4 5 OUR WINE: THE HISTORY OF A PASSION The “Zingarelli Rocca delle Macìe” Art Prize was created in memory of my father, Italo Zingarelli, who was a film-maker, producer and director, as well as founder of the Rocca delle Macìe winery, of which I am lucky enough today to be at the helm alongside my wife Daniela. A generous man and a lover of life, blessed with great intuition and farsightedness, Italo was a noble example of the self-made man. After a brief early career as a boxer, which saw him reach the final of the Italian Newcomers’ Championship in the middleweight and heavyweight classes, in 1949 he started working in films, initially as an extra and a stuntman, before going on to become a production technician and, from 1954 onwards, a production manager on numerous films. In 1958, he directed his first feature, The Warrior and the Slave Girl. Thanks to his determination and commitment, in 1964 he managed to set up his own production company and in 1966 he established the film distribution company DELTA, which oversaw a plethora of successful films, including They Call Me Trinity, Trinity Is Still My Name and All The Way, Boys, alongside internationally successful co-productions such as We All Loved Each Other So Much and How Funny Can Sex Be? It was in the early 1970s when my father felt the time had come to realize the dream that he had nurtured throughout his life: to open a winery in the heart of Tuscany. And so, in 1973, in contrast to all those who at the time were fleeing the countryside to work in the city, he purchased a rundown 14th-century borgo in Castellina in Chianti and set about painstakingly restoring the buildings, thus giving rise to the Rocca delle Macìe winery. My father, who always gave 100% to everything he was involved in, had the skill and the commitment to make his dreams come true. He was passionate about the arts in general, and was particularly enamored of painting. A man with a great aesthetic sense, he always chose paintings instinctively, driven by his pursuit of beauty more than by the renown of the painter. Over the course of his life, he always focused on those youngsters who, like him, were trying hard to turn their dreams into a reality. My father managed to infuse me, my brother Fabio and my sister Sandra with his great passion for Tuscany and for the art of winemaking, as well as with the desire and enthusiasm to continue writing the never-ending story that binds art to wine and to the life of man. Out of this passion came the intention of our family to launch this prize, with a view to offering young artists the opportunity to leverage their own talent and to marking out routes that may help them to make the most of their passion. 11 ON The Immortality of Wine SIMONA GAVIOLI Wine, perhaps even more so than food, embodies a symbolic code that is present in all the cultures of the Mediterranean Sea. It is a web of significations encapsulated in the religions, myths and rites that have contributed to the definition of mentalities, to the assumption of values and to practices of reification and behavior transmitted by art and literature throughout almost every age. Wine lives out its dual mythological essence by tracing the subtle line between vice and virtue, the earthly and the divine, the sacred and the profane; its ambivalent nature is a harmonic composition of flavors and a refined union of forms of knowledge; it is an alternation of emotions that explain why this nectar so beloved of the gods has always been the repository of a double meaning that ranges from creativity to debauchery, from wisdom to stupidity, and from fortune to danger. A lascivious and inebriating liquid, with a unique identity, capable of seducing more than any other beverage, in the West wine has played its part in establishing its own immortality through painting – and specifically, through that grand form of painting that renders wine legible but also foaming, elusive, ethereal, ungraspable and allusive. Faced with an overflowing glass of full-bodied fluid, or faced with a canvas, wine and art propose nothing but themselves, they afford themselves the luxury of appropriating for an instant the ecstasy and pleasure of escape, searching in the momentary disorder for the right of man to appeal to the divine and to abandon himself to the aesthetic experience. It should come as no surprise, then, that art and wine have come face-to-face so often during their history, because wine is not only matter and color, but also luminosity and metamorphosis, and because in the delirium of wine there is always the intimate dream of the sign ready to become painting. Through the painstaking, methodical research of the winemaker and the painter, reason is placed in opposition to natural entropy, clashing with the mysterious or Dionysian essence that refutes the rule of rationality. The presence of Dionysius, in his various aspects, appears ambivalent: a god of work, of the land, of order, but also a god of inebriation, of madness, of the frisky bacchanals. And yet this delirious condition becomes a symbol of fertility, or the origin