fall / winter 2014 - 2015 CONTENTS Cults Greenbuilding Itinerary Space x her Interview: Patrick Vale Globetrotter Street Food #ISSUE NUMBER FOUR EDITORIAL Contaminazioni altisonanti, individualismi iconici, sofisticati percorsi. Sounding contaminations, iconic individualism, sophisticated paths. “Pictures of Me”, the new autumn-winter collection 2014/15 signed Marco Nils, individuates the art de vivre of the modern man, often on the borderline between the past and modern, but always ready to go through a disruptive contemporary, that never hides his true essence. Different images, which highlight the many facets that live within each of us. Because sometimes, or often, it’s not the body but the soul that needs to be dressed up, a light breath and so demanding that we must nurture in an intelligent, personal way. A daunting task, for sure, which with humility we try to carry on in the belief that the support that we provide with our work in the fashion made in Italy can make full and unique the daily life of those who choose us. Harrison Ford / Indiana jones Robert Englund / Nightmare [4] screenplay written by Victorien Sardou in 1882 for Sarah Bernhardt. The play was staged for the first time seven years later in America. Bernhardt played the role of Princess Fedora, the heroine of the play, wearing a hat similar to a fedora. The fedora became like this a female fashion which lasted until the early twentieth century. Then, when it also became a men’s fashion, this accessory was often used in cities to protect against wind and weather circumstances, giving in addition a touch of elegance to who wore it, was much practical as it could be rolled up when not needed. In the early 70s, the fedora was considered an agée object. But in fashion - you know - nothing disappears forever. On the catwalks all over the world the taste for the hat, in fact, is back in an exuberant and creative way. Today, graphic elements and brand new colors – besides the “basic” nuances that made him famous – offer to the fedora new youth, and to us an accessory that you can not give up ... There is an image, carved in the memories of a heterogeneous community, which captures the “King of Pop” Michael Jackson in a legendary setting: on a stage showing the moonwalk with in his hand the male accessory, must-haves of this autumn / Winter season, the fedora. This soft felt hat, hollow in its length below the crown, in many countries is also known by borsalino, whose name is a registered trademark of the eponymous Italian company and has become a common name par excellence. The fedora was lying on the heads of many, and for some of them drew an indelible and successful profile. Harrison Ford shows off with it in his incredible adventures like Indiana Jones, John Belushi in the Blues Brothers movie, Robert Englund wearing it in the role of Freddy Krueger, and even Alain Delon and Jean-Paul Belmondo in the movie “Borsalino”, filmed in 1970. This hat is then performed by Rorschach, one of the main characters of the comic Watchmen. The term fedora came into use in 1891. The flap of the cover - which receives the most solar radiation during the day - is equipped with a series of integrated photovoltaic panels, to produce the totality of electrical consumption; a geothermal heat pump does satisfy the heating requirements; while the glazed surface allows you to make the most of natural lighting while minimizing power consumption. Nothing is wasted in these shelters with zero impact, where a biodigester can transform waste into fuel for the home. The pyramid-shaped structure allows you to take advantage of natural ventilation, encouraging a constant exchange of air and especially by reducing the heat load during the summer. The structures designed by Wojcik would be realized only with wood, both for the structure and for the finishing, excluding the use of cement or steel, and eliminating any possible problem of indoor air pollution thanks to the choice of all-natural paints and waterproofing products . Zero impact before, during and at the end of its life cycle, as the Primeval Symbiosis tree houses are designed to be fully recyclable. “The vertigo is not the fear of falling, but the desire to fly,” sings Jovanotti in his “Mi fido di te”, and this is the feeling that you can try on the top of a tree house. Place desired by children, where the conceptual limit of “long” and “wide” is canceled to connect with “high” and takes possession of a dimension that is no more “earthly”, but that enables the discovery of unusual scenarios and new and unexplored horizon lines. This desire may soon become a reality, not futile, nor fragile, but based on the knowledge that the future survival of the earth lies in the ability to coexist with the natural system. This is the roots of the project “Primeval Symbiosis,” which turns a simple tree house in a real home with all the amenities but with zero impact, fully autonomous and powered solely by renewable energy sources. It is the city of Aalborg, Denmark, background of this experience through its city architect Konrad Wojcik, inspired by the shape of the mountain pines, has given rise to a series of houses suspended off the ground thanks to a sort of trunk, but at the same time non-invasive towards the context. 