Sette biciclette munite di lampeggiante
Il progetto di una scorta di biciclette
blu con il suo taglio ironico, come
tanti altri realizzati (o proposti) da
Baruchello, affronta il difficile rapporto tra realtà e immaginazione, tra
utile e inutile, tra senso pratico e finzione, lasciando intendere una scelta
reale per quel che di fatto -anche se
non sarà certamente adottato - rappresenterebbe una possibile soluzione sia ecologica che economica.

Sieben Fahrräder mit Blaulicht
Das Projekt einer Ehreneskorte deren Begleitfahrzeuge blaue Fahrräder sind, kann wie viele andere Entwürfe und Kunstwerke Baruchellos
die Ironie, die dahinter steht nicht
verbergen. Es spricht das schwierige
Verhältnis zwischen Realität und Vorstellung, zwischen Nützlichem und
Unnützem, zwischen Praktischem
und Unzweckmäßigem an, und vermittelt jedoch gleichzeitig mit klarer
Stellungnahme eine mögliche - wenn
auch in Zukunft wahrscheinlich nie
umgesetzte - sowohl nachhaltige als
auch wirtschaftliche Lösung.

Seven bicycles with blue flashing
lights
The project of an Escort of Honour
composed by blue bicycles with its
cutting irony, like many others made
(or proposed) by Baruchello, tackles
the difficult relationship between reality and imagination, between useful
and useless, between practical sense
and fiction, suggesting a real choice
for what in fact - although certainly it
will not be adopted - would represent
a possible solution both ecological
and economical.

Dinghi e Frisbee sono marchi della ditta
TCMobility con sede a Bolzano, che sviluppa e produce biciclette elettriche seguendone in house e in proprio design e
progettazione tecnica. Nel 2009 l’azienda ha aperto anche una filiale in Cina
(costituita con 100% capitale nostrano)
che si occupa di ricerca e sviluppo di
prodotto, test di qualità e scouting in
loco. Al contrario di quanto provocatoriamente assunto dall’artista ai fini dell’installazione la TCMobility non è pertanto
un concessionario cinese, ma un’azienda altoatesina leader del proprio settore
che produce in Cina componenti per le
proprie biciclette sviluppate e progettate
dall’azienda. La TCMobility ha costruito
negli ultimi anni anche in Italia e in Europa una rete di distributori e centri di
assistenza per la manutenzione dei prodotti creando posti di lavoro anche sul
proprio territorio. Questo per noi è un
aspetto rilevante da sottolineare, vogliamo dare ai ns. prodotti un’identità europea ovvero sosteniamo non l’assunzione
acritica di modelli esteri ma un processo formativo e di sviluppo basato sulla
collaborazione, lo scambio di idee e la
reinterpretazione originale di modelli
esistenti nello sviluppo di nuovi prodotti.

neue Firma in China zu 100% mit unserem Kapital gegründet hat, die sich

einer chinesischen Firma, sondern Südtiroler Unternehmer, die Produktteile in
China nach eigenen Vorgaben erstellen
lassen. Wir haben in diesen Jahren in
Italien und Europa ein Netz von Verteilern und Servicestellen aufgebaut, die
das Produkt instandhalten und auch
Arbeitsplätze im Territorium schaffen.
Das ist für uns ein wichtiger Punkt, wir
möchten unseren Produkten eine europäische Identität geben, also keine
a-kritische Übernahme von fremden
Mustern, sondern Lernprozess, Zusammenarbeit und Reinterpretation.
Dinghi and Frisbee are trademarks of TCMobility, a company founded and based in
Bolzano that designs and produces e-bicylces in Italy, China and worldwide.

Dinghi is really not a chinese company... only for this video and this artwork i used -- to provocate and to make
people think -- this construct. Dinghi is an Italian brand
that belongs to TCMobility developing these e-bikes by
themselves. DINGHI is part of TC Mobility.
Italy has a very good relationship with China since many of
their companies - see Ducati, Fiat, Ferrari, etc. - are now
partially or entirely owned by CHINESE businesses. CHINESE
companies are the leaders in Green Technology and in possession of 97% of Rare Earth used in all GREEN TECHNOLOGIES. CHINESE ownership guarantees easy access to these
vital metals which are very important in all battery driven
technologies. A collection of news drawings on Rare Earth,
e-bicycle production, Green Energy in China; the CHINESE/
ITALIAN relationship, and the importance of China in World

Da passione, espressione e arte astratta fino all’arte
contemporanea in Corea del Sud
È da oltre 50 anni che la fiamma dell’arte contemporanea
si è accesa in Corea del Sud.
Ciononostante, in Corea abbiamo ancora confusione a
scrivere la storia dell’arte. Perché? Perchè il 21esimo
secolo si era aperto senza un’adeguata verifica dell’Informale, che era considerato la radice dell’arte contemporanea in Corea.
Poiché non era chiaro se l’avvento della pittura “informale”, fenomeno importante nella storia dell’arte della
Corea come nuova tendenza artistica degli anni ’50, fosse
dovuto al clima della Guerra Civile Coreana (1950-1953),
se fosse un fenomeno nato spontaneamente, o se invece
si sviluppò con l’arrivo delle Forze Nazionali degli Stati
Uniti, o grazie a critici d’arte che contribuirono attivamente all’introduzione dell’arte internazionale, o ancora
all’arte americana, introdotta attraverso “Time”, “Life”, o
“Art News” e altre riviste vicine al fenomeno dell’astrattismo americano dell’epoca.
L’arte degli anni ‘50 in Corea del Sud, rappresentata dalla
passione e dall’espressione, è veramente il punto di contatto e l’inizio della fioritura dell’arte astratta occidentale
e coreana nel dopoguerra.
All’inizio del 20esimo secolo il periodo della colonizzazione giapponese in Corea (1910-1945) può considerarsi un
momento di deriva dell’arte moderna. Ciononostante, nel
1915, dopo che Hui-Dong Koh (il primo artista coreano di
pittura occidentale) ritornò a casa dopo gli studi all’estero,
la pittura occidentale prese piede e nacque l’”Impressionismo”. Da allora, l’arte coreana si sviluppò attraverso i
contrasti tra l’arte tradizionale, l’arte moderna e quella
contemporanea. La tendenza dominante dell’arte negli
anni ‘70 in Corea del Sud è stata la sommersione nell’arte
concettuale del modernismo e del minimalismo, e il gruppo di artisti formato da Ufan Lee, Seo Bo Park, Se Ok Seo,
Chang-Yeol Kim, Jong Hyun Ha e Hyung Keun Yoon ha
aperto una nuova fase dell’arte contemporanea in Corea.
Dalla fine degli anni ’70 e per tutti gli anni ’80, sotto l’influenza dell’iperrealismo americano, si è sviluppata la

