SECONDO CICLO – LICENZA E DIPLOMA
AMMISSIONE
Per l’ammissione è necessario:
1. essere in possesso del Baccellierato in Teologia con voto finale minimo che consenta, nella Facoltà di
provenienza, l’accesso alla Licenza. Il voto richiesto dalla nostra Facoltà è 8/10;
oppure
2. aver compiuto cinque o sei anni di studi filosofico-teologici in un Seminario o Istituto equivalente. Il
Decano valuterà se il programma degli studi e il voto finale siano sufficienti per l’ammissione. Nei casi
dubbi, lo Studente dovrà sostenere un esame di ammissione o dovrà seguire alcuni corsi del Primo Ciclo.
Si richiede una buona conoscenza della lingua italiana o inglese; gli Studenti che non sono di madrelingua
italiana o inglese, saranno sottoposti a un test di conoscenza della lingua. Coloro che non lo avranno
superato, dovranno partecipare a un corso di lingua.
PIANO DI STUDIO
In questo ciclo ci sono due piani di studio: la Licenza in Teologia, della durata di due anni e il Diploma in
Teologia Pastorale, della durata di un anno.
LICENZA IN TEOLOGIA
Al momento dell'iscrizione lo studente deve scegliere un indirizzo di specializzazione tra quelli proposti dalla
Facoltà: biblico, tomistico, dogmatico, ecumenico, morale, spirituale.
Il piano di studio del biennio della Licenza prevede:
1. 14 corsi della propria specializzazione (42 ECTS);
2. 3 corsi comuni a tutte le specializzazioni (9 ECTS);
3. 3 corsi degli altri indirizzi (9 ECTS);
4. la partecipazione a 4 seminari della propria specializzazione (16 ECTS);
5. la redazione di una tesina, minimo 50 pagine, sotto la guida di un Professore della specializzazione (25
ECTS). L'argomento della tesina deve essere registrato in decanato appena sarà stato concordato tra lo
studente e il professore;
6. lo studio degli argomenti del tesario della propria specializzazione (Lista A), proposto dalla Facoltà (19
ECTS). Tale elenco può essere richiesto presso il Decanato già all'atto dell'iscrizione e sarà oggetto di
un'interrogazione generale che concluderà l'esame finale di Licenza.
Verso la fine del quarto semestre lo studente farà richiesta, presso la Segreteria dell'Università, di sostenere
l'esame finale della Licenza (lectio coram). Allo stesso tempo, egli dovrà consegnare in Decanato:
1. Due esemplari della tesina.
2. Un elenco di 20 temi (Lista B), formulato dallo studente, tratti esclusivamente dai corsi e seminari della
specializzazione frequentati durante il biennio. È necessario trarre da ogni corso e seminario almeno un
tema. Lo studente deve formulare il tema in modo che esso possa essere trattato in modo adeguato per 40
minuti, davanti alla Commissione d’esame, durante la lectio coram
3. Gli studenti delle sezioni dogmatica e morale dovranno corredare l'elenco dei temi della lista A con uno
schema e una breve bibliografia relativi a ciascun tema.
4. Tre giorni prima della data fissata per la lectio coram, lo Studente si presenterà in Decanato: gli saranno
indicati tre temi, scelti fra i 20 che egli ha precedentemente presentato (Lista B). Lo Studente ne sceglierà
uno e lo esporrà nella lectio coram.
Modalità di svolgimento dell’esame finale (lectio coram)

NOTA BENE: Lo studente sarà ammesso all’esame finale (lectio coram) solo se:
1. ha superato tutti gli esami dei corsi e seminari del biennio;
2. è in regola con gli adempimenti amministrativi.
DIPLOMA IN TEOLOGIA PASTORALE
Il piano di Teologia Pastorale è strutturato nel seguente modo:
1. 5 corsi fra quelli elencati nella sezione di Teologia Pastorale;
2. 2 corsi scelti dagli altri indirizzi;
3. 2 corsi comuni a tutte le specializzazioni;
4. Un seminario.
5. Un lavoro scritto della lunghezza di trenta - cinquanta pagine, sotto la direzione di un Professore della
Facoltà.
Alla fine verrà rilasciato il Diploma in Teologia Pastorale. Lo studente che ha ricevuto tale Diploma può
eventualmente conseguire la Licenza, partecipando ad altri tre seminari e completando i crediti richiesti.
Inoltre dovrà scrivere una tesina diversa da quella scritta per il Diploma.

