MIDI VIRTUAL ACCORDIONS
The new Excelsior MIDIVOX ‘X’ midi controller for accordions has been designed to
provide a compact and low-cost solution to all those accordionists who wish to enter the
wonderful world of electronic music.
Specially designed to be installed into a reedless accordion shell, it perfectly emulates the
bellows operation adding a realistic expression to all the electronic sounds.
A perfect companion for all those accordionists who are looking for a light-weight, versatile
“Virtual Accordion”.
The MVX-S Power & Sound box is the right addition to the MIDIVOX-X accordion
providing a sound generation feature which allows the MIDIVOX-X accordion to be a
stand-alone electronic musical instrument – an expander is therefore not required.
Up to 296 sampled sounds are available - among them a number of realistic accordion
sounds - all of them selectable from the accordion control panel.
Extra MIDI IN and MIDI OUT sockets are provided to allow full Midi operation of the
embedded sound card.
An headphone output is provided for silent use of the accordion - very useful for practising
and training.
An amplifier or power audio system is necessary for full sound amplification.

HOW TO MAKE CONNECTIONS
Warning: All connections must be made before turning all instruments on.
NOTE: an amplifier or power audio system is required to obtain full operation.
Headphones can be connected to the power unit for “silent” use of the accordion.
Connect the power box to the accordion by means of the supplied multi-wire cable with 8 pin round connectors at both ends.
The round connectors have an insertion notch and can be plugged in one way only: be
careful not to force the connector the wrong way.
Once the connectors has been securely plugged at both ends, tighten the fastening ring,
gently but firmly.
Connect the audio outputs LEFT and RIGHT to any mixer or amplifier by means of
standard jack cables (supplied).
If you don’t need any stereo effect just connect the LEFT output to an amplifier.
Connect the power box to a main outlet by means of the main lead (supplied).
Inspect all connections and once you are sure everything is all right, switch on all
equipment and power the accordion by means of the power switch located at one side of
the power box.
Some of the lights on the accordion control panel must light up, signalling the accordion is
ready to work.

HOW TO SELECT SOUNDS
The MVX-S sound generator complies with the General MIDI standards and has been
provided with 128 GM sounds plus 168 variations (total 296 sounds). It operates over 16
Midi Channels and features an 84-note polyphony.
Each sound can be selected by means of Midi Program Change Messages (0-127) and
Bank Select Messages (CC0-CC32) .
To program your MIDIVOX_X accordion please refer to the MIDIVOX _X Owners Manual
and to the enclosed Sound List.
Please keep in mind that “PC” stands for PROGRAM number and “Bnk” for BANK
number.
(e.g. if you want to select the BASSOON accordion sound, once entered the EDIT mode,
dial 0 on the accordion panel and press PROGRAM, then dial 32 and press BANK )
All accordion sounds are grouped in Bank #32.
MIDI INPUT AND MIDI OUTPUTS
Full Midi control of the embedded sound board is possible through the MIDI IN input.
This allows an alternative use of the MVX-S as a General Midi sound generator in
connection with an external Midi master keyboard, computer or Midi accordion.
MIDI OUT #1 and #2 can be used to control other Midi equipment such as sound
generators or rhythm arrangers.
The MIDI OUT #1 outputs all midi messages sent by the accordion, without any alteration.
The MIDI OUT #2 outputs only midi messages pertaining to the Chord and Bass sections,
for use with external automatic arrangers.
