TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:
AXIS DIMENSIONS: Diameter 600mm, Height XXXX mm
MAIN STRUCTURE: Entirely made in C45 medium carbon steel it ensures greater strength and
hardness as well as extreme size accuracy and straightness. It is normalized for improved strength and
dimensional stability in time.
The Presetter P916 can thus guarantee great structural stability and constant geometry in any
working conditions for long years of accuracy and repeatability.
AXIS MOVEMENT: All movements are manual and are perfectly calibrated to offer optimum balance
and very smooth excursions on both Z and X axis.
Linearity of movement is guaranteed by 2 parallel linear guides on the X Axis with four-row
linear recirculating ball bearing with 4 preloaded slides. On then Z Axis there are 2 parallel
linear guides with four-row linear recirculating ball bearing with 2 preloaded slides.
Guides are directly fixed to the steel base of the presetter to guarantee constant geometry
alignment even with major temperature variations due to the same thermal expansion
coefficient. This is especially useful in measuring tools with big dimensions.

Guides are widely spaced apart to provide major precision and great stability for the heavy,
high performance presetter column.
Axis movement is manual and allows fast, smooth positioning of camera of one or both axis
at the same time. Independent pneumatic blocking system can block X or Z axis individually.
Ergonomic, easy to use blocking buttons located on movement stock can be easily operated
with just one hand.

Manual micrometric movement through big diameter, custom machined, anodized aluminum
wheel. Great sensitivity is achieved for extremely accurate micron positioning. Dedicated
pneumatic system for wheel precision rotation accuracy.
Both X and Z Axis are equipped with high precision, glass OPTICAL SCALES with micrometric
resolution. All optical scales are supplied with INSPECTION CERTIFICATE.
Optical scales are positioned midpoint between the guides to guarantee maximum
measurement accuracy.
CONE SLEEVE SUPPORT: Integrated in the presetter base is a high precision, vertical support rotating
cone sleeve. Machined to exact tolerances it can accommodate ISO50. Pre-assembly testing
guarantees major precision and repeatability over time.
In order to guarantee exact tool cone positioning the vertical cone sleeve is equipped with UCS
(Universal Clamping System). This system, designed by M.CONTI, mechanically clamps
DIN69872 and ISO7388 as a standard. Other types of pull studs must be validated by, M.CONTI,
prior to usage.
Tool sleeve comes equipped with X and Z calibration spheres for easy and fast zeroing on both
axis. No other measuring aid is required.

Manual rotation of tool is extremely smooth and easy to achieve for accurate measuring
procedures. Pneumatic break allows instant and powerful blocking of tool rotation in any
desired position. Extremely useful for any necessary micrometric adjustment.
Maximum weight capacity on tool sleeve 80Kg.

COMPUTER AND SYSTEM SOFTWARE:
COMPUTER: High performance, commercial grade PC inside the main presetter frame. Equipped with 3
heavy duty cooling fans for optimum performance in all working conditions. Supplied with mouse,
keyboard and 17” colour TFT screen. Last generation INTEL processor and mother board with a high
capacity solid state Hard Drive for trouble free operations. Presetter software runs off OS WINDOWS
XP of proven stability and excellent compatibility.

CONNECTIONS: One Ethernet LAN port and 7, easily accessible, USB ports. Possibility of data
transmission through (OPTIONAL) wi-fi hardware.

offers a field of view of 7x7mm (0,27x0,27 in.) and an OPTICAL MAGNIFICATION OF 40x in both

Depending on the tools to be measured the operator has the option of changing AXIS mode.

MACHINE ORIGINS CAN BE SET IN THE PRESETTER MAIN MEMORY. UP 10.000 ORIGINS CAN BE
STORED AND RECALLED.

