Objectives
This agency was founded with the purpose of developing local growth programmes based on the specific vocations of the
territory, strengthening its capabilities and means. The information and communication aspect plays an increasingly central role in the supply of tourism and accommodation in terms of enhancing the territory, whether mass tourism or niche,
alongside a growing demand for ‘slow’ sustainable tourism that is aimed at promoting the use of natural, unspoilt spaces.

Thanks to the careful work of Andrea Vallini, we are able to provide one of these tools. A series of itineraries were surveyed, aimed at enhancing and strengthening local characteristics: these itineraries range from sports, culture, well-being,
trekking and the ‘slow’ trails. Furthermore, the guide also contains recommendations about typical food products, local
dishes, historic monuments, peculiarities, special amenities and restaurants as well as references to tourist guides and
associations.
The UNWTO (World Tourism Organisation) defines the tourist as a person that is at least 80 km from home for a recreational or learning purpose, thus with this tool we wish to give the user the opportunity to transform themselves into a
potential tourist coming to visit us, perhaps combining more than one offer, and then choosing to stay several days.
At the same time we want to give the municipal administrations the opportunity to understand and become fully aware of
their true potential, creating a distinctive image of quality and excellence.
The Territorial Agency for the Tourism of Valle Sabbia and Lake Idro would especially like to thank Andrea Vallini for
developing the idea, Ambra Marca for her valuable advice and Mattia Chiodi for developing multimedia aspects.

‘Experience Valle Sabbia’ aims to acquaint travellers with this unique territory, through themed itineraries that range from
history and culture (such as the imposing fortress Rocca d’Anfo) to tourism and the environment (Lake Idro and the high
peaks of Bagolino).
A substantial part is also dedicated to those areas that despite being “off the beaten track” are very much worth discovering.

parish church in Gavardo is also of great interest, along with
the thermal spas in Vallio (an area dedicated to wellness and
health situated in a large park), as well as the parish church
and fortress of Vobarno. The area of Serle is also noteworthy,
famous for the Cariadeghe plateau, where there are caving
routes which are unique in Italy (only suitable for experts).
The ancient monastery of San Bartolomeo can also be discovered within this territory, along comfortable routes whilst
enjoying the scenic views of Lake Garda.
Valle Sabbia is in the north eastern part of the province of
Brescia and is one of the three large valleys found in the
Brescia territory along with Val Trompia and Val Camonica.
The ‘Chiese’ river runs through the entire valley, to then form
Lake Idro. It is a long valley surrounded by side valleys and
wooded mountains.
The valley boasts a rich and diverse morphology, ranging from
the Chiese plain near Gavardo, passing through the Pre-Alps
of the low and middle valley, reaching the stretch of Lake Idro,
where the mountains gradually become more imposing, to
finally reach the mountains of Bagolino, where ‘Cornone di
Blumore’, the southernmost mountain of the Adamello chain,
dominates the landscape at an impressive altitude of 2800
metres.
There are just over 60,000 inhabitants scattered over an area of
700 km2 including 25 municipalities.
From an economic point of view, Valle Sabbia boasts a long
and consolidated industrial and handicraft tradition (iron, steel,
aluminium, mechanics),as well as selected quality farming (production of excellent cheeses, such as Bagòss from
Bagolino, delicious organic jams, chestnut honey and tasty
cold meats), and a well-established tradition of tourism (Lake
Idro, Bagolino and Vallio Terme).
In recent years, we have been introducing lesser known destinations to the world of tourism.
The territory can ideally be divided into three areas from south
to north.
The Middle Valley
Travelling northwards, the valley takes on a more mountainous character and the villages become smaller. Well preserved
natural areas and ancient villages are features shared in the
side valleys. The industrial and handicraft traits of the area are
particularly palpable in Odolo, Vestone and Casto. Also not to
be missed are the exceptionally preserved ‘Rocca di Sabbio’
(Sabbio fortress), and the adjoining ‘Museo della civiltà Contadina e dei Mestieri’ (The Museum of Farming Civilisation
and Crafts) in Sabbia Chiese and the ‘Museo del ferro - Fucina
di Pamparane’ (the Museum of Iron - Pamparane Forge) in
Odolo, testimony to the hard work and ingenuity of the industrialisation pioneers. The ancient church in San Lino in Agnosine and the parish churches in Bione, Preseglie and Provaglio
V.S. are also worth a visit.
In the nearby town of Casto it is possible to find a frescoed
parish church in Alone and a forge where you can discover
metal working techniques. Also in the area of Casto, you can
venture along fascinating sports and culture routes all found
in a natural setting (itineraries exploring ancient forges, cycle
paths, trekking and climbing routes). Furthermore, the parish
church in Mura, the ruins of the Nozza fortress with the adjoining Church of Santo Stefano as well as the ‘Museo del Lavoro’
(Museum of Labour) in Vestone are not to be missed. The territory of Pertiche is a world apart and which includes the municipalities of Pertica Alta and Pertica Bassa. Here, time seems
to stand still amongst the small villages, extensive meadows
and rural landscapes. The ancient Church of ‘Sant’Andrea di
Barbaine’ and the Forno Fusorio (smelting furnace) in Pertica
Alta are also worth visiting, as well as the ancient villages
The Lower Valley
The area closest to Lake Garda and the city of Brescia is also
the most urbanised. This part of the valley has been devoted to
large-scale industry for a long time and thus offers less ‘valley-like’ characteristics than the middle and upper valley. This
area is closely connected to nearby Lake Garda, bringing the
positive effect of a mild climate. The most important museum,
the ‘Archaeological Museum’ is found here, host to prehistoric
findings as well as artefacts dating back to the Roman age. The

