Highlights of Tuscany October 21-28, 2015 Florence Brief Area History: Beside the banks of the River Arno and set among low hills clad in olive groves and vineyards, Florence is immediately captivating. Cradle of the Renaissance and home of Machiavelli, Michelangelo and the Medici family the city seems unfairly over-blessed with art, culture and history. Despite the traffic and stifling summer heat, Florence attracts millions of tourists each year and has become the most popular city in the world among travellers. WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 21 h. 14.40 – Group arrival at Pisa airport. Pick up by Deluxe 50 seat coach and transfer to Florence. Accomodation in Hotel 4 star Hotel in Florence. Rest of the day at leisure. Buffet dinner at the Hotel. h. 21.00 Pick up by private coach and panoramic tour by night with a stop in Piazzale Michelangelo and 2 hour walking tour in centre. Drop off at the Hotel and overnight stay. Arezzo THURSDAY OCTOBER 22 Buffet Breakfast . H. 9.00 meeting with your guide at the Hotel and 3 hour Renaissance walking tour in centre. Optional visit to Uffizi Gallery with prebooked tickets (to be purchased in advance). Lunch on your own in local restaurant and afternoon free to discover and get familiar with the city centre. h. 19.00 Apericena and concert at TRILLO SCHOOL OF MUSIC inside the historical courtyard. The group will get to the place by walking. (15 min from the Hotel). Back to Hotel for/or after? dinner and overnight stay. Brief Area History: The town of Arezzo, which lies on a low hill of the Poti Alps, opens out fanwise onto the broad, fertile depression in the Apennine mountains, where the upper Arno and Tiber valley, the Casentino, and the Valdichiana meet. The town is the administrative and economic capital of the large province of the same name., and has over the last fifty years been transformed. Growth has been rapid, enabling Arezzo to become, amongst other things, a major goldsmiths center. The town's other vocation as a leading tourist attraction, and its ability to combine a long and great cultural tradition with its modern entrepreneurial identity, make it a major point of reference for the whole of eastern Tuscany. FRIDAY OCTOBER 23 Breakfast at the Hotel. Departure for Arezzo. Arrival and time on your own to discover the elegant centre of the town. Lunch on your own in suggested restaurant. After lunch, departure for Moterchi, to visit the magnificent Madonna del Parto by Piero della Francesca. Finally accomodation at Casa Vacanze le Fornaci, in Laterina. Traditional Tuscan Dinner with wine tasting, and overnight stay. SATURDAY OCTOBER 24 Buffet breakfast and check out. h. 8.30 departure for Mount Amiata area and first stop in Radicofani. Guided visit of the centre. Here you will have the opportunity to admire the beautiful landscape from the Rocca. Optional lunch in traditional restaurant. After lunch departure for Abbadia S. Salvatore and accomodation at your Hotel. In the afternoon guided visit a the Mines Museum with light trekking along the Natural Park of Pigelleto. Late in the afternoon, Video and pictures show about Terre di Ghino di Tacco and Robin Hood at the town Theatre with tasting of local wines and olive oils. Dinner at the Hotel and overnight stay. Mount Amiata Region SUNDAY OCTOBER 25 Buffet Breakfast at your Hotel. Transfer to Piancastagnaio for a guided visit of the lovely centre. The representatives of Nottingham will be welcomed by the town of Piancastagnaio. Optional lunch in local restaurant. In the afternoon time on your own to celebrate the Fall in the the mountain attending the “FESTA DELLA CASTAGNA” in Campiglia d’Orcia. In evening, the Italian Short Films premiere of “THE GHOST BUS” produced by Roberto Alborghetti in collaboration with ACT Group & Bartons plc (UK). Dinner in traditional restaurant and overnight stay. MONDAY OCTOBER 26 Buffet Breakfast and check out. Departure for Florence and accomodation in Hotel. Rest of the morning and lunch at leisure. In the afternoon transfer to Basilica San Miniato al Monte and San Salvatore al Monte. Guided visit. Back to Florence and dinner at Boccanegra Restaurant. Overnight stay. Siena Brief Area History: Siena is an historic town of Tuscany, of about 54,000 inhabitants, at 319 meters above sea level. It is rich in works of art and monuments. Previously an Etruscan city and Roman settlement, it experienced economic and artistic prosperity during the Middle-Ages. Siena has been able to conserve its ancient medieval characteristics integrally: buildings, small squares, narrow streets, back-streets and best of all, the warm, rich color of red bricks. TUESDAY OCTOBER 27 Buffet Breakfast at our Hotel and check out. Departure for Siena and meeting with your local guide for a guided tour of the Palio Town: Casa di Santa Caterina, Basilic of S. Domenico, Piazza Salimbeni, Via Banchi di Sopra (il Corso), le Logge della Mercanzia and Piazza del Campo, and the magnificent gothic Cathedral. Free time for lunch on your own. In the afternoon departure for Florence driving along the 222 Chianti Road. Wine tasting and visit of a local cellar and time on your own in Radda in Chianti to stroll around. Back to Florence and farewell dinner in a local restaurant. Overnight stay. WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 28 Buffet Breakfast and check out. In the morning guided visit at the Restoration Workshop.
