assemblata e
verniciata manualmente, in cui ad un supporto in fusione si innesta una base e un diffusore
di luce realizzati in abete naturale, quest’ultimo declinabile nelle tonalità bianco avorio, rosa
cipria e verde acqua - la forza espressiva del legno ispira un racconto visionario di materia,
d’ombra e di luce. Surreale, evocativo e quasi onirico.
In Woodspot una base inclinata, del tutto simile a un piedistallo portafoto, sorregge un
diffusore di luce che riproduce l’effetto inatteso di una cornice tridimensionale proiettata al
limite dell’irrealtà. Il profilo particolarissimo dell’oggetto si staglia deciso e impone la sua
forma iconica nello spazio, mentre il fascio di luce che ne scaturisce alleggerisce la forza
materica del legno e avvolge il buio di un bagliore caldo e compatto. Quasi un’apparizione
immaginaria, eppure fortemente ancorata alla realtà e alla materia per eccellenza.
Al tempo stesso evocativo e concreto, astratto e iconico, arcano e futuribile, sospeso tra
mondi arcaici onirici e orizzonti visionari ipermoderni, Woodspot racchiude in sé rigore
progettuale e libertà espressiva oltre i limiti convenzionali: affinità elettive inedite, in un
dialogo inaspettato e continuo.
Al di fuori di ogni schema, il nuovo progetto di Alessandro Zambelli è il racconto di un
oggetto inatteso. Che al tempo stesso sorprende, affascina e ammalia, perché nasconde in sé
qualcosa di misterioso: la sintesi visionaria di materia, d’ombra e di luce sfuma i confini di
tutte le cose per ricomporle - come nel dipinto di Magritte - secondo regole diverse, al di là di
ogni convenzione. Per un ideale di bellezza nuovo e inconsueto.
Woodspot misura 22cmL x 44H e 23P; interamente realizzata in abete naturale, assemblata
e verniciata manualmente, supporta sorgenti luminose max 60W.
Table Lamp: visionary synthesis of material, light and shade
“The Empire of Light” is all about light and its power. Shadows and reflections, darkness and
sudden flashes stretch the imagination to its most surreal limit. Magritte’s visionary genius also
offers the starting point for our latest design story. Alessandro Zambelli has conceived
“Woodspot” for Mantua-based furnisher Seletti. The item is one of the previews of the Mantuabased company’s presence at the next edition of Maison et Objet, scheduled for 5 to 9 September
2014.
Zambelli’s new work is a table lamp assembled and varnished entirely by hand. Joined to the
moulded support are a base and a light diffuser, both in pine with a natural finish. The diffuser
itself is available in ivory white, flesh pink or pastel green. The base rests at an angle, like the
prop of a photo frame. It supports a light diffuser with the unexpected look of a threedimensional frame, projected to the boundary of unreality. The object’s highly unusual profile
stands out. This is an iconic shape, which imposes itself on space. The emerging beam lightens
the solid materiality of the wood and casts a warm and compact pool of light in the
surrounding darkness. It may seem a figment of the imagination, yet it remains firmly anchored
in a quintessentially material reality.
There is nothing schematic about Alessandro Zambelli’s new design, for this is a tale of the
unexpected. Woodspot simultaneously surprises, fascinates and enchants, because it conceals
something mysterious within itself. This visionary synthesis of material, light and shade blurs
the boundaries of everything. Like the Magritte painting, it is a recomposition by different rules
which sidestep convention. The result is a new and unusual ideal of beauty.
Woodspot is 22 cm long, 44 cm high and 23 cm deep. The lamp fitting is suitable for light
sources of up to
60W.

Comò in legno e metallo, caratterizzato da una struttura volutamente riconducente alle casse
per spedizioni, decorato con adesivi e timbri classici dei trasporti, volutamente a effetto
usurato. È impreziosito da piedini barocchi.
“Gli oggetti che riconosciamo sono gli oggetti che possono raccontarci una storia.
Le casse e gli imballaggi ci piacciono perché fanno pensare al viaggio di un contenuto
prezioso che qualcuno spedisce e qualcun’altro riceve, è come vedere un pacco regalo, più
eccitante che l’oggetto che contiene. Mi diverte pensare che dopo una lunga spedizione la
cassa ,stanca di viaggiare, decida di fermarsi a casa nostra. Per questo ho aggiunto le gambe