61 square meters over 4 levels, each with a different functional program. These are the years that have revolutionized the style, women, and opened the doors of their emancipation. The years of the first bikini, red lips, blue jeans, t-shirt and polka dot patterns. They are the timeless 50s. After at least seventy years there is a desire for revival in the air. The hottest locations organize theme nights, at the cinema and in the library compare timeless icons which gave to this decade an unprecedented charm, veiled by a thin and subtle melancholy. Today, the 50’s style is back, dominating and it’s trendy and fascinates the new generations. The autumn winter collections of the biggest faces in fashion have reinvent for the woman of the twenty-first century clothes that are inspired by the timeless elegance of the myths such as the famous “Marilyn” and the immortal “Grace of Monaco”. She’s elegant and refined the woman imagined by Louis Vuitton, which arrives on the catwalk in flared skirts, flared dresses and retro-minimal hairstyles, while it is Prada’s idea to represent a rowdy “tartan” together with some woolen socks. The high-waist trousers return and leave the large cigarette model to the wide model. Elegant and refined, the male item par excellence, enhances the femininity paired with silk blouses and shirts, sleek shoes with heels and skinny belts at the waist. The beige and soft colors are combined in a minimalist style, which rejects the decorations and celebrate the luxury and elegance without ostentation. Patrick Vale / illustration Patrick Vale is an english young artist and illustrator, whose intricate portraits of cities have recently captured public imagination. His time lapse video “Empire State of Pen”, it clocked up 700,000 plays in a few week. The Huffington Post described the film as “jaw-dropping”. Patrick’s large and highly detailed freehand drawings render human the history and drama of our cities, they invite us to peer into the fabric of the place. He delights in showing us the intricate structures of fire escapes and rooftops as much as he does the more famous landmarks, and it is this that really allow the viewer to look and explore for themselves. Il time lapse video de “l’Empire State of Pen” è stato davvero un successo su Vimeo. Sono state settimane interessanti. Realizzare “l’Empire State of Pen” non è stato poi così faticoso. Ci puoi svelare qualche dettaglio in anteprima? [ 42 ] We are curious. Of what characteristic does your choice of the subject depend to be reproduced on paper? «I guess I look at the building in question very quickly and when I look at the blank paper, I decide in that moment what was the distinguishing feature and draw that. I guess there is a visual editing process that happens almost instantly that I have developed over the years!» The view of Lower Manhattan – from the Empire State Building - is the illustration to which you are most fond of? or is there some other work that occupies a privileged place in your heart? «I wouldn’t say its my favourite drawing, although it defiantly has a real significance for me now considering what happened! It might sound weird but I don’t think I have a particular favourite…the one that excites me is always the one I haven’t done yet. Which is one of the great things about being artist!» What excites you in your art? and what message do you try to give throughout it? «There isn’t really any deep meanings behind what I do. I love to draw and I love to draw cities. The city tells its own story, I’m just showing it through my eyes.» What project are you working on now? Can you reveal some details in preview? «I will be doing a big USA based project next year where I plan to draw 16 cities. I am very excited about this!» Patrick, your art is very special. When you’ve decided you wanted to draw cities using only pen and paper? «Thanks, that kind of you to say. I have been drawing Cities using pen since I was a kid. My dad used to go to the USA a lot and I used to be fascinated by the photographs he came back with. I just started drawing them I guess. I would also go and sketch in my home city – Bristol - especially around the dock area.» The time lapse video of the ‘”Empire State of Pen” was really a success on Vimeo. Was it hard to realize this work? and what “tools” did you use? «Yeah, it went a bit crazy online! was an interesting few weeks. It wasn’t that bad, the drawing took 5 days to do I think, and I set up my phone on above my head.» I used a stop motion app on the phone to take pictures every 4 seconds. Every half an hour I had to upload the pics as the phone processor couldn’t handle any more!» The amount of details represented in your illustrations, along with their large sizes, are really amazing characteristics and very fascinating. How do you reproduce everything in such a meticulous manner? «I guess I have done so many drawings over the years that I have developed my own method of interpreting cities. When I draw I’m not really thinking too much about it, I just look and my pen seems to do its own thing. Some lads in my old studio called me a “human printer!” When I decide to “ink in” a large piece, that is a very time consuming process, I guess I have a lot of patience as you have to build up layer after layer!» www.patrickvale.co.uk/ FB: Patrick vale Instagram: @patrickvaleartist [ 43 ] ISSUE n.4 GLOBETROTTER LADAKH A journey through the little Tibet “Non temere di avanzare lentamente, abbi solo paura di fermarti”.
