Mark Milhofer made his professional debut as Gianetto in Rossini's “La Gazza Ladra” for British
Youth Opera. He studied with Renata Scotto and Leyler Gencer in Italy, before going on to sing
the roles of Fenton (Verdi’s “Falstaff”) and Don Ramiro (Rossini's “La Cenerentola”), conducted
by Alberto Zedda and directed by Pier-Luigi Pizzi in Parma.
Other highlights have included “Turco in Italia”, “The Consul” and “Matrimonio Segreto” for
the Teatro Regio di Torino, Wolf-Ferrari's “La Vedova Scaltra” at La Fenice Venice, Jean
Cocteau (Panni's “The Banquet”) for the Teatro dell' Opera in Rome, “Barbiere di Siviglia” in
Dario Fo's production in Holland, Belgium, Germany and Great Britain , “La Scala di Seta”
conducted by Jean Claude Malgoire in Paris, Brighella and Belmonte in Bari, “Turn of the
Screw” in Malta, “Cenerentola” in Nantes and Angers, “Mozart and Salieri” in Rovigo, “Don
Pasquale” in Belgium and “Cosi fan tutte” in Giorgio Strehler's renowned production in Beijing
and Moscow – having already appeared in over 80 performances throughout Europe.
He sang Fledermaus Alfred in Belgium, Telamone in Vivaldi’s "Ercole sul Termodonte" and
Prunier in Rondine (Graham Vick, Mo Rizzi) in Venice, all five of Britten’s Canticles in concerts
in Northern Italy and Orff’s “Carmina Burana” for the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome,
the title role in Offenbach’s “Orphée aux Enfers” in Cagliari Opera, Don Ottavio in Oxford,
Pang in South Korea, directed by Pizzi, “Midsummers Night’s Dream” (Lysander) in Dublin,
Beppe in “Pagliacci”, directed by Franco Zeffirelli in Florence and Athens, Belmonte in
Salzburg and Tutino’s “The Servant” in Macerata. Further he sang in St. Gallen “Medea in
Corinto”, in Dijon Hindemith’s “Neues vom Tage”, in Torino Bob Boles in “Peter Grimes” and
in Geneva “La Calisto”, Arnold in “Guillaume Tell” in London, Narraboth in Florence and
Bologna, Oronte in “Alcina” at the Buxton Festival and Ottavio at the Longborough Festival.
Recent contracts until 2017 include Pergolesi's “L’Olimpiade” in Napoli, “Punch and Judy” in
Geneva, Belmonte in Rennes, Bob Boles in Las Palmas, Ivan Karamanzov in the World
Premiere of “Leggenda” by Solbiati in Turin and “La Rappresentazione di Anima et di Corpo”
in Berlin and Paris with Rene Jacobs, Taxis in “Le Roi du Pausole” by Honegger in Geneva,
“Cenerentola” in Bern, "Platee" in Stuttgart, Britten's Madwoman in “Curlew River in Perugia,
an opera he also sang in London and Oxford. He sang"Rappresentazione di Anima e di Corpo"
in Berlin, Almaviva in Amsterdam and Rotterdam, “Pulcinella” at Teatro San Carlo Naples,
"Schneewittchen" in Basel, “Carmina Burana “in St. Etienne, Zagreb and Monte Carlo.
"Cenerentola" and "Armide" in Bern, "Pecheurs des Perles" in Seoul, "Lustige Witwe" and
Almaviva in Graz, "Orpheus" in London, "Fairy Queen" in Stuttgart, "Amor vien dal destino"
with Rene Jacobs in Berlin, Lysander in Valencia, Comte Ory in London, Ernesto in Zagreb.
2017 he will sing "Fairy Queen" in Stuttgart, "King Arthur" in Berlin and Pisandro in Vienna
and Bruxelles.
Recent concert appearances have included Britten’s “Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings” in
Parma (with Bruno Bartoletti) and with the Orchestra di Santa Cecilia in Rome and Rossini's
Petite Messe Solennelle for the Aldeburgh Festival. In addition he has appeared in recitals at the
Queen Elizabeth and Wigmore Halls in London, and in Milan with I Pomeriggi Musicale.