corrente dell’iperrealismo coreano rappresentata dagli
artisti Man Young Han, Yeong-Hun Koh, Seok-Ju Lee e
Seok-Cheol Ji.
Negli anni Ottanta, come si è visto in tutto il mondo, il Neo
Espressionismo ha conosciuto una fase predominante,
con la diffusione del Neo Espressionismo in Germania,
della Transavanguardia in Italia, del Neo Espressionismo
a New York e in Francia. In Corea, in quell’epoca, HakCheol Shin, Yoon Oh e Ok-Sang Lim che erano chiamati
artisti popolari e aderirono al realismo, rappresentavano
il Neo Espressionismo coreano.
I dipinti a inchiostro in bianco e nero realizzati da SooNam Song a quel tempo erano più popolari dei dipinti a
colori e dell’arte contemporanea, ma hanno perso la loro
identità e le radici, oggi inondate dalla Western art e dalla
Pop Art.
Detto ciò, che cosa dire a proposito dell’arte contemporanea in Corea nel 21esimo secolo?
Viene alla mente un artista di video art famoso in tutto il
mondo, Nam-June Paik.
Nel suo lavoro cominciato in Germania e poi diffusosi in
tutto il mondo si riscontra la tendenza naturale di una
società nella quale le rivoluzioni tecniche stavano investendo tutti i settori ed in cui gli eventi artistici erano condizionati dall’ossessione per il digitale e la tecnologia del
21esimo secolo.
Una varietà di software per ottenere immagini d’arte più
visive ed emozionanti invasero gli spazi d’arte. Le sale
espositive attraverso i mass media, come nelle fiere online, vengono brillantemente occupate da una rivoluzionaria forma di arte digitale.
Yeon-Du Chung attraverso i mezzi di comunicazione,
Yong-Baek Lee e Jung-Hwa Choi con le installazioni, DoHo Suh rivelando un messaggio di scontro tra civiltà ed
epoche storiche, Su-Ja Kim con l’uso di stoffe tese o ripiegate a borsa, Byung-woo Bae e A-Ta Kim attraverso la
fotografia, sono attualmente gli artisti che raccontano la
situazione dell’arte contemporanea coreana nel mondo.
Ora, credo che il gruppo di più di 50 eccellenti artisti coreani (incluso Jeong-Min Suh per il Solo Show) che parteciperanno a kunStart 12 introdurranno un alto livello di arte
coreana in Europa e porteranno cosi onore al loro paese.

Von Leidenschaft über Expressionismus und Abstraktion zur Gegenwartskunst in Südkorea
Vor etwa 50 Jahren flammte der erste Funke von Gegenwartskunst in Korea auf, jedoch ist es immer noch
schwierig die koreanische Kunstgeschichte zu schreiben.
Wieso?
Diese Unklarheiten beruhen auf der fehlenden Erfassung
des Informel das als Basis der koreanischen Gegenwartkunst angesehen wird.
Bis heute ist noch nicht klar, ob die informelle Kunst, die
als neuer Trend der 50er Jahre von großer Wichtigkeit für
die koreanische Kunstgeschichte ist, durch die Geschehnisse des Bürgerkrieges (1950 – 1953), aus einer natürlichen Entwicklung oder wirklich durch die „Kampfstiefel“
der UN Friedenstruppen in Korea Fuß fasste. Ob sie über
Kunstkritiker die aktiv internationale Kunst forcierten,
oder durch amerikanische Einflüsse, über die Magazine
„Time“, „Life“ und „Art News“ und deren Artikel über den
amerikanischen Expressionismus, aufkam.
Fakt ist: die von Passion und Expression geprägte Koreanische Kunst der späten 50erJahre erlebt ihre erste
Blütezeit und den ersten Austausch mit den westlichen
Kunsttraditionen nach dem Krieg. Das frühe 20 Jh., als
Japan von 1920 bis 1945 eine unerbittliche Kolonialpolitik
in Korea vorantrieb, gilt hingegen als eine für die Kunst
verlorene Phase, in der jeder Geist, jedes Gefühl von moderner Kunst abzudriften drohte.
Nichtsdestotrotz wurde mit Hui-Dong Koh (der erste
koreanische Künstler der unter dem Einfluss der westlichen Malerei stand), der 1915 nach seinen Studien im
Westen nach Hause zurück kehrte, der koreanische Impressionismus geboren. Seit damals war die koreanische
Kunst von einem ständigen Konflikt zwischen Tradition,
moderner und zeitgenössischer Kunst geprägt.
Die 70er Jahre sind durch den Übergang von modernistischen und minimalistischen Tendenzen zur Konzeptkunst geprägt und eine Künstlergruppe um Ufan Lee, Seo
Bo Park, Se Ok Seo, Chang Yeol Kim, Jong Hyun Ha und
Hyung Keun Yoon sind die Begründer einer neuen Gegenwartskunst in Korea.
Von den späten 70er bis in die frühen 80er kam unter dem
Einfluss des amerikanischen „Hyper-Realismus“ auch in
Korea diese Kunstrichtung auf. Die Künstler Man Young
Han und Yeoung-Hun Koh, Seok-Ju Lee & Seok-Cheol Ji
waren die wesentlichen Vertreter dieser Zeit.
Lenkt man den Blick einmal rund um den Globus, so waren die 80er Jahre von der Vorherrschaft des Neo-Expressionismus geprägt. Neo-Expressionismus in Deutschland, Transavantgarde in Italien, NEO Expressionismus
in New York und in Frankreich. Über die Volkskünstler
Hak-Cheol Shin, Yoon Oh, Ok-Sang Lim und deren neuen
Bezug zum Realismus kam diese Ausdrucksform auch
nach Korea.
Die Schwarz Weiß Tuschebilder von Soo-Nam-Song verdrängten für kurze Zeit die farbige Malerei und Gegenwartskunst, verloren jedoch durch das Aufkommen der
Western Art und der Pop Art alsbald ihre Seele und dadurch auch ihre Popularität.
Was ist nun mit der koreanischen Gegenwartskunst des
21 Jh.?
Dazu müssen wir uns vorerst an den weltbekannten Videokünstler Nam-June Paik erinnern. Paiks Kunst kann
als ein Höhepunkt der visuellen Revolution und Triumph
einer neuen Kunstform angesehen werden und wurde
weltweit zu einem inspirierenden Inbegriff für die koreanische Gegenwartskunst.
Sein Wirken begann in Deutschland, weitete sich jedoch
bald auf den gesamten Globus aus. In einer Gesellschaft
und in einer Zeit in der in allen Bereichen technische
Revolutionen stattfanden, war es eine natürliche Folge,
dass diese Obsession für digitale Kunst oder Kunst-Technologie des 21. Jh auch in die Räume der Kunst vordrang.
Durch Software werden vielseitige visuelle Effekte und aufregende Bildkreationen geschaffen, die die Kunsträume
dieses Jahrhunderts, wie Ausstellungs- und Messehallen
mit einer revolutionären Form digitaler Kunst füllen.
Yeon-Du Chung bedient sich der Massenmedien; YongBaek Lee und Jung-Hwa Choi arbeiten im Bereich der
Installations-Kunst, Do-Ho Suh enthüllt den Zusammenstoß von Epochen und Zivilisationen. Su-Ja Kim arbeitet
vorwiegend mit Stoff- Behängen und Bündeln für ihre
Kunst, Byong-Woo Bae und A-Ta Kim zeigen über Fotos
die koreanische Gegenwartskunst in der der Welt.
Ich denke die 50 hervorragenden koreanischen Künstler
(Jeong-Min Suh mit seiner Solo Show eingeschlossen)
die an der kunStart 12, der Biennalen Kunstmesse in Bozen, teilnehmen, werden koreanische Kunst von hohem
Niveau vorstellen und unserem Land große Ehre bereiten.