it all. The natural pebble beaches are easily accessible; the
Vesta beach (Idro) is especially beautiful and scenic, a paradise of tranquillity with views of the fortress ‘Rocca d’Anfo’
in all its majesty. The beaches of Crone and Lemprato (Idro),
Anfo, Ponte Caffaro and Baitoni (hamlet in the Trentino municipality of Bondone) should also be enjoyed. In addition to
enjoying a traditional coast side holiday, here you can practice
various water sports as well as inland activities: sailing, windsurfing, cycling, trekking and climbing. A tour around the lake
by boat is also a highlight. The territory is full of trails and
walks, as well as churches such as Santa Maria in Undas and
San Michele in Idro, San Antonio in Anfo and San Giacamo in
Ponte Caffaro.
One of the most important Venetian and Napoleonic fortresses
in history guards the lake: the fortress ‘Rocca d’Anfo’, a must
for any visitor to Valle Sabbia. The ‘Forte di Valledrane’ in Treviso Bresciano and the ‘Forte di Cima Ora’ on the mountains
(such as Spessio di Avenone and Ono Degno), the churches
(such as San Zenone and the parish church of Levrange) and
an interesting museum dedicated to the resistance fighters
and folklore of Valle Sabbia (in Pertica Bassa).
The Upper Valley
In this area, the mountains become even more impressive and
the populous towns of the valley floor give way to the fresh
basin of Lake Idro (or Eridio), an area boasting a long tradition
of tourism. This beautiful stretch of water framed by a background of green mountains takes on typically Alpine features
compared to other lakes in Lombardy. Twelve kilometres long
and two kilometres wide, Lake Idro reaches a maximum depth
of 122 m.
It is 368 metres above sea level and is surrounded by wooded
mountains that exceed altitudes of 1000 metres and for this
reason it is considered the coolest lake in Lombardy. With
its dominating colours that range from the dark green of the
forests to the blue-green teal of the lake, you are immersed in an unspoilt environment, ideal
for those wanting to get away from
other large Brescia valleys within easy reach, Valle Sabbia still continues its past tradition of trading between the
different communities. The numerous streams and particularly the Chiese river have encouraged settlements since
ancient times: a clear example is the remains of the village
of the Rhaetian tribe on the hill of Castel Antico in Idro,
which was inhabited up until the 3rd Century AD, even after
the Romans conquered the territory.
It was actually the Romans who contributed to the formation of new settlements also in other areas of the valley;
small centres which witnessed a succession of historical
events, from the fall of the Roman Empire to the spread of
Christianity, up until the barbaric invasions.
The subsequent arrival of the Longobards and the Franks
changed the dynamics of the settlements over time, eventually linking the valley to the city.
Centuries later, the territory became dominion of the Republic of Venice; in this period some towns united in the
‘Communitas Vallis Sabiae’ and, in the fifteenth century,
the fortress ‘Rocca d’Anfo’ was built, which rose where the
state border was at the time.
Subsequently, the French took control of the territory,
marking a new age for the valley and leaving evidence
of their occupation such as the renovation of the fortress
commissioned by General François De Chasseloup-Lau
and ordered by Napoleon Bonaparte.
The historical events that followed, from the Unification
of Italy to the World Wars, also impacted these territories
and influenced the valley’s economy. Iron manufacture has
been one of the main activities to date: we find traces of
the first forges as early as in 1200, until excellence on a
national level has been reached since the Sixties.
Furthermore, textile centres arose in the municipalities
of Roè Volciano, Villanuova sul Clisi and Gavarda in the
second half of the nineteenth century, making use of the
abundance of water
of Anfo are also of great historic importance. In the stunning
area of Capovalle you can find a museum dedicated to relics
from the First World War and bask in the beauty protected of
the natural surroundings.
A few kilometres from the lake, in a narrow Alpine valley, you
find Bagolino. This town offers the churches of San Giorgio
and San Rocco, the Romanterra geological site and the ethnographic collection housed in the in the ‘Habitar in sta terra’
Museum. The nearby mountains offer opportunities for virtually all types of sport from walks, bicycle rides, horse-riding
in the summer, mountain, downhill and cross country skiing,
snowshoeing in the winter.
Some of the most important traditions and specialities of Valle
Sabbia were born within these mountains: the Bagolino Carnival (the famous and colourful festival of sixteenth century origin, known throughout Europe) and the prized cheese Bagòss.

