Welcome New Swimmers!
Thank you to all swim families who attended SRST registration in August. We had many organized parents who
came prepared with forms completed. This helps our registration process tremendously, and WE THANK YOU! We
are proud to announce that we have officially registered
nearly 70 swimmers, including 16 NEW SWIMMERS! We
have many more members of the community who have
expressed an interest and plan to make it official our first
week of practice. Please join us in making all swim families feel welcome to our team. We look forward to an exciting, award winning 36th season of the Slippery Rock
Eels Community Swim Team!
Swimmers of the Month
Emma Plank
Gina Coffaro and Olivia DiSanti
These two girls have not only been swimming for the same amount of years, but have
been life long friends. Olivia DiSanti and Gina Coffaro, both age eleven, are this
month’s Swimmer of the Month. This is both of their sixth season with the Eels.
DiSanti says she likes to swim because, “It’s great exercise, lots of fun, and I get to
spend time with my friends!” Coffaro says, “swimming is a stress reliever and I enjoy
moving through the water,” Some of the qualities they thought made a good coach
was being fun, encouraging, and caring. When asked what inspired them to join the
“Senior” group, they both said after attending a swim camp at Grove City College,
where Coach Parry coached the week they were there, they inspired them to move up
from the Red group.
DiSanti and Coffaro both enjoy their life out of the pool, too. They both are in
sixth grade at Slippery Rock Middle School. Coffaro’s hobbies include baking, playing
basketball, shopping and being with her friends. DiSanti’s hobbies include playing basketball, drawing, and crafts. Coffaro has two sisters, Julia, age nine, and Sophia, age
six. DiSanti has one sister named Emily, who’s sixteen. Both girls own fish and dogs as
pets.
When asked what they wanted to be when they grow up DiSanti answered “I want to
be a chemist, doctor, or researcher. I love science!” Coffaro said “I want to be a model
or a business owner,” A fun fact about them is that they were born in the same hospital, only a few days apart!
Gina and Olivia are both talented, young swimmers that are an important part
of our team!
“Coaches Corner”
Natalie Carlantonio
Coach Andrew Parry is an amazing coach! He is 25 years old and he lives
in Slippery Rock. Coach Andrew went to college at Grove City College. He
started swimming when he was three years old [counting swimming lessons.] He loves to go the beach [Ocean City, New Jersey] “because it is
awesome”! He has two dogs named Tessie and Toby. Coach Andrew got
married this past year to Mackenzie Summerville, now Mackenzie Parry.
When I asked him what the most exciting thing that has happened to him
in the past year, he said “getting married”! He loves the Broncos and the
USA soccer team. His favorite stroke is backstroke because it “tests your
ability of underwater and efficient stroke technique”. Coach Andrew’s very
favorite food is mashed potatoes. His second favorite sport to swimming is
soccer. That kind of explains why he likes the USA soccer team. His favorite toy from when he was younger (around age 10) was a snowboard.
Coach Andrew likes coaching for the Eels because he likes to teach us
what he was taught. He also enjoys seeing us succeed in the pool and out
of the pool too. He is very supportive and encouraging coach and we are
lucky to have him around to help us.

SRU Homecoming Parade
Our swim team (SRST) was in SRU Homecoming Parade. There
was about 20 Eels that marched, along with a few parents. We threw
SRST water bottles and candy to the crowd on Main Street. Everybody
had lots of fun, and we even got to where fake mustaches! We hope
SRST can march next year and we’ll have more Eels join us for this fun
event!
Summer Synopses
Coach Parry
Wow, I am already missing the warm weather!
This summer was a great building block for the upcoming season and was a success in
all sorts of the word. We increased our group size from last year with returning faces
as well as some new ones. As a group we collectively focused on significantly improving our technique because of the youth of the group and saw some great gains along
the way. Here are some of the highlights of the summer in terms of times and accomplishments.
 Emma Plank finished top 10 in AMS Long Course season while in the 10 and
under age group in 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle, 50 Butterfly, 100
Butterfly, 50 Backstroke, and 100 Backstroke. Eels Long Course records: 100
fly, 100 free, 200 free.
 Natalie Carlantonio finished top 10 in AMS Long Course season in the 10 and
under age group in 50 Backstroke
 Charlie Nesbit finished in the Top 10 in AMS Long Course season in the 14
year old age group in 100 Breaststroke
 Thomas Somora finished in the Top 10 in AMS Long Course season in the 16
year old age group in 100 Breaststroke, 200 Breaststroke
I was very pleased with the improvement of our group overall this summer and I know
I can speak for the rest of the coaches that helped out when I say we had a blast! I
am excited to see what this Winter season holds with even more new faces to the Senior group and anticipating more USA registered swimmers.