‘From the Passion, Expression and Abstract to the Contemporary Art in South Korea’
It has been more than 50 years since the real flame of
contemporary art had begun to glow in Korea. However
we still have confusion in writing the art history of Korea.
Why? Because the 21st century began its course without
the proper verification of ’Informel’ which is considered to
be the root of contemporary art in Korea.
It was not clear whether ‘Informel’ painting which was an
important milestone in art history of Korea as a new trend
in 1950s, was a consequence of the atmosphere of Korean
Civil War (1950-1953) or a natural birth, whether it came
up with ‘combat boots’ of United Nations Security Force
or was due to art critics who actively introduced international art or to American art introduced through “Time”,
“Life” or “Art News” etc,.. magazines familiar with American Abstract Expressionism at that time.
The art of the late 1950s in Korea, represented by the passion and the expression, really is the point of contact and
start of blooming of Western and Korean abstract art after the war.
The lost period in the early 20th century dominated by
Japanese colonization (1910-1945) over Korea made our
spirit of modern art drift. However, in 1915, after Hui-Dong
Koh (the first Korean artist of western painting) returned
home after studying Western painting the ’Impressionism’ was born. Since then, Korean art developed through
conflicts among Traditional, Modern and Contemporary
Arts.
The main trend in art of the 1970s in Korea was the submergence in the conceptual art of modernism and minimal art, and the artists group of Ufan Lee, Seo Bo Park,
Se Ok Seo, Chang Yeol Kim and Jong Hyun Ha, Hyung
Keun Yoon headed a new contemporary art in Korea.
From late 1970s through early 1980s new Korean hyperrealism artists were born under the influence of the
American hyper-realism and were represented by Man
Young Han, Yeong-Hun Koh, Seok-Ju Lee and Seok-Cheol
Ji.
In the 1980s, worldwide there was a predominance of
NEO Expressionism arts i.e. NEO Expressionism in Germany, Trans Avant Garde in Italy, NEO Expressionism in
New York & in France. In Korea, Hak-Cheol Shin, Yoon
Oh, Ok-Sang Lim who were called folk artists joined realism and represented the NEO Expressionism in Korea at
that time.
In this period the black-and-white ink painting represented by Soo-Nam Song got more popular than the colored
painting and contemporary art, but lost its identity and
roots now overwhelmed by the Western Art and Pop Art.
What about the contemporary art in Korea in the 21st
century?
First of all we remember a world-famous video art creator, Nam-June Paik.
Paik’s art in fact can be called the flower of the visual revolution and the triumph of a new art format. Paik indeed
became an inspiring example of Korean art in the world.
His work has been started in Germany and spread all over
the world, since in a society where technical revolutions
were taking place in all sectors, it was a natural consequence that exhibitions were obsessed with the digital art
and technology.
A variety of software for more visual and exciting art images developed and spread in art and art spaces of this
century. Exhibition spaces through mass media such as
e-fairs are brilliantly occupied by the revolution of digital
art.
Yeon-Du Chung through mass media, Yong-Baek Lee and
Jung-Hwa Choi with Installation Art, Do-Ho Suh revealing
a message of a clash between civilizations and era, Su-Ja
Kim working with cloths and bags, Byung-Woo Bae and
A-Ta Kim by means of photography are a group of artists who show the position of Korean Contemporary Art
in the world.
Now, I believe the group of more than 50 excellent Korean
artists (including Jeong-Min Suh for the solo show) participating in the kunstart 12 Biennial Art Fair in Bolzano
will introduce a high level of Korean arts to Europe and
bring honour to our country by making a great success
as well.

Chris H. Cheon and Suk Nam Sung are the owners of
A&B Gallery based in Seoul, and Chris H. Cheon is the
President of ‘Nez-a-Nez’, an association that promotes
French-Korean Cultural Exchanges and the circulation of contemporary Korean art in Europe, especially in
France and Germany. They have been the exhibitors at
the important German fair Art Karlsruhe for eight years
and recently opened a&b gallery in Baden Baden with a
German partner. They count many participations at international art fairs, such as the Contemporary Istanbul
(2008 -2011) and The Solo Project in Basel (2011). They also
organize a Turkish Contemporary Art Exhibition in June
2012 in Seoul, Korea with a cooperation of Contemporary
Istanbul during the Yeosu EXPO 2012 period and vice versa
in Istanbul, and will continue an annual Korean-Turkish
art exhibition in both countries from 2013.
formation from a rural to a global economy, how is this
process affecting Korean art market? Is Korea becoming
an emerging art market? What’s the current situation of
the art system in Korea?
Chris H. Cheon: Korea accomplished an unprecedented
economic growth in a short time, and accordingly Korean art market volume has been enormously increased
through a traditional gallery system as in Europe. However, fast development of internet system is being applied
to the art market which destroys the traditional gallery
structure and asks closer contact to the global art market. A&B gallery wants to be a pioneer to keep up with
the current art system in Korea as well as in Europe. One
thing not to be overlooked is that the collectors in Korea
yet tend to buy the art paintings as an investment (commercial concept) rather than a pure collection of the artworks they like. This tendency will be eventually changed
but will take some time....
kunStart 12: What do you expect from participating at
kunStart 12, within the frame of ‘Focus Korea’? Which
are the future possibilities for contemporary Korean art
in Italy?
Chris H. Cheon: We are very excited to firstly participate in
the kunStart 12 biennial art fair in the beautiful city of Bolzano, with a special project of ‘Focus Korea’. Despite the
recent economic difficulties in Italy and other EU countries, 10 Korean galleries participating in kunStart 12 look
forward to a successful result in the country of art, Italy.
Once we will have a successful result in Bolzano, there
will be a lot more participation in Italian and European art
fairs by more Korean galleries and artists.

kunStart 12: You founded the Association ‘Nez-a-Nez’ of
French Korean Cultural Exchanges because you feel the
need to link together the two countries in relation with
arts policy and markets. Regarding arts policy and arts
projects, what’s the current situation of the relations between European and Asian countries, especially South
Korea?

Chris H. Cheon: European countries, especially Italy,
France, Germany and Korea have more than 100 years of
historical amity relationship with a variety of artistic events
backed up by thousands of Korean students studying art
in Europe. Also, recently, K-pop (Korean Pop-song) which
is dominant in Japan and other countries becomes more
popular in France and other European countries to accelerate the cultural exchanges as well as the commercial &
economic relationship through a FTA (Free Trade Agreement) between EU and Korea. We expect increasing interest in the Korean arts by most of EU countries and vice
versa through a mutual exchange of art events and joint
collaboration in the operation of galleries and art exhibitions as well. One good example is that in KIAF 2011 (Korea
International Art Fair) held in September in Seoul, European galleries obtained an excellent sales result, and more
Korean galleries and artists start to participate in several
major art fairs in Europe. kunStart 12: Since South Korea has known a rapid trans-

kunStart 12: Qual è stato il tuo percorso di formazione
artistica? Quanto c’è, nel tuo lavoro, delle tue radici
coreane e quanto hai acquisito nella tua “permanenza
europea”?

Ho Jin Jung: Ho una laurea specialistica in Arti Visive Scultura - all’accademia di belle arti di Brera e un titolo di
studio nello stesso campo in Corea. Il mio lavoro è influenzato molto dalla mia cultura. Utilizzo la scrittura, anzi, più
che altro un canto specifico, che si chiama Arirang. È un
antico canto che ha una forte influenza emotiva sul popolo coreano perché in passato è stato usato dal movimento
di liberazione durante l’occupazione giapponese, durata
ben 36 anni. Ora non si sente più in giro, se non per occasioni speciali, come feste tradizionali, però continua ad
essere considerato un simbolo per il Paese. Ci sono molti
negozi e ristoranti coreani all’estero che si chiamano
Arirang... Anche una rete televisiva ha lo stesso nome.
Trovo l’Arirang un soggetto di grande significato, anche
se non è molto chiaro il perché sia diventato un marchio
simbolico. Dal 2005 ad oggi, l’ho utilizzato in sculture, installazioni, video, opere interattive... Quest’anno, nel Padiglione Accademie alla Biennale di Venezia, ho installato
Arirang Spheres, un’opera installativa in cui ho cercato
di non utilizzare il background culturale e linguistico del
canto. Questo gioco, non potrebbe funzionare in Corea
perché i coreani non saranno mai liberi dai contesti legati
all’Arirang, e dal significato del testo, ma in Europa è perfetto... Fossi rimasta in Corea, non mi sarei mai avvicinata
ad una ricerca di questo genere.
kunStart 12: Per l’edizione 2012 di kunStart sarai ospite
come gallerista di Studio Akka. Che cosa possiamo anticipare rispetto alla tua presenza? Quali sono le tue aspettative?
Ho Jin Jung: Con la curatrice della mia galleria abbiamo
selezionato giovani artisti coreani promettenti che lavorano sia in Corea che all’estero. Yeonju Sung produce
vestiti da sera stupendi con fette di frutta e verdure;
ha avuto ottimi risultati a Los Angeles, senza parlare
delle mostre e delle fiere a cui sta partecipando in Corea. Sejin Hwang, invece, si sta muovendo verso l’Asia.
È un’artista molto richiesta in Corea. Siamo riusciti ad
avere solo poche opere perché ha bisogno almeno di un
paio di mesi per ognuna... Ma vale la pena aspettare.
Mostriamo anche un’artista che ha studiato a Milano e
lavora tra Milano e Seoul: Inkyong Noh. In Corea è molto
conosciuta come illustratrice di libri per ragazzi, ma, a
mio parere, i suoi quadri sono molto più interessanti.
Daeyoung Kang porterà le sue piccole zanzare in filo di
rame posizionate dall’artista dentro a delle lampadine,
creando un’ambientazione molto poetica. La mia galleria insieme a tutti i partecipanti di Focus Korea sta
cercando di creare un’opportunità per un nuovo mercato
presentando opere di alta qualità con un prezzo ancora
relativamente basso.