of that marvelous thing called “theatre”, in ancient times, and today called “spectacle” and “show”. If there is a link between Dionysius and human society, it is art that holds the key to throw open the doors and reveal it. Today, art and wine have a material, physical, visual and imaginative nature that is able to pre-announce the interior dimension, at one time called “magic” and now called “language” and “communication”. As such, artists must know how to interpret – they already live it – the myth and the inebriation, through a vision that becomes graspable only on canvas. The first Zingarelli Rocca delle Macìe Painting Prize is dedicated to the passion for wine, and once again, after centuries, artists are re-tracing and re-interpreting this theme –one that very much excites our Western culture. The competition entries encompass a thousand different aspects that have as their only common denominator the primordial passion for impressing onto the canvas the effect that wine has on our perceptions. The artistic experiences submitted, with each painter using his or her different techniques and forms of expertise, represent unique works. In the diversity of the approaches to the theme “Our wine, history of a passion” we enter into an immense universe where painting is multifaceted and wide-ranging, where oil and acrylic demonstrate light and perfection in present-day girls or in sublime examples of Dionysius, taking in both those who express themselves digitally and those who use a needle and thread to evoke impassioned kisses and embraces. So, in this long relationship between art and wine, painting has now become everything: oil, acrylic, pencil, acetate, paper, thread, digital, scratch or fire, but also mapping, stratification, technology and precision. Here, painting is that everything, that panacea, with what it takes to make wine immortal. 12 13 Alice Andreoli expresses herself with the pictorial purity of acrylic, depicting a young woman seen from behind with a large tattoo on her back and neck. The image, made up of two icons, is a synergy, a strong marker of recognition and of belonging, intended to bring out the idea of a generational continuity that no longer sees tattoos as a sign of moral dereliction, but rather as a logo of the free style in the expressiveness of symbology. Ermes Bichi takes a different approach, using the symbology of wine throughout history to analyze its status in terms of its primordial form and its very nature. Observing vineyards, he focuses on the hanging of the bunches (the result of human artifice): the bunches, encircled by light, are like light presences in a casual repetition suspended in a history at once past and present. The link that one perceives from Fabio Borrelli’s representation of the visible/non-visible is a subtle one. He creates a complex, interwoven universe where the figure of the young boy emerges in order to rediscover the profundity of the soul in the labyrinthine space of the painting. The boy at the top seems to have lost the guidance of his thoughts – to jump or not to jump, to enter or exit, wine or not wine…who knows? Broadening his obsessive passion for the dark, Simone Fazio paints the moon. Rather than a romantic moon, his is the brightening soul of the night, mixing its light with the luminosity of wine, making the passage of time less weighty. For Fazio, the moon and wine are closely related, and they both live a double life – day/night, order/ disorder, earthly/divine. The artist uses these oppositions to construct an imaginary, illuminating path through life and through the perception of darkness. Fabrizio Carotti expresses a rather different take on darkness through his pictorial photography, where the Caravaggesque light enshrouds zealous bacchants engulfed by an inebriated enthusiasm as they prepare a welcoming bed for Dionysius, who is about to take the final step down the staircase to the earthly world. The irony that can be made out in their faces and their laughter serves as a faintly tragic comment on the relationship between the human and the divine. It is through a classical approach that Giuseppe Ciracì imagines a young Dionysius, emphasizing the link between contemporaneity and mythology. Uniting the force of oil and acrylic with the chiaroscuro of pencil, the body/face seems to lacerate itself, demonstrating an alternation between skeleton and skin, and widening the relationship between interior and exterior, which takes on a sense of intensity in the gesture and the strength of the hand reproduced in skeletal form in the image. substance”. In its internal and external spatial structure, a bunch of grapes – the basic element and origin of wine – allows Diana to reach Form. It is the same form that Mirko Nikolic appears to use as he tries to weave a thick web of networks, grids, maps and tangles in order to construct a landscape of signs driven towards a vital environment, where the lines link up with the structures, and it is only along these tracks that they come into being. The networks that constitute the form recall the organic development of plants in their complexity and elegance, concealing a complicated, impenetrable landscape viewed from above. Machines and their imagination are part of the work of Ignazio Mazzeo, who poetically re-casts rudimentary elements, transforming them into anthropomorphic monuments and closed machines with invisible relations and geometrical forms. Wine thus becomes the product of a natural/artificial mechanicism, the nectar gushing out from timeless structures being a symbol of life. For Pietro Pastore, fruits, flowers and explosive germinations become an allegory for that paradise lost of which the essence has gone astray. Form becomes unstable, opening itself up to an allegorical dimension. The watercolor representation of the god locates him inevitably in the season of the ivy, symbol of passion and bringer of fertility. Similar in technique but different in content, the strong relationship between man, food and the body sees Pierpaolo Miccolis put together a 30-scene spectacle that highlights the effects of wine on human beings. Rapid watercolors portray sinful, immoral and libidinous episodes, fusing them with stage-sets of celebration and sublimation that are unavoidably linked to the effect this nectar has on our senses. English artist Hannah Michael plays symbolically with the sign, depicting the youth of two twin girls and dressing them in the colors of wine. As if on a triumphal march, they seem to be directed towards the viewer, who eagerly awaits their arrival. It is by deceiving themselves with sexuality and desire and taking each other by the hand that they celebrate a lighthearted atmosphere of magic and frivolity, which is easily attributed to Bacchus and his depraved nature. Costabile Piccirillo seems to make use of a code that relies on just three colors: Chianti Classico red, Barbera violet and palm green. Together, these shades constitute the chromatic components of the work. With In Fondo Sottofondo, he posits an open, non-definitive magma of a complex visual path, like an archive that never ceases to be re-organized, given the incessant procession of external information. Taking as his starting point a study of the mystics and of their supposed hidden relationships with animals, Marco Mazzoni portrays an amorous relationship between a black rooster and an attractive girl. While the rooster clings to her black hair, a bed of ivy envelops the scene, infusing it with passion and excitement, wrapping the viewer in the intimate and sensual space of the work. Roman artist Gianni Politi uses the techniques of graphite drawing and essential painting on paper to represent Boots. With sharp, sometimes ferocious, strokes, his tools are the scraping soul of the condition of those who wear them, signaling their belonging to the everyday – that day-to-day habit that, speaking to us of work and effort, sees the field of work as a metaphor of existence. Francesca De Angelis orients herself in the space of the canvas with direct splashes of color – energetic, aggressive, even oneiric representations. With Sogno di Sole, she imbues the color blue with a sense of power, using it, as they did during the 20th-century avant-garde movements, to mark out the infinite, spiritual dimension, almost as if she is launching light towards us, towards a viewer who, enraptured, is caught in the infinity of the work. In her Intreccio in Dioniso, Gilda Scaglioni – avoiding the traditional pictorial material – transcribes her imagination with a needle and thread; through embroidery, she abstractly maps out the concept of pulsating, carnal life. Moreover, the warp and weft of embroidery allude to more sophisticated etymological interpretations, whereby the word “vine”, from the Latin “vite”, derives from the Indo-European “viere”, meaning to bend or weave. For Duerama, “….history of a passion” is that desire that can transform stone into simulacra, grapes into wine, pigments into worlds, since it grows and turns itself into fire: absolutely elusive and mysterious. It is a fire that escapes from the white labyrinth of the paper and, burning the thread, reveals a path. The starting point for the creation of Luca Zarattini’s work is the action of time, its stratification and material subtraction, as if to recall frescoes that are about to peel off the walls. What happens in his work is an inverse restructuring, his images at first being de-structured before being re-created, delineating in the process a contact between past and present. The irony, immediately evident in the title Il Sig. Vignaiolo Perbacco (“Mr Winemaker By Jove” or more literally “...by Bacchus”), plays constantly on the contrast between reality and fiction, portraying a worker with a surname that is inevitably linked to the mythological representation of wine, Bacchus. Painted on white, light paper, Diana Legel’s work is based on research into the essential structure of each object. STEFANO TADDEI 23 Fabrizio Carotti uses photography in a considered manner which does not prevent him from establishing a comparison with the temporality portrayed. For him, photography starts as an