OSCAR GHIGLIA
Curriculum vitae.
Oscar Ghiglia, livornese ha studiato al
Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia coi maestri Di
Ponio, Maini, Parpagliolo, e Poltronieri,
perfezionandosi poi con Diaz e Segovia, all’
AccademiaChigiana di Siena.
Tra il 1961 e il 1963 ha vinto diversi premi
internazionali, a Orense e Santiago de
Compostela e a Parigi.
Grazie a questi successi fu invitato dal
grande maestro spagnolo a diventare il suo
assistente allo storico corso di Berkeley,
all’Università della California, avvenuto in
quell’ anno.
Da allora la carriera di Oscar Ghiglia si è
estesa ai maggiori centri musicali del mondo e,
se esistono luoghi dove ancora non è giunto
personalmente, i suoi dischi (E.M.I., Ricercare,
Nonesuch, Stradivarius…) hanno provveduto
e continuano a renderlo noto ovunque.
Fondatore e direttore del Guitar Department ad Aspen, nel Colorado (dal 1969 al 1986) egli ha dato ispirazione
a moltissimi giovani, oggi famosi concertisti o docenti in istituzioni importanti nei principali paesi.
Da Tokio a Gerusalemme, da Roma a Melbourne, da Londra a Città del Messico…e soprattutto nel suo paese ha
fatto ascoltare la sua chitarra e diffuso il suo insegnamento.
Oggi, tra un concerto e l’altro Oscar Ghiglia, che è stato professore (dal 1983 al 2004) alla Hochschule di
Basilea, continua a portare avanti il suo discorso pedagogico all’Accademia Musicale Chigiana (dal 1976) alla
quale si sente particolarmente vicino per i trascorsi Anni Segoviani, agli Incontrti Chitarristici di Gargnano del
Garda (dal 1973) al Music Conservatory dell’Università di Cincinnati (dal 75) ed in altri luoghi dove ama far
ritorno ogni anno, come la North Western University di Chicago e la Juilliard School di New York.
Graduated from Santa Cecilia’s Conservatory of Rome O.G. began soon his apprenticeship beside the great Master
Andres Segovia, who was his major influence and inspiration during his formative years. Later O.G. “inherited”
Segovia’s glorious Class in Siena’s Accademia Chigiana and spread his own teaching around the five continents in a
sister vocation to his concertizing.
O.G is proud of having founded such strongholds of guitar teaching as the Guitar Department at the Aspen Music
Festival (Colorado, USA) as well as in the Festival de Musique des Arcs and the “Incontri Chitarristici di Gargnano”,
of having been artist in residence, or visiting professor in such centers as the Fine Arts Centreof Banff, Alberta, the
Cincinnati, San Francisco Conservatories, The Juilliard, the Hartt School, the Northwestern University of Evanston Ill,
as well as The Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi of Milan, the Rubin Academy of young Jerusalem and othr equivalen
schools all over the world.
From 1983 till 2004 his teaching was carried on, year long, in Basel Switzerland, where he held the professorship in
guitar at the Musik-Akademie der Stadt Basel.
In all these centers and elsewhere,.Ghiglia has been nurturing talents, forming or perfecting artists’ musical outlook
and interpretation
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Diplômé du conservatoire, O.G. eut la chance de connaître et d’ approfondir l’enseignement du grand Maître Andrés
Segovia, qui sa plus grande source d’ inspiration pendant ses années d’apprentissage. Plus tard O.G. ‘ hérita’ la
prestigieuse classe de guitare qui fut de Segovia, à l’Académie di Sienne.
Depuis ses débuts Ghiglia prit à cœur l’enseignement de l’interprétation musicale et en fit sa profession parallèlement
à celle de concertiste. Avec les cours de Sienne, O.G. est fier d’avoir porté la guitare aux festivals d’Aspen, Colorado,
aux USA ainsi qu’à celui des Arcs en Musique, en France et d’avoir fondé, avec R .Chiesa et G. Fia les ‘Incontri
Chitarristici’ de Gargnano, sur le Lac de Garda. Son influence s’est épanouie aux plus importants centres musicaux
d’Amérique du Nord, tels que la Juilliard School de New York, la Northwestern University de Chicago, le Banff Center