Il lavoro di Hyon Soo Kim elabora da anni un concetto
di vita che si trasmette all’idea di maternità. La madre
è un contenitore di possibilità genetiche, di trasmissione
della specie, ma anche un simbolo di speranza e di futuro. Nella serie di lavori M.A.R.I.A (2004-2006) l’artista ha
rappresentato tutte le madri del mondo ispirandosi anche
ai colori tradizionali dei rispettivi popoli. Le sculture in
bianco riprendono questa filosofia, la donna si semplifica
nelle forme, diventa un vaso, qualcosa che ha la funzione
di accogliere, di contenere la vita, il futuro. Nei disegni
domina ancora il bianco, come colore della spiritualità.
Il colore è appena accennato, i segni neri si contrappongono per superficie e gestualità, sempre all’interno di un
equilibrio compositivo rigoroso. Tutto ciò che è inutile viene eliminato, l’essenzialità grafica scandisce la spazio del
foglio di carta.
Il video “A Casa Rosanna” (55 min.) è stato girato a Capri presso l’abitazione della gallerista e organizzatrice di
eventi artistici, Rosanna Chiessi. La ripresa è stata rovesciata, quello che accade attorno alla tavola imbandita, i
discorsi, il cibo, il vino, sono visti da una prospettiva capovolta.
La Chiessi ha portato per la prima volta Hyon Soo Kim in
Italia nel 2004. Il video è una metafora dello stare insieme, del legame che unisce le persone che amano l’arte e
di come questa cambi la prospettiva di guardare la realtà.

Hyon Soo Kim è nata in Corea del Sud, ma negli anni ’80
si è trasferita in Germania, a Monaco di Baviera dove si è
laureata presso l’Accademia di Belle arti e attualmente
vive e lavora. In Italia ha esposto a Reggio Emilia nel 2005
nella Chiesa di San Pietro una mostra da titolo M.A.R.I.A.

sime dedicate a tutte le madri del mondo che ha avuto
uno straordinario successo. Successivamente l’artista
è stata invitata da Daniel Spoerri a realizzare un lavoro
per il Parco di scultura di Seggiano sul Monte Amiata, e
ha vinto l’ottava edizione del Premio Ermanno Casoli. Ha
partecipato in Italia al Premio Arte Laguna nel 2009.

Hyon Soo Kim versucht durch ihre Werke ein Lebenskonzept zu vermitteln, das eng mit der Idee der Mutterschaft verbunden ist. Die Mutterfigur steht einerseits als
beinhaltend für die vielen genetischen Möglichkeiten,
der Vervielfältigung der Spezie, ist aber auch Symbol
der Hoffnung und versinnbildlicht die Zukunft. In der
Werkreihe M.A.R.I.A. (2004-2006) stellt die Künstlerin
alle Mütter dieser Erde dar, indem sie sich auch an den
traditionellen Farben der verschiedenen Völker inspiriert.
Die Skulpturen in Weiß greifen diesen Ansatz auf. Das
Wesen der Frau vereinfacht sich durch die Form, wird
zum Gefäß, zum Behälter für Leben und Zukunft.
Auch in den Zeichnungen überwiegt wiederum das Weiß,
Farbe der Spiritualität. Andere Farben sind nur angedeutet. Die schwarzen Zeichen stehen dazu im Kontrast als
Oberfläche und Geste, brechen aber nicht aus dem strengen Kompositionsgleichgewicht aus. Alles Zusätzliche
und Unwesentliche wird weg gelassen, es bleibt nur das
bildlich Essentielle auf dem Papier bestehen.
Das Video „A Casa Rosanna“ (55 Min.) wurde im Haus der Galeristin und Organisatorin von Kunstevents Rosanna Chiessi
auf Capri gedreht. Die Aufnahmen wurden auf den Kopf gestellt. Das was rund um den gedeckten Tisch geschieht, die
Gespräche, das Essen, der Wein, alles steht auf dem Kopf.
Rosanna Chiessi brachte Hyon Soo Kim das erste Mal im
Jahr 2004 nach Italien. Das Video stellt eine Metapher
für das Zusammensein und die Verbindung zwischen
Menschen dar, die die Kunst lieben und sich über ihren
Einfluss auf die Wahrnehmung der Realität bewusst sind.

Hyon Soo Kim wurde in Südkorea geboren und zog in den
80er Jahren nach Deutschland, nach München in Bayern,
wo sie an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste promovierte
und wo sie seit Jahren lebt und arbeitet. Im Jahr 2005 stellte sie in Italien in der Kirche „San Pietro“ in Reggio Emilia
mit großem Erfolg das Gesamtwerk M.A.R.I.A. „Allen Müttern der Welt“ aus. Es besteht aus 14 farbigen Skulpturen,
die den Müttern dieser Erde gewidmet sind. Daniel Spoerri
lud die Künstlerin ein, eine Arbeit für den Skulpturen-Park
in Seggiano sul Monte zu realisieren. Hyon Soo Kim gewann
die achte Auflage des „Ermanno Casoli“ Preises und nahm
im Jahr 2009 am Künstlerwettbewerb „Arte Laguna“ teil.
The work of Hyon Soo Kim has been developing since
years a concept of life that is connected with the idea
of motherhood. The mother is a repository of genetic
possibilities for the transmission of the species, but
also a symbol of hope and future. In the series of works
M.A.R.I.A (2004-2006) the artist represented all the
mothers of the world inspired by the traditional colors
of their peoples. The white sculptures resume this philosophy, the woman has simplified shapes, becoming a
vessel, something that is meant to embrace and contain
life and future. In the drawings still dominates the white
as the color of spirituality. The color is barely mentioned,
the black signs are opposed as surface and gestures,
always within a rigorous compositional balance. All the
useless is removed, the graphic essentiality articulates
the blank of the paper sheet.
The video “A Casa Rosanna” (55 min.) was shot in Capri

action around the table, speeches, food, wine, is viewed
in an upside down perspective.

Hyon Soo Kim was born in South Korea, but in the 80s
she moved to Munich, in Germany, where she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts and currently lives
and works. She exhibited in 2005 in Reggio Emilia in the
Church of San Pietro her work entitled M.A.R.I.A. “To all
the Mothers of the World”, over 14 colorful sculptures
dedicated to all the mothers of the world that has had
an extraordinary success. Then the artist was invited by
Daniel Spoerri to create a work for the sculpture park in
Seggiano sul Monte Amiata, and won the eighth edition
of the Ermanno Casoli Award. In Italy she has participated in the Laguna Art Prize in 2009.