impossible genealogy and then opens up to experiments towards different situations and painting, which is akin to photography among artists in his generation. Thanks to digital technologies, shooting and processing time interact in an ever changing time unit. On the one hand, Carotti’s works are surprisingly marked by the presence of painting showing traces of its texture and old scratches, warm and almost oxidised colours, recalling times which virtually engulfed people and landscapes in a figural embrace. On the other hand, contemporary countenances, swift poses and fleeting movements bring us back to the riverbed of a technique renown for its capacity to grasp the moments lost during our existence. Paradoxically, Carotti’s works not only do they recall painting when he deposits a layer which embraces things and people but also when he applies its stylistic features, mainly in a Caravaggio style. The black light becomes a sort of denial of photography; Roland Barthes’ camera lucida turns dark again, because modern photography, mainly digital, is open to paradigms where the instrument is set aside and does no longer play a pivotal role in revealing the artist’s stance on the world and history of arts. This is important because, unlike in the past, this digital painting can now lean towards the sphere of neumenon. In other words, a technology-bound instrument holds the knowledge linked to the innermost, memory and archetypes, being a universe which has always belonged to culture, also from an anthropological viewpoint. Thus, the word “theatre” perfectly fits in Carotti’s work, theatre as both “teatrum mundi” and “theatre of memory”. The artist perfectly investigates the paradigmatic images of a civilization, namely compassion, sorrow, death, love, temporal suspension, with profound lucidity. Carotti’s photographic painting can summarize what the contemporary figurative art scene overlooks, seeking for something between deep structures and digital miracles. But he also pursues an original perspective of the world which is halfway between past and future, well aware of its origins and which is mostly the expression of a specific standpoint in the world. Thus, the difference between painting and photography is now blurry. It looks like something which recalls something else, an idea which someone pursued and developed but which is gradually turning into memory. What is important to bear in mind is that the XX century destroyed almost everything; therefore, there is nothing else this century and its generations can do but to start over from the pieces scattered and the ruins of meaning. As they group in more or less tight, parallel or intertwining bundles, we see them shape complicated grids, overlapping and creating different morphologies. Nikolic’s paintings are maps, and those bundles of colored stripes are territories, flowing on spot along invisible vectors, each figure tense towards the closest one. We look at those territories from afar, from outer space, with the cold omniscience so familiar to us Google Maps users. THE PERSISTANCE OF THE EXISTENCE Gianni Politi revolves around a strong and militant manual skill which is thoroughly compressed in the multiple meanings of the chosen fetish. The artist is fond of ancient techniques (graphite, charcoal drawing, essential painting…) and evergreen supports (paper, raw wood, powdered paper, canvas…), an archaic procedure that originates messages bearing solid moral order. At the beginnings working tools and war weapons dominated the scene; afterwards, stars and other universal symbols as well as human body fragments and animals particulars made their entrance without undermining the lettering quality and the short circuit which exists between paintings and real objects installations…Artworks become mirrors of a restless conscience; they are used to feel the History drama, the violence beyond the apparent calm, the double face of things beyond obviousness. …The artist coming from Rome touches on the dutiful historical debs which he respectfully faces yet avoiding the submission to the metahistorical power of archetypes. Alice Andreoli approached the painting during her High School art studies. She kept on studying and deepening her artistic research obtaining a graduation in painting first and visual and performing arts later on at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. The main characters of Alice’s artworks are the young people of today. The sensitive investigation of people having the same age of her stresses the symbols and the unhealthy attention given today to the image. In Alice canvases characters are thus represented with a photographic precision. The garish colors and the definite brushstrokes which characterize the art evolution of the twentieth century delineate the artworks main actors. Colors often drip down on the background isolating the figures. Alice’s research is conscious and sensitive with relation to the possibilities and limits of the superficial times we live in today. She has been taking part to prizes, personal and collective art exhibitions