Chapman Taylor è uno studio internazionale di
architettura, urbanistica e interior design che opera,
con i suoi 17 uffici, in oltre 70 paesi in tutto il mondo.
Fondato a Londra nel 1959, lo studio è presente in Italia
dagli anni ‘90. L’ufficio italiano, noto come Chapman
Taylor Architetti, è stato aperto nel 2002 nel centro di
Milano. Da allora, lo studio ha lavorato su una serie
di progetti in Italia, ma anche nei paesi dell’Europa
orientale, dei Balcani, in Medioriente, in Africa ed Asia.

Chapman Taylor is an international practice of
architects, masterplanners and interiors designers
operating from 17 regional offices and with experience
of working in over 70 countries around the world.
Established in London in 1959, the practice has
had a presence in Italy since the 1990s and the
Italian office, known as Chapman Taylor Architetti,
was opened in the centre of Milan in 2002. Since
then the studio has worked on a variety of projects
not just in Italy but also East Europe, Balkan’s
area, Middle-East, Africa and Asia countries.

Our practice has many years' experience
in the design of marina and waterside
developments around the world ranging
from using water as an element in
major mixed-use masterplans to the
design of small marina buildings. Our
experience in working with specialists
ensures that the optimal facilities
are included for the mooring and
maintenance of boats, allowing us to
create the ideal waterfront experience.
We are highly experienced both as
contractor's architects, working as
part of the delivery team and as the
developer's architect, taking a design
to the employer's requirement stage
and then maintaining a design overview
role. The knowledge of how both
camps work means that we are able
to understand the design and build
process in great depth and deliver

L’area di intervento a Sud-Ovest del
fiume Sava si trova in una zona di
nuova espansione della città e prevede
l’edificazione di circa 126.000m2 di nuovi
spazi commerciali, direzionali, residenziali
e ricettivi tra cui ristoranti, exhibition
centre, piscina/Spa e centro congressi.
Il progetto prevede al piano terra
una grande piastra commerciale
inclinata che segue in modo naturale
la morfologia urbana esistente e si
congiunge ad una estremità con

l’argine del fiume, attualmente già
pedonale. Al di sopra della piastra
inclinata si ergono due edifici-icona
distinti, immediatamente riconoscibili
da tutta la città, rispettivamente con
destinazione residenziale e direzionale.
Le due torri, rispettivamente di
100 e 220 m di altezza, godono
entrambe di una spettacolare
vista verso la città ed il fiume.

This site, southwest of the Sava River,
is in a new city expansion area and will
see the construction of approximately
126,000m² of new retail, business,
residential and hospitality spaces,
including restaurants, an exhibition
centre, swimming pool, Spa and a
conference centre.

Il progetto utilizza una vecchia area
industriale dismessa, collegata all’area
del porto che sarà presto rinnovata. Una
scenografica torre d’uffici di 25 piani,
affacciata sul Mar Caspio, è l’elemento
architettonico dominante: impostata
su un basamento a destinazione
commerciale, ospita una grande Spa
con attrezzature sportive e piscine
sia interne che esterne. Il lato nord
del tetto è delimitato da un edificio
concepito per ospitare altri uffici e
funge da sfondo orizzontale alla torre.
A project on an old disused industrial
site linked to the port area, which is to be
regenerated. The dominant architectural
feature is a spectacular 25-storey office
block overlooking the Caspian Sea. Set
on a plinth of shops, it contains a large
Spa, indoor and outdoor swimming
pools and sports amenities. A building
running across the north side of the roof
provides more office space and provides
the tower with a horizontal backdrop.
Il Baku Business Centre è situato nel
cuore dalla capitale dell'Azerbaijan.
L'edificio, con la sua forma scultorea,
offre una vista spettacolare ai visitatori
che si avvicinano dal lungomare. I tre
principali materiali utilizzati, il vetro,
l'alluminio e la pietra locale, incorniciano
un grande centro conferenze, uffici
di alta qualità e un ristorante di lusso

Il tetto inclinato dell'edificio si protende
sulla promenade, galleggiando sul
paesaggio e creando uno spazio
pubblico esterno molto accogliente e
flessibile per mostre ed eventi. Avendo
utilizzato materiali cromaticamente
omogenei e un sistema di illuminazione
integrata, l'edificio trasmette
un'immagine elegante e sofisticata.
The Baku Business Centre is located in
the heart of the capital city of Azerbaijan.
The building provides dramatic vistas
with the sculptural quality of the building
revealed as visitors approach it along the
seafront promenade. The strong forms
of the three principle elements of glass,
aluminium and finely detailed local stone
enclose a large exhibition /conference
facility, high quality offices and a luxury
restaurant with breathtaking views over
the Caspian Sea.
The building's inclined roof stretches out
into the promenade, floating above the
landscaping and creating a welcoming
and flexible exterior public space for
exhibitions and events. In adopting a
restrained palette of materials, bespoke
integrated lighting and considered
detailing, the building conveys a
business-like and sophisticated image.

