The word of God is living and active; it probes the thoughts and motives of our heart. Alleluia! EUCHARISTIC PRAYER II RECENTLY DECEASED Jerry Quill ANNIVERSARIES Michele Ciurleo, Jose Santos, Leonardo Iacovino DO NOT WORRY Today’s Gospel passage can sound very heartless if directed to the destitute, those without the necessities of life. So, where is the emphasis to be sounded? ‘Do not be worried about your life. But you are to worry about others, others without adequate food or clothing.’ In fact, later in this Gospel it is made clear that our eternal destiny depends on our provision of the necessities of life for others. But, do I really believe that my ‘Heavenly Father’ knows what my basic needs are and will prompt others to provide for me if I can't manage myself? The first reading brilliantly correlates with this passage. The prophet Isaiah gives us a maternal image of God: ‘Does a woman forget her baby at the breast … Yet even if these forget, I will never forget you.’ Gospel “Love your neighbour as yourself” (Matt.22:39). As members of the one human family we are called to think beyond our inner circle and extend our prayers, thoughts and goodwill to those in our global family who struggle daily in areas of conflict and war, those living in extreme poverty and those impacted by the effects of a changing climate. LENTEN REFLECTION GROUPS 1. The first Italian reflection group for Lent begins on Tuesday this week (and each Tuesday of Lent). It will be held at 10.30am in St Ambrose’s Parish House. Sr Marjetka will lead this group. 2. God is more motherly than the most maternal of mothers. Being made in the image of God, if each of us expressed the maternal traits of God vis a vis others then they would not need to be anxious about food or clothing. We could pause for a moment to set our hearts on the Kingdom in which the maternal imaging of God can flourish. Fr Michael Tate ASH WEDNESDAY THIS WEEK Ash Wednesday is this Wednesday 1 March.