since 2003. Born in Rimini in 1982, he lives and works in Pesaro and Bologna. He began his studies in Urbino at the Istituto Statale d´Arte, graduating in Animation Cinema and Illustration. He continued his studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna in Painting. For a few years, from 2005 to 2009, he was an assistant to the artist Gabriele Arruzzo. In Bichi’s works, the colours are warm, material, tied to the earth; the colour itself takes shape and form, and his research aims at a return to and an absence of matter. Bichi, according to an informal technique, portrays on the canvas the subject transfigured by the artist’s intimate vision, which places the object in its most primitive state. Since 2006 the artist has participated in various solo and group exhibitions. He was born in 1981 in Naples where he works and lives. At the end of his studies in the Arts he became a Master Potter, a qualification obtained at the High School for the Arts “F. Palazzi” situated in Naples. He continued studying in his native town earning a Diploma in Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts where he also attended “COBASLID”, a second level two-year course in Plastic Disciplines. The artist’ research is centered on the collective consciousness which in his artworks takes the shape of signs, as sorts of primitive scriptures. Thanks to a refined chromatic play, the lines and the symbols traced by Borrelli create tender travels in the human nature. The sensitive vision of the artist brings back to life ancient shapes and traces of paths hidden by our daily life. Since 2004 he has been taking part to several personal and collective art exhibitions. Negli ultimi anni partecipa a numerose esposizioni collettive e personali. He was born in Jesi (Ancona) where he lives and works. He graduated in Aesthetics at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Bologna. The photography is his artistic expression and through the digital experimentation he creates unexpected pictorial atmospheres. Fabrizio merges photography and painting in his images. It is difficult to go back to source and to distinguish the single processes through which the artist wraps his characters in dark and soft lights sticking to Caravaggio teachings and expressing the violent energy of obscure forces which surround the human being. In Carotti’s artworks intents are crystal clear : freezing the light and those forces which create the movement and disfigure faces. In some cases the quotation to Bacon is explicit although the artist focuses his attention on the “action of in-visible forces upon flesh”. Fabrizio’s attention for the arts and literature drives his conscious choice of thematic, frames and characters. Over the last years he has taken part to numerous collective and personal art exhibitions. Da diversi anni partecipa a numerose esposizioni personali e collettive in Italia e all’estero. The artist was born in Brindisi in 1975. He lives and works in Milan. He begins his arts studies at the High School for the Arts placed in Brindisi and graduated in Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lecce. Ciriaci’s painting develops from a scrupulous anatomical draw which begins from bones where layers of flash and skin are subsequently overlapped. In some cases the graphic stratification characterizing his artworks is visible; in other cases, figures just remain a pure draw which is simply pencil on paper, acrylics or oil on canvas. The main characters are children, parts of the body and people. The figure is strongly present although it appears on the canvas or on paper through an attentive and accurate figurative technique that overcomes mimesis through the artist’s thought process. For several years Giuseppe is being taking part to numerous personal and collective art exhibition taking place both in Italy and abroad. She was born in Marino (Roma) in 1979. She lives and works in Rome. Her artistic career starts at the age of ten when she took private lessons at Rita Cappi’s studio. She attended Ripetta High School for the Arts placed in Rome. Her big gift for the drawing and the colors led her to deepen her studies at the Ripetta Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, where she attended the Painting Course. During her education course she took part to several art exhibitions. Francesca De Angelis painting research pays great attention to the surrounding reality in its deepest aspects. She gets inspired by the intensity of eyes looks, body exposures and movements which are then transferred into the canvas through an informal approach, highly tactile colors and vibrating chromatic matching which reveal Francesca’s sensitivity for the human nature. Her peculiar painting energy allows her to transform spots of colors into actions and strokes into signs. Such ability makes her very much appreciated by the art public since her youngest age and education period. She has been taking part to numerous personal and collective art exhibitions both in Italy and abroad. He was born in Naples the 22nd of May 1983. He lives and works both