STANDARD SOFTWARE PRESET MEASUREMENTS:
A complete set tools for measuring:
o maximum diameter and height of the tools
o line and angle intersection
o theoretical point identification
These functions can provide very fast, at a glance, measures of most standard tools.
GEOMETRIC FUNCTIONS:
A set of geometric functions which can be used to measure most tools in a flexible and dynamic way.
On top of these there are an additional 3 multifunctional programs which can supply complete tool
information.
LINE – A TWO POINT MEASURE WHICH CAN PROVIDE;
o Angle of the selected line
o Distance between 2 points
o Delta X and Delta Z
ALFA BETA ANGLE – A FUNCTION WHICH PROVIDES THE ANGLE BETWEEN TWO LINES ON THE
TOOL CUTTING EDGE;

ALFA BETA ANGLE MAX – ON DRILL BIT TIPS THIS FUNCTION PROVIDES THE ANGLE BETWEEN
THE TWO LINES ON THE TOOL CUTTING EDGE;

ALFA BETA ANGLE SET – THIS FUNCTION PROVIDES A VERY EASY TO USE GONIOMETER WHICH
CAN BE USED AS A MOBILE MEASURING INSTRUMENT BY MOVING IT TO ANY DESIRED ANGLE
ON THE TOOL PROFILE. IT CAN ALSO BE USED AS A FIXED ANGLE MEASURING REFERENCE BY
INPUTTING THE DESIRED ANGLE IN DEGREES.
LINE 90° – ACCURATE MEASUREMENTS BETWEEN A SELECTED LINE AND ANY POINT.
ALLOWS TO ACCURATELY MEASURE ANY CHIP OR CRACK ON THE INSERT SURFACE WHEN IN
REAL VIEW MODE.
RADIUS – DETECTION AND RADIUS MEASUREMENT ON ANY POINT OF THE TOOL GEOMETRY.
PROVIDES MEASURE FOR;
o Radius passing through 3 or more of the selected tool radius
o Circumference center point coordinates
MAX - RADIUS – THIS FUNCTION PROVIDES THE RADIUS GIVEN BY THE ROTATION OF A TOOL
PASSING THROUGH 3 OR MORE POINTS OF A TOOL PROFILE.
SET - RADIUS – THIS FUNCTION PROVIDES A VERY INTUITIVE WAY TO COMPARE RADIUSES
AGAINST A KNOWN MEASURE (TECHNICAL DRAWINGS).
o Known radius set and is shown in blue circle
o Plus tolerance is set and shown in red circle
o Minus tolerance is set and shown in green circle
MULTIPROFILE – ON MULTICUTTER TOOLS ALIGNEMENT BETWEEN CUTTERS CAN BE
DETERMINED BY USING THIS FUNCTION. A TOTAL OF UP TO 7 CUTTERS CAN BE OUTLINED
USING DIFFERENT COLORS. IT IS MAINLY USED TO;

o Visually inspect all cutters for correct X and Z positioning
o Save a tool profile for future reference
o Print a tool profile
EACH CUTTER PROFILE CAN BE ACCURATELY OUTLINED. OUTLINES REMAIN ON SCREEN SO THAT
VISUAL COMPARISON CAN BE MADE. ONCE PROFILES ARE SET THEN DIFFERENCES CAN BE
MEASURED WITH MICROMETRIC ACCURACY.
X AND Z VALUES CAN BE ZEROED AS ABSOLUTE VALUES, MICROMETRIC MOVEMENT WILL THEN
PROVIDE THE DIFFERENCE MEASURED BETWEEN PROFILES.

MULTICUTTER TOOL MEASURE AND REPORT:
A fully functional instrument to determine RUN-OUT and multi cutter height and radius. Detailed
report with graph can be generated to certify tool specifications or tool adjustment.
Main menu prompts, Theoretical radius and height, number of cutters and plus or minus tolerance
allowed for each X and Z measures.
1. RUN-OUT – Quick way to determine any center point run-out. Immediately visible run out
max and min compared to set values.
2. MULTI-CUTTER MEASURE AND REPORT – Measures are carried out for each single cutter,
software prompts when new cutter must placed in measuring range.

When all measures are taken an immediate report is visualized at the bottom of the screen.
A complete report can be generated in PDF format.

BALLUFF CUTTING EDGE:
Multicutter X and Z measures can be determined in the same manner as the MULTICUTTER TOOL
measuring software. Relevant information can then be transferred to BALLUFF CHIP or to printer for
data back up or analisys.
COG MEASURING SYSTEM:
Difficult to measure COG generating tools can be measured using this specific software.

PRESETTER MULTIUSER DATA SYSTEM:
Presetter operation can be protected and monitored though the use of USERNAME and PASSWORD for
each single operator with three levels of protection:
