Riccardo Banfi nasce a Milano nel 1986. Ad oggi è iscritto al biennio specialistico in Progettazione e Produzione delle Arti Visive presso la IUAV di Venezia. Nel 2011 ha frequentato il
workshop di Leigh Ledare presso la Fondazione Spinola Banna per l’Arte a Poirino (TO).
La sua ricerca si concentra sulla relazione tra verità e finzione, e sceglie la fotografia come
mezzo per indagare la cultura giovanile e i volti che la connotano. Collabora con Av-Netwerk,
casa di produzione e associazione culturale che opera su diversi fronti del settore audiovisivo.
Nel 2010 ha fondato Dueunozero insieme a altri otto studenti, un laboratorio autogestito che
riflette sul tema dell’auto-educazione, e attualmente collabora a Microclima presso la Serra
dei Giardini di Castello, progetto nato durante la 54esima Biennale di Venezia.
--Riccardo Banfi was born in Milan in 1986. He is currently studying for an MA in Visual Arts
at the IUAV University in Venice. In 2011 he was selected for Leigh Ledare’s workshop at the
Fondazione Spinola Banna per l’Arte in Poirino (province of Turin).
His research focuses on the relation between truth and fiction, and he makes use of photography to look into youth subcultures. He collaborates with the Av-Netwerk, a production
company and cultural association operating in the audiovisual field. In 2010, together with
eight other students he founded Dueunozero, a self-run lab reflecting on the theme of selfeducation, and he is currently involved in the Microclima project hosted at the Serra dei Giardini di Castello, founded during the 54th Venice Biennale.

NEVER MADE è un serie fotografica direttamente ispirato al film “Made in U.S.A” (1966) di Jean-Luc
Godard. In questo lungometraggio il regista inserisce spesso la protagonista su sfondi piatti, monocromi e Pop, la spia mentre si aggira per la periferia di una città, mentre si guarda attorno malinconica e
sospettosa, come se qualcosa di imprevisto potesse accaderle da un momento all’altro.
Le dodici fotografie, vogliono essere come degli still da video che ci raccontano una storia, che ricordano la pratica artistica di Godard e che richiamano il tempo dell’attesa come un tempo dilatato e
incessante.
Il video, direttamente ispirato al trailer di Made in U.S.A., è uno spot pubblicitario per la serie di fotografie.

NEVER MADE is a photographic series directly inspired by Jean-Luc Godard’s “Made in U.S.A.” (1966).
In this movie the director often places the main carachter on flat, monochrome and Pop backgrounds;
he spies on her roaming in the suburbs of a city and looking around in a gloomy and suspicious way, as
if something could happen at any time.
The twelve pictures are like movie stills that tell us a story, that remind us of Jean-Luc Godard’s artistic
approach and that speak about time as something endless and dilated.
The video, directly inspired by the movie trailer, is a commercial for the photographic series.

You can secede all you like, as long as the crown is on the currency. In other words, if you trumpet
around that you are seceding, please kindly note that you are seceding from my immensely popular and
overcrowded laboratory at the IUAV. I am doing this job at and for the IUAV, just like you, and if you
secede into oblivion, we will not be able to promote the fact of your secession, nor you the fact of cutting the umbilical cord, with much fanfare or notoriety to benefit institution and its hard workers.
We are joined, therefore, for the remainder of the term, my dear satellites, but I trust your astronauts
will accomplish the mission well, and the mother ship is always here for consultation. Thank you for
updates, please prepare posters and graphic material for your events, keep me inforrmed, if you turn lab
tables into boats, or whatever, so that this all goes smoothly, without firing a shot.

Dueunozero è un laboratorio autogestito creato nel 2010 da un gruppo di nove studenti dell’Università
IUAV di Venezia. Il laboratorio esplora le possibilità di apprendimento autonomo attraverso iniziative
come lezioni aperte, cineforum, lettura di testi, Mailing Professor e Skype Professor.
--Dueunozero is a self-conducted lab created in 2010 by a group of nine students of IUAV University in
Venice. The lab explores self-education possibilities through initiatives such as open lessons, cineforum,
readings, Mailing Professor and Skype Professor.

AV-Netwerk è una casa di produzione e associazione culturale che opera su diversi fronti del settore
audiovisivo come videoarte, fotografia, musica, grafica, nuovi media e organizzazione di eventi. Nasce
a metà del 2008 da un progetto univesitario sviluppato da Francesca Faccilongo Ulrich alla University
of Westminster di Londra in seguito alla necessità di riunire sotto gli stessi principi e valori un numero
di amici e artisti sparsi per l’Europa. Fino ad ora sono stati realizzati diciassette progetti grazie al contributo di oltre venti artisti provenienti da diverse città come Londra, Milano, Parigi, Berlino, Venezia e

Av-Netwerk is a production company and cultural association involved in the fields of film, photography, music, graphic design, new media and events. It started in 2008 from a project by Francesca Faccilongo Ulrich at the University of Westminster in London with the will of creating unity among a circle
of friends and artists spread around Europe. Until now eighteen projects were realized thanks to the
contribution of more than twenty artists coming from London, Milan, Paris, Berlin, Venice and Rome.
Thanks to the fundamental support of who believes in this long-term artistic project, Av-Netwerk keeps
evolving attempting to acquire and provoke cultural and spiritual awareness.

Ad oggi sto lavorando a un progetto che documenta con fotografie, video, flyer, poster e altri oggetti,
la mia personale esperienza nel mondo del clubbing e della musica elettronica. L’intento è di analizzare
l’immaginario di questa scena musicale, come esso sia mutato nel tempo e quali possano essere gli
scenari futuri. Ho scelto come punto di partenza di questa ricerca una fotografia che ho scattato nel
1995 a Ibiza durante una vacanza con la mia famiglia.
--Nowadays I’m working on a project which documents my personal experience in the world of clubbing
and electronic music through photographs, videos, flyers, posters and other objects. The intent is to
analyze the imagery of this music scene, how it changed and what it may become. As a starting point
of this research, I chose a photo I took in 1995 during a holiday in Ibiza with my family.