Charlotte Moorman, grande violoncellista classica per molti anni a New York,
mi confidava spesso che si annoiava
moltissimo a suonare la solita musica
tradizionale. L’incontro con John Cage fu
fatale e in pochi anni divenne l’interprete
ufficiale di molti artisti fluxus, partendo
appunto da John Cage, June Paik, YokoOno, Kossugi e altri artisti. Una volta, a
New York, Paik mi disse: “Ci sono tre
donne che hanno una presenza scenica straordinaria: Greta Garbo, Marylin
Monroe e Charlotte Moorman”. Anche
quando Charlotte si ammalò continuò
a interpretare le performance. In una
di queste occasioni stava interpretando
la performance (Rottura del violino) di
Nam June Paik: lei doveva alzare piano
piano il violino e con un colpo violento,
doveva romperlo su di una base di fronte
a lei. A metà performance mentre stava
alzando il violino, le vennero meno le
forze e non riuscì a completare la performance. Paik era presente, salì sul
palco, senza nessuna esitazione, prese
il violino e con rabbia e violenza lo ruppe. Tutti si emozionarono.
A Reggio Emilia nel 1989, Charlotte volle rifare la stessa performance e questa
volta ci riuscì, nonostante le sue condizioni di salute che peggioravano di giorno in giorno. Questo avvenne il primo
maggio del 1989 all’ex caserma Zucchi
di Reggio Emilia. L’anno seguente, 1990,
Nam June Paik tornò nella mia città,
per una grande mostra agli “Stalloni”.
Quando venne a casa mia e vide il violino
della Charlotte, dedicato a me, anche lui
lo volle firmare.

vertraute mir ein Geheimnis an. Sie
langweile sich sehr immer dieselbe traditionelle Musik zu spielen. Ein Treffen
von Charlotte mit John Cage stellte einen
Wendepunkt in dieser musikalischen
Monotonie für sie dar. Innerhalb weniger
Jahre wurde sie zur offiziellen Interpretin
vieler „fluxus“ Künstler, angefangen bei
John Cage, June Paik, Yoko-Ono, Kossugi und anderen bekannten Namen.
Als Paik einmal in New York zu Besuch
war sagte er zu mir: „Drei Frauen haben
meiner Meinung nach eine außergewöhnliche Präsenz: Greta Garbo, Marylin
Monroe und Charlotte Moorman.“ Auch
als Charlotte erkrankte führte sie die
Aufführungen für die Künstler fort. In
einer Performance von Nam June Paik
(Bruch/Bersten der Violine) sollte sie
eine Violine langsam anheben und dann
mit Gewalt zerbersten. Als ihr einmal
während einer Aufführung dieser Szene die Kräfte schwanden, eilte ihr Paik
zu Hilfe, nahm die Geige aus ihrer Hand
und brach sie voller Zorn und mit Gewalt
entzwei. Die Anwesenden Gäste waren
begeistert. In Reggio Emilia im Jahr 1989
wollte Charlotte dieselbe Performance
noch einmal wiederholen. Dieses Mal
gelang es ihr, trotz ihres schlechten Gesundheitszustandes, die Performance zu
Ende zu führen und die Violine zu zerbrechen. Dies geschah am ersten Mai in der
ehemaligen Kaserne „Zucchi“ von Reggio Emilia. Ein Jahr darauf, 1990, kehrte auch Nam June Paik für eine große
Kunstausstellung in der Arena „Stalloni“
in meine Stadt zurück. Als er in mein
Haus eintrat und Charlottes Violine sah,
die sie mir gewidmet hatte, wollte auch
er seine Unterschrift darunter setzen.
Charlotte Moorman, big American cellist for many years in New York, often
told me that she was bored of playing
the old traditional music. Her meeting
with John Cage was fateful and in a few
years she became the official interpreter of many fluxus artists, such as
John Cage, June Paik, Yoko-Ono, Kossugi and others. Once, in New York, the
artist Nam June Paik told me: “There
are three women with an extraordinary
presence on the stage: Greta Garbo,
Marylin Monroe e Charlotte Morman”.
Also when Charlotte got ill, she continued to perform. In the performance entitled “Break of the Violin” by Nam June
Paik, she didn’t succeed in breaking the
violin, because of a loss of power. Paik
was present, went on the stage without
any hesitation, took the violin and broke
it violently. Everybody was touched.
In 1989, in Reggio Emilia, Charlotte
wanted to repeat the same performance
and this time she succeeded, although
her health conditions were getting
worse day by day. This happened at the
ex-Zucchi in Reggio Emilia. One year
after, in 1990, Nam June Paik got back
in my town to see a large exhibition at
“Stalloni”. When he came to my house
and saw Charlotte’s violine, dedicated to
me, he also wanted to sign it.

MinJi Kim/Alessandro Dal Pont - dolomiti contemporanee
MinJi Kim (Seul 1975) und Alessandro Dal
Pont sind ein Künstlerehepaar, das gemeinsam in Berlin lebt und wirkt.
Im Dialog der zwei von ihnen präsentierten
skulptoralen Werke werden sofort die gegenseitigen kulturellen Verschmelzungen,
sowie die natürliche und nicht vermeidbare gegenseitige kulturelle Beeinflussung,
sichtbar. Die Stereotypen und Klischees der
beiden Werke scheinen jedoch durch ihr
Zusammenrücken ein eigenes vieldeutiges
und gehaltvolles Universum zu schaffen.
Beide Skulpturen erwecken den Anschein
sich emporheben zu wollen, beide sind auf
eine dichotomische Struktur aufgebaut.
MinJi Kim (Seul 1975) and Alessandro
Dal Pont (Feltre 1972) are married and
live together in Berlin. In the dialogue
established between their two sculptural works, mutual cultural contaminations become immediately visible,
that is the natural and inevitable influence of one’s own culture on one’s other and vice-versa. Various stereotypes
are reversed… from their combination
originates a semantic universe, rich
as far as ambiguous. Both the sculptures seem to express the willingness
to rise; both are built on a dichotomic
structure.
Die Arbeit von MinJi, a blue pill, beleuchtet kritisch das Abschweifen und die Ziellosigkeit des zeitgenössischen Blicks, der
heute alleine unfähig erscheint ein Werk,
seine Werte und versteckten Bedeutungen,
korrekt und in all seinen Facetten wahrzunehmen.
„Marmor, ein Symbol einer langen Kunsttradition, verteidigt, auch wenn durch
künstliche Hilfe, seine Position in den letzten Trends der zeitgenössischen Kunst,
die sowohl in ihren Formen als auch Inhalten eher kurzlebig erscheint.“ (MinJi Kim)
The work by MinJi, a blue pill , reflects
in critical/clinical terms on the decentralisation of a certain contemporary glance, that seems inable to
activate a correct way of approaching
the work of art, his values and intrinsic meanings.
“This marble, as a symbol of a long artistic tradition, defends, though with an
artificial help, his position inside the
recent “trend” of contemporary art that
appears ephemeral in forms and contents.” (MinJi Kim).
In Love song by Armstrongs, Dal Pont accorpa due diversi punti di vista sul satellite
terrestre. Quello da terra, rappresentato
dalla romantica veduta notturna della luna
attraverso i rami di un albero, e quello
dalla luna stessa, registrato dall’obiettivo
fotografico degli astronauti. I due approcci,
quello letterario/artistico e quello scientifico, non sono chiaramente in contraddizione tra di loro ma piuttosto si ispirano e
alimentano a vicenda. Il titolo dell’opera fa
riferimento ai due grandi Armstrong del
Novecento, Neil e Louis, l’astronauta e il
musicista jazz, figure emblematiche di
questi due differenti approcci che sembrano incontrarsi nell’opera.
Im Werk, Love song by Armstrongs, fügt Dal
Pont zwei ungewöhnliche Blickwinkel zusammen. Ein romantischer Nachtblick zum
Mond, der durch die Äste eines Baumes
dringt und ein zweiter vom Teleobjektiv des
Astronauten aufgenommener Blick vom
Mond zur Erde selbst. Die zwei Blickwinkel
-der künstlerische und wissenschaftlichestehen jedoch nicht in Kontrast zueinander,
sondern sie inspirieren und nähren sich gegenseitig. Der Titel des Kunstwerks bezieht
sich auf die beiden großen Armstrongs des
20 Jh., Neil und Louis, der Astronaut und
der Jazz Musiker, zwei emblematische Figuren für Kunst und Wissenschaft, die sich
in diesem Werk zu treffen scheinen.

combines two different points of view on
the earth’s satellite.
One from the earth, represented by the
romantic night view of the moon through
the branches of a tree, and one other from
the moon itself, registered from the photographic lens of the astronauts. The two approaches, the literary/artistic one and the
scientific, not are clearly in contradiction between them but rather reciprocally inspired
and nourished. The work’s title refers to
the two big Armstrongs of the 20th century,
Neil and Louis, the austronaut and the jazz
musician, emblematic figures of these two
approaches that seem to meet in this work.