 The route
The itinerary for the artistic and cultural heritage of Bagolino winds among the narrow streets and alleyways of the
historical centre. The departure point is from the ‘Pro
Loco’ at no. 7 Via San Giorgio, where you can find illustrated maps and more information. Facing the building we
will head right and after a few steps take a right down the
cobbled road of Via Portici, a former major road where the
medieval shops displayed their wares on large stones that
served as a counter. Leading on from here, we will pass
under a series of arches until, having reached the old bank
at number 9 almost at the end of the residential area, we
take the small street climbing up to the left, taking us back
onto via San Giorgio. We will head towards the Pro Loco on
the left and arrive in Piazza Consiglio, with its characteristic
octagonal fountain. We will continue along Via San Giorgio,
passing the Pro Loco and up the steps on Via IV Novembre
to the right. After a short while, we will pass the library and
take the steps up to the Church of San Giorgio. Just before
reaching it, the steps offer a view of the old military garrison, the ancient premises of the Bagolino military leaders,
as well as a beautiful fresco depicting the lion of St. Mark.
The outside of the parish church of San Giorgio is adorned
with an imposing gable façade, softened by a triple lancet
window and an elegant seven arch portico. The interior is
decorated in the baroque style and houses valuable works
 How to get there
From the A4 motorway (Milan-Venice) take the ‘Brescia est’ exit.
Continue along the SS45bis towards Madonna di Campiglio.
Once you reach Lake Idro, follow the road that runs along
the western shore of the basin. At the roundabout, follow
the directions to Bagolino. After a few kilometres you reach
the town and the car park just at its entrance. Following
Via San Giorgio, a ten-minute walk takes you to the town
centre.