in Milan and Padua. His passion for painting has been evident since his early years of life. At the age of thirteen he started making graffiti on the city walls and he coined his tag mixing his surname syllables. Such a tag became his professional name also in the painting field. During his years at Brera Academy of Fine Arts he approached painting in depth and he studied together with Ignazio Gadaleta. He also exhibited his artworks both in Italy and abroad and took part to several prizes with excellent results. He prefers acrylics on canvas; a detailed draw and a technical accuracy are common to all his artworks and to most graffiti writers although Duerama looks for a deeper and more intimate approach to the arts through the informal painting. Later on his career the informal technique prevails in his artistic approach to painting. It follows that color spots and spray spots appear here and there as a result of a more intimate artistic feeling. Colors become sometimes pale sometimes definite with a peculiar attention to shades and to the play of the light. He was born in Modena in 1980. He lives and works in Castelfranco Emilia. His technical research is based on the anatomical study of faces and bodies whose knowledge has been accrued during his studies of Anatomic and Surgical Draw at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in Bologna. However, the artist more intimate and personal studies are oriented toward the human being and the reality which surrounds him. From an attentive observation of characters’ attitude and expression it is possible to outline complex and expressive figures that are detached from the surrounding darkness. These dark or white presences are there to represent the negative human peculiarities which stay on the background without corroding the mysterious apparitions. In Simone’s artworks darkness is the absolute protagonist in alternation with the light where characters are placed. Fazio has been taking part to numerous personal and collective art exhibitions since 2005. She was born in 1978 in Rochlitz, Democratic Republic of Germany. She lives and works in Rome. She started her studies in Rudolf-Hildebrand-Gymnasium in Markkleeberg, obtaining a diploma in the Arts and Linguistics. She continued her formative course collaborating with the Teatro Titanik Lipsia/Münster studio working on the practical realization of set design. Afterwards she attended a preparatory course for the study of the arts at the HGB University for the Arts in Lipsia. Her artistic research made her approaching different materials; she got a formation as stone-cutter at Steinmetzhütte GmbH in Lipsia and Steinmetz/-bildhauerei Franz, in Lipsia which brought her to practice the restoration in a professional way. Her preferred techniques are pencils, ink and water color on a papery support. Her formative course continued at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome where she has attended the Painting Course. Diana Legel has been taking part to several personal and collective art exhibitions for several years. Dal 2003 partecipa a numerose mostre personali e collettive in Italia e all’estero. He was born in Erice (Trapani) in 1985. He lives and works between Bologna and Granada. He graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. Mazzeo’s research starts from the observation of nature’ shapes which are reshaped by the personal vision of the artist who gives origin to unexpected machines. The acrylics on canvas present eye-catching chromatic matching, acid colors which are laid out through definite brushstrokes on flat backgrounds where the object is the absolute protagonist. The fantastic world proposed by the artist turns over the existing logics in a process of deconstruction and reconstruction of nature. The results are mechanic tools with a new life and a new value. He has been taking part to several personal and collective art exhibitions since 2003. He was born in Tortona (Alessandria). He lives and works in Milan. He achieved a diploma at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera in Milan where he attended the Painting course. The artist research is focused on portraits. Faces are the absolute protagonists in Mazzoni’s artworks while bodies result indefinite in dazzling white lights. Human limbs on the second level appear out of proportion and stretched till they become an ideal prosecution of faces. The technical control of the artist allows him to stress the expressive lines of faces which almost turn into caricatures in the attempt to investigate the character most intimate part. Mazzoni prefers colored pencil on canvas and paper to create faces which are maps of the human inner part. The artist has been taking part to several personal and collective art exhibitions and prizes since 2002 Pierpaolo Miccolis Nasce a Noci (Bari) nel 1985, vive e lavora tra Alberobello e Bari. Vive e lavora a Stroud, Inghilterra. She was born in London in 1986. She lives and works in Stroud, England. She studied Illustration at Swansea Metropolitan University Mount Pleasant, Swansea, Wales (England). Her skill for drawing which improved during her formative years allowed the artist to develop an inner way of expression through the use of several techniques, from lithography to painting and to experience different materials from oil painting to the Indian ink on extremely heterogeneous supports like paper, canvas, wood and fabric. Michael chooses her subjects among the ancient legends and the North European fairy tales. While brought up-to-date, subjects find new settings and unexpected transformations through Hannah’s stylistic use of the modern illustration. During her formative course she started exhibiting her artworks and since 2007 she has been taking part to art exhibitions in England and abroad. He was born in Belgrade in 1984. He lives and works in Milan. After completing the Major High School in Belgrade he moved to Milan where he attended the Fashion Design Course at the Marangoni Institute. Afterwards, he earned a Diploma in Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brera where he is now attending the Visual Art second level course. The color and an interlace design characterize Nikolic’s oil paintings. The relationship which links and breaks up at the same time people, towns and territories is visualized by the artist through networks which are tightly connected and moving. In fact, the social, economy and politics forces impose ongoing transformations to the mass of people thus functioning as a stimulus from different points of view and thus colors. In 2004 he started to take part to several personal and collective art exhibitions and to art prizes. He was born in Barletta in 1983. He lives and works in Bologna. He achieved a Diploma at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. Since 2004 he has been taking part to several art prizes; his artworks have been awarded several times and signaled by the art critic. He also has been taking part to several personal and collective art exhibitions. Pastore’s remains focused on the inner aspects of men and on an intimate reflection which overcomes the reality of today. His subjects are often fruits, leaves, organic shapes which acquire unexpected framings; objects are enlarged to show details which upset our usual way to look at things. They appear with nuances and out of focus so that our perception varies all the times. The artist vision appears on his cotton canvases through delicate water colors as a result of a technical experimentation which is never academic. L’artista partecipa a diverse esposizioni in Italia e all’estero. After graduating, he moved to Milan, where he earned a diploma in Painting from the Accademia di Belle Arti of Brera. After his studies, he began teaching at the summer Academy of Blieskastel in Germany. The artist proposes himself as an attentive observer of the reality that surrounds him; places, persons and the close interaction between them catches his attention. The artist’s visions are evident through the colour pairing and nuances of refined duotones and digital elaborations. The artist has participated in various exhibitions both in Italy and abroad. Politi partecipa a diverse esposizioni personali, collettive e premi d’arte. He was born in Rome in 1986. He lives and works between Milan and Rome. His Philosophy studies in Rome allowed him to unveil his passion for the arts. For this reason he worked at the studios of famous artists from Rome, Gianluigi Mattia and Piero Pizzi Cannella among them. Gianni’s favorite techniques are graphite or ink on wood panels. His attention is focused on the opposition between the weapons and the utensils he uses on his paintings. Politi is not interested in the academic reproduction of shapes but on the explosion of objects. The artist deeply reflects on the consequences of such outbreaks on bodies and thus on the human nature in terms of control. Politi took part to several personal and collective art exhibitions and to art prizes. She was born in Modena in 1977. She lives and works in Turin. The words which are often present in Gilda Scaglioni’s artworks are aesthetic signs and signifier at the same time. The eclectic artist has been taking part to numerous projects and collective and personal art exhibitions since 2002. 62 Luca Zarattini Nato a Codigoro (Ferrara) nel 1984, vive e lavora Ferrara. He was born in Codigoro (Ferrara) in 1984. He lives and works in Ferrara. He started his studies in the arts attending the Decorating Course at the High School for the Arts “Dosso Dossi” in Ferrara. He continued his formative studies getting a Diploma at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. The artist’s favorite subjects are alive or imaginary people portraits which are broken up and then put together again as in a process of decoding. The oil painting is applied consistently on scrap metal sheets which create highly tactile surfaces through the color. The rust mixed with colors sometimes amplifies and sometimes hides the strongly expressive faces which never get to be caricatures. Since 2001 he has been taking part to several personal and collective art exhibitions.
