del mondo. Città di mare e di terra, con Genova ha molti aspetti in comune.

But its heart remains the same. Imaginative,
eccentric and creative, and not really one for
sticking to the rules.”
Barcelona’s unmistakeable light, which
ignites the contours of its monuments, and
its constant quest for innovation are highly
seductive. A city-laboratory that loves to
experiment, a melting pot, a longestablished meeting point for people from
all over the world. A city of land and sea,
which has a lot in common with Genoa.

di studiare a Barcellona, e poi di Fabio Volo,
che tre anni fa ha condotto per Mtv un programma in diretta dal suo appartamento sulle Ramblas. Per questo ho deciso dopo la laurea di vivere qui, dove gli affitti sono meno
cari che a Genova e le occasioni di lavoro più
numerose.
È una città dove i sogni si possono realizzare,
soprattutto quelli di noi giovani. Se hai voglia
di fare e possiedi un po’ di fantasia, le opportunità non mancano.
Meno burocrazia e più futuro. Gli italiani che
hanno scelto di vivere a Barcellona sono più
di 22mila, di cui quasi mille liguri. Un numero che ogni anno aumenta, costituito in gran
parte da under 30. Purtroppo vi sono anche
molti latitanti mafiosi perché Bar, come la
chiamiamo affettuosamente noi expat, accoglie tutti, ma proprio tutti”.
Barcelona la nueva è la locomotiva della Catalogna e della Spagna. Grazie al suo dinamismo imprenditoriale, al buon governo, alla pace sociale, borghese e socialista nello
stesso tempo, pragmatica, profondamente
permissiva e liberal, registra, nonostante l’attuale crisi economica, indici in ascesa. Spiega il sindaco Jordi Hereu, esponente del Psc,
che fa parte del Psoe, il partito socialista al
potere in Spagna: “A partire dalle Olimpiadi
del 1992 abbiamo risanato intere zone abbandonate e degradate, impegnando illustri

The new Barcelona is the link between
Catalonia and Spain. Thanks to its
entrepreneurial spirit, its strong government,
its social stability, both bourgeois and
socialist at the same time, and to its
pragmatic, deeply tolerant and liberal nature,
the city is achieving increasing indices,
despite the current economic crisis. Mayor
Jordi Hereu, representative of the PSC, a part
of PSOE (the Socialist party in power in

Entro breve tempo l’amministrazione cittadina vuole risolvere l’annoso problema del El
Raval, un “barrio prostituido que se hunde
cual Titanic en un mar de crimen y sexo en
las calles”, come ha scritto lo scrittore Javier

installed throughout the city, to cater to

This will represent a significant reduction in
both the use of petrol, and in CO2 emissions.”
The city hopes to soon resolve the age-old
problem of El Raval, “a prostitute’s

Luis Conde, 58 anni, ha sostituito Enric Puig
scomparso l’anno scorso. Si prevede la presenza di oltre 600 espositori di 19 paesi, 2000

600 exhibitors from 19 countries, 2000 crafts

l’immancabile bicchiere di cerveza, si intrecciano chiacchiere e commenti con scrittori e
giornalisti curiosi dell’Italia, molto chiacchierata dopo i piccanti scandali nostrani.

pronti a “sparare” le ultime malignità e battute sul el Señor Papi.
Sono in molti a sostenere che uno dei migliori ristoranti della città è Talaia, Calle Marina 16,

popular dishes at Buenas Migas, his chain of
nine focacceria restaurants scattered
throughout the business district and in the
busiest and trendiest parts of the city

For a gluttonous treat, go to Escribà (Rambla

www.escriba.es), a fine nineteenth century cake
shop with Liberty decor and mirrors. Extremely
feminine, both in the kitchen and behind it in
the small salon, with its round marble tables
and iron chairs, smiling young people prepare
and explain dishes and desserts based on the
city’s culinary traditions.
At 6p.m. offices close and the tapas bar ritual
begins. The best tapas, delicious chunks of
meat, fish, cheese and vegetables, can be
tasted a few metres from the Pedrera, at El
Mussol (Calle Casp 19, tel. 0034.933017610),
along with the compulsory glass of beer, of
course.
Many people claim that the best restaurant
in Barcelona is Talaia (Calle Marina 16, tel.
0034.932219090), which looks out over
Port Olímpic, with a panoramic glass door
which reveals the thousands sparkling lights
of the bay.
The Ferrer family has been a leader in the
catering sector for three generations. Their
success has led to the creation of the Gavina
Group, which includes two first class
restaurants in the Barcelona area: L’Arroz

cooked in as many different ways, including

A plethora of bars can be found on the streets
of La Ribera and El Raval. These districts are

found much of the cast for his film “All about
my mother” here.
Around 1a.m., many move on to La Luna Mora

futuristic designer night club with something
to suit all tastes, hosting rock groups, reggae