Pont (Feltre 1972) sono marito e moglie,
e vivono entrambi a Berlino. Nel dialogo
instaurato tra due opere scultoree presentate, risultano subito evidenti le reciproche contaminazioni culturali, ovvero
la naturale ed inevitabile influenza della
cultura dell’uno sull’altra e viceversa. Vari
stereotipi risultano rovesciati...dal loro
accostamento scaturisce un universo semantico ricco quanto ambiguo. Entrambe
le sculture sembrano esprimere la volontà
di elevarsi; entrambe sono costruite su
una struttura dicotomica.
Il lavoro di MinJi, a blue pill, riflette in
termini critici/clinici sulla scentratura
di un certo sguardo contemporaneo, che
sembra ormai incapace di attivare da solo
una corretta modalità ricettiva rispetto
all’opera, ai suoi valori e significati intrinseci.
“Questo marmo, come simbolo di una
lunga tradizione dell’arte, difende, anche se con un aiuto artificiale, la propria
posizione all’interno del recente “trend”
dell’arte contemporanea che appare piuttosto effimero sia nella forma che nei
contenuti.” (MinJi Kim).

A prize for the future
Scomparsi alla fine degli anni Sessanta, i
premi artistici, sono ricomparsi con grande slancio negli ultimi dieci anni. Oggi
l’accentuarsi del felice trend dei premi
ad artisti (soprattutto) giovani, è anche la
dimostrazione di come solo una selezione
attenta possa aiutare gli artisti ad emergere e ad esprimere la propria individualità
al di là dei trend e delle mode. Più merito
e meno sociologia, si potrebbe dire. Inoltre il valore di un premio è anche quello
non solo di remunerare un’opera d’arte di
qualità, ma di infondere fiducia nell’artista che l’ha creata. In particolare i giovani
esordienti non avendo molte occasioni di
conferma del proprio talento, hanno necessità di venire “giudicati” dagli esperti, da
coloro che fanno parte integrante di quello che si chiama il “sistema dell’arte”. Il
premio “The Glocal Rookie of the Year” è
particolarmente esemplificativo di una volontà istituzionale, della Fondazione Cassa
Nachdem die Kunstpreise Ende der 60er
Jahre verschwunden waren, feierten sie
im letzten Jahrzehnt ein großes Comeback. Dieser wiedererwachte Trend zur
Auszeichnung - großteils junger Künstler
- hat jedoch gezeigt, dass vor allem Auswahlverfahren zum Erfolg verhelfen, die
primär den Künstler als Individuum und
den individuellen Charakter seiner Werke
und weniger die gerade angesagten künstlerischen Tendenzen und Trends berücksichtigen. Die heutigen Preise, so auch
„The Glocal Rookie of the Year“ werden
somit aufgrund des Entwicklungspotenzials eines Künstlers und der individuellen
Originalität seiner Arbeiten vergeben und
nicht wegen gerade angesagter klischeehafter Tendenzen. Neben der Auszeichnung eines interessanten und hochwertigen Werkes sollen Preise dem Künstler
auch Selbstvertrauen geben: Vor allem
aufstrebenden jungen Künstlern fehlt es
häufig an Bestätigungsmöglichkeiten
für ihr Talent und ein Kunstpreis bietet häufig die Gelegenheit, die Meinung
anerkannter Kunstexperten einzuholen.
Dieser Tendenz folgt auch die Stiftung
Südtiroler Sparkasse, die den „Glocal
Rookie“ von einer renommierten Fachjury ernennen lässt, was für den erwählten
Künstler eine besondere Auszeichnung
und Anerkennung seines Talents bedeutet. Schon die Teilnahme an einer Messe
wie der kunStart, die von einer ganzen
Region mitgetragen wird, schafft, was
den wirtschaftlichen Aspekt betrifft, ein
geeignetes Sprungbrett für Künstler aber
auch für junge Galeristen. Letzterer Punkt
wird oft vernachlässigt, weil häufig - vielleicht sogar willkürlich - übersehen wird,
dass die finanzielle Unterstützung der
Kunst und des Marktes im Allgemeinen
für die Sicherung und Weiterentwicklung
des „Systems Kunst“ unabdingbar sind.
Wodurch zeichnet sich nun der Preis aus,
bzw. was hebt ihn von anderen internationalen Kunstpreisen ab? Wie der Name
schon sagt, handelt es sich hier um einen Preis für aufstrebende Künstler: Im
Englischen steht der Begriff „Rookie“
vor allem für Sportler im ersten Wettkampfjahr, die von den Mannschaften
aus Schulen, Colleges oder High Schools
gewählt werden. Am Ende jeden Jahres
wird der Rookie of the Year, der beste

comeback over the last ten years. Today
we see the emphasis of this happy trend
in the awarding of prizes to (above all)
young artists, which is also a demonstration of how only a careful selection
process can help artists to emerge and

part of what is known as the “the art
system”. The prize for “The Glocal
Rookie of the Year” is a particular example of the desire of one institution, the
Bolzano Sparkasse Foundation, to offer
young artists important confirmation on
the path they have chosen. At the same
time the link with “kunStart” and thus
with the Bolzano contemporary art fair,
the only one of its kind in the region, has
an auspicious significance, not least in
terms of economic recognition. This is
an often neglected aspect, perhaps on
account of a certain unwillingness to accept that economic support for the arts
and the market itself are essential to ensure that the above-mentioned art system
can progress and develop. But which are
the characteristics of the prize? How
does it differ from the others on the international scene? It is of course a prize
for new entrants, with the English term
“rookie” used in general in the American
sports world to describe players competing for the first year in the various
leagues. In this context, “rookies” are
selected by those teams entitled to do so
from the players leaving school, college
or high school. At the end of each year
the Rookie of the Year is normally chosen, i.e. the best performance according
to popular judgement. But the concept
of “glocal”, introduced to describe this
prize, is also becoming very important.
The term “glocalisation”, although
coined in Japan in the 1980s, was im-

certa mancanza di volontà ad accorgersi

avanti e svilupparsi. Ma quali sono le particolarità del premio? Quali le sue differenze rispetto agli altri del panorama internazionale? Si tratta certamente di un premio
agli esordienti, il termine inglese “rookie”
viene utilizzato in genere negli sport americani per indicare i giocatori che militano
nelle varie leghe per il primo anno. In que-

