1x35w - GU4 - 220v. Danilo Rossi, Leucos. Suspension Lamp and for floor in borosilicate glass and grit in red glass or white threads of straining. Quando un oggetto, con forte valore plastico viene immesso sul mercato, solitamente è apprez- For the adepts to the jobs, for many years now, it is a chance to understand what are the tendencies and orientations of both of the markets and the stylistic inclinations, and conceptual in the way of confronting the role of light in the domestic dimension and in other sectors of the interior design. What emerges this year with clarity is that the quality of the offer appears to be varied and it’s composed with a vast range of interventional types that space the more decorative or more traditional products to the actual luminous sources of the Salone, more provocative and seductive in the match of the new luminous light sources. In the exhibition environment on the one hand it is possible to notice an inspiration of a slightly anachronistic conservatism represented by a few brands, on the other a strong push towards experimentation and innovation that is translated in research towards new languages, but especially towards the creative use of materials, being traditional or nontraditional, in a stimulating dimensions proposed in the ‘fashion’ and ‘stylization’ of light. In this sense it is interesting to notice that the verb LED is used by everyone both for its use as for its displayed privation, or rather suspension, when an appeal is done to the traditional sources. As a matter of fact, if the majority of the producers have adopted a utilization of this technology with acknowledgment, or in some cases, in an optic of pure adaptability to the marketing inclinations, the business realities haven’t disappeared, 11 LUCE 304 definitivo_Layout 1 24/06/13 20:10 Pagina 12 EUROLUCE 2013 SALONE E FUORISALONE MILANO / IT Spillo Marco Pagnoncelli, Icone. In this sense the plastic-esthetic value of the product is shown, in the decorative sector, and has a strong prevalence on the use of hidden innovative technologies. As a matter of fact, a decorative lamp donated from a significant formal value, conceived with the logic of the diffusion for effect of the degrees of translucency, for the perceptive effect that it induces the implication of a particular luminous source. As a matter of fact, many lamps present on the market don’t obstinate the real source and tend to place in second place the ones that can be defined as the requisites of energetic saving and of major luminous efficiency. This aspect is interesting because it finds an explanation in a subtle border which divides technology from art. When an object with a strong ‘plastic’ value is emitted onto the market, it is usually appreciated for its esthetical qualities, and rarely becomes placed under an exam for its response to criteria of environmental sustainability or energetic saving expenditure. The ‘beautiful’ object is well liked, for as much as it costs, but it slips in that ambit of our imagination in which we are bound to make a sacrifice, or for some a dispensation, in the name of a evocative power that it has. If this object assumes its artistic value the problem isn’t even questioned, it can assume an important role in a living space where the emotional aspect results as one of the most significant components. Similarly, if an object has a form of formal expression that derives directly from the emanation of an innovative kind of technology, such as LED or OLED, it still has a similar justification of belonging to the kind of positioning on the market in which the formal significance let aside the innovative characteristics are appreciated. In substance, now that the need to adhere to the new criteria of energetic saving are overtaken along with the safeguarding of the environment and certainly major coherence when compared to the human physiology, the new technologies assume a trendy face, often fashionable. It isn’t certain that the transformation of an innovation into a cliché is necessarily positive but the ample spectrum of the current offer are found in a chosen part with their justification in a perhaps more direct and thoughtless descandance from the rules of marketing, on the other hand the solutions which belong the category of intelligently produced products. A category of products go beyond completely this synthetic distinction and covers that part of Euroluce that covers no schemes completely to insert itself in the ambit of visual communication that represents some installations then spread out in the city. The fuorisalone, continuously so, constitutes an opportunity to read some sort of counterbalance in respect to the ordered out performance of the exhibition stands. Whether it is in the Tortona neighborhood, or in the most recent expositive areas of Lambrate or other Milanese sites, the object that produces light molds and transforms itself into a true and utter installation with which, often senses of immersive involvement are pressurized that finds the consensus of an ample segment of visitors: the adepts to the jobs along with the curious diverse onlookers