DAL VANGELO Gv 15,26-27; 16,12-15
Gli Atti degli Apostoli ci descrivono in modo preciso
questo momento della discesa dello Spirito Santo su di
loro, che erano in attesa del Consolatore, come aveva
promesso loro il Signore Risorto. “Mentre il giorno di
Pentecoste stava per finire, si trovavano tutti insieme
nello stesso luogo. Venne all'improvviso dal cielo un
rombo, come di vento che si abbatte gagliardo, e
riempì tutta la casa dove si trovavano…. Si trovavano
allora in Gerusalemme Giudei osservanti di ogni
nazione che è sotto il cielo… Erano stupefatti e fuori
di sé per lo stupore dicevano: “Costoro che parlano
non sono forse tutti Galilei? E com'è che li sentiamo
ciascuno parlare la nostra lingua nativa? … e li
udiamo annunziare nelle nostre lingue le grandi
opere di Dio”.
S. Luca ci dipinge l’evento in contrasto con la pagina
della torre di Babele. A Babele si parte dall’unità di
lingua e si arriva drammaticamente alla dispersione dei
“figli di Adamo”; a Pentecoste si parte dalla varietà di
“tutte le nazioni che sono sotto il cielo” (At 2,6) e
dalla diversità delle rispettive lingue per arrivare
all’unità dei cuori, nella comprensione dello stesso
messaggio.
Il Vangelo non ha confini ed a chi si predispone
semplicemente ad accoglierlo esso apre nuovi orizzonti
di comprensione sulla persona umana e sulla storia
stessa dell'umanità. E' l'orizzonte di Dio, della fede,
della speranza, della carità. E' l'orizzonte dello Spirito
che invochiamo di venire tra noi per ridarci speranza e
gioia nella fede, come ci ricorda la sequenza nella
liturgia: “Vieni, Santo Spirito, manda a noi dal cielo
un raggio della tua luce. Vieni, padre dei poveri,
vieni, datore dei doni, vieni, luce dei cuori.
Consolatore perfetto; ospite dolce dell'anima,
dolcissimo sollievo. Nella fatica, riposo, nella calura,
riparo, nel pianto, conforto. O luce beatissima, invadi
nell'intimo il cuore dei tuoi fedeli. Senza la tua forza,
nulla è nell'uomo, nulla senza colpa. Lava ciò che è
sordido, bagna ciò che è arido, sana ciò che
sanguina. Piega ciò che è rigido. scalda ciò che è
gelido, drizza ciò ch'è sviato. Dona ai tuoi fedeli che
solo in te confidano i tuoi santi doni. Dona virtù e
premio, dona morte santa, dona gioia eterna”.
I frutti dello spirito sono enumerati in modo dettagliato
dall'Apostolo Paolo nel brano della Lettera ai Galati
che ascoltiamo oggi: “Fratelli, camminate secondo lo
Spirito …. le opere della carne sono ben note:
fornicazione, impurità, libertinaggio, idolatria,
stregonerie, inimicizie, discordia, gelosia, dissensi,
divisioni, fazioni, invidie, ubriachezze, orge e cose del
genere; circa queste cose vi preavviso, come già ho
detto, che chi le compie non erediterà il regno di Dio.
Il frutto dello Spirito invece è amore, gioia, pace,
pazienza, benevolenza, bontà, fedeltà, mitezza,
dominio di sé; contro queste cose non c'è legge. Ora
quelli che sono di Cristo Gesù hanno crocifisso la
loro carne con le sue passioni e i suoi desideri. Se
pertanto viviamo dello Spirito, camminiamo anche
secondo lo Spirito”.
La nostra Pentecoste, che già abbiamo celebrato nel
sacramento della Confermazione, ha bisogno di essere
vissuta, come il Battesimo, ogni giorno. Bisogna
davvero camminare secondo lo spirito, privilegiando
nella nostra vita e nei rapporti con gli altri i valori che
contano e che esprimono in modo evidente l'essere
credenti e l'essere cristiani davvero.
Lo Spirito Santo ci faccia dono di questa radicale
trasformazione della nostra mente e del nostro cuore,
perché possiamo pensare ed agire secondo lo spirito e
non secondo la carne che porta all'egoismo, alle lotte
fratricide, all'odio e assenza di ogni gesto d'amore e di
misericordia nella nostra ed altrui vita, se vissuta
lontano da Dio. Nell'amore e guidati dall'amore, se c'è
davvero dentro di noi, può scaturire solo il bene,
l'armonia e la pace per tutto il genere umano, al quale è
rivolto il messaggio di speranza che ci viene dalla
celebrazione annuale della solennità della Pentecoste.
Oggi, come Parrocchia, celebriamo la nostra Patrona:
Maria. È dolce per me ricordare la sua figura
nell’ombra della vita di Gesù e della primitiva Chiesa,
ma, nello stesso tempo, sempre presente attivamente
nei momenti del bisogno come ci racconta il Vangelo:
Cana, sotto i piedi della croce, in mezzo agli apostoli.
La nostra preghiera oggi sia una accorata invocazione
a Maria: rimani ancora oggi tra noi, aiutaci
ricordandoci le parole, i valori di Gesù. Sii presente in
mezzo a noi, aiutaci nell’invocare il dono dello Spirito
e a saperlo accogliere.

