The “Magnificent 7” Countries participating in the Kids’ Carnival will present:
Australia: “WARM – collaborative fashion design workshop”
A team of designers from Queensland, Australia, will help young people experiment with
fashion and clothing design. The joys of re-proposing and “up-cycling” will be explored. Used
fashion items will be transformed into something new, fun and personal. Participants will use
recycled garments to make colourful objects they can take home, learning how clothing can
inspire creativity!
Initiative organized by The Collective Stitchery, with the support of Arts Queensland and
the Australia Council for the Arts.
Central Pavilion from 11 to 15 February
Great Britain: “Storytelling”
Family workshop (for parents and children). A workshop to show parents how to help their
children learn a foreign language through storytelling. Workshop conducted by an English
native-language teacher assisted by a member of the Biennale di Venezia staff.
Initiative made possible by the support of the British Council Italia.
Central Pavilion 11 and 12 February.
Germany: “The Tales of the Brothers Grimm – Mask and Costume workshop”
The enchanting fairytales of the Brothers Grimm have fascinated children and adults alike for
two hundred years! This year we will be celebrating their anniversary with a “fairytale”
contribution by Germany to the Kids’ Carnival in Venice. The German pavilion will open the
doors for children to the world of “fairies, witches and fairytale characters”! They will be able
to unleash their imagination and create Carnival masks and costumes, with instructions from
two film set designers from Munich.
The German contribution is a project by the Embassy of Germany in Rome and the German
Centre for Venetian Studies, with the support of the Goethe Institut.
Central Pavilion from 12 to 14 February.
Romania: “Beasts and Superbeasts”
Beasts and Superbeasts is an exhibition created by a group of artists known as the “Soap Art
Kollectiv” (Raluca Arnăutu & Suzana Dan); a collection of familiar or imaginary stuffed
animals inspired by modern fairytales conceived by the artists themselves. A series of
workshops, “Animal Stories!”, will centre on learning about these large animals from
Romania.
The exhibition and workshops are organized by the Romanian Institute of Culture and
Humanistic Research in Venice, with the support of the Romanian Cultural Institute in
Bucarest, and in collaboration with the Anaid Art Gallery, Global Mindscape and with
Australians Studying Abroad (Melbourne).

United States of America: “ElettrizzARTE!”
A fleeting thought, a sudden intuition, a brilliant idea and a light bulb turns on in our head!
The workshop presented by the United States of America will lead the participants in the
discovery of contemporary artists who use neon lights, LEDs, lasers, optical fibres and xenon
projections in their experimentation. During this activity children will become familiar with
light and lighting devices, discovering their characteristics and their artistic and creative
potential.
The programme by the United States of America was made possible by the Peggy
Guggenheim Collection.
Central Pavilion 11, 12, 18, 19,21 February.
Netherlands: “Dancing in Rietveld’s Pavilion!”
Tweetakt, the international theatre and art festival for children and young people in the
Netherlands, presents three interactive projects. You can create your own show in ‘Partitura’,
mix your own music sample in ‘Do it yourself DJ’ and make your own animated flipbook with
the ‘Filmmachine’.
The programme at the Dutch Pavilion has been made possible by the contribution of the
Embassy of the Netherlands in Italy, the City of Utrecht, the Province of Utrecht, the Treaty
of Utrecht Foundation, and in collaboration with the Rietveldpaviljoen Foundation.

Belgium: ABC “Toy-Workshop”
ART BASICS for CHILDREN has selected several different ideas from the ABC House’s
“Creative Resource Library” in Brussels to make toys with everyday and recycled materials.
This collection of ideas is not just an alternative to contemporary consumer culture, it also
constitutes an important creative process in and of itself; the pleasure of experimenting
together at school, during your free time and at home around the kitchen table.
An initiative organized by ABC – ART BASICS for CHILDREN, a non-profit organization
based in Brussels which operates in the field of arts and education to create stimulating
environments and projects that encourage children and adults of all ages to experiment
with their imagination and explore their creative potential.