With the church behind us, we cross the road, the public
gardens and a bridge which leads to the Church of Adamino. Along the way we will join the main road again and
after a short walk we arrive at the cemetery of the Napoleonic era, famous for its gothic chapels and wrought
iron crosses.
We then return to the centre, walking down right of the

by Tintoretto, Titian, Palma the younger and Andrea Celesti.
In the same square stands the Church of San
Lorenzo and opposite is the bulk of the original convent building, now a rest home, with
its small church host to one of the first works
of Tintoretto.
We go back down the steps, leaving the district of Osnà and entering the district of Cavril. At
the bottom of the steps we will take the right along
Via San Rocco. After a few hundred metres we arrive in
Piazza Marconi, the central square in Bagolino. From here
you can enjoy the beautiful view of the Osnà district and the
parish church of San Giorgio. We then continue along Via
San Rocco through to Piazzetta Marchiondi. On the right we
go up Via Pietro da Cemmo until number 51, after which
we turn right and continue until Via Chiusure. At this point
we see an old cobbler and on the left the ‘Procuratìe’, the
building that was once host to important figures who visited Bagolino. Still walking up-hill, after a while we find
‘Casa Torre’ on our left: a beautiful painted building, home
to the town hall in the Middle Ages. Turning left we arrive
in Piazza Mercato, where, on the corner of a house, we can
see two stone faces which could be effigies to the Lodron
Counts. We proceed along Via Divisione Tridentina, where
in the lower left corner we can see a stone depicting the
Goddess of Fertility, a legacy of the pagan culture. From
number 5 we walk through the alley and find the House
Museum called ‘Habitar in sta terra’, an unmissable
place to discover the most important traditions and local
customs and learn more about the history and culture of the
area. This interesting museum houses objects and documents belonging to the town of Bagolino mostly dating
back to the nineteenth century. The museum also houses
a loom that still works, as well as spinning and weaving
utensils and tools for working on the farm or grazing land.
Opposite the museum there is an alleyway that leads up to
Via Madonna di San Luca from where we will take the left
and continue for a few metres to the Church of San Rocco,
which preserves one of the most important fresco of the

The Bagolino Carnival
has ancient origins and is a must for visitors at least once in their lifetime. For the two
days of the Carnival, Monday and Tuesday, town life comes to a halt and the streets
are enlivened by groups of ‘màscher’ and ‘balarì’, accompanied by the melodies of
the musicians. The Màscher, wearing masks of old people, noisily wander the streets
playing tricks on anyone they meet. The Balarì wear a rich, colourful headdress and dance
elegantly. In 1970, the ethnologist Italo Sordi wrote: ‘there is no other choral and ritual music
phenomenon so unique and complete in Europe’. Still today, this is still an event lived and
shared by the entire population, one of the few representations of local culture linking the past to
the present.

entrance to the fortress is nearby.
 The place
The structure, made up of several batteries, trenches, covered roads, and barracks, is a military microcosm of great
interest. Built on a Longobard settlement, it became an
important outpost of the Republic of Venice between 1426
and 1797. This ‘Serenissima’ period was followed by the
French rule of Napoleon Bonaparte who personally ordered
the fortress to be modernised and restructured following
the creation of new warfare techniques.
Subsequent modifications carried out by the Austrians and
then by the Kingdom of Italy were of a smaller entity: in 1915,
with the annexation of Trentino to Italy, the fortress was no
longer a border outpost and gradually lost its strategic importance until it was eventually abandoned. The Fortress has been
open to the public since 2007, thanks to the intense recovery
work carried out by the ‘Gruppo Sentieri Attrezzati di Idro 95’.