L’edificio sorge in un‘area di grande
bellezza naturalistica a ridosso di
un ampio parco urbano, nel punto
d’incontro tra il fiume Sava e il Danubio
e svolge il ruolo strategico di cerniera
tra la nuova e la vecchia Belgrado.
E' un complesso di circa 130.000m²
articolato su 5 livelli, di cui 2 interrati
destinati ai parcheggi, e comprende più
di 120 negozi, cinema, bowling, casinò
e un’area divertimenti per famiglie.
La facciata, realizzata prevalentemente
in zinco titanio e alluminio verniciato, si
segnala per l’uso spregiudicato del colore,
il suo tratto moderno e la sua forza
iconica che la rendono immediatamente
riconoscibile nel paesaggio urbano.
Gli interni neutri e luminosi sono stati
pensati per valorizzare al massimo
il potenziale dei fronti vetrina.

Standing in an area of great natural
beauty, close to a large city park located
where the Sava and Danube rivers meet,
this development plays a strategic role
linking old and new Belgrade. It has an
area of approximately 130,000m² across
five levels, two of which are underground
car parks. It comprises more than 120
shops, cinemas, bowling alleys, a casino
and a family entertainment centre.
The titanium, zinc and painted aluminium
façade features strong use of colour
and its modern line and iconic impact
make it a distinctive landmark on the
cityscape. The brightly-lit neutral interiors
are designed to maximise the potential of
the shop windows.

Il restyling urbano delle aree ex Alumix
e Magnesio interessa una superficie
di circa 51.000m2 per una SLP totale
di circa 100.000m². L’area ospiterà un
centro di ricerca all’avanguardia per
attività innovative ed artistiche, con spazi
per aziende ad alto livello tecnologico,
laboratori e centri di ricerca. Sono anche
previsti un museo di arte contemporanea
riservato alle opere di artisti locali,
residenze, negozi, ristoranti e una piccola
biblioteca.
The urban restyling of the former Alumix
and Magnesio sites involves a floor
space of approximately 51,000m² out
of a total surface area of approximately
100,000m². It will contain a state-ofthe-art research centre for innovation
and the arts, with spaces for cuttingedge technology companies, workshops
and research centres. A contemporary
art museum for works by local artists
only, plus housing, shops, restaurants
and a small library are also planned.

L’area ex Alumix prevede un futuristico
'monolite' nero che rompe la rigidità della

cortina edilizia storica e aggetta sospeso
sulla strada, puntando dritto verso la città.
Il rivestimento sarà realizzato in fibra
nera di carbonio e celle fotovoltaiche
integrate. Il grande 'magnete' alto 50
metri con funzione prevalentemente
direzionale dell’area ex Magnesio avrà la
caratteristica di essere sospeso su una
piazza d'acqua.
Questo progetto ha vinto il concorso di
progettazione internazionale promosso
dalla Provincia Autonoma di Bolzano per
il nuovo polo scientifico e tecnologico
della città.

Il progetto prevede il recupero e il
riutilizzo dell'architettura industriale del
vecchio deposito tranviario e degli edifici
esistenti sull'area, integrandoli nel nuovo
progetto.
The aim of the project is the functional
renewal of a former tram depot,
conserving the existing buildings and
ancient walls left in the area of intervention.
The main purpose is to redevelop and
reuse these archaeological industry
artefacts by integrating them into the
new project.
L’area dell’intervento sarà destinata per
metà ad uso pubblico, con la creazione di
un mercato rionale ed un centro sportivo,
e per metà ad uso privato, con gallerie
commerciali che si sviluppano su tre livelli
per un totale di circa 10.000m2 di GLA,
ed un edificio direzionale di cinque livelli.
Le diverse funzioni, se pur completamente
interconnesse ed integrate fra loro,
avranno accessibilità e livelli di fruibilità
differenti.
L’elemento architettonico che unifica
il progetto per tutta la sua lunghezza
e’ il parco urbano pensile che funge
da copertura per l’intero complesso e,
protendendosi verso l’Appia, diventa una
pensilina che caratterizza e protegge la
piazza sottostante.

