The world-premiere tour of ‘Dulcinea in Manhattan’ in Sardina, Italy is presented by ACoronaworks, Alessandra Corona, in partnership with European Choreographic Organization, Renato Greco, and with Associazione Enti Locali per lo Spettacolo, Lello Giua. In her first production as Artistic Director, Corona describes ‘Dulcinea in Manhattan’ as “a new dancemusic-theater project inspired by Cervantes’ ‘Don Quixote’, conceived for seven performing artists (dancers, singers, actors, and musicians) who are at the pinnacle of their artistic careers, all of whom are in search of their own ‘impossible dream”. Corona wants everyone to know that her ‘Dulcinea in Manhattan’ is not a re-creation of the famous ballet ‘Don Quixote’. Although ‘Dulcinea in Manhattan’ is inspired by the iconic novel, the show is a non-narrative, brand-new, and original, contemporary work. Alessandra Corona established ‘ACoronaworks’ as a vehicle to create and develop new multidisciplinary projects. “I want to make artistic works that integrate dance, music, theater, video and film arts of a high quality level” she said. For her inaugural project, ‘Dulcinea in Manhattan’, Corona said she “selected a group of remarkable artists, who are unique, and at the top-level, professionally”. For her debut production, Alessandra Corona is very happy to continue her professional collaboration with choreographer Ramon Oller, with whom she worked with for 15 years at Ballet Hispanico. During their time together at Ballet Hispanico, Oller created many new dances which featured Corona as the leading dancer. Joining Alessandra Corona and Mario Rosini in the production are Herman Payne (international dance-star of the Broadway musicals ‘Fosse’ and ‘West Side Story’), Alessandro Pellicani (former principal dancer for Italian National Television RAI and Mediasest), Maricarmen Garcia (noted Flamenco Artist from Barcelona, who has performed world-wide), Ashley Adamek (Broadway actress from the musical ‘Spiderman Turn Off the dark’ and ‘Chicago’), and Leonardo Tomasi (an Italian actor who trained at the ‘Fulvio Fo’ acting school in Sinnai, who plays the Narrator character in the show). ‘Dulcinea in Manhattan’ is choreographed and staged by Ramon Oller. Choreography for ‘Dulcinea in Manhattan’ has been created by Ramon Oller, and Alessandra Corona. Ramon Oller’s body of work has been performed widely by Ballet Hispanico in New York and on tour. His choreographies have been commissioned and presented by theater and dance companies throughout Europe and around the world. Alessandra Corona created her first professional choreography for her production of ‘Dulcinea in Manhattan’. American composer Thomas Lentakis has created an original music score for ‘Dulcinea in Manhattan’. Lentakis’ music – a blend of electronic and fusion - weaves the production together, moving the action between fantasy and reality.