È una parola semplice che in questa occasione vale la pena ripetercela vicendevolmente. È vero che qualche
volta si fa fatica, è difficile nei rapporti interpersonali. Ma se non avessimo queste occasioni, come la Festa
Annuale della Madonna, impareremmo poco a stare vicino ad altri che la pensano e lavorano differentemente da
noi. Un grazie a Dio che a noi ha concesso ancora la vita e la disponibilità per gli altri!

FROM THE GOSPEL John 15,26-27; 16,12-15
The Acts of the Apostles precisely describe this moment of
the descention of the Holy Spirit on those who were waiting
for the Consoler, as the Risen Lord had promised them.
“When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all
in one place together. And suddenly there came from the
sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the
entire house in which they were... Now there were devout
Jews from every nation under heaven staying in
Jerusalem. They were astounded, and in amazement they
asked, "Are not all these people who are speaking
Galileans? Then how does each of us hear them in his
native language?...and we hear them speaking
announcing in our own tongues God’s mighty acts ”.
St. Luke describes the event in contrast with the page of the
Tower of Babel. At Babel it started from the unity of
language and dramatically arrive to the scattering of the
“sons of Adam”; At Pentecost it starts from the variety of
“every nation under heaven” (Act 2, 6) and from the
diversity of the respective languages and arrive to the
harmony of the hearts, in understanding the same message.
The Gospel does not have borders and new horizons of
understanding of the human person and the same story of
humanity are open to those who are simply ready to receive
it. It’s the horizon of God, faith, hope and charity. It’s the
horizon of the Spirit whom we implore to come among us
and again give us hope and joy in the faith, as the sequence
in the liturgy reminds us: “Come, Holy Spirit, come! And
from your celestial home shed a ray of light divine. Come,
Father of the poor! Come, Source of allour gifts! Come,
within our bosoms shine! You, of comforters the best; you,
the soul's most welcome Guest; sweet refreshment here
below; In our labor, rest most sweet; grateful coolness in
the heat; solace in the midst of woe. O most blessed Light
divine, shine within these hearts of thine, and our inmost
being fill! Where you are not, man has naught, nothing
good in deed or thought, nothing free from taint of ill.
Heal our wounds, our strength renew; on our dryness,
pour your dew; wash the stains of guilt away. Bend the
stubborn heart and will; melt the frozen, warm the chill;
guide the steps that go astray. On the faithful, who adore
and confess you, evermore in your sev'n fold gift descend.
Give them virtue's sure reward; give them your salvation,
Lord; give them joys that never end”.
The fruits of the spirit are enumerated in details by the
Apostle Paul in the Letter to the Galatians that we heard
today: “Brothers and sisters, live by the Spirit… the works
of the flesh are obvious: immorality, impurity, lust,
idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, rivalry, jealousy, outbursts of
fury, acts of selfishness, dissensions, factions, occasions of
envy, drinking bouts, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I
warned you before, that those who do such things will not
inherit the kingdom of God. In contrast, the fruit of the
Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity,
faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is
no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have
crucified their flesh with its passions and desires. If we
live in the Spirit, let us also follow the Spirit.”
Our Pentecost, which we have already celebrated in the
sacrament of Confirmation, has to be experienced, like
Baptism, every day. We indeed must live according to the
spirit, benefiting, in our life and the relationships with
others, from the values that really matter and clearly express
our being believers and being indeed Christians.
The Holy Spirit bestows upon us this gift of major
conversion of our mind and our heart, so that we can think
and act according to the spirit and not according to the flesh
that leads to egoism, crimes of killing, hatred and absence
of every loving gesture and mercy in our and other people's
lives, if lived distant from God. With love and guided by
love, if it is indeed within us, can emanate goodwill,
harmony and peace for all mankind, to whom the message
of hope is directed and which comes to us from the annual
celebration of the feast of Pentecost.
Today, as a Parish, we celebrate our Patron saint: Mary. It is
thoughtful for me to remember her in the shadow of Jesus’
life and the ancient Church, but, at the same time, always
actively present in our moments of need as the Gospel tells
us: Cana, at the feet of the cross, among the apostles. May
our prayer today be a deeply sorrowful invocation to Mary:
remain among us even today, help us remember Jesus’
words and values. Be present among us, help us to invoke
the gift of the Spirit and know how to receive it.

It’s a simple word but in this occasion it is something mutually worth repeating. It’s true that some time it’s
difficult to establish interpersonal relationships. But if we did not have these events, such as the Madonna
Annual Community Festival, we would learn very little on how to be close to those who might think and work
differently than us. We thank God that has still granted our life and availability for others!