One half of the development will be for
public use, with a local market and a
public sports centre while the other half
will be for private use, with a 10,000m2
GLA shopping mall on three levels and
a five-level office building. The project is
conceived as a sequence of harmonic
spaces with connections that allow
the user a customised usability of the
different functions.
The main architectural feature is a
roof garden that acts as an urban park,
covering the entire building complex
and leaning out towards the main road,
characterising the square below.

A shopping centre with a surface area of
30,000m2 in Cassino.The exterior design
was inspired by the theme of speed
and features a succession of lights that
enlivens the façade. The interior has a
simple and restrained appearance, with
the floor and ceiling design inspired by
computer circuit-boards.
Natural light is brought in through
empty wire-mesh boxes hanging from
the ceiling that filter the incoming light.

verderame, si è voluto ricreare l’idea
della lucentezza e preziosità dei metalli.

The building represents an important
innovation for the city of Nis, not
only for its enhanced architectural
appearance, which stands out for its
compact design and simplicity, but also
for the commercial content enclosed.
Since Nis was used to underground
markets, this project proposes a new
shopping formula, modernising the
retail experience and revitalising an
outdated and run-down urban area.

linguaggio moderno del centro direzionale

This design features a collection of
adjacent buildings that form a shared

the buildings and entrances were
designed to create a single system,
which blends into the surroundings
and makes a strong visual impact.

L'esterno del centro commerciale è
caratterizzato da un arco che fornisce un
forte contrasto tra la leggerezza del vetro
d'ingresso e l'aspetto solido di pannelli
per facciate dei prefabbricati. La piazza
esterna utilizza un interessante sistema
di illuminazione e di arredi, mentre
gli interni prestano molta attenzione
all'uso dei colori e delle luci, che creano
una finitura elegante sia per le piazze

The client brief was to interpret the
grandeur of the classical architecture
in a large, luminous space. The two
shop levels feature barrel-vault
ceilings and side air vents in timber
which allows natural light to pass
through the buttress ribs. Glass lifts
and spectacular staircases form

Termini station in Rome. Consisting of a
basement, ground floor and five floors
above ground, the new design ensures
rational and flexible space planning.
The open atrium was retained as a true
symbol of a green approach, which is
visible from the street.
The renovation includes detailed office
planning with the aim to maximise the
use of all the available space. Flexibility
was required to cater for different uses
and tenants.
The latest technologies and standards
were used throughout the design
process resulting in a low environmental

L’obiettivo del nostro incarico era di
riqualificare l’area e di sviluppare un
concetto architettonico per il nuovo

We were appointed to masterplan and
develop an architectural concept for the
new commercial use, making this design
task a challenge and a great opportunity.
Il progetto della nuova darsena includeva

Quattordici ville situate in un’area
prestigiosa nella zona collinare
sopra Zagabria sono caratterizzate
da uno stile contemporaneo e da
un’elevata qualità delle finiture.
Ogni villa si sviluppa su quattro livelli,
per un totale di 400m², e comprende
piscine, terrazze ed area fitness. Grazie
all’utilizzo di vetrate e pietre locali, le
costruzioni si inseriscono perfettamente
nel contesto urbano e naturale.
Situated in a prestigious hillside location
above Zagreb, these fourteen villas
are designed to have a contemporary
feel with quality finishes.
Each 400m² villa is developed over four
levels, comprising a swimming pool,
terrace and fitness area. The choice of
materials, including glass and local stone,
allow the buildings to blend perfectly with
their urban and natural surroundings.

Un cubo semi trasparente composto di
elementi luminosi come lanterne sospese
a mezz’aria e realizzate in plexiglas
opalino è lo stand di Chapman Taylor
Architetti. Lo stand in oggetto è un
prototipo che esemplifica una tipologia
progettuale con cui il nostro studio si
propone ai futuri clienti di un settore,
quello espositivo, in continua e crescente
espansione.
The Chapman Taylor Architetti stand
is a semi-transparent cube made of
translucent Plexiglas that consists
of many luminous cubes resembling
lanterns suspended in mid-air. This stand
is a prototype of a design-type which
will be presented to future clients in the
constantly growing exhibition sector.
Kite nasce dalla collaborazione di Asset
Solare, società che si occupa di soluzioni
energetiche per le imprese, con Chapman
Taylor Architetti al fine di progettare una
pensilina di copertura per parcheggio.
L’idea del progetto muove
dall’interpretazione di due elementi
naturali: la leggerezza del vento e il colore
della luce solare.
La forma ad aquilone di Kite esalta i tratti
caratteristici dei due elementi, rompendo
la monotonia delle aree di parcheggio
attraverso un ‘design ludico’, animato
da forme dinamiche e accostamenti
cromatici decisi.