Church of San Michele
THE ITINERARIES - 2
The choir stall and the sixteenth century crucifix are particularly
preciuos.
Leaving the church we will continue along the same road towards Crone where once in the village we see the Church of San
Rocco. The Church of San Rocco has 18th century style and
houses the precious ‘Deposizione con la Madonna’ (The Entombment with the Virgin Mary) holding the dead Jesus Christ
in her arms. The heart of the church is the Chapel of the Crucifix
dating back to the late 1500s.
Having visited the Church of San Rocco, head towards the beach
where the cycle path to the left leads back to the car-park in
Lemprato. Walk along via Lungolago Italia which takes you onto
via Bertini Roberto and continue along the street for a few hundred metres until it turns onto a bridge on your right going over
the river Pass through the narrow alleyway among the houses
and on reaching the crossing, turn right again. After a short walk,
opposite Hotel Milano, you can see the Church of Santa Maria
ad Undas.
The building can only be visited during Mass or upon booking
(for information contact the Territorial Agency of Tourism). The
architectural styles of the building overlap, with elements that date
back to between the 12th and 16th Century and a simple exterior,
decorated with just a terracotta cornice that runs along the roof
and a small rose window on the façade. It has a typically fifteenth
century interior, with a single nave structure, a gabled roof and interior space marked by large transverse arches in five bays. The
masonry shrine in the apse is also very interesting, dating back to
the 12th century and entirely decorated by frescoes.

 The place
The largest museum in Valle Sabbia offers a glimpse
into the history of Valle Sabbia, starting from the Palaeolithic Age up until the Middle Ages. The exhibition
consists of a wide selection of findings from the territory: from the skeleton of the ‘Ursus Spelaeus’ found in
the ‘Buco del Frate’ cave in Prevalle, to objects from
the prehistoric dwelling of Monte Covolo in Villanuova
sul Clisi.
Findings from the lake-dwelling in Lucone di Polpenazze
are also very important, now a UNESCO World Heritage
Site, including fragments of material and a pirogue, the
cast of which is still preserved.
Finally, there are also findings from the Roman Necropolis of Lugone in Salò including the rich grave trousseau and the famous figurative water flask. The museum
complex, found in a charming 15th Century building,
is made up of six exhibition rooms, a library with over
5000 books, a space for temporary exhibitions, a conference room and a classroom.
Educational workshops and guided tours are organised
on reservation.

Located along the Tovere river, on the valley floor of Pertica Alta, the Forno fusorio (smelting furnace) of Livemmo
was hidden from sight for 150 years until its rediscovery
in 1999. The furnace was already operational in the 16th
century and is particularly interesting because it is the only
smelting structure in the Brescia area to have preserved
its original appearance. From the plant, which ceased
production in 1848, you can see coal bunkers made from
numerous stone arches, the spaces intended for storing the
mineral and the blast furnace.

passing the ski slopes and cable cars in Gaver, continue
for 300 metres until you reach the bar ‘Bruffione’, where
you can park.
 The route
The proposed itinerary leads us on the discovery of a
mountous area of exceptional beauty. The first part of the
route is very simple along a bridle way. Once we pass the
Bruffione plain, it becomes a little more challenging
along a mountain path.
A few metres before the bar ‘Bruffione’, we take a dirt road,
cross the bridge over the Caffaro stream and continue
along the bridle way that leads to a valley covered in fir
trees. After about 30 minutes of walking, we pass between
the rocks and reach the Bruffione plain. To get to the lakes,
we leave the unpaved road and proceed along the ‘413’
trail which is signposted ‘Laghi Bruffione - Lago Cornelle’
in red and white. We cross a small bridge across the stream
and continue on the trail. From this point the trail becomes
a little steeper but not particularly challenging.
On the way we will pass a large wooded area, a creek and
a small meadow. Once we have reached an Alpine hut, a
little further on, the beautiful lakes of Bruffione emerge
on our right (1884 m above sea level). The return journey
follows the same route.