A line of furniture in wood and metal characterized by a structure consciously attributed to the shipping
crates, decorated with stickers and classical transport stamps and intentionally worn. They are
embellished with baroque legs.
"The objects that we recognize are those that can tell a story. We like boxes and packaging because they
make us think about the journey of a precious content that someone sends and someone else receives.
They are like gift bags, more exciting than the object they contain. It amuses me to think that, after a long
expedition, the cash, tired of traveling, decides to stop at our house. This is the reason why I added

Linea di complementi d’arredo in acciaio verniciato nelle tonalità pastello del crema, rosa
cipria, verde muschio e finiture in ottone, declinata in 5 pezzi: cassettiera, armadio a 2 ante,

In WIRE materiali metallici a contrasto - combinati insieme - portano alla luce inaspettati
effetti decorativi: superfici opache dalla linearità essenziale rivelano lucenti intarsi
geometrici, minimali e, al tempo stesso, fortemente ornamentali. Linee lievi - quasi ridotte ai
minimi termini, eppure elaborate come ricami - attraversano così l’intera facciata degli
oggetti, per ricomporsi in perfette geometrie e svelare scintillanti riflessi dorati. Bagliori di
luce creati ad arte per superfici dal sorprendente effetto 3D.
Proprio al centro degli oggetti, ecco apparire un dettaglio giocoso, in bilico tra estro, ironia e
funzionalità. Il filo di ottone che ritma la parte frontale dei complementi si trasforma così in
una chiave dalla funzione quasi surreale: accantonata l’abituale mansione, si rivela parte
integrante della struttura per tramutarsi a sorpresa in una scenografica chiave/maniglia.

joint project: Palais Stoclet in Bruxell . Observing its architecture, its spaces, its furniture - their
essential linearity and yet highly decorative, their ornamental geometric patterns, almost
minimalist elegance - and thinking that this collection could feel at ease here, in the absolute
masterpiece of the European Art Nouveau.

In WIRE contrasting metallic materials - combined together - bring unexpected decorative
effects to light: matte surfaces of essential linearity reveal bright geometric inlays, which are
minimal but at the same time highly ornamental. Soft lines - almost reduced to a minimum, and
yet processed as embroidery - go through the entire facade of objects, to recompose in perfect
geometries and to reveal sparkling golden reflections. Flashes of light created on purtpose for
surfaces with an amazing 3D effect.
Right in the center of the objects a playful detail is revealed, in a limbo between creativity,
humor and functionality. The brass wire that gives rhythm to the front of the complements is
thus transformed into a key which has an almost surreal function: it is discovered to be an
integral part of the structure that is spectacularly transformed into a key/handle.

MACHINE COLLECTION, le “macchinazioni” che stanno dietro questa collezione da tavola sono chiare fin da subito.
Una interpretazione in fine ceramica di meccanismi e ingranaggi, con bordi dentati e finiture in bianco industriale. La
collezione prende ispirazione dall’immaginario globale della meccanica e comprende piatti e ciotole, posateria,

Humor nero intinto in colori pastello: dall’incontro tra Seletti, azienda italiana di design, e Toiletpaper, il
magazine di sole immagini di Maurizio Cattelan e Pierpaolo Ferrari e Seletti, azienda italiana di design.,
nasce un’inconsueta e singolare collezione di piatti, tazze e tovaglie, asciughini, saponette e adesivi.
Il 2014 segna l’introduzione dei nuovi articoli, le ciotole, i bicchieri, il piatto da portata, la teiera e
l’ombrello, che saranno presentati alle fiere di Settembre.
Una selezione di immagini tratte dalla rivista diventano il motivo decorativo della collezione di design
Toiletpaper-Seletti: lo sturalavandino, un cavallo rampante, le dita mozzate (già in mostra sul billboard
della High Line a Manhattan) e un’interpretazione pulp del celebre “I love you” decorano tazze e bicchieri;
un pesce ripieno di pietre preziose e una tavola imbandita popolata di ospiti “inattesi” giganteggiano sulle
tovaglie. Latta e cerata, i materiali della collezione Toiletpaper-Seletti, sono perfettamente in linea con lo

