Application Letter
The letter should not be more than one page in length. Therefore, it is not necessary to summarize
the entire CV, but it is advisable to highlight particular points the applicants want to emphasize or
which may not come across clearly in the CV.
It is important to remember that the letter should be structured and to the point, and should be
centred on the writer’s individuality.
The cover letter should give the reader a clear impression of the applicant’s current situation.
Curriculum Vitae
The CV should be clearly structured and presented in four major sections: personal details,
educational back ground, employment history, extracurricular activities.
In Germany you should present your CV in chronological order, beginning with personal details,
followed by education and terms of employment.
In general, for students or new graduates a CV of approximately two pages is quite adequate.
Attach a photo to the CV, since many companies will not consider an application without one.
Application procedure
Be informed! Read up on the company you are interviewing with.
Do not be afraid to ask questions about any issues that may be of particular relevance, interest, or
concern to you. Show that you have put some thought into your application and ask questions
about structure, colleagues, reporting lines, and so on.
Be careful to listen: the interviewer will want to tell you about the job and the company.