The upper road of Caffaro is a route that possesses all the
striking features of the Alps along its 80 km stretch. The
itinerary winds along the watershed that separates Valle

Garda to the perpetual snow of the Adamello and Brenta
Dolomite chains. For history lovers, the upper road of Caffaro covers a part of what was once the border between
Italy and Austria: the small barracks, the forts and trenches

THE ITINERARIES
Discover Capovalle, a tranquil municipality nestled in the
mountains of Upper Garda. The route is mostly on bridle
ways and, in the final part, on a path. The starting point is
the Museo Reperti Bellici (Museum of War Relics, not far
from the car park) where we can find interesting information about of the Great War.
From here, after visiting the museum and the nearby church
(opening hours available on the Town Hall website), we follow directions to ‘Monte Stino’. We continue along the side
of the mountain on a narrow surfaced road, the first stretch
of which is long and steep. As we climb, we can admire
the whole valley below as well as the mountains of Upper
Garda. We keep following this road through to the small
Church ‘degli Alpini’, standing on an extensive plateau.
At the bottom of the square, we follow signs to ‘Appostamenti artiglierie trincee e gallerie’ (Artillery emplacements,
trenches and tunnels), thus joining an unpaved road which
crosses the large plateau. Along the route, we turn right at
a crossroads, and explore the remains of a kitchen camp,
where the Capovalle women used to cook for the troops.

days we can see the peaks of the Brenta Dolomites and
‘Rocca d’Anfo’ in the distance. After less than a kilometre
we arrive in Crone, where, after the main road, we find the
ancient historical centre.
The Church of San Rocco with eighteenth century origins
is of particular interest (only viewable from the outside).
On the wall of the building there is a painting depicting a
boat with two fishermen. This boat, called a ‘Barchet’, was
used in the past for fishing and travelling across the lake.
Coming from the lake we move towards the entrance of the
church, into a pedestrian area (where we can buy typical local products such as Bagòss cheese), we take the right (Via
Medaglie d’oro) and continue straight on until we join the
road Via San Michele. We must cross this road with care
(there is no pedestrian crossing on this stretch), and walk a
few hundred metres along the road and then the pavement,
to reach the Church of San Michele.
The building hosts valuable wooden works such as the
magnificent ciborium.
Once we have visited the church, we continue along Via
San Michele. After 200 metres we turn right towards the
large car park near the swimming pool. Continuing straight
on towards the lake we will see that the car park joins the
cycle path we took at the beginning of the route. Taking the
left we carry on for a few hundred metres until we arrive

Sport in ‘Parco delle Fucine’
Casto is a unique area: just imagine a group of valleys
boasting beautiful landscapes that hide stunning canyons. An extensive area with a variety of sports facilities,
where you can discover forges used from the 1400s up
until the last century and where wooden sculptures are
on display.
The park is a huge leisure area. It has climbing walls, rockclimbing routes, Tibetan bridges (all difficult routes requiring equipment), zip lines and caves. One big open-air gym
to train, a beautiful adventure park to have fun.
For more information and hiring equipment, contact the
information point.
There are also attractive routes for experienced
climbers in the area - Ferrata Nasego (Very difficult): a new rock climbing route was built in 2011
with a difference in elevation of 420 metres, 800 metres
of rope and lasts about 3 hours. From the foot of Corna
di Savallo, we climb to the summit of Monte Nasego
near the large Cross. This route is extraordinary because
of the beauty of its rock faces as well as the view. On
clear days we can see Lake Garda, Carè Alto and even
Monte Rosa.