Cattelan’s and Pierpaolo Ferrari’s magazine
Black humor dipped in pastel colors: born out of the meeting between Seletti, Italian design company, and
Toiletpaper, Maurizio Cattelan’s and Pierpaolo Ferrari’s image-only magazine and the Italian design
company Seletti an unusual and exceptional collection of plates, mugs and tablecloths, teatowel, soaps
and stickers.
The new2014 collection will be: bowls, metal glasses, serving dishes and the teapot.
A selection of images from the magazine become the decorative motif of the Toiletpaper-Seletti design
collection: mugs and glasses are decorated with a kitchen plunger, a rampant horse, the severed fingers
(already on display on Manhattan’s High Line billboard) and a pulp interpretation of the famous “I love
you”; a fish full of precious gems and a table set with “unexpected” guests are the images towering over
the tablecloths.
Tin and oilcloth are the materials used in the Toiletpaper-Seletti collection, and they are perfectly aligned
with the pop spirit of the magazine: cheap and widespread, never sectional.
From the well renown collection “Estetico Quotidiano” born ten years ago to “Hybrid”, where Chinese and
English traditional images of porcelain were melted into single objects, Seletti has kept surprising and
astounding each time. “I’ve been a Toiletpaper fan since its first issue, and I immediately wished to use
those marvelous images for our products” – declares Stefano Seletti, owner and art director. “I kept
thinking about how to get those photographs into our customers’ homes. It only took one meeting for
Maurizio, Pierpaolo and me to be in tune with each other and to share the idea to couple democratic and
familiar materials like tin and plastic with decisively unexpected images”.
“Right from the start we liked the idea that Toiletpaper was a label that could be applied to a broad series
of objects: magazines, books, plates, mugs and tablecloths. Pierpaolo and I are like sadistic scientists:
everything that’s around us can be infected by the TP virus, we continually test different samples and we
analyze the results, so that Toiletpaper can become a style, and not just a photographic one”, says
Maurizio Cattelan. “Just like Toiletpaper’s images, the collection designed with Seletti has a vintage
charme; the tin mugs and plates look like they were just taken out from a Fifties’ kitchen pantry, the
oilcloths from the drawers of a suburban inn”.
“We often have fun by making our pictures become objects, clothes, accessories” – says Pierpaolo Ferrari.
“Toiletpaper’s images can become both a bathing suit and a Formula 1 car. The important thing is not to
betray the spirit and nature of the magazine, which is ironic and unsettling at the same time. Today,
thanks to Seletti, some images have become real objects, and we hope they will be a success”.
PHRENOLOGY BUST

Dalla passione per la grafica e dal fascino dell’800 nascono le illustrazioni di Lorenzo Petrantoni,
realizzate con immagini tratte da vecchi manuali e dizionari dell’epoca, scovati nel suo girovagare tra i
bouquiniste. Sono Illustrazioni inconfondibili con le quali l’artista ridà vita a parole, avvenimenti e
personaggi altrimenti dimenticati.
“Per Phrenology Il mio desiderio è stato quello di recuperare un'oggetto ormai abbandonato e cercare
con la mia personale grafica di ridagli nuova vita. Esattamente quello che faccio nel mio lavoro, recupero
immagini del passato completamente abbandonate e seguendo regole estetiche molto personali cerco di
ridare una nuova identità contemporanea.” ( Cit. L.P.)
Oltre alla parte grafica, nella parte posteriore l’artista racconta lo studio della frenologia, per rendere
comprensibili a tutti i frammenti della nostra storia.
Lorenzo Petrantoni's illustrations, made with images taken from old textbooks and
dictionaries of the time, were born from the passion for graphics and the charm of the ‘800
and made with images taken from old textbooks and dictionaries of the time swept up in his
wanderings among the booksellers. The unmistakable Illustrations with which he gives
life to words, events and people would be otherwise forgotten.
"With Phrenology my desire was to recover an object that had been abandoned, and try to give
it a new life with my personal graphics. This is exactly what I do in my work: I seek images from
the past that had been completely abandoned, and try to give them a contemporary identity,

In addition to the graphics, in the back of the bust the artist tells his study of phrenology, to
make everyone understand the fragments of our history.

BUGIA E LANTERNA
Design: Antonio Aricò
Il concept di Bugia & Lanterna deriva da una magica conversazione tra Antonio Aricò e Stefano Seletti. Il
concetto è un gioco sull’ archetipo retrò del portacandela "bugia", utilizzato in passato su una scrivania o
un tavolo per produrre una luce naturale e morbida. Il mix tra un porta candela classico e una lanterna
tradizionale rende questo prodotto sorprendente. La candela è protetta da un vetro, ed è possibile
utilizzare Bugia & Lanterna all’aperto al buio per una romantica cena di lusso.

The concept of the Bugia & Lanterna came from a magical conversation between Antonio Aricò
and Stefano Seletti. The concept is a play on the retro archetype of the “bugia” candle-holder, used in the
past on a desk or table to produce a natural and soft light. The mix between a classic candle holder and a
traditional lantern creates this surprising product. Protected by glass, you can use Bugia & Lanterna
outside in the dark for a romantic, luxurious dinner.