who constitute a public which is always closer to the discovery of scenographic innovation of the light. Utilizzando un linguaggio formale molto diverso Davide Groppi suggerisce un utilizzo puntuale e mirato della fonte luminosa at- LUCE 304 definitivo_Layout 1 24/06/13 20:11 Pagina 17 LUCE 304 preted utilizing an original paper as a shield with luminous interchangeable pictures. If the walls can be covered with technology which isn’t less it can be said of the ceilings which can assume three-dimensional effects which absolute flexibility of dynamic effects for visual compositions in great effect, such as the Lumiblade of Philips. OLED, already presented in the previous exhibitions, continues to appear in deputed location of Philip’s communication strategy. Its not about a decorative product, got in a united way, but it becomes so in the modality of aggregation and especially in its digitally controlled management which permits it to change colour and to dimmer in a chameleon-like manner. In this case the modularity of the product is offered for a total re-projection of its final configuration, orientated to the malleable ductility requested by the projectists. In the installation present in the exhibition the wave effect of the luminous flow wasn’t only the product of the controlled programmed turning on following the typical digital preparation of the video-walls but was emphasized from the physical vertical movement, in a get on-get off game, of the OLED modules, modeling in such a manner the ‘three-dimensionalism’ of the system. Pure decorative Exercises of form and battles find a bond between the ability to illuminate and the vocation in exhibiting or even better obstinate the strong personality of the materials. ‘Shaker’ of Leucos is presented on a downhill stage. It consists in a plant at man height with which in the way it is inserted in the stand appears to revoke the role of an actor under reflectors. As a matter of fact the body shined by the glass contains some coloured crystals that embrace a source as if it is about a summer drink covered in ice. The functional illumination effect counts little in this case, as in the two projects, ‘Medusa’ and ‘Helsinki Lighthouse’ of the Finnish Saas Instruments, produced through a system of optic fibers molded by a transparent resin in forms which tend the reconstruct the physicality of the volumes. Volume and mass that diversely become presented from the Canadian suspensions of Bocci in a waterfall representation of the combined effects of chromatics glass and LED luminous sources. The tendency of these projects is revolved around a research on the perceived image through the interaction and the chorale of the very product in an hurried effect that articulates, molds and enriches the space. However in the reality that the addressee of the products find, for domestic use, it’s reasonable to think that one product at a time will be adopted or at a maximum rate of due or three luminous bodies. Differently, the receptive spaces, the bars, the restaurants, and the hotels can access and have a similar use to the one presented in similar exhibitionist installations and, maybe right from these, have inspiration for their choices to personalize and distinguish their staged format. 3/2013 Random 28.3 Omer Arbel, BOCCI. Omer Arbel, BOCCI. Suspension in glass outcome of a special Functional decoration Many devices can be found in the field of decorative luminaries with partial functional vocation, including some which are worthy of a commendation because of their original solutions when comparing them to the quality of light of their specific location. For instance, "Solo" Nils and Cini’s product, is constituted by a very simple ring with its source placed in the lower intrados, which projects a curvilinear geometric flow on the adjacent surface. The emission principle provides a simple light reflection effect, but if more lighting bodies are positioned near each other, they will allow the composition of a repetition of light games which will harmoniously articulate the surfaces. Similarly, the project Orotund for FLOS applies the formal principle of the circle by following the coplanar arrangement relative to the plane to which it relates. It also negatively enhances, the formal sign opposed to a high luminosity. The same Spanish manufacturer Vibia has developed the product’s theme, designed in a circle with interior lighting but with the objective to produce a very soft indirect lighting, starting from a suspension called Cosmos. This time facing down, the suspended bright plate surface "Light Game" from the Light assembly line, characterized by a peripheral ring from which the LED light tends to fade gently toward the centre, rendering the perception from below incisive but at the same time soft and comforting. More functional but still in between the decorative products, we can find "Diaphragm", a small LED projector by Artemis designed for the indoor environment with the ambition to shape the light obtaining squared geometries. This idea of controlling the luminous flow is generally adopted by architectural devices but