SECOND CYCLE – LICENCE AND MASTER OF ARTS
ADMISSION
- Those who have received the S.T.B. degree with a grade point average sufficient for admission to the
Second Cycle according to the standards of the Institute which granted the S.T.B., may be admitted into the
Second Cycle (e.g., 8/10 if the S.T.B. was granted by the Angelicum).
- Those who have not obtained the Pontifical S.T.B. degree but who have completed an equivalent of five or
six year programme of philosophical and theological studies, may be admitted to the Licence Cycle if, in the
judgement of the Dean's Office, their programme of studies and their grade point average are sufficient. In
cases of deficiency or doubt, the Dean may require that some First Cycle courses or an examination be
sustained.
- A sufficient knowledge of English or Italian is required; the students whose mother tongue is neither
English nor Italian, will have to undergo a test of language proficiency. Those who fail the test will have to
attend a language course.
PROGRAMME OF STUDIES
There are two options in this cycle: the Licence programme in two years and the Master of Arts
programme, in one year of study.
LICENCE IN THEOLOGY

The Licence programme represents two years of post-S.T.B. study in one of the following areas of
specialization: Scripture, Thomism, Dogma, Ecumenism, Moral Theology and Spiritual Theology. The
Licentiate is the academic degree which enables one to teach in a Major Seminary or equivalent school and
which is therefore required for this purpose.
When first registering, the student must choose one of the areas of specialization. During the two years of
studies, the student must complete the following requirements:
1. 14 courses in the area of specialization (42 ECTS);
2. 3 courses from areas outside one's specialization (9 ECTS);
3. 3 courses from those common to all areas of specialization (9 ECTS).
4. 4 seminars in the area of specialization (16 ECTS).
5. The composition of a thesis, at least 50 pages, written under the direction of one of the Professors in
one's area of specialization (25 ECTS). The theme of the thesis is to be registered at the Dean's office once it
is agreed on by the student and the Professor.
6. The personal preparation of a set of themes proper to the area of specialization (List A). The list of
themes is given to the student at the time of registration (19 ECTS).
Towards the end of the fourth semester, the student must formally request the final exam (lectio coram) in
the Segreteria. At that time he should consign to the Dean's Office:
1. Two bound copies of the thesis;
2. A list of 20 themes __ List B __ drawn up by the student, at least one from each of the courses and
seminars of specialization, taken during the biennium. The aim of each theme is to provide a precise topic
that can be treated adequately in a 40 minute teaching exercise (the lectio coram).
3. Students of the Dogma and Moral Sections are moreover required to submit a brief outline and
bibliography of the themes set by the Sections (List A).
Before the final exam (lectio coram) the student must have completed successfully all course and seminar
examinations. Three days before the scheduled date of the lectio coram, the student will present himself to
the Dean's Office to choose one of three themes taken from his own list (B) as the title of his exposition.
The student will be admitted to the final exam (lectio coram) only if :
Only those students who have (1) passed all their course and seminar examinations during the licence cycle,
and (2) paid all pertinent fees, will be admitted to the comprehensive final examination (the lectio coram).
Structure of the lectio coram
1. The student will present a theme for 40 minutes.
2. A professor will pose questions on that theme for 10 minutes.
3. Two professors will pose questions on the list of themes of the student’s specialization (List A) for 20
minutes.
THE MASTER OF ARTS
In order to ensure that students are acquainted with a broad range of theological investigation, but to allow
them to concentrate in a field of interest, the programme includes the following work to be done during a
two-semester period:
1. 5 courses taken from one of the areas of specialization.
2. 2 courses from the other areas of specialization.
3. 2 courses from those common to all areas of specialization.
4. One seminar in the area of specialization.
5. The completion of a thirty to fifty page dissertation, composed under the direction of a member of the
Faculty of Theology.

Students who at a future date may wish to obtain the S.T.L., will be able to count the M.A. work towards the
fulfilment of the Licence requirements. Normally, one returning to finish the Licence would complete the
requirements in two semesters and would be responsible for a new tesina and the lectio coram.
