When I was asked about writing an article in regard to vaccines I pondered where I would take
this because I have some very strong opinions
on the subject. My first inclination was to impart
my opinions and try to persuade everyone who
would read this. After careful consideration I
thought it would be more appropriate to inform
and—most importantly— provoke thought on
the subject. My desire is to encourage pet guardians to make wise and educated decisions about
what is best for their four legged friends.

My interest in the subject began some years
ago. Someone very close to me adopted a seven
year old American Staffordshire Terrier and the
dog was deemed in perfect health by the veterinarian examining him. When the decision to
adopt the dog was finalized the owners did everything their veterinarian suggested. Since he
was a rescue and no vaccine history was available, why not just make sure he gets all his vaccines? Being responsible pet owners they did
what they thought was prudent and listened to
the “expert”. One month later that very healthy
dog was dead from liver failure.