sto ambito i “rookie” vengono scelti nelle
selezioni dei giocatori per le squadre che
hanno diritto alle scelte, provenienti dalle
scuole, college o high school. Alla fine di
ogni anno viene di solito scelto il Rookie
of the Year, ossia la migliore matricola, in
base al giudizio popolare. Ma diventa molto importante anche il concetto di “glocal”
che è stato introdotto per definire questo
premio. Il termine “Glocalisation”, nonostante sia nato negli anni Ottanta in Giappone, venne importato nella lingua inglese
dal sociologo inglese Roland Robertson
negli anni novanta, ed in seguito sviluppato da Zygmunt Bauman.
Si tratta di collegare ciò che è locale al
globale per passaggi successivi, passando
da un sistema semplice ad uno sempre più
complesso. Chi vive in provincia, chi vive
ai margini del grande sistema dell’arte ha
probabilmente bisogno di una conferma
del suo essere glocal, che vi possono essere
grandi qualità e grandi prospettive future,
anche partendo da ciò che è piccolo e non
centrale rispetto al mercato e ai
grandi centri di potere. Il Premio “The Glocal Rookie of the
Year” vuole partire proprio dal
riconoscimento realistico della
realtà bolzanina e di “kunStart” in particolare come
esempio di una periferia che
sa guardare consapevolmente
al mondo della globalizzazione, che sa sviluppare un rapporto
equilibrato tra le proprietà e caratteristiche del territorio d’origine e la rete di scambi mondiale. Per fare questo i giovani artisti under 35
presenti a “kunStart” con le loro gallerie
sono stati rigorosamente selezionati attraverso una griglia di giudizi piuttosto articolata. I criteri del bando di concorso a cui
la giuria si attiene, permette di fornire un
giudizio complesso sulle opere presentate
al premio e quindi la valutazione ne risulta
completa. Rimane la caratteristica del Glocal Rookie che è quella di dare una straordinaria visibilità all’opera vincitrice perché
diventa l’immagine guida della successiva
edizione. Non solo l’acquisizione presso
la collezione della Fondazione, ma anche
un’investimento in una campagna di comunicazione internazionale. Nessun premio
offre tutto questo, l’arte diventa realmente
comunicazione, ciò comporta anche che la
scelta del lavoro vincitore sia strettamente
legata dalla filosofia del premio.
La partecipazione di oltre 40 opere segnalate dalle gallerie presenti a kunStart 2012
fa capire come la qualità sia in costante
ascesa. La terza edizione del Glocal Rookie si annuncia la più articolata e interessante per i lavori proposti, per la differenza
dei linguaggi e per l’internazionalizzazione delle proposte.

wurde zwar schon in den 80er Jahren in
Japan geprägt, ist aber erst in den 90er
Jahren vom britischen Soziologen Roland Robertson ins Englische eingeführt
und anschließend von Zygmunt Bauman
aufgegriffen worden. „Glocalisation“ bedeutet, Lokales mit Globalem zu verbinden, indem man Schritt für Schritt von
einem einfachen zu einem immer komplexeren System übergeht. Wer in der
Provinz, also am Rande des großen „Systems Kunst“ und abseits der Kunstzentren und des Marktes lebt, braucht eine
Bestätigung der eigenen „Glokalität“
und der Tatsache, dass auch hier „Glokalisierung“, Qualität und große Zukunftsperspektiven möglich sind. „The Glocal
Rookie of the Year“ nutzt den regionalen
Standort von Stadt (Bozen) und Messe (kunStart) und ihrer Vernetzung mit
dem Internationalen Kunstmarkt, um die
Wechselwirkung zwischen globalen und
lokalen Tendenzen aufzuzeigen und zu
erforschen. Diese Synthese aus Regionalem und Internationalem, der gegenseitigen Befruchtung von regionalen und
globalen Ideen, Einflüssen und Hintergründen ist letztendlich auch eines der
Auswahlkriterien für die Ernennung des
Siegers. Der „Glokal Rookie of the Year“
wird dabei nicht nur mit dem Ankauf des
Siegerwerkes belohnt. Dieses wird auch
als Leitbild für die Kommunikation der
folgenden kunStart-Ausgabe verwendet
und somit in verschiedenen nationalen
und internationalen Fachmedien veröffentlicht.
Die diesjährige Teilnahme von über 40
Galerien (2010 waren es 30) mit jeweils
einem interessanten Anwärter für den
Titel „The Glocal Rookie of the Year“ sprechen sowohl für einen quantitativen
als auch qualitativen Zuwachs bzw. für
die Qualität des Wettbewerbes. Begleitet
wird die Initiative auch heuer von einem
hochwertigen Katalog und einer eigenen
Website (www.glocalrookie.it), die den
Galerien und Künstlern als beeindruckend positive Visitenkarte dienen sollen.

of “The Glocal Rookie of the Year” prize
is a realistic acknowledgement of the actual situation of the city of Bolzano, and
“kunStart” in particular, as an example
of a peripheral area that is nevertheless
consciously capable of observing the
world of globalisation and able to develop a balanced relationship between
the features and characteristics of its territory of origin and the global network
of exchanges. In order to achieve this,
the young artists (under 35 years of age)
exhibiting at “kunStart” have been rigorously selected using a wide range of
factors. The competition criteria used by
the selection panel permitted an overall
judgement on the works submitted for
the prize and the assessment is thus very
comprehensive. Remains the hallmark of
Glocal Rookie which is to provide superior visibility to the winning work as it
becomes the guiding image of the next
edition. Not only the acquisition at the
Foundation’s collection, but an investment in an international communication
campaign. No award has it all, the art
truly becomes communication, which is
strongly connected with the philosophy
of the award. The participation of over
40 works signalled from the galleries
present at kunStart 2012 suggests that
the quality is steadily rising. The third
edition of the Glocal Rookie promises to
be the most articulate and interesting for
the work proposed, for the difference of
languages and internationalization of the
proposals.

and contemporary transposition of
the traditional object, a bridge between local and international cultures, through the contemporary
language of electronics, with sounds

Un progetto della coppia di artisti d’azione Bertamaria Reetz e Rainer Bonk, da

Ein Projekt des deutschen Aktionskünstlerpaares Bertamaria Reetz und
Rainer Bonk aus Köln und Rheinberg.
Nell’ambito di un progetto itinerante
della durata di tre anni, un gregge di
pecore in resina di poliestere di colore
blu fa tappa in diverse città europee.
Posizionate sull’erba verde, danno l’impressione di un gregge di animali vivi
che pascola pacificamente su un prato,
accompagnata dalle piacevoli associazioni che questo evoca.
Il blu luminoso cattura l’occhio dello spettatore. Solo ad uno sguardo più
attento l’osservatore si rende conto che
ogni pecora è in realtà la stessa figura
soltanto posizionata in modo diverso.
Questa presa di coscienza in relazione
al gregge che simboleggia la solidarietà
umana è il messaggio centrale del progetto artistico.

HA LA STESSA IMPORTANZA
Aldilà delle differenze di natura etnologica, religiosa o culturale vogliamo in
primo luogo mettere in evidenza - attraverso l’appeal insolito di un simpatico
gregge blu - gli aspetti che ci accomunano, stimolando un senso di appartenenza
collettivo e trasmettendo un messaggio
di convivenza pacifica basato sui valori
della tolleranza e della stima reciproca.

Il blu è il colore dell’unione, non solo
dell’UE, delle Nazioni Unite, ma anche
dell’UNESCO e del movimento pacifista
europeo.
Im Rahmen einer 3jährigen Ausstellungstour macht eine große Herde
blauer Schafe aus Polyesterharz für
kurze Zeit Station in europäischen Städten. Auf grüner Wiese erwecken sie die
Illusion einer lebendigen, friedlich weidenden Schafsherde mit all ihren sympathischen Assoziationen.
Das leuchtende Blau fesselt den Blick
des Betrachters. Erst bei genauerem
Hinsehen erkennt er, dass es sich bei
den Schafen immer um die gleiche Figur handelt, nur in unterschiedlicher
Positionierung. Diese Erkenntnis, verknüpft mit der Symbolik der Herde für
menschliches Miteinander, wird zur
zentralen Botschaft des Kunstprojektes.
ALLE SIND GLEICH - JEDER IST WICHTIG
Jenseits aller ethnologischen, religiösen oder kulturellen Unterschiede
wollen wir mit dem ganz speziellen
Charme der Blauschafe Denkanstöße
geben und deutlich auf das Verbindende
hinweisen.
Wir möchten mit diesem Kunstprojekt
für friedliches Miteinander, Toleranz
und Wir-Gefühl werben, auf der Basis
von Wertschätzung des Anderen.
Die Signalfarbe „Blau“ steht symbolisch
für das Verbindende. Es ist die Farbe
der EU, der Vereinten Nationen, der
UNESCO und auch die Farbe der europäischen Friedensbewegung.