in this case it allows imagining the increase of transpositions blowing technique with air of high pressure in glass stamps. Proportions opaline with sources of Xenon at 12 Volt. 17 LUCE 304 definitivo_Layout 1 24/06/13 20:11 Pagina 18 EUROLUCE 2013 Sigma Massimo Crema e Ermanno Rocchi, Melogranoblu. SALONE E FUORISALONE traverso apparecchi essenziali e leggeri. LUCE 304 definitivo_Layout 1 24/06/13 20:11 Pagina 19 LUCE 304 from an application to another. It becomes in fact more and more frequent the occurrence of technical requirements in domestic spaces for decorative games. Using a different formal language, Davide Groppi suggests a timely and targeted use of the light source through essential and light devices. The table device "Tetatet" is positioned on iron tables by means of a metallic electromagnetic base and can be moved at will thanks to the absence of electric wires, as it is equipped with a rechargeable battery for LED source. Not simpler, the suspension "LED is more" makes use of an ironic representation of the light bulb with a suspended bulb, supplemented by a compact and simple lamp socket. The surprising innovation lies in its lighting property, as a result of an internal LED system, which projects the light flow down, on the same level of a small down light projector. The technology is there but it cannot be seen! Not even in the "needle" project the source can be seen, and yet already with a fast glance you can understand that it is a thin, long-limbed and unusual source of light. The ICONE company has put in fact emphasis on the coherence relation between the formal idea of a cut on the wall with the potential of a LED bar, effective even in its vari-angled movement from his position of collection. The scenography from outside the Salone There are various installations in Tortona’s surrounding neighborhood. This includes the hangars or spaces, transformed to serve as locations for sensory immersion, which overlooks the many forms of atypical research that involves the use of materials, the use of specially calibrated hospitable contexts, and the skillful play of light, which attracts, seduces, and fully involves the user’s attention. The signs found in the spaces twilight become rough symbols that are found in David Trubridge’s opera, Light Rain. There are also morbid, tridimensional models in a suspension; whose very beauty depends on the modeled presence of the ephemeral light that hits them with a shade of “melongrano blu”. The common denominator is constituted by a spectacular scenic cut, that not only emphasizes the object itself but more importantly the regal luminosity is allowed to trick the curiosity riddle spectator. For this reason, the verbal and written speech loses its efficiency, as in front of a playful sequence of images that follow a rhythm only the human eye can perceive. It is in essence a confrontational piece with strong similarities to the fundamentals of spectacle theatre or a boreal luminescence lit open-air dance. Therefore the live show becomes essential throughout these various installations, as there is no doubt that the use of light creates a surge of reality across the fourth dimension of time. The spectator immediately becomes keenly captivated to discover the story of the light that within the dimensional and lyrical space creates an ambiance very distinct from everyday life. It is conducted in a beautiful manner, one that symbolizes the special moments of rhythm, like the drops falling for the elixir of miracles. Overall, this imaginary dimension never completely disconnects the audience from the present. Instead, it frequently manifests itself within its own ability to evocate the transitions and transformations that are similar to the revolving nature of the Earth’s four seasons as well as the luminescent light whose inspiration derives from the Earth’s sunrise and sunset. “Deep Light” by Alisan Cirakoglu, is a prime example where the experimental scenography is mediated by one of the exposed projects title “Bathing Light” in the space of Super studio Piu-Art Garden, which is found in the Tortona neighborhood, dedicated to the marble craftsmanship that emphasize his sculptural expressions. In six installations, projected by noted architects and designers, which includes, Doriana & Massimiliano Fuksas, Mathieu Lehanneur, and Arik Levy. These noted architects and designers collaborated together on various marble pieces that have pushed the boundaries of our imaginations ability to interpret the internal as well as the external spaces. The collaborators used various principles of opal sanding, three dimensional modeling that draws attention to its qualities, and the evoking of various sensations such as the lightness, heaviness, as well as the perceived transformation of the regal chromatic, which is specially calibrated to the marbles natural ability to display the artists work. But the main idea to stupefy and to create a show in this edition of Euroluce 2013 seems to growingly anticipate the two road mindset that seem to distance themselves from each other as the time goes by. 3/2013 Orotund Marc Newson, Flos.