Tour of the treasures of Roè Volciano, a unique territory between Lake Garda and Valle Sabbia. The itinerary runs along
bridle ways and trails. Near the Church of Trobiolo, dating
back to the mid-15th Century, we take the road to Agneto.
At the first junction we turn left onto the dirt road, which leads
north among vineyards and olive groves, skirting the ‘Madonna del Rio’ valley. When we reach a fork in the road, we keep
left, and here the bridle way becomes steeper, ending after a
couple of hundred metres in Gazzane. At the crossroads we
turn right, continuing along the main road, from which we can
enjoy a beautiful view of the gulf of Salò.
We keep to the left at the junction and meet another crossroads after just a few metres: the road on the left is private,
whilst on the right there is a small path. We take this path,
surrounded by olive groves and orchards, passing the wooden gate on our right (used to prevent grazing animals escap-

CHEESE
There are many cheese producers in Valle Sabbia that follow
ancient dairy techniques. Artisans show real passion in their
production of excellent cheeses made from raw milk. For most
of the year the cattle feed on grass from the pastures and hay
obtained from mowed meadow grass. Undoubtedly, the most
famous of the local cheeses is Bagòss, the much sought after
and renowned cheese from Bagolino, famous throughout the
world and recognised for its exceptional quality. This cheese is
the result of an ancient technique that enhances the flavour of
mountain milk, Bagòss has a unique and consistent texture and
markedly yellow colour. A visit to Bagolino is the perfect opportunity to buy and taste this cheese in the local restaurants. However, do not forget the cheeses from the middle valley; lesser
known but equally tasty and authentic. The cow’s milk cheeses,
goat’s cheese and
‘robiola’ cheese
made from a
combination of
goat and cow’s
milk are also delicious.

TASTE AND STAY-3
PORK SALAMI
JAMS
Salami and other cold cuts are also a Valle Sabbia speciality: a local delicacy is ‘dos’, which is made from meat
previously soaked in brine with spices, wine, salt and a
pinch of chilli for a week. The ‘dos’ is then removed from
the brine, rubbed, salted and matured for 3 months. Once
ready, it guarantees greedy moments.
The delicious Pertica jams are
created from fruit grown at an
altitude of 1000 metres above
sea level. The fruit is picked at
the point of perfect ripeness
and is transformed immediately in the craft workshops,
with the addition of small
quantities of organic cane
sugar, organic honey or agave syrup. Everything is made without
the use of preservatives, colourings, flavourings or artificial gelatines. The jams made from raspberries, blackberries, blackcurrants, chestnuts and elderberries are particularly exquisite.

MUSHROOMS AND TRUFFLES
FRESH FRUIT
The growth of mushrooms in Valle Sabbia is favoured by
various factors such as the temperate cool climate, the
lime content of the soil and the extensive wooded areas.
A very special feature of the area is the presence of truffles: the ‘Magnum Pico’ and the prized ‘Alba’ truffle which
find the ideal conditions to grow in this territory. The ‘Tuber
Tuber melasporum’ is also exquisite; the black truffle that
grows in porous, well fissured, carbon-rich soil.

HONEY
The mountain area of Valle Sabba is birthplace to a real ‘delicacy’: multiflora honey (made with the nectar of wild and precious flowers such as the rhododendron, the small-leaved
lime or various meadow flowers). The honey is processed
strictly according to natural principles without the use of harmful products. The result is an exquisite and authentic product.

‘SPIEDO’
Pizzeria “Da Nicola”

Among the many specialities of Brescia and Valle Sabbia,
you cannot afford to miss out on the delicious ‘spiedo’, a
delicious variety of meat and potatoes cooked on a skewer
and served with polenta. The long preparation time (around
7 hours roasting) and the flavours released by the aromatic
herbs give the ‘spiedo’ its unique taste.
A delicious dish which must be tried together with a good
red wine.
There are many places in the area famous for their ‘spiedo’,
among which Serle, home to numerous restaurants specialised in preparing this delicious dish and the first municipality to cortify its ‘spiedo’.

 Useful advice and warnings
As some itineraries run through the mountains, it is important to follow a few simple guidelines:
• Always bring an adequate amount of water, a waterproof coat,
and comfortable footwear with a good grip on each excursion.
• Do not go on mountain walts in adverse weather conditions (storms, snow).
• Always have a mobile phone on hand to be able to call
for help in the event of an emergency.
• The number to call in an emergency is 118.
Remember that emergency services are for those who
are unable to return in safety.