In the frame of a three-year exhibition, a
large flock of blue sheep made of polyester resin tours - and stops briefly in
- European towns and cities. Standing
in green grass they give the illusion of a
flock of sheep alive and grazing peacefully accompanied by all the likeable associations this evokes.
The glowing blue catches the eye of the
beholder. Only by closer scrutiny the
observer realises that every sheep is
actually the same figure yet positioned
differently.
This realisation in connection with the
flock symbolising human togetherness, is the central message of this art
project.
WE ARE ALL THE SAME – EVERYONE IS
IMPORTANT
Beyond all the ethnological, religious or
cultural differences among people, we
wish to give food for thought and point
to that which joins people with the help
of the specific charm of the blue sheep.
With this art project we wish to advocate
peaceful togetherness and tolerance
based on respect towards others.
As a signal colour blue symbolises joining people together. It is the colour of
the EU, United Nations, UNESCO and is
also the colour of the European Peace
movement.

Un progetto speciale ed innovativo nel ambito del design contemporaneo: La Residenza
dei Designer in via Macello 47 a Bolzano è lo “space” dove si svolgono la esposizione
dei oggetti di design scelti per l´occasione, si possono incontrare i designer che durante
le due settimane vivono lí e lavorano assieme ad artigiani locali, impiegando materiali
di scarto industriale ed in piú si terranno le” late night shows” nelle sere del 2-9-16 marzo.
Live performance dei designer con creazione di oggetti “on site” nel ambito di up-cycling
che a differenza del re-cycling non si limita al ri-utilizzo (re- use) di materiali obsoleti
e prodotti di scarto , ma tende a riqualificare gli stessi, dandogli nuova ( è più importante )
funzione o creando un nuovo ( e più qualificante) prodotto.

nach wirtschaftlichen Gesichtspunkten befragt und bewertet,
unternimmt das Ausstellungsformat ORT DER BEHAUPTUNG
den Versuch, Kunstbehauptung
begrifflich, d.h. am Ort seiner
physischen Äquivalenz zu befragen. Für diese Erprobung
wurde ein Anbindungsstück mit
Sockelfunktion geschaffen. Es
erlaubt,
Kunst-Gegenstände
über dem Haupt zu tragen.
Der Träger mutiert dabei zum
lebenden Sockel für Kunst. Er
kann die von ihm getragene
Kunst selbst nicht sehen, wird
vom Anderen aber in dieser
Verbindung gesehen. Behauptungen ist zu eigen, dass sie
ohne Gewissheit auskommen
müssen.

Silvia Conta, critico e curatore indipendente, scrive da
anni per diverse riviste d’arte contemporanea nazionali,
tra cui Flash Art e Espoarte. Di recente ha frequentato
un corso al Sotheby’s Institute of Art di New York e ha da
poco dato vita ad un osservatorio sulla stampa dedicata
all’arte contemporanea.
SKYLINE
Nell’ambito di kunStart 12, fiera ‘glocale’ per la contemporaneità emergente che si pone l’obiettivo di essere un
traite d’union tra locale, nazionale e internazionale, è
nata l’idea di una tavola rotonda in cui riunire la stampa
locale specializzata sull’arte contemporanea – quasi tutta
di formazione recente - e la stampa nazionale di settore.
Prendendo la forma della tavola rotonda, Skyline apre un
dibattito tra queste realtà, a partire da una riflessione su
questioni quali il ruolo della stampa nel sistema dell’arte
contemporanea, quale punto di vista assume una rivista
rispetto al sistema, quali sono le ragioni di fondare una
rivista oggi, qual è l’equilibrio tra locale, nazionale e internazionale che le riviste invitate cercano di mantenere,
se una rivista possa dedicarsi solo all’arte contemporanea o sia necessario aprirsi ad una visione più ampia
che includa campi confinanti (design, moda, etc), se e
come è cambiato il ruolo delle riviste negli ultimi decenni,
come si evolve una rivista nel tempo, qual è il significato
di un’edizione cartacea in un mondo sempre più virtuale,
se esistano campi d’indagine o d’azione diversi tra riviste affermate e riviste nuove, qual è il rapporto tra riviste
specializzate e fiere, quali sono le più urgenti sfide per la
stampa dedicata all’arte contemporanea.
Gli interventi saranno divisi in due parti di circa 50 minuti
ciascuna. Nella prima sarà dato spazio alle riviste più giovani, nella seconda a quelle affermate.

Mit der mobilen Installation 4 LITTLE BOXES widmet sich die Projektgruppe FABRIK AZZURRO der
Gestaltung von Miniaturorten, die kurzweilig als Fluchtorte, als Erlebnisräume, als Inseln der Ruhe inmitten
belebter Alltagssituationen oder öffentlicher Veranstaltungen angeboten werden.
Die Besucher werden eingeladen, für einige Minuten die gewohnte Wahrnehmung des jeweiligen Umfeldes
zu unterbrechen und sich - jeweils allein eine Box betretend - in eine Art entspannenden Traumzustand zu
versetzen. Die Sinne treten nach dem Vorbild früherer Jahrmarktsbuden mit der Magie außergewöhnlicher
Eindrücke in Kontakt, werden gefordert und auf unterhaltsame Weise neu geweckt.
Con l’installazione mobile 4 LITTLE BOXES, il gruppo FABRIK AZZURRO realizza degli spazi in miniatura,
proposti quali luoghi di fuga o d’avventura, isole di relax nel mezzo di situazioni quotidiane o manifestazioni pubbliche. I visitatori vengono invitati a interrompere la consueta percezione del loro contesto, ponendosi in una sorta di rilassante stato onirico. I sensi entrano così in contatto con la magia di straordinarie
impressioni, sull’esempio dei vecchi baracconi da fiera, e vengono sollecitati con divertenti modalità.
With its mobile installation, 4 LITTLE BOXES, the project group FABRIK AZZURRO has created miniature
spaces as entertaining places for escape, adventure or tranquillity in the midst of the everyday hubbub or
public events. Visitors are invited to stop viewing their surroundings in the usual manner and instead briefly to step into a box alone and enter a kind of relaxing dream state. Like in an old-time fairground booth,
the senses will encounter magical, unusual impressions that are enjoyably stimulating and reawakening.

„Attraverso le persone si muovono le idee“, diceva Joseph Beuys. ARTREK si muove attraverso kunStart e lascia che le opere parlino. Ai ragazzi dai 6 ai 14 anni si
offre l‘opportunità di sviluppare un dialogo con le opere. ARTREK non vuole spiegare l‘arte, ma parlarne. L‘incontro avviene attraverso il gioco e con modalità adatte
ai ragazzi che sono chiamati ad interagire attivamente con le proprie idee.
„Durch Menschen bewegen sich Ideen fort“, sagte Joseph Beuys. ARTREK bewegt sich durch die kunStart und lässt ausgewählte Kunstwerke sprechen. Kindern
von 6 bis 14 Jahren wird ein persönlicher Zugang zu den Kunstwerken geboten. ARTREK will Kunst nicht erläutern sondern darüber sprechen. Der Zugang ist ein
spielerischer und kindgerechter, in welchem die Kinder ihre Ideen aktiv einbringen.
„Ideas move through people“ (Joseph Beuys). ARTREK moves around kunStart to dialogue with the exhibited artworks. Kids aged 6 to 14 have the opportunity to
develop their personal approach to art. ARTREK doesn‘t explain art, but speaks about it. Art is approached through playing and from a kid‘s point of view. The very
young visitors are actively involved to express their own ideas about art.