Il modulo principale, strutturato
sull’ampiezza di 5 stalli di parcheggio,
giustappone pannelli triangolari sui quali
trovano collocazione i pannelli fotovoltaici,
garantendo facilità di montaggio e
collegamento dei pannelli stessi.
Kite project originated as a joint venture
between Asset Solare and Chapman
Taylor Architetti and consists of an
innovative design of canopy modules
intended to be used as shelters in big car
parking areas.
The elements were shaped into the
pleasing form of kites with dynamic
shapes and strong chromatic colours
with the aim of breaking the monotony of
similar structures used to cover today's
parking areas.
Grazie alla versatilità delle forme
triangolari, le geometrie, generate dal
ribaltamento e dall’affiancamento dei
moduli base, si sviluppano secondo
direttrici complesse, superando la noiosa
ritmicità tipica della reitazione.
Incorporating photovoltaic systems,
the design idea originated from the
interpretation of two natural elements;
wind and light, the former representing
weightlessness and the latter
representing colour.
The main module, designed to cover 5
car parking places, is extremely easy to
assemble in any modular combination.

'To Cook Or Not To Cook' was an event
organised and designed by Chapman
Taylor Architetti at the 2010 Fuorisalone
(Milan International Furniture Fair).
Architecture, graphics and theatrical
expression were merged to create a
unique visual formula to promote Antares;
an Italian manufacturer of kitchens.

intesi come moduli capaci di adattarsi a
situazioni e usi diversi. Sono realizzati con
struttura in acciaio e diverse finiture per
le sedute.
A design for furnishing modules that are
able to adapt to different situations and
uses. They are constructed using steel and
have several options for seating finishes.
'To Cook Or Not To Cook' è l'evento
'architeatrale' organizzato e progettato da
Chapman Taylor Architetti, in occasione
del Fuorisalone 2010.

Associate Director Dr Arch – Iscritto all’Ordine degli Architetti di Milano
Gianfranco ha frequentato la facoltà di
Architettura presso lo IUAV di Venezia,
laureandosi nel 1984. Entra a far parte di
Chapman Taylor a Londra nel 1987 per
occuparsi di diversi progetti commerciali
e residenziali in Inghilterra. Come Project
Architect, è stato a capo del team italiano
a Londra su importanti progetti e nel 1996
viene promosso a Director, divenendo
responsabile dello sviluppo dei progetti
italiani e dell’apertura dello studio a
Milano, nel 2002.
Gianfranco guida tutt’ora lo studio italiano,
Chapman Taylor Architetti, oltre ad essere
un membro dell’International Management
Board. E’ impegnato nello sviluppo di
progetti architettonici contemporanei
che spaziano dal retail, al residenziale e
agli uffici.
Gianfranco studied architecture at the
IUAV Venice, qualifying as an architect in
1984 before joining Chapman Taylor in
London in 1987 to work on a variety of
retail and residential projects in the UK.
As Project Architect he led the Italian team
in London on relevant projects and was
made a Director in 1996, with particular
responsibility in developing the Italian
office which opened in 2002 in Milan.
Gianfranco continues to lead the Milan
practice, Chapman Taylor Architetti, and
is also a member of the International
Management Board. He is committed to
contemporary architectural design and
this is reflected in many of the projects
developed in the Italian practice, ranging
from retail, residential and offices.

progettazione architettonica dal concept
design fino alla realizzazione in cantiere.
Nel 2006 diventa Project Director e
successivamente, dal 2008, assume il
ruolo di Associate Director occupandosi in
particolare della qualità nella progettazione
architettonica e di sostenibilità.
Alessandro joined Chapman Taylor London
in 2001, acting as a Project Architect on
Italian and international projects.
Following the opening of Chapman Taylor
Architetti in Milan, he moved to Italy in
2003 to work on a wide number of projects
in Italy and abroad focusing on all the
phases of architectural design from concept
to on-site stage.
In 2006 he became Project Director
before assuming the role of Associate
Director in 2008, with particular
responsibility in architectural design
quality and sustainability.