Simile ad un souvenir, memorabilia (da, per memorabile) è un oggetto custodito nella memoria; tuttavia,
a differenza del souvenir, memorabilia ha valenza di connessione tra un evento storico, culturale o
d’intrattenimento. Lo Skatebord è realizzato in fine porcellana Bianca o dorata, riproduce uno dei giochi
tipici dell’infanzia-adolescenza degli anni ’80. Tutta la linea Memorabilia è contenuta in bellissime scatole
da regalo.

sfaccettature lavorate manualmente come un tempo. La lampadina reinterpretata come gioiello da
osservare, attraente gemma luminosa. CRYSTALED è un oggetto prezioso, solido, vivo, realizzato in puro
cristallo in tre differenti forme: sfera, cubo e diamante, e tre le varianti colori: trasparente, ambra e blu. Al
suo interno, “incastonato” un LED di ultima generazione da 3w di potenza.
Utilizzabile come una semplice lampadina, grazie all'attacco E27, o come lampada, sarà possibile sostituire
il bulbo una volta esaurito.

'Una lampadina scultorea il cui progetto è destinato a rispecchiare il senso di libertà, fluidità e movimento
catturato dalle lampadine a incandescenza di Thomas Edison. Ispirato geometricamente da spirale aurea
di Fibonacci, compie improvvise torsioni ponendo nuove domande per lo spettatore. È questo gesto che
trasforma il normale in sublime. L'utilizzo del vetro accentua la sua fluidità e cattura i riflessi dell'ambiente
circostante che lo rende interessante sia da accesa che da spenta. “Una lampadina LED a basso consumo
sostituibile rende anche più 'light' l'ambiente, un'altra caratteristica importante per me”.
'A sculptural glass light whose design is intended to mirror the sense of freedom, fluidity and movement
captured by the Thomas Edison exposed-filament bulbs. Inspired geometrically by Fibonacci’s golden
spiral, it has an additional Twist where it suddenly turns in on itself posing new questions to the viewer. It
is this gest that transforms it from the normal to the sublime. The use of glass accentuates its fluidity
capturing reflections from the surroundings making it as interesting turned on or off. A replaceable low
energy LED bulb also makes it ‘light’ on the Environment another important feature for me.'

La sua particolare lavorazione effetto legno, esaltando ogni minimo dettaglio della texture,
conferisce leggerezza a questo materiale abitualmente architettonico. In virtù di un cambio
di prospettiva, Cemento diviene Memento, ossia ricordo, capace di fissare indelebilmente il
tempo presente e futuro, come post-it dell'esistente e del divenire.
Memento, the clock by Alessandro Zambelli, plays both with words and substance. The special
wooden style manufacturing exalts every detail of the surface texture and is the element that
gives lightness to the concrete, usually an architectural material. It is then by virtue of a change
of perspective that Cemento, the Italian expression for concrete, becomes Memento, memory in
Latin. Through the movement of its interchangeable fluo and copper hands, Memento is able to
indelibly fix present and future, as a witness of the existing and the becoming.

Collezione di mobili contenitori in griglia di tondino di ferro e lamiera di ferro verniciata.
I mobili all'interno sono dotati di mensole in vetro, sorrette da ganci, liberamente posizionabili dall'utente
finale.
“Les Volieres” porta in scena negli interni domestici una struttura tipicamente da esterni, da giardino.
La permeabilità dell'involucro è l'altra caratteristica del progetto.
All'interno dei mobili possono trovare posto libri, piante-fiori, piccoli oggetti preziosi da mettere in
mostra, biancheria; la collocazione all'interno della casa è quindi estremamente libera.
Contenuto e contenitore dialogano in un gioco di trasparenze e texture creato dalla trama dell'involucro.
A collection of grid wire storage units made of iron rod and painted iron sheets.
The furnishings are internally equipped with freely adjustable glass shelves, supported by hooks.
"Les Volieres" brings a system typically dedicated to the exteriors, specifically to the garden, in a domestic
interior.
The other characteristic of the project is represented by the envelope permeability. The storage system can
fit books, flowering plants, linen or small valuables to be put on display. The placement within the house is
extremely free.

Rock-me ha le stesse curve della struttura originale ma solo quelle indispensabili a mantenere intatto il
ricordo del dondolo Vienna. Il tessuto tecnico 3D morbido e traforato contribuisce a creare un’immagine
nuova ma nello stesso tempo conosciuta.
