IED Moda Milan Course Title ART IN FASHION Subject ART HISTORY / FASHION / FASHION HISTORY Semester Spring Contact Hours Total Lecture Hours 40 Total Project Hours 20+ ECTS / USA Credit Equivalency 7.5 ECTS / 3 US CREDITS Pre-requisites NONE Learning Objectives To provide students with basic knowledge about the period from Impressionism to contemporary tendencies, focusing on the general characters of the main movements and personalities. By the end of the module, students will know the general outlines in the selected period, connecting the language of visual arts to the historical and cultural background of ideas and movements. The analysis of the techniques, structures, lines, colours and composition will enable the students to apply them to their own creations in fashion, jewellery and accessories. Course Content The evolution and styles in art history from the middle of the 19 century to the present, considering painting, sculpture, architecture and the new artistic media (photography, video art, body art, performance…). Didactic Method Theory: the teaching method consists of lectures and vision of materials about the topics. During the lectures the pictures will be commented on and brief summaries will be provided on the white board. The students will be required, by the end of the course, to focus on a selected painting. They will be asked to write a short introduction and commentary and finally to develop their own project. The project consists of applying the historical analytical tools as to create their own garment and accessory using the abilities developed during the course.
