Curriculum vitae PERSONAL INFORMATION Valentina Pippo Via Aldo Gastaldi 10/9A, 16043 Chiavari (Italy) +393282599860 01851991835 [email protected] Sex Female | Date of birth 18 May 1983 | Nationality Italian WORK EXPERIENCE 15 Jan 2014–Present PhD student Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), Genoa (Italy) Actions performed by other individuals activates motor cortex as real execution. The neurophysiological evidence for this motor facilitation relies on the mirror neuron system (MNs). There is a growing body ofevidence indicating a possible role of MNs has a positive impact on rehabilitation of motor deficits. Authors refer to a training called Action Observation therapy (AOT) based on the observation of video-clips showing goal-directed actions. For our knowledge, no studies with tactile stimuli related to action observation have been made. It is not clear if receiving a tactile stimulus related to the goal of an observed action, such as the tactile information perceived on the hand during the contact with the grasped object, can increase the motor facilitation typically induced by the visual observation of action. Differently stated, if the combination of multisensory stimuli related to action can improve the effect of the unimodal action observation is still an open issue. Combining tactile or auditory information related to the manipulation of an object with action observation could further improve AOT efficacy. The main purpose of my project is therefore to develop newer rehabilitative treatment using action observation in realistic multi-modal virtual environments (visual, auditory and somatosensory actionrelated-stimuli).
