Preceptorship on MRI in multiple sclerosis
PRELIMINARY PROGRAMME
Preceptorship on MRI in
multiple sclerosis
Milan, Italy - 24-25 October 2013
Aim of the course
The goal of this activity is to educate physicians regarding the application
and the relevance of conventional and advanced magnetic resonance
imaging (MRI) techniques for the management of multiple sclerosis
(MS). Together with laboratory tests and neurophysiological studies, MRI
findings are central to make a diagnosis of MS, and it is even more
important in monitoring disease progression and assessing efficacy of
treatment in clinical trials as well as at an individual patient level.
Plenary lectures given by wordlwide known experts in the use of MRI in
MS. Guided tours at the Neuroimaging Research Unit and at the
Departments of Neuroradiology and Neurology will be provided to
participants in order to understand better the wide range of application
of MRI techniques in MS management.
Learning objectives
The main topics of the course will be focused on:
• MRI in the diagnosis of MS
• Application of structural and functional MRI techniques in the
understanding of MS pathophysiology and evolution
• Relevance of MRI studies in the evaluation of treatment response in
clinical practice and clinical trials
Target audience
Young clinicians and scientists currently involved in MS management
and radiologists interested in MS.
Accreditation
An application will be made to the EACCME® and to the Italian Ministry of
Health for the CME accreditation of the Serono Symposia International
Foundation “Preceptorship in MRI on multiple sclerosis” to be held in
Milan, Italy on 24-25 October 2013.

Serono Symposia International Foundation (SSIF) MS
Preceptorship conferences, aim to update young physicians
about the very latest developments from leading international
scientists and clinicians.
SSIF is seeking to capture their energy and enthusiasm by
creating an MS Alumni Program – a lasting community, which
will continue to share ideas and best practice well into the
future.
Three main European MS centres will be involved in the
program:
- Multiple Sclerosis Centre of Catalonia, Cem-cat
Barcelona, Spain
- Institute of Experimental Neurology
Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, Milan, Italy
- Valens Clinic Rehabilitation Center, Valens, Switzerland
Why is the Alumni Program so important?
The effective treatment of MS is one of the greatest of clinical
challenges. SSIF believes that young physicians need every
opportunity, now and in the future, to share their knowledge, to
keep up to date and to have access to internationally respected
mentors.
Be part of the MS Alumni Program!
You qualify to be an alumnus if you have attended one of the
SSIF's Preceptorships. Ask to be recontacted later on with
more news on this exiting opportunity!
The MS Alumni Program:
creating a community of
excellence
